No, not Htc One M8! I bought it some weeks ago and it's all scratches despite taking good care of the screen and metal body, not using anything abrasive to clean it. Virtually keeps it between lint and cotton.
I've had two out of the box with either scratches or chips so I doubt u did it. . .really bad on HTC behalf . . Poor quality control again

Hello all, I have had my phone since Nov, but since having it I have had a case on it from eBay, but have seen that paint is wearing off on the edge, anyone else have the same problem?

I've only had my phone a few days but I've been looking at cases on ebay after trolling through reviews... Is there any chance the case could have caused the paint to ware off like some kind of chemical reaction form bad materials ect in the case reacting? Or is the wear obviously in a place that's not protected by the case?
Any info on what case you have especially if you think you've found it's not a good case to protect my Desire HD is much appreciated!
Hey, I think its from the case just being on it because its the front next to the screen. It's one I got from eBay for like £2. It a gel case thing.

Without having specific awareness of that case, I can say that it is quite possible for this to happen if you think about the chemicals that are used in such products. This might be the difference of a better quality and hence expensive product vs a cheap Chinese replica (not mean to say that all China products are bad since all of them are manufactured there anyway).
After seeing what happened to my car's console when it came in contact with the liquid car aromatic (melted like butter), I am not excited at all from what you mention here.
Like I say above I think it more to do with the design rather than the chemical reaction as it is only on the corner. I will try get some pics up but will be hard

Not sure whether I should be nervous or not about trying a cheap arse grey TPU case I bought from ebay for around 2bux.
Well its up to you, I take my phone out of it a lot more than I should. I will get some pics as soon as I get the internet at home

There is a slight bit maybe 3mm long right on the bottom right edge of the screen where the aluminium ends and the plastic sim cover begins. Just looks like the paint has been eroded off.
Hopefully won't spread too far too soon.
I am looking to get a backup phone, and I feel the wildfire might be a good choice as a really cheap backup phone. but I have question. All my other phones had aluminum frames / battery covers ( HD2, Sensation ) What is the back cover of the Wildfire made of? Is it metal or just plastic?
Just plastic. No metal frames anywhere on the outer body. Its most apparent when you try removing the back cover. There will be a terrible plastic-grating-plastic noise.
It should hold up pretty well though, provided its not subject to too much abuse.
They are pretty tough my 2 yr old daughter has launched mine across the room plenty of times.?

its good enough for daily uses
Ya I have same openion. I droped my new wildfire from about 2 Mts. Got a little scratch on side of the front metal frame. Its made of aluminium and should have probably anodized/ painted but what ever may be the whole construction is nice.

I got my s3 in September and recently it fell out of my pocket (less than two feet from the ground) and the corner cracked all the way up the side. Right around where the back "button" is. It is hardly on the screen so its not really in the way, but its still very annoying to look at.
As I see it I have a few options
I can bring it into Telus and they can replace the entire screen which would cost me like $250 or so. Because I went to them and they said that they do not do glass only repairs.
I can try to replace the screen myself. I'm sure I would be able to do it, even though I have seen a few videos and it looks quite tedious and risky.
I could try calling Samsung and seeing if they would do anything about it. I have heard a story of someone calling and they did replace it. I imagine I would have to do some pouting and complain about how they said they're gorilla glass was phenomenal. Please let me know if this has worked for you.
And my last option would be leaving it the way it is and waiting for it to spread even more. (Not a fan of this one)
Also since I'm here, can anyone recommend a sturdy yet slim case for the s3? I'm not a huge fan of the otter box but I would like something fairly strong and not too expensive. Links would be great!
Thanks for any help you guys can give.

Well for that I'm sure they could say they never said it was shatter proof and it's still glass
I know, but a foot and a half? It should be able to withstand something so minor, this is "regular use". Maybe I should sue the company that makes my pants for having such tiny pockets.

I would be writing a nice polite letter to Samsung first a letter not email .

any insurance?

Drop anything made of glass onto a solid floor and there's an excellent chance it will break, especially on the corners. Good luck with getting it fixed but a £3 rubber boot from Amazon will protect all the corners but only add 2mm to the thickness.

You could replace the glass yourself.

Hello all, I just wanted to share this with everyone. I'm loving my black one, it's absolutely perfect! At least, that's what I thought until 30 minutes ago. As you can see in the title I've been having some problems with my black one. I know there already is a thread "black one not suitable for daily use", or something similar, but a lot of posts in that thread are being treated as trolls and this is a bIt different (no dents or chipping in the corners like the others, but on the back itself)
First of all, it attracts fingerprints VERY easily. Though this is a known problem and I knew this before actually receiving it (and it isn't such a big issue for me), it is worth mentioning (again) for people who still can't decide between silver and black. For me personally, this issue is completely worth it as black is BEAUTIFUL.
Second, a bigger issue, the black is coming off. I've had it for two days (just two!!!) and I can see silver. These are just dots, and they look just like dust. At first I even thought it was dust, but that was until I tried to clean it (first with my shirt, that didn't help so then I grabbed a moist cloth, which didn't work either so I then made the already moist cloth a bit wetter. No difference! hell, I even tried soap that's how desperate I am ). I will attach a photo, but it isn't very good quality because I made it using my One and a dirty mirror. Everything I didn't circle is dust, so you can see how much it looks like dust.
Now you're probably wondering what the hell I did with it, and the answer is completely nothing abnormal. I kept it in the official case when it was going in my pocket or when I was outside, and it got out of the case in it's full glory when at home and at work during breaks. I didn't drop it, it was in my pocket with nothing else (well, just the case), and I have been extremely careful with it, I didn't even let others hold it for more than a minute. What I'm gonna do now is look if it really really really isn't just dust with some more cleaning, then I'll look if a permanent marker hides it and either way I'll buy a skin for it (not a case, I already have one, and my pouch is still on its way, but a skin like a screen protector but for the back too) any suggestions for a good one?
Anyway, this is a warning for anyone considering/owning the back wish me luck with hiding the silver!

Permanent black marker has been mentioned elsewhere, that should do it.

Yea I read that too, but my concern is that it will be another color (slightly darker/lighter) and still be noticeable. Ah well, still better than silver dots on black but it still shouldn't happen IMO. I'm starting to think the case is the cause, because it now has 2 more of those dots after taking it out of the case again

Totally agree that it shouldn't happen, especially just taking it out of a case. I have decided not to have a case for the first time ever, if I get scratches then so be it, adds character to the phone

Wow! Ok I'll be honest at first I thought the issue is only happening on the speaker grill but seeing this. If anyone other than you posted some more issues like this then I am gonna be quite dissappointed on the anodization process of HTC now. Production issue is a good reason for having thin anodized layers but this thin is already way too bad.
I will still be giving HTC a benefit of the doubt here considering that you're the 1st one to post this. It could be a factory defect or there must be some specs of hard object in the case/pocket big enough to damage the back.
Do you have the double dip case? If so, the case's hard plastic inner section can scratch the phone when going on or coming off. Or, as the other user suggests, ensure you don't have dust ir sand particles in your case.
Currently interchangeably using HTC One, BBZ10 and Note 2
The double dip case is awful it gets sand and grit in it very easily. I have managed to scratch my silver version (couldn't wait for the black) on the front around the top of the speaker and several places on the back and side. I actually bought the case before I even had my phone that's how eager I was to protect it. Nothing makes your heart sink more than when you slide the case from your phone and you feel it grind on some grit. I now have it in an otterbox defender (this also has its own issues )

Now I know for sure that the official case was the problem. I haven't put it on anymore and there are no more of those silver dots appearing. I really advise not to buy that case!

Now that is a massive fail if the official case is causing it to scratch, I would contact HTC and see about a replacement and get a refund on the case, totally unacceptable.

Reaaon i never considered the black one. Same thing happened on 3 iphone 5's i had. Its a limitation of the material/process imho. Htc Apple doesnt matter black anodized aluminum is coming of easy
Hi,
I own a Note3 for about 6 months and the chrome plating around the bezel is all worn out and flaking already. I never dropped the phone and I am always very careful with my stuff. For example my Galaxy S with 4 years of use doesn't have a single scratch and the finishing is "as new"
I would like to know what's the opinion out there on the cosmetics quality, I think the phone is great but the hardware, at least in my unit, is not up to scratch.
Do Samsung take care of this? anyone seeing it can tell that the phone hasn't been misused
I have mine for almost 9 months now. The rim looks good as news as well as the whole body, no visible scratch. I use it as it is, without a case. I only have a glass screen protector. I do get mindful where I place my phone though.

Hand sanitizer can mess up stuff, has ethanol
As said, this is the first time I have problems with electroplated plastic. I'm usually very careful with my things. I don't use hand sanitizer nor I am a sweaty person.
Well, maybe I just got a lemon

Im not really agree on the OP of that link thread. Basically the OP only try to make the plate look great. Not really fix it.
