So I accidently dunked my z2 in the bath took it out everything OK used last night when I took it out of the water it said that headphones had been inserted which they hadn't. Anyway today I go to use my noise cancellation headphones and its not recognising anything has been plugged in. So plays through the speaker. Tried headphones elsewhere and they work. Anyone have any ideas ?
Just checked mine it's working. I was washing my phone yesterday to make sure there is no gap issues or problem with waterproofing. Take it back to the shop and tell them headphones are not working.

hey
same problem with me, I washed the phone (didn't even let it sink, just flowing water for a few seconds) meanwhile once it said "headphones recognized" (which it clearly should not lol, it should be secured against shorting the pins out..) and this morning it kept working-notworking (like i was plugging in and out simulteniously) and finally totally stopped working
any ideas? should I try some dry blower ?

nvm I cleaned it with the little ear-cleaning buds/sticks. It did have some moisture to it. After a few tries it started working again. In my opinion, this is still pretty sad and poor performance from a water proof phone..
Take note that it was almost 12 hours ago I washed it.

Hey i feel like unpopular opinon penguin here , but two things 1, dont use sound while under water. and dont use sound features (includes mike) 2-4 hours after it been in water. it says it right in your manual their. 2. if you didnt do those things its posible the build of your phone isnt up to standard. Also i Could be wrong BUT DONT USE COMPRESSED AIR TO CLEAN YOUR PHONE. look im not certain about these seals or water proofing done but they may break under strong air pressure plus you may be pushing the water (unlikely) but further into your phone may be into a place where its not meant to be/ ever gotten two without added focused compressed air maybe even forcing the breakage of a seal (unlikely again with the ip rating) but i would not be risking this . ive tested my phone for water proofing and have not once had a single problem so maybe the phone is faulty. take it back and get it tested dont clean it yourself. it also talks about the warrenty in the manual which talks if seals are broken or moisturefound in certain parts breaks the warrenty so be very carefull. soz for my bad grammar

Hey, guys. I know there are dozens of threads talking about that, but mine is quite specific. First, the toilet disaster highlights one-to-one:
- phone sitting by the sink, which is close to toilet
- stupid movement and there it was, Skype was on.
- took 3 seconds to ignore all the human dignity I'd had and took the SGS from the water
- removed a crappy silicone cover (this one saved me from a more serious accident) very fast and removed the battery as fast as
- towel, paper-towel, rags
- rice bowl
- youtube video showing disassembly instructions (pretty easy)
- contact cleaner
- rice bowl again
It worked perfectly 24 hours later! Screen on, sound ok... very easy device to open.
Everything was fine until I accidentally hit the voice search and the "sound level meter" didn't move.
Microphone is not working since then. Doesn't work for calls, video with sound, audio note... It works fine with the stock earphone though.
Yes, I restored to factory settings.
Yes, I reflashed and reinstalled the ROM.
When I BLOW (with my mouth) into the mic, nothing happens. But when I SUCK it, the michophone seems to "catch" all the noise. Is this a signal of hope?
I opened it again and sprayed a good contact cleaner, right into the mic. No changes.

Did you ever think about to replace the mic?? If ya say its easy to open the phone then you wont have problems to replace the mic I actually dont think its too expansive for ya. So actually its funny to read but I fell with ya. But you shouldnt use skype on the toilet my phone is waiting outside of the bath room, when I'm makin the big deal on the toilet xD

24 hours is way to short to remove water stuck between board and smd components. I think you fired it up to soon. Electronics dont repair themselves, once broken you need to replace parts to get things going again.
Only luck or a wallet can save you now im afraid.

I have had my fair share of phones falling into the loo, Luckily not with my SGS, but with my tocco and my spica.
My tocco survived after leaving it dry on the radiator for a day (on low low temperature)
My spica survived but needed a new screen. which was surprisingly cheap (not genuine part)
Just for my own amusement, Was it a number one or a number two you was doing at the time ?
Funny comments, But serious matter. Take their advice and leave it dry out a little more, You could of made it worse by powering it up. But lets not jump to conclusions just yet,
If drying it out for longer dont work. See if you can make a bit of cash by selling it for parts on ebay or similar.
Oh and is it on a contract ? if so do you have insurance ? or are you close to a renewal ?

Obviously you will have to mention the water damage.
But some people do buy broken / water damaged stuff.
Might not get a lot of money but it could be better than throwing it in the bin
My phone got drowned in the bottom of bag with a leaking water bottle, similar thing, phone worked but the mic wasn't 100% and the center button did not work at all. Purchased a replacement 3 button membrane they call it off ebay for $25 from UK. The mic is built onto this membrane. Funnily enough button started to work the day before it arrived but I will still replace the membrane just to know the mic is 100% as sometimes it comes across scratchy on the other end.

I bought the flex cable keypad wich comes with the microphone. Just 10$ from HongKong. However, 3 weeks to arrive.
u could try drying ur circuit board in an ultrasonic dryer... should remove all the water from it...

Last time I flooded a phone (lake, beer, boat, he he), I used a food dehydrator. 24 hours in that gadget and all was well. Just last week my brother jumped into the water with his iPhone in the pocket. Same procedure and 24 hours later his phone lives.
My wife dropped her phone.....in the toilet.
I tried turning it on today, and it sits at a screen that has a picture of the phone pointing at a laptop. I tried running the Windows Phone Support Tool, and I get this:

maybe try a factory reset by using volume up+camera+ power button to boot..if not you can always try flashing one of the stock firmware available in these forums..assuming your hardware isn't toast these things will work

Tried a factory reset, as well as trying to flash the stock firmware on the phone. However, I end up at the same spot with the picture of the phone tethered to the laptop. I have a feeling it's a lost cause at this point. Thanks for the advice.

Quick questions:
1. Was the phone on when it was dropped?
2. Was the battery removed immediately?
3. How was it dried and for how long?
It could be worse - mine just took a magical trip through the washing machine in my pants pocket. :/ Anyone know of a good parts supplier that stocks the mainboard? That's the one component I can't find for sale, but I want to make sure I CAN get it before I take apart my other Samsung Focus to troubleshoot the broken part(s).

I dropped it also in water too, i tried t oturn it after few days, strange things happned too me!!! so decided to get a new phone.
I didn't through my jet, and after few months, I charged the phone, and test it found it working without problems
I believe was just a matter of when al lthe electronics inside the phone gets really dry

My Focus is VERY sensitive to any dampness at all. If it gets damp in my pocket (sweating, lawn sprinkler, etc.), it will ding constantly with the sound when you connect the USB cable to it. I have to take a hair dryer to the micro-USB port.
A method I heard, but have never tried, is to wrap the phone in a full sized thick bath towel and bind it closed (duct tape, bungee, whatever) and then put it in the clothes dryer on low heat for an hour.
Thanks for all the info. I will be trying it again tomorrow once I get my USB cable back. I know the cable for my Inspire will work on it as well but I forgot that at work today. Thanks again all.

no its not... Its a myth. The liquid evaporates unless you took it all apart and the rice actually touched the liquid and absorbed it. Taking the battery out and leaving the door off and placing the unit in front of a fan will do 1000 times more for the process than rice... Moving air is the perfect evaporator. Plus rice dust gunks up ports... Sorry to burst the experts bubble around here but facts are facts...
So I just dropped my beloved vibrant ok the toilet and need reassurance, anyone whos done it before, will it live? So far its working ok, random color spasms and headphone port sounded distorted for a second but stopped when I paused music. It hasnt happened in about 15 minutes and the phone fell about an hour ago and dryed for about 30 minutes. I ran it over with a bike before on accident and it still worked and I love this phone so hopefully it will survive. Anyway worst damage to happen to your phone and it still worked?

Before you put it in rice, might want to clean the ports and anything that you can access with distilled water. This will hopefully prevent corrosion from rusty, particle ridden toilet water.
I was at an Ace Hardware where they were selling, for five or ten bucks, a plastic bag with some dessicant for wet-phone rescue. Rice or any dessicant should work fine. I would make sure no rice dust gets into phone.
If you have any kind of blower or compressed air, blowing it out gently on no heat first might be a good idea. Also, I would first take phone somewhat apart, remove battery, sim, sdcard. Dry loose parts by hand, then blow out phone, especially all ports and contacts.
Some kind of tuner-cleaner might be an option if needed.
Thanks guys I took the whole phone apart yesterday and air dryed/ blew air in to dry it out and its working great. Only issue is the volume down rocker doesnt work 100% I have to press it a couple times to make it work. Any way to fix that?

unfortunately there isnt much anyone here can tell you. there are certain things you can do to get as much water out as possible like the rice trick, swabbing all ports, etc. but in the long run, theres really no way of telling if any water got in deep enough to go unnoticed/uncleanable, and actually reached a point where it could cause damage <--- and if thats the case, like Woodrube said, you may experience issues somewhere down the road, even long enough to the point when youve totally forgotten about dropping it in the toilet, and youll say "how come this started happening all of a sudden?"

I have had two RAZR M XT905, and it happened a few times on the current one (only a few months old), but luckily, the earlier ones happened when the headphones were plugged in, so I didn't loose it. However, the last time it happened it fell off somewhere and I have lost it. So, I called Motorola (live chat) and they said that it was an aesthetic issue, and therefore not covered by their warranty. As I was on the chat, I looked at the socket, and noticed that one of the contacts for the headphone is now visible and therefore would be easy for a short or static discharge to occur, thereby possibly damaging the sensitive electronics inside (as I told them). They then took it a little more serious. However, since I did not want to send my phone off for a few weeks for this minor issue, I asked if they could simply send me a replacement ring, and they said they should be able to organise this.
Tonight, it occurred to me I had my previous phone (which I broke the screen off and hence the 2nd one), so I thought I could simply take the ring off of that one and put on my current one. No surprise, the ring was missing on that one as well, that I hadn't noticed in the few days I had owned it.
Hello everyone,
I got this problem with my LG G2 that it fell in the water once, I directly put off the phone. (It was still intact after falling in water).
Later I turned it on but the screen did not show up. Sound works, Vibration works, TOUCH screen works (no graphical stuff) and even if I call my self with another phone the LG goes off, vibrates, plays the ringtone and everything.
I sent my phone to Dynafix which is the repair center, they said it's not available for warranty, because its water damage and they declared the phone as "Unrecoverable". Which I think is pretty weird. I have thought of repairing it myself by buying and new LCD and Digitalizer.

I have never done that though but with a good tutorial on YouTube and the right tools I should be able to do it. But before I take any action which may not work I want more info about this problem.

Don't waste your time or money on this. If it was completely immersed in water, it is in fact unrecoverable. The water might not have an effect on the device the first couple of hours, but after a short while it will corrode it's way trough the device, rendering it useless. The repair center won't touch it because they know that no matter what they do, there is a huge risk that the corrosion will come back. You're better off with a new device.

The phone in on the charger and on, Everyday I still hear sounds and such. The phone hasnt been in water more then 1 sec though. And afterwards I left it drying in dry rice for 1 week. I know i am a bit selfish but I think there could be a chance of making it work.
The phone comes with a subscription for 2 years and it's not even a year old ;/

Not exactly the same but a friend was skipping lessons at school when we were like 10 (10ish years ago) and using Gameboy Advance SP in the toilets... you can guess what happened... Any way i took it apart and left it in a closet for a few days, gave it back to him fully working after. So it's not necessarily un-fixable.

How fast until you took it apart? Also, did he remove the batteries quickly after water exposure? I'll bet that's not the case with the phone here...

Well yeah, I just turned it off got the back cover off but not got the battery out. and let it dry.
Is there any way to acces the phone's screen through my PC? The phone is rooted.
Fixed the phone!
I removed the main board from the phone and brushed the connections with a toothbrush. Re-assembled the phone and it worked!
The only money I spent is for a plastic opening tool and a philips screwdriver.
