G2 802 twrp won't install - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I've rooted my phone but I cannot get twrp to work, I tried it through flashify with version 2.7.0 and on reboot it comes up with a security error message then I need to reboot and it'll start as normal
I downloaded ota update yesterday and it rooted fine after the update but refueses to install twrp, I also can't boot into stock recovery at all - I read update from LG has stopped this from working.
I rooted my HTC one m7 before which was a lot more difficult but I can't seem to get a custom recovery going on the LG g2 802 UK version
Edit: I Got into standard recovery for the hard reset using volume up and down, I've just read the new kit Kat update will not allow custom recovery is this correct ? So now I'm rooted thanks to chainfire, I'd still like custom recovery though

Why don't you use AutoRec ?

What's that ? I had cwm on my HTC one m7.
I've followed all the online instructions to install twrp but my phone doesn't like it and it throughs up a small error but luckily didn't harm the phone. It appears that after the update it won't let me install any recovery. I'm worried if I try cwm on the g2 it'll brick it or I'll need to hard reset
Edit : I read up about autorec, so is it a case that the new kit Kat update won't let me install a custom recovery ? If so I'm in no rush and can wait for some clever dev to fix this

After you've installed the rom it is 'safe' to install autorec apk on it , and you'll have custom recovery .

It wasn't a custom Rom it was the ota uodate, is autorec just like twrp? I tried using twrp and flashify with no success .
To be honest I like the new kit Kat but I like custom recovery, when I rooted it actually booted into what looked like a custom recovery

AutoRec will just install twrp to your device. Read through posts for more informations.

Thanks, I'll read more into it.
Rooting this phone was simple, just annoying the custom recover hasn't been so simple.
Do yous recommend sticking with the new kk Rom or is there something better out
Edit: thanks 007, autorec worked perfectly and surprisingly easy compared my past devices .
Thanks again for taking the time to reply

answering is the purpose of the forum m8 :highfive:

I might try cyanogenMod, I really like this knew knock password thing with the new update though, CyanogenMod seems the most popular so it must be best

Yes use the new IOROOT15 to root the device. But I have been unsuccessful in flashing any roms, however I did get twrp to work with FreeGee app in the android market.
I appreciate your help very much, thank you

What version of twrp? Sounds like you may need to update.

I've been unsuccessful in getting any roms to work. I tried 4.2.2 rom and got lg screen then black, had to restore nand backup from twrp recovery but it was hellish to get into, had to do the hold vol+pwr precisely, almost gave up. So, reverted to a backup just fine.
Next tried to loki_flash recovery 2.6.3.1 (then was going to do them in order-2.6.3.2>2.6.3.3 [have not tried going directly to 2.6.3.3) and was hit with an unsupported aboot error (device mismatch).
So now i'm going to try and use flash tool to revert back to 11A, root, install twrp (I hope this is possible and I don't brick my phone [i'm new to all of this])
Anyone tell me if this is an acceptable option to proceed? Thank's in advance.
Acceptable. KDZ to 11A.
Just wanted to post I was successful using lg flash tool to revert to 11A, rooted, freegee twrp, flashed 2.6.3.3, flashed OSE ROM. Everything is well ATM!

[Help] Recovery is gone after update

Hi folks, I seek the advice of any one who could help me with issue. To give you a bit of background information, I have a D802 version which is rooted with CloudyStock 1.1, android 4.4.2 KK.
Yesterday I tried to update the version of Philz recovery that I had which has never been a problem before. I downloaded the latest version from the dedicated page here and went into the recovery to install the zip.
Whilst the zip was extracted without issue there was an error regarding "lokifying" the boot loader. I turned the phone off and tried to get in the recovery again but this time I had the error "secure booting: boot certification verify".
I never had any problem before, I don't know why the latest version of the recovery would create more problem that the old one.
The thing is that the phone works fine, it boots and runs without issue, I just can't get into recovery mode. Also the download mode works.
I'm sure they must be a way to get the recovery back. I tried to flash CMW with Rom Manager without success.
If anyone knows, I would appreciate the help greatly.
Cheers
considering kitkat has no root yet, getting a recovery on it is going to be difficult.
you will need a via zip flashable distro of kitkat. Which if you search you can make yourself. It was on xda portal some time ago.
That way I think root\recovery is maintained.

Thank you for your answer Bachera. I am not sure I understand what you mean by "via zip flashable distro of kitkat."
Plus my kitkat version of android is rooted, why would you think kitkat has no root yet?

I encountered something similar on my phone. However, i was on 4.2.2 but this worked for me. Give it a shot, it might work for you too
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2500441
Good luck
Try Flashify from the Play store to flash a working recovery for your phone. I had the same issue with philz latest version. I had to use an older version of philz to get it to work on my phone.

Yeah I misread, I thought you went to a official kitkat. Only way to get root on kitkat is if lucky its maintained with a ota update. or a special made kitkat, thats what I mean with special distribution (distro) one via recovery flashable.
kitkat rooting directly at the moment of writing is not possible due to lg bootloader.

Thank you all for the help and suggestions. I tried flashify and I did not work.
However freegee worked very well and managed to go back to CMW.
All functional now!
Thanks

[Q] Recovery boot error

I used FreeGee to try to install a custom recovery after root. First TWRP, stuck at performing action. Then CWM. Then the older CWM. Always stuck at performing action. The old CWM worked. Reboot to recovery and get security boot error. Looked around on forums and found a CWM batch install that everyone says works for them. Still recovery boot error. Anyone know what's up? I'm on AT&T D800. Rooted by ioroot25
Also RomManager says I have both recoveries installed. Thinking this might be the issue. How do I delete one or both and get on the right track?
I think I have the same problem. Could u solve the problem?

Safest way is to go back to stock 4.2.2 first, then root with IOroot then install recovery.lok

Thanks again for quick help however I have checked the downgrade process and its too long plus I have to download stock 4.2.2 firmware which is 1GB plus in size..
So is there no easy method to install recovery on already rooted stock 4.4.2 firmware?

No, no easy one, and some might even say none at all, but you can read the rooting thread where they discuss recovery as well http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2448887

Question: Flashify is able to successfully install a recovery ?

Flashify offers the possibility to download and then install one of these three recovery: TWRP, CWM and Philz.
Flashify allows backup of kernel and recovery, boasting the ability to restore the previous state in case of backup.
Those who have already used Flashify, may confirm the correct operation?
---
I have another question: is known (except error, or novelty unknown to me) that on KK to install a recovery different from that stock is need to downgrade the bootloader. Flashify, also deals this?
use autorec, it works 100%

Flashify does work and is the easiest way to flash a recovery.. if your on jellybean.
If your on kitkat though the loki exploit doesn't work and you have to use the autorec app which downgrades the bootloader for you.
Just be aware that knock code will be lost after you use it, because it also changes the kernel so your phone can boot back up. To get it back you have to flash a custom kernel like cloudy or dori.

[Q] Stock D802 20h CM12 flash advice

Hello all,
I have a stock 4.4.2 20h d802 that I plan to reinstall with cm12 as soon as m1 is released.
I've read a kazillion threads here and thought I had everything covered but the more I read more variations I can see.
I would prefer a PC free solution.
20h blocks towelroot so I guess I have to use stump root instead.
I have the following plan. Any advice or anything missing in here? I do not want to brick my g2
1) root with stumproot 1.2 apk
2) install autorec apk to automatically downgrade boot loader and install old twrp
3) upgrade twrp to 2.8.3 with zip file from recovery
4) erase cache from recovery
5) flash cm12 from recovery
But now I am reading stuff about baseband flashes and that lollipop needs jellybean stuff. So am I missing something our am I good to go?
When I flash lg official rom I have to choose the specific 32gb version. Will this be okay with generic cm12?
Thanks for any help!
Stefan

Sorry, but what somebody tells you now, might not apply at the m1 time. Or might have better ways. Might be a long wait as well.
Just saying that you will need to ask this again when the M1 comes. Right now you can only ask how to flash it now.
Thanks for the the reply.
I thought m1 is just a few weeks away so figured I'd start with the rest of the process already so that rooting, autorec and twrp are in place.
But for arguments sake, let's say I want to flash the current official d802 nightly. Would these steps suffice? Do I need to worry about Loki.sh a well?

Well to tell you the truth I do not remember how I rooted my device. Was really long ago... and what applies to the 20h.
I know at some point I used autorec.
And now I have the 2831 twrp.
What i can tell you though, that wiping cache won't be enough when flashing cm.
IIRC you have to make a clean install when coming from stock rom. So 4th step has to be about that, not just cache.
Thanks. I will make sure to wipe system as well then.
So autorec will leave me with an old twrp I am reading. I need to update this for cm12 I understand.
What exactly is the difference between Loki twrp 2.8.x and bump 2.8.x? The one I got from the twrp site doesn't have either in the file name. A xda guide said Loki trwp is needed and rootjunky on YouTube said not to use Loki twrp but bump twrp.
Now I am confused
Stefan.
