[Q] swipe palm screen catpure on custom rom - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, I've been on pac-rom for a while now, I really liked the palm swipe to take a screenshot on touchwiz just less strain on my physical buttons and much quicker, I was just wondering if there was anyway to get this back through an app or something or is it exclusive to touchwiz? i've already had a look at a few apps, some have overlay buttons which seems a bit cumbersome, some just give you the buttons again and give you editing options. Thanks

There's no way to get the homescreen to rotate unless you download launchers such as launcher pro or adw.

hmmm i guess ill have to go with another launcher, thanks!
the captive has the home screen rotation?
When I launch avatar it automatically rotates the screen and then stays that way to display the drm warning. Not really a fix, more of a bug you could take advantage of of you just want it rotated for games. As a real solution I would recommend launcher pro.

How does one benefit from swiping through their home screens in landscape mode?
Another thing that proves people like what they like. I hate my homescreen to rotate. I use LauncherPro and disabled it.
^ that could have been my post exactly.
To each his own, I guess. This really bothered me, so I started using Launcherpro and can't see myself going back...Touchwiz is pretty good, but coming from my G1 running CM6, it made me feel too locked down.

Technically speaking, TouchWiz changes much more than just the launcher and home screen.
Using a custom launcher only overwrites the TouchWiz launcher, it doesn't remove TouchWiz altogether.
Honestly I really like the fact that the home screen does not rotate. It was one thing that used to drive me a little bonkers with some of the G1 builds. Do I flip it left or do I flip it down.
Of course that was just my opinion of course.
Well, for me personally it would be nice if it rotated while I have it sitting on my desk dock. That would be about the only time I would want it to.
HOME screen Rotation
I am running froyo Jpm on the S and I am really missing the HOME screen rotation, Really. And was hoping and hoping with all my heart that someone from xda dev could come up with a home screen rotation fix.. If someone has please point me in the right direction and also one more thing Home Screen rotation Rocks!haha. And it should be there when you wont it.. So please help us home screen rotation Lovers. Thanks
Reason to have landscape.
I have a phone case that has a kickstand allowing for my phone to be set long ways (on its left hand side, so the cable is coming out of the left at the bottom of the phone) because when I stand it up and plug it in it jsut falls over all the time. (The USB cable that came with the phone is REALLY stiff, compared to the MTS3GSlide/Cliq/G1) So it would be really nice if it would go to landscape mode allowing for horizontal scrolling across screens ( I guess that the widgets would also have to be able to handle on the fly the switch betweens[ can that even work?] or be removed) And also have the status bar be across the top (like normal) while it sets sideways. I mean most of the games, video players etc already auto switch to landscape so you can have the width to handle the frames anyway. And so that when my phone is on its side (which is roughly 9 hrs/day minus lunch and smoke breaks) I can still read the stuff properly. I guess that the pulldown on the status bar would also have to work and so on. I wish I knew enough programming to make this happen myself. But that is the ONE biggest thing I miss the most about the G1, landscape homescreens. I'd seriously take that over a lag fix any day.

Can you disable the on screen buttons to use the full screen?

I want to get the Nexus 4 but only if I can disable those buttons as all the videos I see they turn invisible in full screen apps but you're left with a black bar instead of the full screen working. I'm worried that it is at a hardware level and you'll never be able to disable them so you can have the full use of the screen. It's such a big downer seeing the phone compared to other phones and how much space those buttons take.
Thanx.
Edit: I don't want it where I have to go into a menu to switch them on or off. I want them to hide themselves when I haven't got my finger in the area so I can quickly use them, otherwise it would get annoying having to keep manually turning them on and off.

Not built into Android? You'd have thought it would be a feature that would be one of the first to make it in.
In some roms you can make them smaller, but disabling doesn't make sense because you cannot control your phone without them.
Maybe a toggle in the powermenu(longpress power) would be a compromise.
You can use GMD Gesture control from the play store if you dont want to have to flash a ROM to do this. All you do is swipe with three fingers up from the bottom of the screen and BOOM they disappear. You can make your own gesture to do this too!
I use LMT Launcher on my Galaxy Nexus, my navbar is enabled like 95% of the time. Hopefully someone can come up with a mod to hide the navbar.

This is very easy to do. Not sure in JB 4.2, but in JB 4.1.2 all you have to do is remove these lines out of the build.prop:
launcher.force_enable_rotation=true
qemu.hw.mainkeys=0
Make sure to use something like LMT Launcher pie control to replace the on screen buttons. This is by far my favorite setup as I can not stand on-screen buttons taking up screen real estate.
Edit... Someone may want to confirm this on a stock rom as I'm not seeing this in AOKP.
Why does everyone feel the need to create a thread for one question? There is a help threa stickied for a reason, so i'd appreciate if questions were asked there, especially such general questions like this one. Please help us keep this forum cleaner guys.

Move home and back button?

Is there any option to move the home back and app switcher buttons? I have to stretch to reach them, is there anyway to move them so they are on the side like the menu button?
Agreed. Personally I'd like to see the controls fixed to the bottom left as they are for most other tablets. Would also much prefer the status icons switched to the bottom right, where there's much more screen space to make them bigger
I agree with you. I'm a Xoom user since it came out. This is one modification of the OS that I think is a step backwards.
It's because the Nexus 10 uses the "Phablet" UI instead of a Tablet UI. Wait a few weeks for some custom Roms to come out. Someone for sure will cook something up
Completely agree... keeping in the phablet mode may be ok for 7" devices, or even in portrait mode, but in landscape mode, those buttons are not easily reached with the thumb making it very awkward
Hi,
still nothing new with moving/positioning these buttons?
Root -> flash AOKP rom mr robinson -> go to settings -> rom control-> tablet ui -> choose tablet ui
(At least , this is what i do )
Find more settings there to move wathever you want
( write a pm to mr robinson if you want more customisation in the future )

I have gone to a full screen display and replaced the buttons using a combination of:
full!screen+ which removs the top and botton bars plus allows me access to notifications as a popup from one of the four screen corners
LMT Launcher's PIE to which I add the standard "home back and app switcher buttons ... etc". It can do so much more besides just that. PIE overlays any app by thumbing over a specific side of the display and auto disappears when not used. It even overlays during video playback without stopping the video.
Definitely read the documentation in the LMT Launcher post, as that and a little time trying the various options will really enhance your experience.
After using these two apps for more than a month I feel having the top and bottom bars are a waste of screen space.
I am running rooted Stock 4.2.2.
Yep there are lots of ROMs now that enable tablet UI for those who want the buttons on the left side. And some ROMs that do not have the option enabled have a tabletUI mod that can be flashed to it, like Sentinel 4.60

[Q] Recommend a 4.4 ROM with stock LG features? (e.g. knock on, etc)

Hi there,
Seeking some advice on a ROM. Hate the look of stock LG G2, just installed stock-like kitkat on my old GNex and saw the google experience launcher with transparent everything, DO WANT. However I'm afraid of losing some features of stock LG software. Maybe you guys can recommend some ROMs, or if it's best to stay stock to get all the features I want, recommend some mods that will give me all the ROM features I want?
Things I NEED
Knock On/ Knock Off (LG feature)
4.4 Stock "Look and Feel" (fonts, transparent bars all around, appearance of time and battery and notifications bar, black instead of white setting menu, etc, you get the picture)
Always listening on the home screen, possibly the lock-screen, pretty much anywhere I can have it all over the UI (as per 4.4, not LG)
Recent Apps button instead of a menu button (as per 4.4, not LG)
Open apps from the lockscreen with apps icons already visible when looking at lockscreen (not the style where you hold finger over lock icon to see a choice of apps in a circle, and then have to swipe a specific direction. I used to have that and didnt like it as much as I like LG stock way of actually showing icons without you touching anything, and you swipe the icons, not a lock towards the icons)
Circle battery type thing on status bar that shows percentage
Things I haven't tried/am not sure about but might want from stock LG software, and might not want to lose flashing to custom ROM
Better stock camera?
SmartShare from the gallery app? (says it uses wifi/bluetooth to stream content to other devices)
Beam/DNLA/I don't even remember what it's called or what app I found it in?
Quickremote
You tell me please? I'm sure there's a bunch of stuff I've yet to discover that I might want (are any of LG's apps e.g. notebook useful?)
Things that are cool but not really necessary
Themes and a ton of extra features -- used to use AOKP and they had a decent amount of extra feature, not too few like CM, not too many like other ROMs where my head just starts spinning from all the features
Other
I'd really prefer not to have to wipe all the time, CM's OTA update feature was awesssooome when I had CM on my GNex, but CM is a little feature-lite for me, I mean it was good though, that's just a minor complaint. But if there's something better fitting my criteria above I'll put up with having to wipe to flash updates of the same ROM in the future if its necessary. I just never understood why OEMs can push OTAs to people and never make them wipe, but for custom ROMs (updating new versions of same ROM) I have to re-set-up everything every time
A lot of this stuff has been addressed already. Most ROMs have knock on built in, but not knock off. The work around is downloading an app that turns the screen off, and using a gesture control in another app (such as Nova Launcher) to double tap the home screen to turn the screen off. Though personally, I just have screen off set to my nav ring so I can access it from any page I'm on.
There's a flashable install here on the forums some where for Quick Remote. Works fine on AOSP ROMs.
As for 4.4 stuff, I have no idea.

How did you do that? I nowhere find a setting to change anything in the navigation ring.

J Touch app for navigation rocks

Hey friends
I really don't like the navbar which is reducing the screen to much, so I decided to install J Touch app from playstore.
Loaded a nice looking home button jpeg picture from the web. Give the button a one hit back function, a long press home function and a swipe up for recents.
Please see attached pictures navigating is nice and I whish I could even eliminate the navbar on the homescreen

Keeping one icon appear on the screen all the time may cause burn in I'd be worried about that

No I don't think so. There is transparency setted, the button is popping if hitted and it is shifting up on home screen. You could be as scared or even more about a status bar burn in...
and look how much time is needed:
"Test Results
The iPhone X displayed burn-ins before the Galaxy Note 8 at 17 hours. However, it took 510 hours for the images to become permanently etched on its display which also marked the end of the test.
Compared to that, the Note 8 took 62 hours to show first signs of display burn-in, which is impressive. However, it had permanent marks way before the end of the test. The Galaxy S7 Edge showed signs of burn-in sooner than the iPhone X, however, it showed permanent burn-ins much later than the Note 8 and almost at iPhone X’s 510 hour mark."

Ok so would you recommend the app over navigation gesture? The gesture is not polished at the moment I'll give the app a go

I think so, you can also activate temporary move, which is helpful is s.th. is hided by the button. So you can move the button away for two seconds. You can hide button always in landscape, it is hiding when you are keyboard typing... it is perfect for 18:9 displays.
If navbar would have a one button control too, I wouldn't use J Touch.
You can also give it an iPhone look but ok I guess everybody is hating apple .
Edit: Ah ok you mean gesture. Sorry I didn't have this option until now.... don't know what is better
Looks like a nice app. I prefer LMT Launcher though as you can set it to do almost any task and only comes on the screen when you activate it so creates a really clean look with extra functionality.
Or you could try Gesture Control from Conena.. I'm very happy with the way the gestures work

Have you been able to use lmt with stock os? If so, I'd like to know the secret for getting rid of the nav bar
Not sure. Not really a fan of stock. From other forum members, it's possible to disable it with the joneplustool app. Both that and LMT require root.
I've been using Swipe Navigation. It even has long press functionality. Loving it so far.
That looks bat **** ugly, why don't you just download https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.suphi.swipenavigation&hl=en ?
In my kg g6 its eating battery like elephant ??
Xposed Edge anyone?
