Rattle - Verizon Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just started noticing a rattle when my device shakes or I tap on it. I haven't noticed any problems except the annoyance. I didn't pay $650 for a baby rattle. Anyone else experience this?
Edit: mod please move to Q&A thread. My apologies.

So, after two conversations with Samsung Chat, a visit to Target Mobile, and a stop by the Samsung guys at Best Buy, I've learned we all have $650 Baby Rattles and it is by design.

info: Please wait for a Samsung Agent to respond.
info: You are now chatting with 'Nathan'. There will be a brief survey at the end of our chat to share feedback on my performance today.
info: Your Issue ID for this chat is LTK112560761186X
Nathan: Hi, thank you for contacting Samsung Technical Support. How may I help you today?
Aaron: Yes, I talked with an Annie earlier and after running through some troubleshooting steps recommended I go back to the place where I bought my S5 (SM-G900V) to have it exchanged because I'm within 30 days of purchase.
Aaron: It is making a rattle sound with regular usage.
Aaron: She had me remove the cover, battery, and then wipe cache.
Nathan: Hello Aaron.
Aaron: I took it to Target mobile and they only have a 14 exchange policy and would not honor Samsung's warranty and suggestion by Annie.
Nathan: Please let me know if you have the previous chat ID with you.
Aaron: I then went to a Samsung kiosk in my local Best Buy. They tried to contact Target Mobile after doing their testing but said they couldn't do anything to help.
Aaron: I do not.
Aaron: I asked for the transcript to be sent to me but I haven't received it.
Aaron: The samsung people at best buy asked me to contact you guys again for a replacement.
Nathan: I would like to inform you that we don't have the option to send the transcript to your mail. You would have the option to send the copy to you while filing the exit survey.
Aaron: Yes, I did the survey and entered my email address
Nathan: Please let me know the exact issue you are experiencing on the device.
Aaron: Their is a rattling noise with regular use.
Aaron: Sounds like something loose on the motherboard.
Aaron: The samsung people at best buy did everything they could do and were impressed it was something internal on the motherboard
Nathan: I understand.
Nathan: Let me check the details for you.
Aaron: ok
Nathan: I will try my best to assist you.
Aaron: Thanks.
Nathan: You're welcome.
Nathan: May I know if the phone is dropped or has any physical or liquid damages?
Aaron: None
Nathan: Thank you.
Nathan: May I place the chat on hold for 3 minutes, while I gather the information on your request?
Aaron: ok
Nathan: Thank you.
Nathan: Thank you for being on hold.
Aaron: No problem
Nathan: I have checked the details, there is no issue with the device. It is the Camera Lens sound which is designed in that way.
Aaron: It is designed to rattle?
Aaron: The store models don't have this sound that I've noticed. The samsung guys were surprised by the noise.
Nathan: It is the product designed. I have also checked in my device I'm also experiencing the same sound.
Aaron: I have $650 baby rattle?
Aaron: It is annoying. You just now noticed it on yours?
Nathan: Yes, I understand your concern.
Aaron: So, Samsung is saying this is a normal attribute of the design. Is this correct?
Nathan: You will get the sound when you shake the device.
Aaron: Just holding it taping on the screed is when I get the sound.
Aaron: So, this sound is on every S5, right?
Nathan: Yes, It is on every S5 device. I have checked in two of our devices.
Aaron: That's horrible.
Aaron: I'm not very happy about this.
Aaron: I guess Samsung isn't fixing it though.
Nathan: I understand your concern, we always appreciate customers who take their time out to give us their valuable feedback. I'll pass what you've said onto our management team.
Aaron: I can see the memes starting now about baby rattles. Samsung will love that.
Aaron: Thanks for the added tech specs not mentioned anywhere.
Aaron: Sorry, I know it isn't you personally.
Aaron: Thanks Nathan.
Nathan: I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.
Nathan: Can I help you with anything else?
Aaron: Nope.
Aaron: Have a great day.
Nathan: Thank you.

Yeah, I explained to the first Samsung person clearing the cache is pointless but I went along with it anyway. She then tried to get me to factory reset. I declined to do that.

I've heard the rattle is the disengaged auto focus sensor. Open your camera app and see if the rattle persists.

Yes, that does stop the rattling, but it is annoying. I mentioned the camera issue to the local Samsung guys at best buy but they hadn't heard of the issue.

Mine rattles when I hold it up to my ear. I did notice if you open the camera app it stops.

I've noticed this issue on all SGS5 that I've tried in stores except for only one.
It's very annoying cause it happens every time you tap the top half of the screen.

I asked if they could release the CORRECT code, and this is the response I got:
Thank you for your continuous interest on our product.
We would like to know about your issue.
You mean that you cann''t even build the source?
Please send full details of your problem for Kernel source. (ex: build error log, build Environment)
We will provide the response ASAP, but this week is our Thanksgiving Day.
so we get 4 days off to celebrate (2010/09/21 ~ 2010/09/24)
We ask for your understanding regarding this matter.

Dean Sir,
There is only one "n" in "can".
I am happy to hear that you are interested in my problem. My problem is I don't have what I want. Thanksgiving, whatever iteration of it you are having, is comprised of two parts, the second of which is "giving". With you giving me what I want now, you will in turn earn my thanks.
This should make everything okay.
Sincerely,
X

Perhaps we can get one of the more experienced people like Koush to type up a response to them? Anyone want to PM him?

Samsung is a Korean company, so I would assume it's Korean.
Don't bother Koush with that, he hasn't been focusing on getting the fascinate kernel to compile, you'll just be forcing him to hit the delete button one more time on his PM box.
Angel or myself will discuss this with hc, jt, noobnl, Lil, a few others and figure out how best to describe our problems to them.
Thanks for posting your response, as of now we hadn't hear anything back.
Im no longer allowed to read posts on my phone as i just skim. bad idea.

yes... i've been dealing with a lot of korean companies, but all the e-mail responses are not made by any sort of technical engineers or have at least the knowledge of providing the proper answers.
These ppl just take the keywords out of the question and simply replies with the best matching response from their 'pre-made' messages...
so... not really helpful unless you really call them or go up to them...

Guys this is just the canned response you get for emailing them. When we requested the source in the first place we got this, then another email that told us source was released. My inbox is full of the canned responses right now because of how many times I have contacted them to fix the source that they released. Just keep nagging them!

This Sickens Me - Selling Android Builds on eBay

ttp://cgi.ebay.com/HTC-HD2-Android-2-2-Evo-Operating-System-/330486566191?pt=Cell_Phones&hash=item4cf288cd2f
This is a disgrace. Anyone who exploits the hard work and unwaged development of Android/Linux on the Hd2 should know that you are only doing the community harm by discouraging devs to continue progress. You basically stole their knowledge and are hawking it off as yours. Disguisting.
This isn't the first time this had happened. Its hapoened like 5 other times thati know of. Yeah your right its messed up.
I wish there was a way to reply to his auction and scream "FRAUD!".. or give the seller negative feedback over and over again.
Damn... why didnt I think of doing that and making money... lol
Just kidding... Yeah the guy selling instructions is an asshole for sure
THUMBS DOWN!

I just filed a report against the item as being copyright infringement.
What an idiot, he got that picture from XDA too. I think its from mattc?
i've filed a report as well. What a low life scumbag. Wish we knew his handle on XDA so he can be banned for life.
he should send to death sentence!
ive reported it as well.
i think the best way to fix this is for everyone to file a simple report of violation of android GPL. and intellectual property.
if ebay gets enough reports of similar auctions, it will go on their banned list. unless you can prove you programmed it.
Damn why didn't I charge my friends for spending 3 hours on installing android onto their phones.
Report submitted.
Yah. I think everybody should report this..I just reported too!!!
This kind of person should be banned from xda forever!!!
Sometimes you learn more form the seller when you're in contact with him.
maybe his mailaddress is a part of his account on XDA so you'll be able to track him down.
Stay in contact as long as you can, that way you will gather more information.
This is indeed a dis-craze to all hard working developers, accept when the seller is one of the developers hare at XDA...
to all developers, don't stop because of some stupid ass, your work is really appreciated!

I don't know if it's a coincedence, but there's a user here at XDA that has the EXACT same name as the e-Bay seller.
Link to his profile is: mv1luv
I think it's time to get the mods onto this
Grtz,
Degake
p.s. The hometown of the XDA member (Bakersfield) is also the same at the e-Bay item location.... so I guess we got him

Time for the Mod's to get involved and sort this matter out, reported it to e-bay but they aren't really going to do anything which is sad, but the mods here can!
Unbelievable! Just out of curiosity I did a search for "HTC HD2 Android" on eBay and there are several other no-conscience sellers peddling instructions on how to install Android. Outrageous! One seller "alpleco" out of Long Island has sold over 600+ of these instructions at almost $2 each.
There's just no shame!

Even dumber question re:-> Thanks

I see folks asking or stating to be sure to 'Thank <whomever>'. I am pretty good about doing that, and have even received some myself. And I believe strongly in polite communications, supporting the community, and so forth.
I'm just curious, while it is certainly very good interaction to have, sometimes it feels like maybe there is more to receiving the thanks than just politeness.
I see more people saying something about thanking someone than telling rude people to tone it down.
Is there some other reason to press the Thanks button. Most 'Thanks award'. A penny for each Thanks, or something.

Except for the super secret awards they give each other at the annual dinners, it doesn't "do" anything...
OTOH, it's a fair indicator for someone reading the post (along with the title and number of posts) if the person is reliable, their information is likely to be good, etc. If someone with less than 10 thanks posts "OMG our phones are going to explode at 10 PM tonight", they're gonna get flamed. OTOH if a recognized developer with 5000+ thanks posts "there's a slight possibility that our phones have a battery issue that could cause the phone to explode at a certain time" then I'm going to take my phone out of my pocket, very slowly, and leave it in a bowl in the bathtub overnight

Thanks can be given for any reason the thanker feels, but generally it's used when somebody says something you agree with, when you share something with the forum, when you help someone with something, those are the most common one's.

Agreed.
I typically use it when someone has supplied an answer that is helpful.
I never do it if they start out by complaining about the questioner not having searched.
Some folks around here seem to go out of their way to beg for "thanks".

Right?! As if they can do anything with the thanks they acquire.
Do you like someone thanking you in person for helping them? It's the polite thing to do when a stranger goes out of their way and uses their own spare time to help you just because. What's the big deal with hitting the thanks button to show some appreciation? It's really not that hard.

I think it's the courteous thing to do, but after I help someone I don't tell them "make sure to tell me thanks". If they say it, cool, if not, no worries.

I am Dolcedavinci - Devs please dont close

Hello all. I was member dolce davinci until I asked to get my account closed. the reason I wanted it closed was to get away from xda.
My deal with mycomouterisjunk left me with a broken one s. HTC charged me to get blackrain1983s amaze fixed ( thankfully he is covering half the cost ). both deals are solved but I am left with a damage phone and my bank account in overdraft.
And the bummer of all, usps denied my insurance claim on the one s.
My reason of making this thread is to ask for donations. please, what ever you have will be appreciated . the LCD for the one s is $160, I am not asking for the whole thing but any little monies will help.
I still don't have a phone, I am using black rains amaze untill I ship it in a couple days. some members offered to donate phones but since i closed my account that didn't happen.
I know u guys might want proof that I am DOLCEDAVINCI and I will post some later, we still have a power outage in the DMV and I am on a phone.

Did I miss an election where you were appointed to be a spokesperson for all forum members?
Well here's how I see it:
You sent the Amaze to the guy and he said it was bricked. HTC did NOT honor the warranty meaning there was something wrong with it like water damage or dropped or something. Then the One S arrives to the other dude with a cracked screen. Both deals looked kinda shady. And it should not cost that much to fix an LCD/Digitizer/screen assembly at a 3rd party store, maybe at HTC it would be that, check around bro. Also, you said blackrain was going half on you with the Amaze right? so you're not out TOO much. I say sell the One S and buy a cheaper device, or trade it for a Sensation or something as-is if you can.
You then ask to have your account disabled because you want to steer clear of XDA, but create a NEW account to ask for donations for deals that looked shady that you're already getting half for on one? That is serious nuts dude.
"I want to stay away from this site, but changed my mind to come ask for donations because of my bad decisions"
That's just unsavory bro.
And yeah I might be coming off as heartless, but I did donate to jcash and I do help out when it seems warranted.
Just my opinion, you can think on it or chew it over or throw it away or whatever.

"Who gives a f***?" can actually mean that the person who said doesn't actually care and not necessarily implying that NO ONE cares, although that implication is also a valid interpretation, so the possibility exists he meant only to communicate (quite emphatically and bluntly might I add) that HE does not actually care and did not mean to infer that no one on the boards actually cares.
I am still battling it out with HTC. I had my card on file from when I wanted to get a replacement battery but that doesn't give them the right to charge me. everything went like it was supposed to be fixed free because they didn't even alert me through email but there is a hold in my account pending removal from HTC USA for 249.99.
after long aruing through email, black rain sent me $140 but out of that I still have to send the amaze to Jordan with express ( or else there will be no tracking ). I am not asking donations for HTC repair cost. I am trying to get to get rid of it . hopefully its an error because when I track my repair status it doesn't show any update.
I posted here because I can't see the market.

Just call HTC and ask if you're being charged or not, sounds like you're not even being charged.
With the shipping to Jordan, find out from blackrain if no tracking is ok, or work something out, maybe he'll help for shipping (since he agree to pay half the repair cost that may not even be charged).
It sounds like you can work this all out so you have a phone and everyone is happy without having to solicit donations here, the fact that you don't want to be on XDA but came back just to ask for donations looks bad too.
HTC wouldn't just charge you for ****s and giggles. I remember my sister broke my N1 and was hoping they would just replace it since they already had to replace the screen twice for faulty hardware. Well they decided I would have to pay for it and they sent me multiple emails and even a certified letter until I responded.
For legal reasons, they won't charge you without documentation of you agreeing to the costs and terms. They might put a HOLD, but they won't charge you. I went to a restaurant with my girlfriend once at a hotel I was not staying at and they put a hold for $100 on my account, but only ended up charging me the actual cost (something like $40-something).
You can just go to your bank and tell them you didn't authorize it. They will remove the hold while they investigate.
Problem solved.
Now can a mod please close this pathetic thread.

Warranty avoided? Help!

Hi everyone! Few days ago my S7 Edge felt down and hit the ground... Luckly, the display didn't break. However, it has two little marks. One is in the top right corner and another one beside the SIM's tray. I wonder if I have my warranty avoided... What do you think? Thank you! (I attach two photos)
