The price is too low, probably 1st thing that shows that the seller might want to rip you off.

open it, have a good look at it, does it look cheaply/badly made??? Switch it on, play around with it, does it have sony apps pre installed? correct amount of ram/storage etc??? Does it have the label with imei n whatnot on the bottom of the micro sd tray....... check all the little things. If it is fake you should be able to get reimbursed from ebay..... If its genuine, you got an absolute bargain

Tell him to open it and send pic with a piece of paper with his eBay id on it. I'd want it opened anyway incase it's damaged in box. If he won't open it or send pics then I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. But that's me

Hopefully you paid it via PayPal so you can always get your money back that way. Nobody is silly to sell z2 for £350 he could simply put it on auction and sell it at least for £450 £500

after these newer posts, my guess is someones trying t make a quick buck...... i reckon they got phone on contract purely to sell n never plan on paying bill, in which case few months time phone will cease to work on whichever network provided the contract. Or they planned to sell it and report it lost/stolen, in which case when its reported it would be barred from all uk networks and if using a registered sim you could well get a visit from police........ of course i could be wrong and it could be genuine sale but i doubt it

see if you can get the imei number from him, i believe its on sticker on outside of box, you can then check online (cant remember site, gimme a minute ill find it) and get status of device with that imei, will tell you what network its on, if its contract/ how long for or payg and importantly if its been reported lost/stolen

I never received any money, only request for bank account number and full name. Who would give that information? i simply wanted to ensure I got paid before shipping to croatia and would accept a certified check or cash, I am not one the idiot 5% but a good guy who has never and will never rip anyone off, bad karma in my view
no pictures, did this for someone else and its gone.
guess you never sent money via bank transfer internationally or sent it via Western Union. If you did, you'll never go hillbilly on me and acusing me for some internet fraud because bank DO ask for full name and bank account number and on Western Union form there is FULL NAME AND ADRESS FIELD!
Please inform yourself in the future, go back to elementary school or something....

Hi Guys Need you advice.
I bought new samsung galaxy s3 from Gumtree guy sold it for £350. It was advertised that its unlocked on all networks. When I bought it of him it was working on Vodaphone. I rang orange to get microsim which arrived 3 days ago. I waited for text message for new sim but no message arrived after 24 hours so i rang orange asked why sim isnt active. Orange asked me for phone IMEI number which i provided found out that phone is blacklisted.
when i bought the phone guy said that he has reciept upon receiving the phone he said its at home but will give it tomorrow. So i took his pictures on Galaxy S2, made him sign the agreement and recorded him. I also took picture of gumtree ad and have his IMEI number. I rang the guy yesterday after orange telling me its blacklisted to say why did you sell me lost/stolen phone he said he will speak to vodaphone and see they can unblock it (strange). He rang after couple of minutes later said phone wont work on orange network only on vodaphone and offered me refund straightaway. At this point all i wanted was money back and then report him.
I got the refund now but asked him why he tried selling contract lost phone to me. He said he had previous phone stolen so they sent him new phone which he sold to me at point of sale he did not say he has on contract. I think he tried to scam me but i had all the proof to proof he sold me lost phone which he tried to do insurance scam.
I rang Vodafone to tell them what happened girl said all they can do is blacklist the phone (call center i rang was in Egypt) noting she can do. So i rang sales team who put me through to Customer services in uk i told them the same story but he said call in the morning system is playing up.
I have now bought sim free from carphonewarehouse today for £495
What do u guys suggest about this should i report him again and leave him to scam others (which i do not want) i dont want to go through hassell if its too much.
What would you guys do in this situation,.
Sorry about grammar and English
First of all I would report him to Gumtree to stop him from scamming anyone else on there.

Secondly if you can find the network that blocked the phone it might be worth asking them your options if any to remove block.
Seller has commited fraud unless you where informed phone was blocked.

Thats bollocks.
The device IMEI is unique across all devices, including replacements for stolen devices. So if it is blacklisted, that (usually) means it got stolen and has been blocked due to a police-report by the victim.
Punch line: avoid gumtree. I had a similar situation in the past.

Could you post details of where you met up or what he looks like? I just had my S3 stolen yesterday and I think I may have a rough idea of several people it could have been who pick pocketed me. It's gutting, but I just want to get to the bottom of it now.
I'm going to have the IMEI blacklisted tomorrow, but ideally I wish I could just get the phone back. I'd even have been happy to buy it back off him but whoever took it has turned it off and I'm stuffed.
Any help would be much appreciated.
The guy offered you a refund and apologies to you. Then he gave you the money and sort the problem! I think its an honest mistake which could happen to anyone (but the phone working on Vodafone does not seems to be blacklisted, otherwise it would not work on vodafone as well.) Just avoid buying these kind of things of gumtree in the future, or ask for a prof of purchase

Let's theorize that it was stolen. Two scenarios are possible:
a) he didn't know it was stolen and bought it from someone else too
b) he knew it was stolen but didn't want OP to go to the police so he just refunded the money. OP stated he had his voice and picture on record, so he might have panicked when he was confronted with the fact that the buyer knew it was stolen.
Yeah I have my doubts too of Gumtree... However I did buy this new One X there for a little cheaper than the shops, but it was a sealed one... I don't buy opened phones...
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
Even if it was a scam, the intended victim wasn't you, or he wouldn't have refunded the money.
The victim in the this case is probably Vodafone or a third-party insurance company, and if they don't care enough to do anything about it... well then they have no one to blame but themselves.
He wouldn't have let you see his face if he was going to scam you: even someone who doesn't understand what blacklisting is, would just assume the phone was defective and attempt to get a refund anyway.
When I buy a phone off Gumtree, I test everything before I hand over any money. I always do a IMEI check as well to make sure it is not blacklisted and I find out who's name the phone is registered in. These are the steps everyone should make when buying a pre owned phone.

I agree with others, if he wasintending to scam you, you would never got a refund that's how scammers work. I believe it was either an honest mistake or an insurance scam, not an intention to scam you.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
He clearly tried to scam me but I took his picture, got him recorded, voice recording of him talking to me about the phone. He only refunded me because I had evidence that he sold me the phone.

I'm surprised by how many S3's are for sale on Gumtree, many state that they are sealed in the box ?
is there another scam or something that they maybe selling stolen from shops warehouses etc that would allow this ?
ie they may work for a while but then are blacklisted and become useless ?

If the warranty is tied to the serial number that means if it has a defect I can still have LG send me a new one correct?
I was sort of wondering the same thing - near new condition, but for the same price as the store - $350. Just not sure if it is worth the cash going from my trusty HD2
With taxes and shipping at the play store, it comes out about the same or $20 less. I say go for it

Google's warranty is only for the original buyer. LG's manufacturer warranty is what goes by serial number. If something went wrong with the phone you would not be able to RMA through Google but would have to send it in to LG for repairs, and they do not give out replacements. Unless you can get the seller to RMA it for you, or give you all his information about the purchase.

No. They only do repairs and do not give replacements. You will be without a phone for at least 2 weeks.

I sent mine in last Friday for a faulty USB board on the phone itself. I'll be able to verify if the phone is different than the one I sent.
I can't envision LG having spare mainboards laying around. I would guess that they ship a refurb and send yours to the place (likely out of country) to become a refurb.

Google can transfer the warranty if his gmail is the one it was purchased under. Basically Google would need his gmail account and good authorization for transfer.
I was told by a Google Rep to set up a conference call between myself and the original purchaser to get it transferred.
Too bad for me that the guy stopped answering any communications and I had to send it to LG.

I'm just going by a previous poster in another thread who had to send his in to get a screen and digitizer replaced. It took him two weeks to get it replaced and it was the same phone that came back. Its pretty easy to replace a board and I would imagine they have spares for replacement but it would be nice to see if you get a refurb or the same phone back. Have to favorite this thread or I'll forget to check back.

Hi there,
I bought this Galaxy S4 (model sgh-1337) on eBay. It cost 600$
I thought I was getting a 32GB version, but it turned out to be a 16GB.
Furthermore, there was other odd things about it... like the battery says it was made in Korea and assembled in Vietnam.
Also, look @ the two pictures attached.
The first one shows when I remove the back, and the battery; there is some writing that says "unlocked, do not remove" does anyone know why it would say that?
The second one shows the "Qualcomm 4g" sticker on the top, and it's kind of crooked, as if someone put it on...
but when I check EMEI it is valid, and a real phone...
what do you guys think?
The seller claimed to not know it was only 16GB, and has offered 20$ back...
should I return this phone? or should I keep it?
I downloaded software and it says this phone is genuine.
I'm just worried about that sticker on the back, what's it for? the one that says do not remove...
have you checked the IEMI number that's in the phone? check with the powers that be to see if it's blacklisted? To me the phone smells of fish and I'd get your money back ASAP. talk to the seller, contact ebay, put a claim in with PayPal and put a stop on your account. Ebay is too shady of a place to buy a phone IMO.
to get your IEMI number dial *#06# on your dial pad or go from the home screen Tap Menu key > Settings > More > About device > Status > IMEI
Return! One can be had for far less than $600!! Especially if it's only a 16gb and USED! My Qualcomm sticker was crooked too, that's not an issue.

I agree, though, this phone smells fishy...
the problem is I didn't pay with Paypal, I used interac E-Transfer, which is kind of like an online wire transfer...
and now the guy is saying "sure, I'll refund you, send me the phone back first"
how do I know if I send him the phone he simply won't keep my money AND the phone?
PS. Where can I buy another one? where you guys getting it for under 600$?
I agree. $600 is too much. I would've sold mine for $500 and it's in like new condition. decided to just trade it for a brand new LG Optimus G Pro
I think when I got my sgh-i337 from att, the Qualcomm sticker was around the sleep button (not sure..)? Also it looks like this is a sgh-i337m which means it should be an unlocked bootloader. Perhaps this is why the sticker says "unlocked.."? I would return this regardless, looks way too shady.

Already been using it for more than a month now just a battery issue, which Samsung is replacing for free as the phone is under warranty
Hmmm. Looks fishy.. and Why is there a sticker saying unlocked do not remove?....... Also the Qualcomm sticker is in the right place (thats where mine was from at&t). Does look like it was moved.... Also....
Why would you buy one for 600 when you could probably buy from the carrier for that price?

As for him stealing your phone and your money, I'd contact ebay's support and interac e-transfer to see what their policies are about a situation like this. I'm curious, why did you use interac? do you not have a paypal account or did the seller require it? Do you have the seller's address and not a PO box?

You overpaid, sucks, but learn and live. Keep the phone and use it, at least it isn't a piece of junk.

****, Ebay said I'm not covered since I bought it outside of Ebay....
So now it's a risk... if I send him the phone back, and he doesn't send me my money, I'm screwed.
****!!!!!!
I really don't need this....
any advice guys?

You cant expect him to issue a refund without getting the phone back first...He would be risking the exact same thing. As an Ebay Powerseller we issue refunds once the product has been returned. This is standard.
I honestly would consider keeping the phone....
if it wasn't for that sticker at the back that says "unlocked, do not remove"
what the hell is that? it seems so sketchy...
but a hardware review shows this phone passes, it's genuine, not a clone, and all is working fine...
I'd rather keep it, tbh
but WTF is that sticker!?!?!?!!

Maybe the seller has a bin full of them and marked which ones were unlocked and which weren't. They he grabs one, throws a battery in and a cover then ships it out.

I checked the EMEI number, and it seems to be good.

File a claim with Ebay becuase of it not being what was listed they will go after him and get the money for you then they will have you send the phone back once the phone is shipped with tracking number Ebay will refund you thats the best way and 600 for 16gb is hi.
They gave me shipping instructions to send my repair to. They said the repair would be free of charge, even though I said the damage was accidental. The call also disconnected while setting up repair and they called me back! Overall very pleasant experience. I'll keep you guys posted. Will be shipping tomorrow.
I'm in the US and the number that called me is from L.A. California.
Okay guys, I just got my device back. It looks like a new device (can't tell if it's refurbished, but I think it's new.) It did not come in an original box, but it came with the screen protector installed, no fingerprints and it looks brand new. Serial number is definitely different than the one I sent in. I shipped the phone on the 18th, they got it on the 20th. Then they shipped the (new) phone out on the 21st and I got it today. Needless to say I'm very impressed with the service Le Eco provided, considering the damage was accidental and really should have cost me something to fix (aside from me paying shipping both ways it was free.) They even threw in another charger. I'm in the US and it was replaced with another x727 model.
Almost want to buy another phone from them for a family member...haha
Wow that's good to know. Was your device rooted when you sent it or did you restore it to stock?

They had me pay shipping both ways. (You include a prepaid shipping label in the package that you send them.) I happened to have a spare Nexus 5x that worked for me in the mean time. If you don't have another phone to use, might need to buy a cheapo one for a few days. Le Eco only had my phone for roughly 24 hours or so before it was shipped back. :good:

Restore stock 5.8.20s twrp backup from Dev section. It'll include the recovery too.
I was able to root my phone again. Just follow one of the newer Pat's in the bootloader thread. You'll have to manually flash the aboot image then you're good.

Which number did you call? I have a completely shattered screen on my L3 Pro 3 might be worth it to see if they will send me out a new one.
I also would like to know the number you called; my lens just spiderwebbed.
