Weird Camera Lengthy Shot?? - Verizon Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So when trying to take a picture, sometimes it will do it instantly, other time it a blue ring with sort of ring around and say "keep your phone still" and takes like 6 seconds for a picture? It's on auto mode. Anyone know why this does this and when?

I noticed it also, I saw that it happens when a "twilight shot" icon shows up in the bottom, so my untested theory is that the auto mode is engaging some sort of night mode where it keeps the shutter open longer to capture darker images. If you turn off picture stabilization, then the delay goes away.

Ahh I was thinking it was the stabilization option, thanks!

Mine does this too, and I am not sure why. It seems to happen when the object I am trying to capture is moving, (5 year old daughter)

exactly. go into the settings when you open up the camera app, turn off picture stabilization. will work normal from there on.

How to disable the camera button?

For about a week or so now, My camera keeps popping up, and taking pictures without me knowing, or when I'm in the middle of something when the screen is on. I've look at countless threads on other phones and it seems to be successful for others, But I'm guessing this device isn't similar. Anyone have any clue on how to disable the camera button on the side?
I'm on 4.2 and sometimes my pocket can unlock trigger the camera from the lock screen. If that's the case, there's lock screen policy in the market.
Theres also button remapper somewhere on xda to disable the camera button. Can't search since I don't have my computer with me.

Thanks for the heads-up on lock screen policy. I always hated pulling out my phone to see the camera was on.

Messaging app zoomed in (solved)

Ok...im going crazy trying to figure this out...last night I went to go text someone and noticed it was zoomed in...like the threads/text was larger...I ignored it as I was in a rush and figured I accidently zoomed in somehow like a pinch to zoom feature...
However today I can figure out how to zoom out or zoom in and its driving me crazy...ive checked accessibility settings and its nothing there, cant find anything in the messaging settings, double tapping does nothing pinching does nothing...
im going crazy lol and starting to wonder if it really is zoomed in or if its just my mind playing tricks on me...

Reverse pinch. Finger spread?
There's an option in messages settings to change the text size with the volume rockers. See if that's checked and press volume down on the message. Should fix itself.

[Q] Camera lag

Every time I take a picture, it says "processing" for a second or two.
Is this normal?
Sent from my SM-N9005 using xda app-developers app
you have to turn flash auto or on and check your mode is automatic.
when you open the app you see right corner some settings. you can adjust there.
i had the same problem and solved like this. hope helps you too.
Anyone aware how to shut the shutter sound while clicking a picture ?

I had the same issue when I played with a display unit at an AT&T store.
Team Union ROM LT4 v7, LT3 Modem, Speedmod k5-5, Carrier: AT&T (US)
I do not have mine yet, but I did read elsewhere that you need to shut off the 'low light' and / or 'image stabilisation' (may be the same thing?) settings to speed it up. I have seen demos where the photo is almost instant, and you can take photos almost as fast as you can tap the screen.

I have the same problem. the shutter sound is here, even in vibrate or silent modus.
Thx for your help
In automatic mode with flash auto, the GN3 tries to take the best picture.
In low light environement, flash is not used and GN3 takes time to take the best shot hence the lag.
In bright daylight, with the same configuration, there's no lag.
1. On my rooted N900 there is no shutter sound when sound is set to "Mute".
2. I can confirm that the camera "processing" delay disappears with "smart stabilization" disabled.

when you launch the app, push menu button > settings > window opens
Click on the settings icon on the right tab > scroll down you will see flash setting.
Switch to auto or On.
Enjoy.

I tried all of these and nothing alieved the delayed "processing" after taking a shot. It also would not allow me to take burst shots. I finally tried turning off smart stabilization and that fixed the lag problem. I was able to take burst shots as well after I disabled it
You need to disable image stabilization. It comes turned on by default.

You are probably shooting in HDR mode instead of auto mode.
HDR needs processing

Camera, time out-time

If left untouched, the camera-app will shut down after approximately 30 seconds.
Very frustrating when waiting for the perfect opportunity to take a picture.
Is there any way to change this behavior?
(Except from taking pictures or changing focus by half pressing the camera button or such)

Mine stays open all the time. I just opened camera app and put it on the table for about 2 minutes and it stays open.
Maybe u use any powersaving apps / modes?
Also, which firmware do u use?
Camera app V 1.0 or camera app V 2.0?
You can try to clear data via settings>apps>all>camera and test again.

1. Nope, no stamina mode or such
2. 32.0.A.6.200 (latest available stock)
3. Both? "Camera extension" is version 1.0 and "Camera common" is version 2.0
4. I have two, see 3 above, cleared both
Still the same after clearing data and rebooting.

Could u upload a screen recording of what exactly is happening?
And does it happen in all camera modes? (8MP, 23MP, 20MP, video, manual, superior auto, and AR as well?)
It happens if you go to camera app trough lockscreen shortcut or hardware button form stand-by, but if you unlock device, then go to camera app in normal way touching the icon from homescreen or in drawer then it won't shut down it self.

I think that is just a "feature" to prevent prolonged activation of camera if by misstake pressing the hardware shutter button or if screen goes on by some reason like sms and contact with skin through thin jeans pockets could pull around lockscreen buttons.

Oh then I misunderstood you. I thought u where talking about unlocking and then opening camera app.
I can confirm the issue now lol, but I think this is to prevent the camera staying open in case it accidentally opened.

That seems correct. Opening the app as you said made the Camera stay open til I close it manually.
I´ve never opened the camera that way before since I hava a physical button for it.

That´s probably why.
I would still like to change the behavior but I guess that´s not something done easily. (Or does anyone know a way?)

Auto rotate issue

When I open pictures via the camera app sometimes the pics are upside down depending on how I decided to hold the camera for that particular picture.
Naturally you turn the phone around so it's the right way up but the picture rotates when you do that so it's upside down again.
Yes auto rotate is turned off.
Edit: you can reproduce this yourself if you open a picture via the camera app. Issue does not occur if you open the picture manually from the dcim folder
