Just got my M3 from China because I wanted to get an LTE version, which is not available in the US.
I have set language to English, and set time zone to Pacific, but the tablet still thinks it is in China. Websites that are multi-lingual show Chinese characters, when I try to create a Huawei Id it says "County/Region: China" at the top.
Any idea how to change this? Seems like a nice tablet so far, and the LTE is nice (Google Fi), but I am not sure I am going to take the time to learn Chinese just to use it.
Thanks!
Dave

I deleted or deactivated all Chinese applications. I manually installed Google Play. Installed its applications, including Google Chrome, keyboard, etc., and I only stayed at Hivoices Chinese characters. I have adjusted the default application to mine.
Thanks! I wound up doing the same thing. Was just hoping there was a way to tell the tablet where it really lives. Reminds me of the old DVD region days...
One related note, on HiVoice... I was playing around and got to the place where you can use your voice to wake up the tablet. It wants me to say something 3 times as my "wake up" word, but no matter what I try I cannot seem to get it to accept anything I say. It is telling me, in Chinese, what I should say -- and clearly I am not following directions well. Were you able to get the voice wake up to work, and if so - what was the trick?
Ditto re PlayStore, Google Launcher, Calender etc
If you change language to English US first, then option for USA should be available. Australia as country was available after changing language to English(UK) on my M3.

Sometimes when I'm on EVDO and I go to google for searching the Google Search button says "Google" but has Chinese characters next to it. If I search for something it returns all my results in Chinese. If I go back to the main search page and change it to "search in english" things appear as normally expected.
Is there some reason my phone or Google thinks I'm in China when in fact I'm actually in California? Visiting http://geotoolservehttp.com currently shows my IP out of Kansas, though I haven't checked this site when this is happening to me with the Chinese issue.
Anyone else experience this?
Yes - mine thinks im in spain when im in conecticut. Even setting my google account to english it didn't seem to take. I set my homepage to google.com/intl/en to get around it

I saw the same thing this morning... in the past, I've also had all of my results come back in french.
The fix for me was just to sign in to google.com with my Google account.

Yup got Germany. (I live in CO)
Had it happen to me also...in french.
I get an italian version every once in a while. Pretty annoying.
I had this happen on my Treo Pro 850 a few times and never found a solution. I haven't had it happen on my Hero yet, knock on wood.
Google is attempting a new cultural campaign whether you like it or not.
Happened to me in Spanish. Cleared the cache and it returned to normal.
No joke I had Elmer Fudd language turn up on Eris when I did a Google search(via the search button).
This used to happen to me a lot on my old winmo phone, I'm in Ohio but it thinks it needs to be in French. I got around this both ways I've already seen people say, google.com/intl/en or just sign in to google.
Anyways.. I just wanted to confirm that this isn't anything to do with the phone, but Google itself.
double posted somehow... sorry. ;(
Same is happening to me lol
Well I just launch the app-idea I always had been wondering for.
It's not very hot to have it now due to roaming costs but eventually can be great.
Listen, when on holiday I always am in a place where they don't speak my language. I'm from holland and understand german, englisch and a bit french, but going to greece, spain, or marocco and my options are lost.
The biggest problem is SIGNS. I just don't get em. And it is technically absolutedly possible to just grab your phone, picture it, and let it translate it.
heck: even common signs can get special explanations, since recognising a sign is not that hard.
Google has all the tools, but no-one put it together. (Goggles, translate, GPS for a good indication of probable language, etc)
If anyone starts devving at least make it free for me
I thought Goggles CAN do that already?
Edit: Just tried, it translates texts.
would the app Google Goggles do what you want?
take a picture and they return search results?
Don't forget the cost of roaming internet when using Google gogles.

I updated my firmware and now have no uk option on swype. Can anyone with a regular uk tab let me know if it was there before the update, as I never looked?
If so I may have to go back!
I'm at work now so can't check (I cycle to work so don't take the Tab until there's a fitting to mount it!) but I've noticed it keeps putting "z" in words that we spell with an "s" and it also keeps putting "76ers" instead of "cheers" (I'm from ooop north and use cheers a lot) and I cannot stop it from doing that, I don't even know what 76ers means or why it would be in my dictionary!
I've complained to swype about it but never had a reply (it also puts "god" a word I'd never, ever, need to use instead of "good")
Yes, you should have English UK as an option under language settings for swype.
(I was planning on including a screen shot but the xda app tells me it isn't a valid image format.)

Thanks for the speedy replies. I guess I either need to go back & lose the brower mobi/full site switch or just learn to live with it!
I'm guessing this is an okay place to write this. Maybe there should be just an "Android General" area.
Anyway, I have two issues.
1. When I speak in a sentence for a text message, the first letter isn't capitalized. This annoys me as it is needless and shouldn't even happen with my "always capitalize a new sentence" function turned on.
2. In the voice input settings, I switched from US English to UK English, but it still puts down my words in American English where applicable. What is that about?
Bump? Also, can I report these issues to Google? Put them on the Google Code for Android? What can I do exactly? Are there solutions?
Uhh... help??
I don't really have a true answer to your question. But I just started using smart keyboard pro and when done talking it gives me a list of sentences to select based on what it thought u were trying to say. Basically saying that depending on keyboard used may determine if settings are handled properly. Try different keyboards

So is Voice handled by programs and not Android itself?
Voice is an external application that is referenced by many keyboards.
That being said, voice likely returns a simple string of text without capitalization, so that's what most keyboards are going to display. It probably won't help to switch keyboards unless they specifically account for the bug.
I think right now, you're pretty much out of luck unless someone has fixed it with a hack or a special keyboard.
Hy
I just stumbled upon a problem. Some of the apps probably those that have multiple descriptions (in different languages) are in the wrong language (eg. Galaxy on Fire 2 is in German language).
The description is either in German, English, French or Russian which is odd because they are just fine on market.android.com and this didn't use to happen until I went on a trip to Croatia.
I don't know if that has anything to do with it but I have tried disabling GPS location, Wifi location (I cleared Market settings every time and closed it).
I've also used morelocale2 without any success.
Does anyone have any clue as to how to proceed?

I just bought the A500 last friday and also noticed this.
No custom rom or updates installed (no updates available for me in the Netherlands)
Any idea is welcome
The odd thing is that the languages are changing.
I just rechecked and my test subject (GOF2) is in Italian now.
have you got the location settings switched on? I have mine switched off and I am seeing these issues as well.
I have tried turning them off and every combination I could think of (wifi only, GPS only, both off, both on).
I get japanese every now & then, and i'm in Aus.
This seems to be a known problem with the new Market. I'm seeing the same thing on my Thunderbolt with 3.X Market(WP7 style)
Yup, me too
I'm seeing this as well. Only under Android 3 (it's fine on my N1 for example). Looks like languages shift, and are different for different people. I know that because I noticed it for my own app (which obviously worried me -- I thought I'd messed up somewhere), but an American user of my app (Photo Enhance Pro HD) sees Italian on her tablet, whereas I see Greek (and another language again on the free version of the app).
It looks to be recent? I can't see a reference to this problem before the 14th July, so hopefully it's a screw-up at the server end and can be fixed soon. If only contacting someone who could fix it wasn't so much a case of mentioning the problem on forums and hoping someone is listening...
