Once you root, you can't update via phone any more. You'll have to download the firmware and flash with Odin.

Thanks ! If I download a firmware from lets say sammobile, I'm pretty sure I'm gonna loose root, right ?
Is it going to working anyway even if I'm rooted ? I remember the old days when we couldn't flash stock firmwares when rooted (yes, been a long time since I used stock roms).
Does flashing new firmware means mandatory full wipe ?

Flash with mobile Odin and you can root+inject supersu+install mobile Odin in the same time. Did that today on S5 international (F) and mobile Odin 4.20

You have some options:
1. Flash a custom firmware through custom recovery.
2. Download the latest firmware and flash it through ODIN. For know what firmware is the best for you, conect it to Kies and tell me the 3 letters close to ur CSC

there is no way to get official update via software update or kies?
its just the update didt arrived for your country and there is 2 solutions :
1- wait till the update arrive
2- download & falsh the Update VIA Odin
if you flash it with odin nothing wrong will happen i just recommend you to backup everything :good:

you need to flash 4.3 then 4.4.2 Because of the bootloader

Where can i download all these firmwares?
Download 4.3 Here
You Want to download 4.4.2 you will need to signup to www.sammobile.com
then enter firmware section then search for your device in search bar "GT-I9500" then choose country and download
PS: if you dont know how to flash VIA Odin Search XDA or Google it

[Q] Root and Firmware Upgrade?

So I'm new to Samsung (switched from HTC One to Nexus 5 (2013) to Galaxy S5 today). I used Chainfire's Odin tool to root (was easy enough), but now I'm getting a notification telling me there is an update, which because my phone is "modified" I can't run. I downloaded the Kies3 application and this is the info I'm getting:
Current firmware version : PDA:NC9 / CSC:NC6 / PHONE:NC9 (DBT)
Latest firmware version : PDA:NCE / CSC:NC7 / PHONE:NCE (DBT)
Can I update or do I run the risk of bricking? Or will I just lose root? Will the root tool work after this upgrade? Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks
A guy on a T-Mobile S5 subforum says he took the update and then rooted with Chainfire afterwards.
He was not rooted prior to the update though.
did it work?
because i had a problem with it

I finally bit the bullet and just did it, update went fine using Kies and then I re-rooted and installed custom recovery...everything seems fine. The only thing that blows my mind is the bloatware on this monster..."Android optimizing....429 apps" !!!

[Q] How to update to 5.0.1

Hi,
Im from the netherlands and noticed that the update for 5.0.1 is available.
I have the Exynos (N910C) version android 4.4.4 rooted installed now.
I have changed dpi settings true xposed.
What is the best way to update to the new version 5.0.1 ?
Thanks,
Roy
I have used the auto root to root the stock rom.
N910C is Exynos, not Snapdragon, so choose your ROM carefully.
Best way to upgrade is to backup everything first, then install new ROM with Odin (download correct version from sammobile), then root using your method of choice (I personally recommend flashing TWRP recovery and choose root on exit).
After that, you can restore everything you need from the backups.

Your device was rooted and no way to upgrade 5.0.1 via OTA. The only way now is download latest Firmware (for your Area) on Sammobile.com or similar website then using Odin to upgrade. Remember: full wipe on recovery first then flashing FW via Odin on Downloadmod.
Thanks for the awnsers. i meant the Exynos, sorry for that.
I havent tryed to update it true normal update way becouse i thought this wasnt possible as my device is rooted.
So i might try if i can do this?
Roy
OTA will fail because you tripped Knox when you rooted.
Besides, lollipop brings a new bootloader, modem and csc, so even if you choose to flash a custom lollipop ROM, you still need to upgrade those using Odin.

thanks,
I have installed the 5.0.1 version true odin without doing a full wipe. I still have all my apps and files and it seems to work oke.
Did i have to do a full because of the battery draining stuff? or is it oke like this?
Roy
Should be fine as it is, but a full wipe once in a while never hurts...
If you notice something wrong, battery drain, lag or even applications force-close, then why not... perform a full wipe and restore your apps and settings gradually.
Make sure you backup everything, i failed my stock update to android 5..0.1 (OTA), and now i still didnt found anyway to get my data back, it remains dead there
Titanium Backup FTW

Trying to revert back to stock rom N910F

Hey guys,
I'm trying to revert back to the stock rom on my N910F (UK purchase - unlocked) but no matter which firmware I download via Sammobile, it just isn't working! It says "FAILED" on Odin when flashing. The only firmware that seems to work is N910FXXU1COH4_DevBase_alexndr - but this version has constant knox notifications and I'm giving my phone to a family member who doesn't want root or anything because she's not very good with phones, she also wants the stock rom installed only.
Can anybody advise me on where I'm going wrong or the firmware I need to install? Should I attempt 5.0 instead of 5.1? Thanks in advance!

Make absolutely sure you have the proper firmware, (correct country code) and so on..
Also..do you have a custom recovery installed.? IF so, you'll probably need to flash the stock recovery from the OS your needing to revert..after stock recovery is working, then flash the firmware..

Root lost after upgrading to G900W8VLS1DPF3 !

I recently upgraded my S5 firmware to G900W8VLS1DPF3 and a few hours later security update prompt popped up. I went ahead and installed it. Later I realised that root was lost, not sure if it was the security update or the firmware upgrade. Tried PD3 version of CF-Root, it ran successfully but still no root access available. I have tried to look around on the Internet to see anyone has been able to root this firmware, couldn't see anything relevant.
So, is it possible to root this PF3 version, has anyone been successful? Any other methods I could try?
Thanks
No one has a clue?
Hi!
It seems your phone is
Canada (Telus)(TLS)
SM-G900W8
GALAXY S5
6.0.1
flash SuperSU through custom recovery (TWRP for example)
Samsung TWRP page https://twrp.me/devices/samsunggalaxys5qualcomm.html

While I don't know of a website that hosts modem
Images but you can download the whole firmware image and
extract the modem firmware and flash it, which you
probably are aware.
