You know those noise cancelling headphones we all got, well as you know they have a mic on each earpiece. well if you put them in your ears and then into the phone a little icon comes up in task bar saying "configure accessory". click on that and instead of headset, choose microphone and then if you record video it records in true stereo and with less hiss than handset alone.
Basically, your headset works as if it is that £30 mic attachment.

Nice info! I only knew it has a mic for taking calls. It's good that it can be used to record video as well. Thanks!

Actually not ALL of us have them, as atleast in Finland we got SmartBand SWR10 instead of the noise cancelling headphones. But nice find nonetheless

Also, you don't have to swipe down the notification bar then click quick settings to get the settings. You can just swipe down as usual, then (keeping your thumb/finger on the screen the whole time) swipe back up but to the right half of the screen and finally swipe back down again and you get your quick settings . Sounds lengthier, but in practice feels much quicker.
Alternative is to just swipe down the notification bar with two fingers.

actually, there is a faster way. assuming you're a right hander, you'd be swiping down the nof bar from the right side. when putting ur thumb/finger on the bar, hold it there for a sec; it will switch to quick settings when you pull it down.
Great tip!
But I am very curious as to how this noise cancellation works! He picks up external noise through the microphone and do what with it? I do not understand how it works!

It plays the exact opposite noise through the earpieces to cancel it out. You can do it yourself with mp3s to get an acapella if you have the instrumental to turn into a negative waveform.

Thanks for the info, I was wondering if the earbuds would also work as a stereo microphone (I haven't received my Z2 yet). Because I do not need the earbuds so i'am going to convert them into a a stereo mic that will be like the STM10, probably not as goog though, but better than the internal mic.

Hi, I have this earphones set with mic built in do not work with the Tab? They do work with the iphone so i know the mic works, the earphones work great with music, I can hear the callers voice but they cant hear me? Is there something I need to do? Like download the voice app for navigation??
Gracias amigos!!!
You probably didn't push the plug all the way in. It happened to me. -_-;
I have Sony headphones too and the Mic and button don't work either. I guess they're just incompatible.

dang, ok, I'm trying to convince my ex to switch with me her iPhone's earphones lol.
they work
so turns out after i bought a cheap hands free set and saw they did work, i was wondering why a cheap set do work and the nice Sony ones don't. So after sawing some of the plastic above the plug didn't make the difference, instead pushing the plug all the way in, I just pulled it our quite a bit and they do work that way, weird after everybody saying to push it very deep. LOL
Does it work on another phone? iPhone, perhaps?
I wonder if the contacts are not positioned the same way as the ones that came with the Tab.
PS: I've verified that the iPhone stereo mic headset works on the Tab just fine - and vice versa. The middle button works, but the volume button doesn't. Appearently, the volume buttons is an iPhone-specific feature.
Anyone come up with a way to route notification audio through the head phones? I never really realized it till I started sharing an office with a guy. My head phones are noise canceling...so I really on though it just buzzed with the vibration, but it actually does the notification over the speaker...Which seems awfully pointless to me.
Id like to know this too. Kind of retarded that they go through the speaker, insted of headphones.

Hey guys,it's my third day with the SGS2 and I'm still very very fascinated by the device.Still trying to get used to working without Sense and trying to figure out things about overclocking the thing(What the heck is internal voltage anyway?I'm using Tegrak Overclock Ultimate btw).
Anyway,I noticed that my GS2 has a second tiny hole next to the 3.5mm jack on the right side.It looks like a mic, although any sound I've recorded with the thing is still mono.Any ideas as to what that might be?I can post pictures if requested.
Anyway, two questions for which I'm still scratching my head:
1)How do I link my Google contacts with facebook ones?On Sense it was as easy as clicking "Connect" and searching for the Facebook contact. Here it must be trickier.See,when I connect my Facebook account it synced all of my Facebook contacts, which are 900 give or take a few.I tried to connect one contact with the Facebook one,it connected, but still it shows the picture I have on my Google account, not the Facebook picture. So,do I have to do this stuff like that or is there another way?And can I set the picture to the one they use in facebook?
2)Does anyone use GoWeather widget?I like it very much as an alternative to the Sense clock(even on my DHD with Sense) and it has an awesome weather app. However,on the SGS2(maybe even on the Desire HD but I hadn't noticed it ever happening) the time sometimes stops counting. And those "sometimes" tend to be very often. It just gets stuck, like time stops(sadly it doesn't).So it might be 4:30,but when I look at GoWeather's time it shows 4:10.Very annoying.Does anyone have such an experience?I am using FancyWidget until further notice but I don't exactly like it.
Thanks guys. And please bear with me,I'm still getting used to it.I'm no (big) noob, but some things are over my head sometimes and free time nowadays is scarce here.
Yes that is a second microphone, for Noise cancellation during calls.
Supposedly you can turn it off by pressing the menu button during a phone call, though i have not tried this.
Also it gives you stereo audio during video recording used in conjunction with the mouth microphone.

Well yeah but what the hell,my videos all have monophonic sound, not stereo.Although with the Hacked camera found in the Dev section(don't remember the author's name, but kudos to him) the sound is great, but stereo would give us the wow factor.
As for the other two questions?Anything?
It appears to use both microphones during video recording, but it`s only in mono not stereo like you said

Yep,exactly. It's a shame actually 'cause the hardware is there but software's not taking advantage of it.
Anyway,I want to ask another question that has gone unanswered 2-3 times already. Why is there no current reading in current widget?Instead of electric current values the widget says "no data".Does anyone know why?

OP, regarding your second question, i had the same problem with the go weather clock and i found a fix by unchecking the default clock option that said automatically provided by network settings. Check to see if that's your case and if it fixes your problem
Today when I was out my z2 rang I had my headphones in I answered the call via my sw2 and I could speak and be heard so I presume the headphones have a built in microphone I didn't know that as there is no volume rocker on the headphones
There is. There always has, on my stock headphones, O guess. It's a small hole, generally on the little thing that "unites" the two ear cables

According to the leaflet that came with mine, the microphone is actually in the earpiece. There is no mic on the wires
It could explain why model MDR-NC31E (not MDR-NC31EM) can be also noise canceling set...
TheOnlyIntruder said:
The red circle shows were the microphone is on the earphone, a way you can test it is if you activate the noise cancelling, rub your fingers across that part of the earphone, you'll hear that typical swashing sound when rubbing a mic.

My headphones are MDR-NC31E and they are noise cancelling. I checked Sony's website and only MDR-NC31EM appears. I think it's the same model and they changed the name (put an extra M there) or different name for different markets.
L.E.: I checked the papers inside the box (last image I added) and it says MDR-NC31EM . So they are the same. Probably they decided to change the name after some of them were already manufactured.
So hey guys is it me or just anyone who has their btn200 has this pairing issue?
cause sometimes it is paired but the sounds don't come out of the headset,
instead of that it comes out from the external speakers of the phone, I tried unpairing and repairing too. Didn't work out for me though,
I saw it it's not really working like the battery is around 0-30%, does anyone know why?

I dont have the btn200, but i did get a free btx300 speaker and not had any issues with pairing...... have you got stamina mode or any battery saving thingys on??? As you mentioned battery life, maybe somethings killing bluetooth at a certain percentage to preserve battery, if not that then i dont know

Yea I was actually thinking the same and I am gonna try it out without the low-battery mode cause it might be killing the link in-between.
And the funny part is that it shows that my headset is connected. haha

Seems to be. My phone does that.
Seems normal...
seriously hope this is something that can be hacked. would love to have both speakers functional during a speaker phone call... especially when in the car.
I seem to have sound from both speakers while on speaker phone but the bottom is much louder. Guess also it's because it's not stereo. Both speakers are equally loud while listening to music.
Same for me, on speakerphone I only get the bottom speaker but I get both in normal media playback. Glad it's not just me.
It's annoying because the speakerphone volume in a car is pretty low, and it could potentially be twice as loud with both speakers.
Same here chaps
Same problem here also
My Nexus 6p does exactly the same thing, only one speaker works, the bottom one when using the speaker phone and even in Skype.
I hope this is not intentional and will be changed.
This is also happening on Moto X Pure so it might be an Android feature to disable stereo during speakerphone.

I'm pretty sure it's already been done, it's a mixerpaths.xml edit. It's in one of the threads created here already; you'll have to do some searching to find it. It's never really bothered me though since I don't use the speakerphone function very often, and when I do it sounds loud enough to me with a single speaker.

I might have been mistaken, or remembered readings something differently. If you are seeking more volume when on speakerphone, then you can try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/general/mod-boost-call-handset-volume-t3329419
My Axon 7 uses both speakers during speakerphone calls.
