HDMI TV output: Just the videos or entire user interface?

Does anyone know if you can push the homescreen/email/web/etc to a tv or just videos. There is a video online of the Incredible doing the whole UI so I am hopeful that its the same with the EVO.

I think its just videos... I may be mistaken but if it is, I'm sure someone will put something together that allows the whole UI.

I'm pretty sure regardless of what it does out of the box, once we have root and start fiddling around that will be one thing that gets hacked pretty quickly.

Unfortunately, the TV doesn't mirror the phone's UI. Only videos and slideshows play on the TV - the rest of your content is stuck on your phone, including still images, games, and presentations.

I think it would be awesome to push the whole UI and then use an app such as Airmouse or TouchMouse (iPhone Apps) to lay in bed and control your device. So awesome to just view/play movies with the help of an iPod touch air mouse app.
BTW I would gladly pay for this app if someone could develop it.

So you want to get your UI on the TV so you can watch yourself controlling your device with airmouse?
I see an Xzibit 4chan image in the making here.

It's too bad this phone doesn't have DLNA support like some of the Samsung phones have. That way we can forget about the whole HDMI cable thing and stream it wirelessly.

There are several DLNA apps on the market. they work pretty well.

It's the same principle as putting displaying your desktop on your TV. It's just a better experience. I have a Dell Mini 10V with Mac OS on it. I connect that to my TV and work from my bed or browse internet with AirMouse.

I can't believe my phone can do this...

Leys talk about those things you just are in awe over our in shock that your phone can do certain things..
I'll start with a few things and leave some for others, or maybe I'll find out some more cool apps..
Heads up display.. I just found out about this, and got an app that will display speed info and compass right onto the windshield at night, and it does an awesome job at it. I use an app called speed view.
Remote control my computer mouse and keyboard..not for everyone but I have my computer hooked up to my fifty five inch tv and sit on my couch, sometimes I don't feel like pulling out my wireless keyboard and mouse,i just load up the remote droid on my phone and it works pretty damn good.
Roku remote..same as above,it copies what my roku remote looks like right onto my phone..works through my network and works flawless..
Sling box.. Watch direct tv on my phone, need hardware but well worth it..again works flawless...
Voice search programs like googles search and vlingo. The accuracy is amazing..
So those are just a few of "i can't believe my phone can do this"

I must say this is a big one. After 5 smartphones the EVO is the first phone I've had that I don't have a major issue with. It does everything I expect when I expect it.
I must admit though that the speech recognition is pretty amazing for a device this size.

Not really a jaw dropping feature...but does help me because i used to have an issue doing this:
I found out that the easiest way to move an app or widget from the main screen is by holding it, then dragging it onto another app or occupied space. By doing that, the screen will hold the widget/app in that place. Then you just swipe through the screens and place it somewhere.

My thoughts exactly... Some people just can't comprehend !

what does it not do

Time Recorder. Don't have to worry about my boss getting "creative" when he totals up hours for payroll. Tikl Touch to Talk. A repeater radio over the 3G network is pretty damn cool. Seems kinda silly but Google Maps. The amount of info and the speed with which it can be accessed is incredible. This was really put into perspective watching my boss drag out a paper map and try to find an address he was not familiar with. Ouch! The Evo is my third smart phone and it is so far superior to the first two it blows me away.

I like to use my phone for watching movies

1. It just works (came from WinMo and Palm before that)
2. Customizable home screens
3. Angry Birds and Live Hold 'em - I'm addicted
4. Voice recognition is awesome, especially when I'm driving and using GMaps
5. Streaming radio
6. Flash-enabled browser
7. Flashlight - lame, I know, but incredibly useful
8. An app market and an active developer community
Most importantly - it can do everything I need it to do, and it does it all very well. My only 'complaint', if it is a complaint, is that Sense UI is not as buttery smooth as Samsung's on the Epic 4G.

1. It just works(repetitive i know)
2. Wifi Tether
3. kernel/rom/interface customization
4. versatility(i can change things on a whim, not wait for Apple to "release" a feature)
5. GIANT screen. ( i have a hard time using the fiance's iphone. it's too small)
6. Support base here at XDA(the mods and hacks for this thing exceeded anything i could have imagined)
7. expandable memory(the iphone's have to buy new models to get more storage. we just swap a memory card and sell the old one!)
8. High-end camera(video recording still needs some work, but the digital is pretty darn great)

Sprint TV. If I want the kids quiet on my long daily commute, I just load up the Disney Channel, and get sweet silence from the back seat.

Blink feed and IR blaster

So most of the review website said that the Blink feed is something that they would not use much and the same goes for the IR blaster. I would like to know how many people use and like these new features?
I thought too that i would not use blink feed but i tend to use much more than i thought. I have not tried the IR blaster though

I like the blinkfeed because I usually always do my headline rounds but this puts them right up front for me. The tv program has the potential to be very useful if they expand the capabilities of the software to control things like roku boxes or expand control of exsisting boxes.

Very Useful and thoughtful features
I am using Blinkfeed right from day 1. I used to be a great fan of friend stream earlier on HTC phones and this has taken the functionality to a new level all together. it is very nicely laid out and a great feature. Wish there was an option to configure update frequency. I would have set it to update every 30 minutes or so, currently it seems it updates frequently on Wi-Fi and not so frequently on mobile network.
IR blaster is a practical feature along with TV guide, Looking forward to guide available for India as well.

I like Blinkfeed (well at least I did when my phone was home - still not back from warranty). Only gruge I hold against it is the fact that for now it's not possible to add specific feeds.
As for the IR blaster it's really useful...and very fun. Some people at work are still wondering if the cafeteria TV is possessed...

Blink Feed is on for a while and then I turn it off for a while. It disappears when I load Apex, which is becoming my more or less permanent launcher. I kind of like it but it needs more flexibility in content sources before I'll use it regularly.
The IR unit is totally cool imo - great idea and long overdue.

I use the IR blaster as my theatre and lounge remote at the moment. Could do with a few more features but I don't have another universal remote so this works a treat. Would lime it to be able to scroll through Aussie foxtel content rather than just free to air on the device though. Blinkfeed as home screen imo is not great, but as a swipe left I love it.

You need 2 polls. Can only vote once for Blinkfeed, but not then for IR blaster. Both used.

My phone is coming this week but personally I am looking forward to these features. I like to quickly browse my news feeds so i am going to set blinkfeed as the first screen to the left from my homescreen. The IR blaster should be great as I am always playing around on my phone while watching the tv, I am also looking forward pranking people

Both for me are nothing more than a gimmick.
They are cool for a while, but not in my daily use anymore.

You can set the homescreen to be whichever screen you like. Doesn't have to go to blink feed. Edit - you knew that already.

Just don't think it should be default. I like what it is. But most people I know(out of the tech world) don't even know what most of the Aussie sites in the feed are!

I use the IR blaster a lot... id use blink feed more if it had reddit

I'm using blink feed more than I thought I would. Also using tv remote quite often. Even if you don't really use it all the time it's still a cool thing imo.

Blinkfeed is ace. Custom sources (specifically Reddit) would take it up a level though.

I use Blinkfeed also more than i thought, news on the topics I am interested in catch my eye so I view them, the IR Blaster function I have tried a few times and its cool but I cant see myself using for much longer than a few months.

I'm still on the fence for the blink feed but the IR blaster is great now I can just carry my phone to use as a remote for all my tv's through out my house

Not messed with blinkfeed would rather not have it to be honest but the ir blaster can stay won't buy another phone if it doesn't have this on now excellent idea

Love the Blink Feed, keeps me entertained in the odd moments I have free in the day. Gives a good quick look at what's going on in the world. I dislike the social side of it though, far too much junk comes from Facebook/Twitter. Switched to just news articles only.
As for the IR blaster, very useful. I work in a nightclub with 15+ TV's of different manufacturers (None of which have remotes..) So the IR blaster is a godsend rather than running round pressing the power off on each TV individually. Great feature all round.

How is the IR blaster and the QuickRemote feature?

I am curious how the LG G2 IR blaster works as a remote control compared to the GS4 and HTC One? Is it very responsive to turning on your TV? What about for DVD/Bluray players or Air conditioners?

My good friend has an S4 and it works identical to his. Pretty much have to point the phone directly at the IR sensor. But that can also depend on the device you are controlling. But i do know the built in app, quick remote is a great app and has worked with every device I have currently. Tvs, sounds systems, dish, etc

it's pretty bad. there's absolutely no range. you have to literally be standing directly in front of what you're using.. not off to the side whatsoever. the gs4 had better range and angles.

Interesting. The LG G2's IR blaster looks like the same size as the GS4 but way smaller than the HTC One. I don't get why it would have range or angle issues compared to the GS4.

Doesn't handle complex remotes from what I've seen so far. Tried to add a WMC remote and that was fail-tastic.

Those are precisely my observations with the Verizon G2:
Windows Media Center 7 is next to impossible to control unless I am nearly touching the IR receiver.
My Panasonic V10 plasma is also next to impossible to control unless I am 2-3 feet from the IR receiver.
I can't get my Denon AVR to control at all.
Looks like I'm sticking with Ceton's media center app and my harmony one for a while longer.

Anyone try a different IR app?

I had the S4 before and I love the remote on the G2. It's more basic but on my stuff it's faster and doesn't have all the watch on junk I don't care about. Also you can access it from the notification bar from anywhere and you can use it on the lock screen even with a pass code.

I find that it works, but like others have mentioned you need a pretty good direct line of sight. I have it set up for my Sony TV, Sony Blu-Ray, Pioneer Receiver and my Xbox. TBH, I haven't tested how well the xbox controlls work, but I had to manually program it using a different Xbox remote that I already had. Based on previous use w/ a physical Xbox remote, the IR sensor in the Xbox is pretty crappy, I don't expect the G2 to be any better. Bottom line: It's convenient at times, and annoying at others. total wash.

Thanks for all the responses. I don't mind that I need to be line of sight in order to use the remote control feature because who honestly is not facing the TV or what not when they are using the remote. These IR blasters are a new thing on smartphones so I am sure future generations will be better.

I was excited to try out the IR blaster on my new verizon lg g2 and was very disappointed as well. It's not that you have to be facing what you are controlling but you need to be really close. My couch is probably 8-12 feet back from the tv depending on where you sit, and it doesn't even come close to controlling anything unless i reach all the way out and lift my arm all the way up so the angle is perfectly pointing at the device. It's incredibly awkward and a complete waste of time. Oh and that is if i'm at the closest distance, anything further and it doesn't work at all no matter how I angle it. Don't get me wrong I love this phone but the IR blaster is pretty much useless. Maybe mine is defective but even during setup when i was standing 4 feet away I had to click multiple times for it to do anything. I read a lot of reviews on the device and didn't see anyone complain about it until I started digging.. All the major sites just raved that it had an IR blaster and that it worked similar to the other recent phones that have come out with IR blasters.. No mention that it has horrible range at all. I only found this thread and 1 others talking about bad range.

Could someone post the APKs? I accidentally deleted mine when I was uninstalling all of the bloat.

Same problem here...totally useless. I have 4 different brands of tv' sand I only can get it to work on one of them. Will not work with any directv boxes. Total crap.

don't know about the negative comments but it seems to work great in my house Samsung hd tv sony hi fi and humax set top box hd all work excellently ? no problems whatsoever so not sure why maybe because im using it in a small room idk but ive no negative things to say about it

Works with my directv boxes and my Samsung tv. The drawback is you need to be close or our won't work.

N5 didnt have it, although kitkat supported it. I thought google will make it norm with next nexus.

I think that they're in the same boat as me in thinking it more as a novelty feature. My notes have had it as well as my G3 but they're all pretty weak on the software side and the blaster is always finicky on range and the angle at which you point it. If you want a real universal get a normal remote with a proper blaster. Unless you're trying to show off or screw around with the TVs at the bar, it's kind of pointless.

I use mine alllllll the time. I have 2 kids and 2 dogs that love to play hide and seek with them lol. I literally have all my TV's, blue ray/dvd players, cable boxes, and sound systems programed on my Note 3 and love it! I also travel (I literally am gone 6 months+ a year) and much prefer my phone over most hotels eco-remotes. I would have loved to seen this as a feature personally as well.

The best is using it at sports bars and start turning off their tv

If there a device you can connect to via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi that will convert to infrared to control TVs?

That's one thing I forgot about that I'll miss from my g2. I didn't use it often but when I did it was handy. (It's fun shutting the projectors off in classes that are boring lol.

I liked having one on my HTC One M7 but barely used it after the first week. I also had one on my GS4 Active, but the remote software was nowhere near as good as HTC's so I never used it. It's not something that I've missed since getting rid of those phones. It would be cool to have, but it's more novelty than anything.

I have it on my Note 3. I used it once, much like multi window, to be able to say oh neato. Then never used it again. I'm glad they didn't waste time or money putting it into the N6.

There was a funding available for an IR blaster that plugs into the 3.5mm headphone jack on any phone.

Says only for apple devices. But that looks really nice. If I really missed it I'd buy one but probably won't miss it much

Though I can't seem to find anything regarding their app on the Play Store.

Once I purchased smart ir remote in the play store, this feature is a must have. I will stick with my GPE M8 for now. May get a Nexus 6 off swappa in a few months

might look into that sennheiser one but do you know of any that connect to your phone via bluetooth or wifi and can transmit IR signal? I'd like to avoid having to attach a device to my phone everytime i want to use the TV. Chromecast can turn on one of my TVs but the other it can't. I wish they'd put a turn off feature in the chromecast.

Interesting that your Chromecast will turn on the TV, but you are looking for a way to turn it off. I've got a smart TV that I can't turn on by Chromecast or otherwise from my phone but I can turn it off!
