HDMI TV output: Just the videos or entire user interface? - EVO 4G General

Does anyone know if you can push the homescreen/email/web/etc to a tv or just videos. There is a video online of the Incredible doing the whole UI so I am hopeful that its the same with the EVO.

I think its just videos... I may be mistaken but if it is, I'm sure someone will put something together that allows the whole UI.

I'm pretty sure regardless of what it does out of the box, once we have root and start fiddling around that will be one thing that gets hacked pretty quickly.

Unfortunately, the TV doesn't mirror the phone's UI. Only videos and slideshows play on the TV - the rest of your content is stuck on your phone, including still images, games, and presentations.

I think it would be awesome to push the whole UI and then use an app such as Airmouse or TouchMouse (iPhone Apps) to lay in bed and control your device. So awesome to just view/play movies with the help of an iPod touch air mouse app.
BTW I would gladly pay for this app if someone could develop it.

So you want to get your UI on the TV so you can watch yourself controlling your device with airmouse?
I see an Xzibit 4chan image in the making here.

It's too bad this phone doesn't have DLNA support like some of the Samsung phones have. That way we can forget about the whole HDMI cable thing and stream it wirelessly.

Likewise I would pay for this capability also.

It's the same principle as putting displaying your desktop on your TV. It's just a better experience. I have a Dell Mini 10V with Mac OS on it. I connect that to my TV and work from my bed or browse internet with AirMouse.

Dev Request - HDMI Desktop Out

Ok, I'm getting this "phone". I've been sitting around waiting for a release date for what seems like a year now, lol.
Here is my one request, from the marvelous XDA dev community, who has never ceased to amaze me in the years I've been here.
I want this thing to do HDMI out. I'm not talking pushing a YouTube video out of the HDMI port, I want to see Android on my 24" monitor. I want to be able to use a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard to run the controls, and I want to be able to dock my Streak and use it on a larger display. 720p/1080p would be a huge bonus, but I have no idea what limitations are in place there.
Ok, that's it. Make that happen, and I will be very happy.
If you pay £55 for the Dell Home AV Kit it will do this I believe......
Granted, I don't have a Streak on which to try it out...but isn't that only for videos (YouTube, video files, etc)? As far as I'm aware, you don't get the actual desktop, right?
I don't have one either, but in a video I saw it appeared that the dock only pushes the video through the HDMI and not the android "desktop."
I too would love to be able to do this though!
Ah right thats not too good then, the Samsung Galaxy seems to be TV-Out and just replicated the system as on the screen, I'm thinking of buying a Nokia N900 to play with as it has TV out and would let me play SNES / Mega Drive games etc when I'm in a hotel room.
I wonder if full TV Out is something we could hack
£55 is a lot for just movies out...i was hoping for full android on my big tv

Yeah, that's for sure. Big deal, if I wanna watch just movies, I'll find a computer and do it. The power of HDMI-out is in being able to use Android on your phone on the go, and then docking it and using it as a netbook-replacement when at a desk (or as a HTPC when in the living room, etc.)
Give it a few months once the Chinese get their hands on it and they will churn out the Accessories and flood ebay
I need this also for a bmw idrive integration. I'm sure the community will crack it.

i would love to do this while also running ubuntu it would be like christmas (or when i first heard about android) i would dock it and BAM i would have ubuntu then dissconnect it and id have android

I just bought a BMW with the new 1280 pix CiC I-Drive display. With a Motorola Bionic, I'm hoping to send TV to the phone via SlingBox and send the HDMI out from the phone to the display in the car.
Thoughts?

Hdmi out is limited to video and audio....why?

This might be a rant, so I apologist up front but..........
When the dock costs 50 quid why does it only allow the video and audio to be outputted?
What I was hoping is that it could see the operating system and effectively act as a monitor and therefore a portable computer.

Maybe someone can write an app like they did for the DroidX that outputs everything you see on the screen.

This is what majority of owners want - to watch a movie on TV and play some music.
The ability to have desktop on TV is useless for them - you cannot touch TV screen to press a button anyway...
But you can touch the dell, therefore touch screen monitor not required.
I also have 3 devices for watching films on my tv (cable, ps3 and dvd player) why do I need another one. But if I could replace them with something better I would.
The present function is not better but in fact worse as I have remotes for my other players
Hdmi out for the full phone means you can browse the internet, check emails via the tv, this becomes a media center that could rival apples iTv. As you could watch hulu, most british tv, love film streams, amazon etc straight from the device. If it was done via wireless or then it would be a remote also, the perfect device.
Short sighted developers and a lack of understanding of what is possible is the only thing blocking it.

The desktop on TV is pointless...

You don't have to convince me that it is nice use case.
I am only saying that from Dell point of view it is so rare, that it's not worth working on it. ROI is to low.
You may support my effort for porting Maemo/MeeGo to Streak, though.
Maemo/MeeGo offers everything you mentioned and more.
Ie. I already have a working setup with bluetooth keyboard and mouse connected to my Nokia N900, which is connected to TV for display.
it would be preferable if the screen stayed "on" the telly (or monitor?) for everything though - saves going back and forth between the two screens. Can understand why it's not a priority for Dell though, but I think they'd sell more docks if it DID do full output....i'd probably buy one then!
I presume it's not possible for someone to develop something?..............

Not really, The streak becomes the remote for the screen. Keyboard and track pad.

Defo support bluetooth keyboard, not too bothered for a mouse, defo support an output to monitor.

I would definitely buy a full HDMI app if one existed like one for the Streak.

+1 In a New York minute.
Full HDMI support and BT Keyboard and Mouse! This combo will be the best! Just add a 42" flat tv and you've got a good everyday PC for multimedia, internet, email an so much more!

Possible to "stream" live GT screen to TV using DLNA?

How cool it would be to show the GT screen on TV through DLNA.. why use the HDMI dock if this would be possible.
Does anyone feel up to take the challenge of making such an app?
I would pay for such an app...anyone ells?

The CPU overhead would make it virtually unusable even if it can be done.
I believe you can stream movies and such to DNLA compatible TVs...
Don't think you can stream just the home screen though...

Correct, I can use the Allshare to stream videos directly to my Samsung TV, and it works quite well. But it doesn't do the whole UI, essentially it's just pushing the datastream to the TV and the TV does the decoding/rendering, so the only overhead is the usual WiFi processing, plus a little for AllShare.
It's actually a fairly practical solution other than the relatively limited codec support, which is still surprisingly good (It'll play some .MKV files!)

Play as remote

I have a xoom and I run fpse and n64oid on it and I hate the on screen keyboard so I was wondering is there a way to use my phone as a remote for those emulators on my tablet?

That would be cool. I have an Ipad 2 that connects to the TV so it would be as if the Ipad was a bunch of consoles.
actually i was thinking in some identical direction, everyone knows splashtop or crazyremote i guess. it allowes u to cloud/stream, with minimal lag, ur pc-games to an android device. just a little question, i know this may need some custom rom. but is there a chance ( also in a technical way, especially when a new kernel/rom (sorry im not a dev ^^") is out)that someone could make a prog like splashtop ( minimal lag cloud/stream remote client) with the use of the xperia play buttons as a controller in windows through wifi? i guess this could be an answer to all our dreams, having a strong cloud computer, rendering all our beloved games Just dreaming , i know, cause i can imagine how much work this will need, but playing with balls of steel (;D), i know every other phoneuser would get jealous.
I love using Splashtop on my Ipad. It is one of my Fav apps. That and Air Vid.
The Air Vid dev said he won’t make an android version because:
It's been mentioned here many times, unless Android gets solid live http streaming protocol support the Air Video port is very unlikely.

Cloning Screen on a Win8 Notebook (wireless)?

Is there an easy possibility to clone the screen of my s4 on my Win8 Notebook? I know there is a function for apple products (i.e. iphone/ipad and mbp via airport), but I would prefer a non-apple solution which is more open (but as simple).

Are you looking for video or video+audio? If you just want to mirror the screen, you can get something like Droid VNC Server or TeamViewer QuickSupport. If you want to broadcast audio and video then I'm not sure how you'd do that.

Cloning the screen would be enough. (audio broadcasting just a nice extra though...)
I have a 4540s that I hackintoshed with Windows 8 as a dual boot. In mavericks, airplay works great on my Apple tv this probably isn't much help though, but it took so long to get it all working that I wanted to brag

Well yeah, those work, and you can also try BBQscreen demo in legacy mode and that might work a bit faster. I tried it but I was too lazy to make it work well.
It's a pitty that there doesn't seem to be an equivalent for airplay/airport for android/windows...
Sometimes Apple definitely does something good... ^^

Well technically Apple's Airplay doesn't just play on a Mac without a program on the Mac either. To airplay to a Mac you need a server program, same as android. Google also makes the Chromecast to compete with the Apple TV, and either devices can to display out through a cable.
