[Q] Moving app to SD - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I have a Canadian Note 3 running cm11 snapshot... I am not able to move app to SD like I did in the past with an old ZTE blade.
Of course I do have a good SD, should I install an additional app to do that or does it work from OS?
Thanks

You can try foldermount. It's an app that should work. You can find it on the playstore.

So there is no such thing inside the OS, you need for sure an app for that!!
Thanks

It's not working... they say it's a limit from samsung...

App to SD?

I purchased a 64GB microSD card but I noticed I can't move apps to SD? Anyone know why it's disabled? I know I have 16GB but there are just some apps I'd rather put on the SD card.
I'm thinking the same thing I also got S4 I cannot figure out how to move apps and is there a way?
Did you guys try batch move in titanium backup?
Edit : probably the worst thing to suggest as the device haven't been rooted yet

Me neither. :/
#1: Moving apps to SD is no longer available (or an option) as of Ice Cream Sandwich+ (Android 4.1.x and beyond - I hate this, as well)...
#2: There is no root yet for the AT&T S4, FYI...

Oh shaaaaat. Makes me think maybe I should have waited for the 32GB. But then again, I couldn't stand my old phone (HTC EVO 3D) with it's crap 1GB of storage. With the S4's usable 9GB of free space, maybe it won't be so bad.

Yes you can root, the SnapDragon 600 processor was rooted over the weekend. There is an FYI though there is no backup image available since Samsung hasn't released it yet for Kies. So be aware of the risks before you begin.,

Apps2SD no longer works on JB and definitely doesn't work on GS3, GS4, GN2, Etc. from Samsung. Sorry to say this is why many, like myself are waiting for the 32GB to arrive.

Correct I recall that working on the S3 and GN2. I never got around to it since I got tired of the cat and mouse game with Verizon's bootloader and just didn't want the hassle of it all.
I need to root and try this app. Hopefully it works on sgs4.

No.
Try this instead:
[APP][ROOT] FolderMount - Link folders from internal SD to external to free space
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2192122
And it's on Play Store, too.
I tried doing that with root manager and when I restarted the s4 it would not boot up I linked it to app folder I made on the sd card

will try it out later on just looked into the app root folder mount and is says s4 support was just added on 5-4-13

[Q] App 2 SD

I would like to save files for big games like gameloft etc. on my external sd card. But this isn't possible. On the S3 you could relize this with directory bind or Foldermount, but on the s4 it doesn't work.
any ideas?
That's becouse your device might not be rooted.
When there is an easy root for the s4 and you are rooted directory bind will work.
No, my device is rooted with Su and busybox installed!
Well I started testing with directorybind. It doesn't work for some reason. I'm rooted, using the same method as on my note 2 but for some it doesn't work? Wth?
Anyone having the same issue?

I've got a similar problem. I used my own scripts on an SD card and got Script Manager to execute them on boot. Now SM does not run the mount commands.....not from the SD card and not from /data with correct permissions either. I can ssh into the device and run them just fine but SM can't to it. It DOES execute a mkdir and a sleep command as the end of the script so the script runs WITHOUT the mount commands....not sure what to make of that but could be related.
Did the two people who rooted above tty folder mount?

I don't think ANYTHING is working on the SGS4 at the moment. Devs are working on this. Thanks for nothing Google and Samsung...
The dev of Foldermount is working on the issue.
Tried that app and that app actually works until you reboot your phone and then it's gone again for some reason
I would settle with an internal to sd swap like on the s3 and note2.
But that ain't done yet so we'll have to wait.

[Q] Can't move my apps to a sd card

Hey
So I installed the newest official Samsung firmware which was suppose to allow moving my apps to my sd card. When I go to my apps I can see tge button that says "move to sd card". When I press it the app goes from the phones internal memory to the so called internal sd card which is the same in all s4's instead of the "extSdCard" what is the actual sd card I have.
Why those apps doesn't really go to the sd card and why would Samsung hype this newest update with that feature when it doesn't even work.

Its moves the app only, not the data files.
If you still want to move the files, use foldermount.
Directory bind doesnt work anymore. Only foldermount has a patch to work around it.

No, it doesn't even move the apps. I just said that in the first post. They just go to the internal "sd card" intead of the "extSdCard". I tried with every one of my apps so it's not about some apps not supporting app2sd.

It's not about not supporting if it didn't support it the move to sd card button wouldn't have been highlighted so you are correct

I just got my samsung galaxy s4 (GT-I9500) but it seems that it is impossible to move apps on SD card.
Android Version: 4.2.2
Baseband Version: I9500XXUAMDK
Build Number: JDQ39.I9500XXUAMDK
I also read some forums and learned that samsung already addressed this issue by making the upgrade or updates but unfortunately my phone is up-to-date already.
Can somebody please tell me when does the said update will come out here in Philippines? I believe there's a lot of S4 users who also has this trouble as our phones int. memory gets lower and lower. :crying:
thanks
The update will not save you much of any space, so I'm a bit surprised that people are still so fixated on it.

Cant move apps to sd on my S4..

Hi,
i have recently bought a new S4 and updated it to the latest version where we can move app to sd card. But when i move the apps it still shows the same memory available on my internal memory i.e. it doesn't move the apps to SD card and keeps it in the internal memory of the device whereas in App manager it shows that it is installed in the SD card.
Kindly help me with any solution.
Please have a look at the screenshots attached so will also get a clear idea about it.

Without additional tools you can move the application on sd, but not application data. In some programs, especially games, app data are realy huge.
As you instructed, you can use folder mount to move app data.
But, you must have root.

custom rom or remove bloatware?

Hi,
I will be receiving a galaxy S4 soon.
I need to know what would be the best option.
I am going to root & then either:
remove all bloatware using a no bloat or root uninstall app.
or
install a custom rom Doc Barebone possibly??
I would like to get as much space back as possible as I have heard that you only get around 9gb on a 16gb model.
Ideally I would like to keep (or reinstall with full functionality) the stock camera app.
I am not fussed about all of the touchwiz wizardry.
I also need to be able to install apps 2 sd card
& have live wallpapers & a music & video player
How much space is usable after a doc barebones rom install?
Apologies for all questions, coming back to android after a few years on iphone.
None of roms than I see opens more Space, you can move some apps to sd card.

I read that the Google play rom gives 12gb usable space as there is no bloatware & was considering it also. I thought the doc barebones may give slightly more.
Do all of the custom roms have app2sd functionality?
Can you install live wallpapers on the doc barebones rom?

Thanks for this , it looks like I will install doc barebones as it keeps the stock camera & if I can store apps on sd as well that will be great.
One more question, if installing a rom with no bloatware doesn't give more space, would it not be easier to just root & remove bloat ware from stock.
I'm a bit disappointed I thought I could have got some of the storage back. I read on another thread that Samsung have partitioned it so that 8-9gb is free regardless.
Read elsewhere that the google version of s4 has 12gb free.
Is there no way to completely wipe the phone & installation rom that gives you the same 12gb as the google edition..?
The apps to sd "feature" does not save you any appreciable space. You are far better off using a third party app to move the data to external sd and symlink back to the internal memory.

Reasons why people use Modified Stock ROMS is simply because the developers do a lot of editing as well as build.prop tweaks to insure Performance and Overall Stability.
Regardless of what TW Rom you use, you will have about 8.+ ----9Gb free space...
Don't Say Thanks. Hit IT LOL..
Hi.,
I have the i9505 version. I have rooted using Odin & now have su rights
I noticed that the docsbarebones rom is for the other galaxy.
Are there any roms that keep the stock camera & have apps 2 sd
Apologies noob
*** edit I have tried a few roms , but what I did was unrooted & loaded the german version of stock rom that has apps2sd then used auto root so I can remove bloat.
When I send an app 2 sd it sometimes says your device cannot move 2 sd card.
It still lets me do it though.
*** further edit. It isnt actually working.
Get error "/The_Device_does_not_have_a_real_primary_external_storage_or_the_primary_external_storage_is_emulated__Moving_app_to_SD_Function_my_not_be_supported"
What can I do to get apps2sd?
Does anyone know how to get app2sd on galaxy s4? It says its installing to sd card but its just writing it to internal.
I checked by installing a massive game, said it was all on sd, but when I uninstalled it gave me the space back internally.

That's the way it is supposed to be. The apps to SD feature is such a waste of time, I wonder why anyone even bothers. Only a single small installation file is moved to your external. Everything else is left internally. That is by design. If you want actual app to SD functionality, you're going to have to use a third party app such as Folder Mount to get it.

I think link2sd can do it. I have had no luck though. I cant get it to recognise the second partition.
2 of my main reasons for getting this phone was ability to store apps on external sd & a good camera . They are both frustrating me now as I cant get any method to work for my sd storage & seemingly galaxy s4 has hardware limitation on camera functions my iPhone 4s could do.
