Cortana development - Windows Phone 8 Development and Hacking

I am currently working on porting cortana to windows 8 desktop and i was wondering if anyone has managed to find where her tts is located, as far as i know its local because you can turn off data and wifi and she can still respond... Ive already found ui sounds and the emotes...

WinMo 6.5 T-Mo Upgrade & Wifi sharing

I had the Wifi sharing cab with my old 6.1 windows mobile on my touch pro 2 which worked great. I got the upgrade to 6.5 through T-Mobile USA and when I installed the wifi internet sharing cab that I got from here, I cannot find it anywhere on the phone to use it. Any ideas?

Why would you need to install anything? T-Mobile puts it on the phone for you.

The OP is refering to WiFi internet sharing, not blue tooth or USB.
So it's not in the 6.5 version? I swear on 6.1, I had wifi sharing built in. HTC menus and all, no need to install a cab.
Wow, I don't see it. What the hell am I remembering then!?!?! I remember HTC menus and setting up my wifi network to share, password and all. All without WMwifirouter.
You mean this one?
I think this is what you're looking for....
oh wow, I just checked my screenshots of my cab list from previous and there it is. Wow, for months now, I've been telling people that the T-Mobile version comes with tethering right out of the box!

It does come with tethering out of the box, but not the wifi router/access point functionality.

True. Well it's good to know that I have a backup to WMWifirouter, if that ever "fails" again...
How did you get 6.5 from t-mobile.I just got my tp2 and it came with 6.1, and should I upgrade now or wait. i like to wait to make sure people are not having problems with new updates before i bite

Are there any pros/cons to upgrading from 6.1 to 6.5?
PROS: New lock screen, new start menu, visual voicemail, search phone function, some minor improvements throughout, apparently a better radio for more exact service signal, better/faster GPS/cellular triangulation, weather on home page, weather based on GPS location
CONS: Greater risk for errors with installed programs (see services.exe thread), new start menu, you have to hard reset to upgrade, slightly more RAM usage
Thanks for the info and links. I already upgraded and I like it, now Ican play with it some more

Where are you looking to place it? If you need a drop down menu instead of that honeycomb one, try QuickMenu. I love it!

all settings should be under the settings tab. If your not using sense I forget what the other stock UI is called. then just go to settings. and it should take you to everything and you should see connections on there. if you want I can post screen shots to help you out just let me know if you still have trouble finding it. Took me a while to find it too.

Screen Sharing for Honeycomb

Hello,
Does anyone no of any way to do screensharing on a device that has honeycomb?
thanks
Jason
what exactly do you mean by screen sharing? Do you mean having two or more apps on the screen at once? If so, then no, that is not currently possible.
No, I mean I have someone that has problems with their device and I want to troubleshoot from a distance through some remote access program.
They exist for PC/MAC. Trying to find solution for Android
oh, I see. that would be nice.. haven't heard of anything like this yet though
You mean remote desktop connection? I know you can sideload TeamViewer which allows you to control Mac OSX or Windows 7 computer from your Android device, don't know if its tablet optimized yet or not.
See if WebKey works on honeycomb. I don't have a Tab yet, but use it all the time for demoing apps/giving presentations from my android.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
I thought someone was deving a VNC for Android. The current beta has a lot of problems and doesn't work really well..but I think it'll get there eventually.
Until then there's no easy way to remote to a Android "desktop" yet.

How to get the sound to work in Windows 8 Consumer Preview...

Hi All,
I installed Windows 8 on my HP MiniBook and I cant for the life of me get the sound to work.
I have searched the web to no avail and I just cant get the sound to turn on. It says that it is disabled due to no "sound device" installed but in the Hardware list it does indeed show my sound card / drivers are installed. I have updated the drivers but still... NO SOUND...
If anyone can help me I would be very appreciative.
Also... I cannot use the cool METRO home page due to the minibook resolution being less than that required and was also wondering if anyone knew a possible hack I could use to get that working?
Thanks in advance...

Windows 7 and maybe even Vista drives should work bro. Just go to HP's Website and look up the sound drivers under 7 or vista they should work for 8. Good luck.

Find the instructions using Google for turning on downscaling, that will allow you to change your resolution to 1024x768 which will allow metro apps to open.

TouchPal Keyboard for Windows8

Hi Folks,
No sliding input in Windows8 is really crappy and boring!
No smart prediction for typing in Windows8 is stupid!
Take this! Next generation input For Windows!

That looks really slick.
Will this just be available on both windows 8 and windows RT?
I'm interested. I used to have Touchpal in the WinMo 6 days. It was a great keyboard back then. Truly revolutionary.

I saw it mentioned somewhere else that even though English is not a set up option it is still the default language after set up.
Yep, you are correct it will default to English... but on my Asus 400 didn't work at all. Changed all the preferences and could not get swipe or word prediction to work.
Guess it's still in it's infancy.
windows RT
i wish someone told me it was only windows RT...would have saved me a lot of time!
i hope someone gets this going for windows 8 PRO!

Where did you see only RT, even Engadget mentions the Pro.
:crying:
where?
well i installed it and i can definitely say it didn;t work on the pro!
---------- Post added at 01:12 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:04 AM ----------
and when you get ready to install it has corupted letters..... it's not meant for PRO...trust me. if it was on the PRO it would be in the store and all over youtube!
If it was for RT, you wouldn't even be able to start the installer on the Pro (or any other x64 PC). I very much doubt the current version can run on RT, in fact. It may (or may not) be buggy on x86 / x64 (not "PRO"; that's nothing but a portion of the term used to identify a specific model of x64 PC), but it's certainly not "only windows RT" as you claimed. Oh, and a Store version wouldn't really work at all; you couldn't run it with the desktop or any other Metro app.
I'm guessing it's just a mistake you made (wrong language selected or something). The mistake might be caused by a bug in the software, but given that you apparently don't understand the difference between RT and Win8 on x86/x64 (not "PRO") at all, I'm pretty sure you don't understand the nature of the problem either.
It's a horribly buggy app, I suggest against anyone using it. It crashed Explorer right after installing, and it causes any app that you type 'C++ word word' into to crash while it's running. Not only that, but it forcefully sets itself as the current keyboard every 30 or 45 seconds, even if you manually select the stock keyboard. This behavior is behavior I would expect from a virus more than a seemingly professional piece of software.
The installer also doesn't seem to have an English installer, I had to rely on 3 semesters of high school Spanish to get through it. It also defaults to what appears to be Chinese.
But, as far as it goes on RT, it's a WPF app with a native C++ helper dll, it won't run on RT, now or ever.
Does not run
I admin installed v. 1.3 on Windows 8.1. When I install I only checked "English" and it has an error message "C:\Program Files\CooTek\TouchPal\keyboard\TPKeyBoard.exe A referral was returned from the server." I clicked OK and continue. After it was installed I try locate those execute files and run as admin. All I get is the "A referral was returned from the server error" Not sure whats going on... maybe a connection problem?

Have you figured out a solution by chance? I'm running into this now myself, and have no more ideas for a solution. A suggestion of another swipe styled keyboard would also be an appreciated, alternative, answer!
Thanks.

I'm about to bring back my htc shift too... anybody in 2020 with any luck installing windows 10?
I ran with Windows 10 until recently, but had to give up on it as it was too bogged down by background updates and telemetry. If you can turn everything off it should be usuable, but I reverted back to WIndows and decided to use my Shift as a permanently offline retro machine.

Don't worry, the touchscreen will eventually work in Windows 7&10 eventually, you just have to keep faffing. Once it works, it keeps working forevermore.
I can't remember the specifics, but I would recommend to keep doing the following in no particular i.e. random order:
install "VistaECDrvV"
install Intel VGA Driver
Install "TouchScreen"
run resolution changer exe (or change the resolution from the shift control centre)
If you keep trying the above and have no joy, you may have more luck with the Sherry graphics driver, which seems to be more sophisticated (it allows Flight Simulator X to run!)
At some point it might start blue screening, but just keep doing the above in various different order and eventually all will be well. If necessary boot into safe mode to undo whatever caused the bluescreening and try a different order.
The fact that the touchscreen is working in SnapVue shows that there is no hardware issue.
It will eventually work, but how much time you want to spend trying is up to you.
Which OS are you running by the way? I'm running Windows 7. Windows doesn't work with the wifi driver without further faffing, covered elsewhere in this forum, but I can point you directly to it if need be.
Good luck and have fun, and if the fun stops, stop!
