Power Button - Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My power button has recently become sticky. It takes a lot more force to use it then it does my volume buttons. I tested the wife's note 3 and hers feels like mine used to. Anyone else had this happen?

Is your power button hard to press?

It seems my power button is hard to press. There's not much of a click so I sometimes I don't know if I pressed it. I wonder I need a replacement.
How's the power button on your Nexus 4?

a little on the soft / mushy side. requires a focused press for sure. in the official bumper however there is a satisfying click.

I have the same...issue? It's not so much an issue as it is something I wish were a little different.

Can't tell you, Google still has my phone
By hard to press you mean hard to find?
Takes sometime to get used to the button position, you know.
Moved to Q&A
PGM Nexus will hopefully be updated to support the n4 soon; awesome application!
No click, hard to press and mushy and way to high on the side.
Volume is the same way.
Bad design, just like placing the speaker on the back of a completely flat surface, who the heck approves these...
Maybe a few of you have sort of a defective button? ( as in not working as intended )

Easy to press but I always seem to be pressing the volume rocker at the same time. I like the top power button location on my Sensation 4G better.

I have the same problem. Its not by any means AWFUL but there are many times I attempt to press it and it doesn't press.
My power button also doesn't feel as solid as the volume rocker.
I'm afraid it will become unresponsive later.
Ok so it seems I'm not the only one with a mushy power button. I don't have a definite click that's for sure.

Are you doing it simultaneously? Give it like a second or two before releasing

no point in installing useless apps that consume memory when its in the OS natively. its not that difficult to press two buttons at the same time and getting it right. once you do it once or twice, you'd get the hang of it and all is good.
either that or flash a custom rom and u can add the screenshot button on your long press power button menu.

It works for everyone. All you have to do is push them at the same time. Power + volume down. Hold for like three seconds. If it doesn't work hold for five seconds.

thanks guys, it is indeed tricky. especially doing it with my diztronic case.

It's very tricky. I said the same thing when I was doing it on my galaxy Nexus but got the hang of it.
Place your hand on the volume down and power button before pressing them and then hold them both at the same time until your phone makes a screen shot animation.
I will give Samsung this though the slide to screen shot is very intuitive on the touch wiz platform.

Oh so that's why. Since the new diztronics cover the buttons, it's probably not being pressed correctly.

Tell that to the people who had difficulties
It is tricky at the beginning but like I said over again and again, once you know how to do it. It's not tricky and is very easy to do. I understand depending what case they have on it may be trickier because the case covers the buttons that all of us overlooked

Try first powering off your phone. I had a little issue and i could not get the shutting down menu after several attempts, the phone restarted it self and after it was up, I was able to take screenshots without any difficulties.

[Q] Nexus 4 Power Button Sinking into Housing?

Hello guys,
After awhile of using the phone, I feel the power button sinking more and more into the housing. There is a lot less distance to click from now. From time to time (not often) pressing the power button does not wake the phone but that's rare. Anybody having the same issues? Should I RMA?
The N4's hardware buttons are pretty "thin", if that makes sense. If you're worried, you could try something like Screen Off & Lock (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.katecca.screenofflock&hl=en) to reduce the number of times you press the power button. I currently have a gesture set up in Apex Launcher to launch Screen Off & Lock, and it works nicely. I imagine you could do similar things with Tasker or GMD GestureControl.
I installed CM 10.1. It has option to wake the screen with the Volume Rocker.

Yeah I've noticed it on mine too.
It was very harder and more out when I got it. It'll probably stop sinking when it reaches a certain point.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Not used it for a while but I'm pretty sure widget locker lets wake the phone with the volume keys.
As someone else said it will stop dining after a certain point. I noticed the same thing on the gnex too

Power button problem?

Hi guys, I think something is wrong with my Nexus 4 power button. It usually took me many attempts to lock or unlock my device. Sometimes it recognizes my pressing as twice even I only press it once.
Is my button wearing? Anything I can do to resolve this beside a RMA?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Use one of those slide to unlock apps that you don't even need to touch the power button ,there's much talk of them around the nexus 4 thread .
EDIT: its called Touch Control
Sent from my Nexus 4
Go for Rma... or else use touch control.. Unlocking using volume button is another option...

Disabling the power button

Is there a way or an app that can disable the power button so it doesn't wake up the phone?

Yes I was thinking of just using the home button. And as for just not pressing it, that also works but I'm always pressing the button by accident since its so sensitive. But thanks for the advice
I have read you are able to disable the home button. I was just wondering if you could do the same with the power button.

With the power button I don't think so. I wouldn't even want to disable my power button never know what could happen

I agree. The volume and power buttons are very sensitive. I've had an Otterbox Defender case on since I bought the phone and never had a problem since the case makes those two buttons difficult to press. But I used the phone naked last weekend and I kept hitting those two buttons, especially when I was in landscape mode. Real PITA. Plus holding the phone was akin to holding a wet bar of soap. Needless to say, I put it back in the case.
In any event, if you disable the power button, what if the phone locks up or shuts down by mistake...how will you power it back on? Doesn't sound like a good idea to me.
You may want to consider looking for a slim case that covers the buttons, thus making them less sensitive to inadvertent activation.
