Is it just me or does this phone fly on ART. My nexus 5 didn't seem so big of a difference. Its like night and day on my phone. Of course it took up 700mb of storage but I'm loving it!

It is great in the beginning but it starts lagging after two to three days of usage
I think you did talk about Running ART in your moto x so far. But i want to know it how it's possible to fly ART on my Moto X..?

Actually, what he said was "My Moto X fly's on ART" which I can only take to mean he has a fly on his Moto X, which either is "on ART" or possesses "on ART."
Myself, Being that I am ART, can confirm that I am not a fly, but am on a Moto X
My name is art and I like to fly.

Lol!
BTW ART includes a dalvik compatibility feature, or so I presume. As mine always boots with, a persistent, "android is upgrading" for a few apps. The count goes down as I uninstall some apps.

I'm not sure if this is where I would post this. But does anyone know if it would be possible to port the moto x lock screen to the n4? i myself just got the Nexus and was asking same question.
Found very nice solution - NiLS Notifications Lock Screen in Google Play.
try it out, worked well for me:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.roymam.android.notificationswidget&hl=en
The only downside of using such application that I found is that it eats up more battery...and there's no way to fix that because nexus 4 doesn't have an amoled screen thus your whole screen lights up rather than just a portion of the screen where the icon is...so you might wanna take that in consideration...but its the closest thing to moto x loxkscreen

I wasn't very impressed with the Note 3's battery life at first, then I went into Settings>Application Manager and disabled a whole bunch of bloatware. Also went into each app and turned off any background update and location service if we don't need it. You can do this without root. Just take a look on this board and you'll see someone has compiled a list of apps that you can disable.
The phone now runs cooler, and yesterday, we had 14h usage and 6.5 hours display on time (auto brightness). Very impressive in my book.

Turn off all the Samsung features when you're not using them like Smart Stay and Air Gesture. The sensors are always on in certain apps when you have them enabled. Turning them on and off is easily accessible via the notification toggles. But it will only slightly help, your phone should be performing better than that even with those features running. Try a factory reset if it is safe to do with the root method.

yup. was recommended that app on the s4, great app
Download the app Wakelock Detector from the Play Store.
Open it for the first time right after you unplug your phone
After some deep sleep occurs for awhile, open Wakelock Detector and select the icon in the top right to select "Wakeup Triggers"
This will show you which app waked the device when it was trying to sleep(=screen off) and how many times it waked it. Figuring out Google wakelocks will probably help you the most unless you have some poorly written or rogue app
A good start would be to remove ALL google apps that you don't use, and turn off google ads as well as notifications and scheduled checks within say...Play Store and Youtube and Gmail

I essentially hibernate everything except system apps and widgets, just to be safe. You would also not hibernate apps that you want background notifications from. I also use the donate version, which allows me take advantage of GCM. Which, for apps that use GCM, allows me to hibernate those apps and still receive notifications.
Hope that helps =]
My favorite app is the Snapdragon BatteryGuru. I love it! That will monitor usage and show you which programs are battery hogs and will learn your behaviors with your phone. Only works with the Snapdragon Processor phones as well.

Why isn't possible to enable it? What's the point of getting KitKat without option to enable it?
On devices such as the nexus 5 it is still only available through the developer options and to be quite honest from my own experience (ex nexus 5 owner) I didn't notice a blind bit of difference between ART and Dalvik. In my limited knowledge I believe apps and such need to be optimised to benefit from using ART and very few are at this time. What exactly do you think you are missing out on?

The N5 is already godamned smooth thats why both Dalvik and ART dont show much difference. For lower end phones, ART showed much improved performances like opening applications
Sent from my SM-N9005 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I think that ART will fix some situations in which this phone (or any Android) isn't that good. For example, when I try to pitch to zoom very fast when I'm browsing, it isn't smooth at all and it's quite laggy. But just that first second (or less), later is everything smooth. I think it's because of the Dalvik's JIT anf that ART will fix that
How is G3 performing with ART? Any cons, incompatibility issues etc. Please share your thoughts and experiences here.

let me ask, can we switch back and forth between dalvik and art without any consequences? especially when we cannot know whether or not the switch could make some apps stop running.

Ive switched back and forth and its fine.
I made the switch this morning. I'll update a bit later when I've had some time with the device. I'm using Nova which changes how the device feels from stock anyway but I'll be keen to see if there is any improvement in app switching.

I haven't had any issues with ART and compatibility so far. My phone does get a lot of force closes on XDA's app whether I use dalvik or art it happens 10 times a day. ART sends slightly faster to me but not a huge jump like it's supposed to be.
Sent from my LG-F400S using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Little update after all day with art. Noticeable more lags- lg ui, chrome, internet, youtube. In my opinion phone much slower, battery drain much faster, compatibility- all LG apps full compatible ie camera, IR remote.
I'm back on Dalvik
I'm using art and so far it's working great. Launcher feels a bit smoother and apps open a tiny bit faster.
Both negative and positive opinions on same... confused ?

I read that Xposed doesn't work at all on ART
Barclaycard and Blinkbox Music don't work on ART in fact Blinkbox doesn't even work on Dalvik either.
Xposed doesn't work on ART yet. A few other apps won't either but that will change over the coming months seen as android L will be ART only.
Sent from my LG-D855 using Tapatalk
In theory, ART should be smoother and faster, and battery life should be better.
But alot of apps, especially mod app doesn't support ART. I suggest keeping it on Dalvik until the community/google makes the switch.

Exactly; ART is the future of Android.
According to the article on PhoneArena (link given in first post) apart from Nexus, only the KK devices (4.4.0 and newer) having ART option natively in its firmware (2014 devices like S5, M8, Z2 and G3 as well) are to support ART, and Android L in this case, if I didn't get it wrong.

L is supposed to be ART by default.
Curious, have it ever occurred that enabling art actually make the battery life worse?

There's no reason why it would. ART compiles the dalvik byte code on first run of the Rom whilst dalvik does it every time you start an app. To convert it to the machine code uses CPU cycles and therefore more battery and dalvik does this every time you open an app.
The only thing it does is use more storage space as the pre compiled byte code has to sit on the device.

The only way it will make battery life worse is if a core app doesn't work properly with ART and therefore puts more of a strain on the system as it keeps trying to work.
However this would usually give an error message that we can all see to show its not working properly.
That being said, today is my first full day on ART and I have had terrible battery life, but I do not think (yet) that ART is to blame.

I wouldnt say its useless but yea, it will kill your battery, why would anyone want it? pressing power button to turn on display, see what notification you have and then turn it off is that much more time consuming? at least for me personal, its not a good trade-off
Don't think it'll do wonders on a LCD display, OLED sure, but on LCD it's going to drain the battery much faster. I've purchased DynamicNotification premium features it does most of the things that Motorola's official app can.
Apk doesn't seem to work . shows up in settings but nothing beyond that
