I have a hard time using Google Now on my Note3 because I don't come from an English speaking area. For an example, telling my phone to call a random name from my Contacts obviously won't work because those names don't exist in English language and the phone won't recognize them.
I wanted to ask, is it possible to ADD custom voice commands somehow, so that I can properly use this feature?

I dont think there is a way to add custom words or commands. But you can change the language and I hope that would work.

I'm guessing this is an okay place to write this. Maybe there should be just an "Android General" area.
Anyway, I have two issues.
1. When I speak in a sentence for a text message, the first letter isn't capitalized. This annoys me as it is needless and shouldn't even happen with my "always capitalize a new sentence" function turned on.
2. In the voice input settings, I switched from US English to UK English, but it still puts down my words in American English where applicable. What is that about?
Bump? Also, can I report these issues to Google? Put them on the Google Code for Android? What can I do exactly? Are there solutions?
Uhh... help??
I don't really have a true answer to your question. But I just started using smart keyboard pro and when done talking it gives me a list of sentences to select based on what it thought u were trying to say. Basically saying that depending on keyboard used may determine if settings are handled properly. Try different keyboards

So is Voice handled by programs and not Android itself?
Voice is an external application that is referenced by many keyboards.
That being said, voice likely returns a simple string of text without capitalization, so that's what most keyboards are going to display. It probably won't help to switch keyboards unless they specifically account for the bug.
I think right now, you're pretty much out of luck unless someone has fixed it with a hack or a special keyboard.
Hi everyone,
Can someone help me change the default dialer and contacts app? Coming from the iOS land, I find this extreme "blackness" of the default dialer really ugly, and thus I'm desperately trying to get rid of it by using either Contacts+ or Go Contacts. The thing is that every time I make or receive a phone call, the phone defaults to the stock dialer. After some googling around, I couldn't find any definite answers as to whether this is possible.
Many suggested going to App Management, locate the Contacts app and press the "Clear Defaults" button (same for Phone app). Unfortunately that button for both apps is disabled for me.
Any suggestions? Has anyone managed to successfully use another dialer?
Thanks in advance!
You're confusing the dialer app with what you see in call, which is separate. You can change the in call graphics with a change of framework/systemui but it takes a bit of work. Swapping the dialer app for something like ExDialer or Go Dialer won't do anything to what you see once the call is taking place.

So essentially, all these dialer apps *have* to revert to the default "in-call" screen simply because they do not support their own? Is this an Android limitation one has to live with, or is there some sort of work around?
It's a limitation of Android. The look and behaviour in call is a fundamental part of the OS, rather than something that can be changed with an APK.

That explains why I couldn't find anything on that subject. Thanks a lot!
There's nothing stopping you using a custom rom though which may be different. At the moment you're seeing the touchwiz one. If you put stock android on there instead it'd be different, on HTC and Sony phones it'd be different again, etc. Nothing is limited on android, so long as you know enough to be able to edit it. Get root access, and get talking to some custom rom developers who may be able to give you a bit of an insight on how you'd do it. It's not impossible.
Hi guys. I'm new on this forum.
I've been trying out a number of different roms out there on my S4 until I found the one I like. FoxHound Diamond Dogs 3.4. With norwegian regional settings. Based on Android 4.3 I believe.
But I've discovered something weird while typing. Anywhere on the phone. While SMS messaging, typing URLs in the web browser, typing on facebook etc. The phone doesn't want me to type the letter combination "ae". Instead it replaces them with the letter "æ".
In norwegian we put an "-en" ending to a word sometimes. Pretty much like you in english would put a "the" in front of a word.
For example cola and colaen (the cola). My phone somehow interprets that as I want an "æ" letter. And it refuses to let me go back and correct it and it drives me nuts! Sofæn, colæn etc.
Is this some kind of feature in this ROM that can be deactivated somehow?
Some sort of typing assistant or something.
I installed the swiftkey keyboard to see if that fixed it but it didn't.
Any ideas?
Bump!
Bump!
I have the same problem! Using FoxHound 4.4, awesome rom, but the "ae" to "æ" is driving me crazy
Does anyone know how to fix this?
Thanks in advance!

Already tried another keyboard app, but still the same?
Already Tried to check the keyboard setting? Uncheck automatically replace?

Yes. Swiftkey is installed, and the problem is still there. Also checked the settings, cannot find anything that would explain the replacement. Weird..
Just got my M3 from China because I wanted to get an LTE version, which is not available in the US.
I have set language to English, and set time zone to Pacific, but the tablet still thinks it is in China. Websites that are multi-lingual show Chinese characters, when I try to create a Huawei Id it says "County/Region: China" at the top.
Any idea how to change this? Seems like a nice tablet so far, and the LTE is nice (Google Fi), but I am not sure I am going to take the time to learn Chinese just to use it.
Thanks!

I deleted or deactivated all Chinese applications. I manually installed Google Play. Installed its applications, including Google Chrome, keyboard, etc., and I only stayed at Hivoices Chinese characters. I have adjusted the default application to mine.
Thanks! I wound up doing the same thing. Was just hoping there was a way to tell the tablet where it really lives. Reminds me of the old DVD region days...
One related note, on HiVoice... I was playing around and got to the place where you can use your voice to wake up the tablet. It wants me to say something 3 times as my "wake up" word, but no matter what I try I cannot seem to get it to accept anything I say. It is telling me, in Chinese, what I should say -- and clearly I am not following directions well. Were you able to get the voice wake up to work, and if so - what was the trick?
Ditto re PlayStore, Google Launcher, Calender etc
If you change language to English US first, then option for USA should be available. Australia as country was available after changing language to English(UK) on my M3.

Hello guys, long story short.I had S6 active AT&T for long time, since its only for USA,there was no Lithuanian language,i was ok with that, but sometimes i missed my language because of some notifications with specific english words, that i dont know and etc.Now i bought S8 active and wonder if its possible to add more languages, especialy Lithuanian by custom rom or something like that,i am not so good in it,just know how to root,to use some more options and customize my phone. Is there some way to do it?thanks in advance
Don't know if you saw it but in language and input there is a option for all languages i don't know if you're is in it.
I am not stupid man,i see what is available, only like 12 languages, just interesting are they hidden or removed totaly by AT&T

Well **** I'm just trying to help no need to be an ass...
When i click the 3 Dot menu and all languages i got like 30 so i guess I'm cool. Good luck
Well, after more searching,i found MoreLocale2 app,its ment for Samsung Galaxy models,so tried on my rooted S5 active and it worked,so could try same on S8 active, but cant find root for my G892A AT&T model, anybody have some link to root topic exactly for my phone?cause i tried google for it,but lots of topics and download links are dead
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/development/root-partcyborgrom-galaxy-s8-active-t3747788
A lot of people had issues with these models. Either start around post 450 or 550 some one then posts a better working method that seems to work for more people
as more i read,as more i see it very messy
MoreLocale2 works as charm, just made Add my language,at my case Lithuanian, just typed Lt,and it understood what i mean, cause Lt is my country international shortcut, the only thing is that if you shut down phone,it comes back to English, but its not a problem,my language is in app,so just one push and its back, also i dont switch phone at all, only if battery dies.I made it without Root, followed this link https://en.miui.com/thread-4229083-1-1.html and gave permision for App to add language.
Also, some feedback about language-it didnt make my language 100%,lets say 95%,some folders in settings and developer options are still in English, but its not a problem, cause all other stuff that are used daily are ok,most important that all notifications come in my Language, thats only what i needed.I also used similar Permision thing,to add Mobile Data widget into top menu, cause it was annoying to go everytime to settings to turn it on.I hope it will be useful for someone else.
But one thing is annoying with this AT&T phone, that everytime i switch of Mobile Data,it shows notification on top screen, that its turned of,i cant clear it,no choise is working when i set Do not show notification, the only thing what i can do,is to set for delay of notification max for 2 hours, anybody has some thing to advice about it?
