Hi every place I connect to with wifi I never get a stable connection the wifi connects when sat close or next to the hub and as soon as I go away about 1 metre I lose the connection or it is very poor . Could this be a issue with the modem on the phone or is there a menu to get it boosted in any way . I'm on 4.2.2. Rooted Mdc Mf9
Also I would like to know that if I use the temporary unroot on superuser and then update the ota system update on the phone will this work ? To get the latest update .
Such a fantastic response I am so overwhelmed with the amount of help and feedback really appreciate all the help and advice .......

Sorry everyone is not responding to you immediately. They must have forgotten that they're here to answer your questions.
You say you're on MDC with MF 9. I'm just guessing MDC is your baseband NM9 night is the ROM.
Are you by chance on a different carrier?
If you really want the latest your best bet is Odin NAE tar.
Or at least update the modem to nae. Check the development section for the firmware for that.

hi thanks for the reply i am currently in the uk not in the states and my provider is EE and the phone is unlocked to accept ant sim and rooted, baseband is MDC and the rom I believe is MF9, as in my previous post its the wifi issues that are causing the problem here and also constant drop out of signal so would you recommend that i move over to NAE also will i lose root ??

If you just update the Modem/Firmware you won't lose root but I can't say for sure if you'll have carrier issues.
Have you tried updating your PRL?
Sorry what is PRL.?

Preferred Roaming List.
Settings>System Updates>Update PRL
But really, you might need to spend a lot more time reading through the threads to get a handle on how your phone works and what and how to do things. [like the above mentioned updating modem/firmwares]. OR you'll likely kill your device in one way or another.

Hi there, new to the forums posting but I read here constantly. I have an sm-900w8 note from Telus in Canada. I was running a custom rom before and decided I wanted to go back to stock before the Kitkat release. Anyway, I flashed the rom from sammobile.com that was for my phone (the link said it was for telus and the file even ends in TLS). So I flash it using odin and everything is perfect, the phone reboots and odin is finished. After that I decided I wanted to clear all my data and apps off the phone as well so I did a factory reset. The next time I turn the phone on everything is working (wifi gps ect) but I can't get on the network and it says I don't have a valid SIM. Also I notice the app packages from telus are not the correct ones and one of them is labelled Bell. So I am guessing the site has the bell firmware for telus as well? This doesn't matter to me but I do need my network running. Do you think it would just be a modem problem? Any information would be GREATLY appreciated guys!

The first and most important question: Do you have a backup of your EFS folder?
If so, you'll be happy. If not, prepare for the worst case scenario.

Seems you have installed a carrier FW on your device and it has SIM LOCKED it. try flashing another.
EDIT: @donalgodon - it's only really EFS when it boot loops and shows Android process not responding etc :good:

Well, that's not exactly accurate. The phone can boot with a corrupted EFS, but you will get no network access (and no IMEI number.)
It's happened to me, so I know it's possible. It's a common symptom of the OP's issues on Samsung devices.

Yeah I am sure I'm not in dire straights yet and lucily I have my backup phone to use for now. I am wondering though, sammobile is the most legit source for stock firmware around, do you guys have any suggestions? Or can I possibly even try just flashing a new modem through odin? (I have never done this but seems easy enough)

True, however, OP states that it was Telus FW that was downloaded and flashed...but it's showing BELL.settings, So the probability of it being EFS is low, it's sim locked the device via the BELL firmware more than likely. Reflashing the correct or unbranded firmware will indeed fix it

Well Sammobile isn't immune to mistakes, but it's rare it happens, they're genuine enough.. You could try the modem, first thing I'd do is test the back up and see if it's the downloaded ROM that has cause the issue.
And yes, you can flash the modem via Odin.

Hello,
I have a sprint Samsung galaxy s4 L720, unrooted on stock 4.3 baseband version L720VPUAMDC, the problem is that now it shows baseband, software version and IMEI as unknown and also it has an X up in the coverage bars so im unable to make or receive calls. I've never tried to root it or to change it's software. also on few occasions the info about IMEI and baseband comes back and I can make calls again but it just goes back to unknown after a while. also I've tried to reinstall the software and made several factory resets. I just don't know what can I do anymore.
help will be appreciated
thanks.

Really an unrooted MDC firmware?!
You haven't been getting update notices for months and months?
How long have you had the phone?
Was/is it flashed to another carrier?
How did you 're-install' the software? PC Odin? What version of Odin?

I had the same problem. To fix it I just reflash the original rom that it has with Odin. Ex.: Mine is NAE 4.4.2, so I flashed that with Odin PC.

*I have like 4 months with the phone.
*Yeah it is flashed to another carrier, I'm in a foreign country. it worked smoothly the first 2 months and a half.

The problem is that it had the issue before they reinstalled the software they just couldn't fix it and they didn't even charge me, so I don't believe it's their fault. also I noticed that I have baseband version L720PUAMDC and Build number JSS.15.L720VPUEMK2. shouldn't these 2 be the same?

No they don't have to.
What they probably did is keep the baseband at MDC because that (or MDL) is needed for doing SIM/Carrier unlock and flashing. And they updated the ROM to a MK2 build.
Obviously they screwed the pooch somewhere.
Your best bet is reading through the few SIM unlock posts here in the forum (there are already a few and have dozens if not hundres of posts!). And using google to maybe look into your specific country/region/carrier flashing options.
Uh oh...

If you update everything via MK2 you'll get everything back...except I'm pretty sure you'll lose the unlock, unless you know how to bring your baseband back to MDC...pretty straight forward, just Odin the modem.
So basically:
1) Odin MK2 full
2) Odin MDC modem
You should have your baseband back and thus everything restored.
This will not affect your 0011 menu edits.
In worst case scenario I will do this pro bono...you just take care of the shipping fees, but you should honestly try, at the very least, the above 2 steps.
before you do anything extreme, go to mobile network settings and set your cdma subscription to nv.
hi
you can repair via z3x box with samsung 16.7
its working very good i already repair alot of samsung l720
(1) flash the phone with original firmware
(2) root your phone with cft auto root file
(3) repair your imei with z3x 16.7
thanks
Sorry I'm a noon, don't do all those font sizes and colours and pictures aha but basically... I've been on CyanogenMod for about a year now and have never had WiFi issues. Been using cm12 nightlies for most of this year with no problem however, after updating my nightly the past two days I've been experiencing WiFi Drops happening every min and a half or so. So annoying. I've used Wifix apps etc, no luck. I've reverted to old night lies I used to run without any problems however the problem stays. I've consider flashing back to TouchWiz to see if that helps it but I really don't want to
Can someone please help me. My phone is on contract and my bill is overdue so I won't have mobile data until it's cleared (around June) so if I don't have WiFi, I'm screwed.

Have you tried flashing a new modem? This generally fixes wifi (and sound issues if there are any)
I barely know what a modem is haha but if that's the case, I'll try today.
Here you have a list of modems. Read the topic as it also has some info and the flashing guide.
You need to go to sammobile firmware checker and input your phone model, country and carrier. Then it will show you the correct firmware for your country and carrier. Based on that, download the modem. Make sure you get the latest modem. If you can't find the latest modem on the linked thread, there was another thread with all the latest modems, but I can't seem to find it anymore.

I'm on 5.02 CM12, I downloaded the latest modem for my GT-I9505 which matched the firmware code for a 4.4.2 S4 however still no luck ffs. This is really annoying, i don't know how my WiFi could jist shut off on me like that :/. Looks like I'm going to have to buy myself a new phone then. Can't use my mobile data for a couple months as my carrier has blocked me until I pay off my bill and now with my wifi disconnecting every 2 mins, I basically cannot use the internet. So frustrated.
I've flashed new nightlies, changed baseband versions, factory reset my phone and still no luck. What makes things worse is i cannot see any other threads with people in my postition so help is so minimal :/. Annoyed is an understatement.

If you updated bootloader then you can't go back to kitkat roms. Only the 5.0 lollipop roms. But Samsung hasn't released the official update in all countries.
If it still doesn't work, even with official firmware, then it might be hardware related. Maybe even your wifi router.

Hi, i'm going to flash lollipop touchwiz onto my phone using this http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/android-5-...-s4-lte-how-manually-install-via-odin-1492230.
Anything i should know/do before doing this?
Did you flash an alternate kernel?
Wifi issues are often kernel related. Not always...but often.
Hi all, I have a GT-I9500 GSM (Iraqi firmware I9500XXUHPB3, 5.0.1) Galaxy S4 which I am using in the US on AT&T's network. Bought the phone secondhand and have been using it for years - worked absolutely perfect. A while back received an OTA upgrade notification and allowed it. Starting immediately afterwards, phone will rarely connect to the cell phone network (not even talking about data here, phone calls/SMS aren't working!). Once every few minutes to every few hours and shortly after reboot it will pick up the signal, but then within seconds it's back to no network connection.
The update installation was pretty quick so I'm not sure what actually got upgraded - I'm wondering if it was the modem? Anyway my question is: what would you suggest to a newbie when it comes to phones (with plenty IT experience in PCs) as a way to try fixing it? I'm perfectly fine with attempting to flash/root it, though I've never done it before, it seems like a straightforward enough process. However there doesn't seem to be a US firmware for this phone. I'm thinking Canadian firmware/modem might be the best way to go? Should I try the modem first, or firmware? I'd love to not have to replace this perfectly functioning (hardware-wise) phone if I can avoid it - don't have the funds for a replacement right now. Many thanks in advance for any suggestions!
Phone details:
Bootloader/PDA: I9500XXUHPB3
CSC: I9500OJVHPB1
Baseband: I9500XXUHPB1
Update: solved ?
(No, not solved. It looked optimistic for a while, but still no signal)
I followed instructions you will find by searching Google for:
"Update Galaxy S4 GT-I9500 with Android 5.0.1 Lollipop Official Firmware" on HowToRootMobile
(I'm a new user here so it won't let me post a link)
to flash a Russian 5.0.1 firmware.
After a reasonable signal for a short while, I'm now back to looking at the circle with a line across it (no signal).
I have the same case but my s4 is I9505 and i did not do anything to the phone not even root it just stopped working

I am becoming increasingly convinced that this is planned obsolescence. Your phone may have installed the same update without prompting. Needless to say my next phone will not be a Samsung.
Try flashing the latest modem via Odin....see this thread for flashable modems http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4/general/ref-galaxy-s4-i9505-modems-bootloaders-t3315987

He clearly has an i9500 and you've an i9505.
@Stranger2k
Try to flash previous modem and see if it works.

So I got this Note 3 as a gift from a relative. So I don't have much info on it. Apart from it having Vodafone Bloat pre-installed. I have the device on stock rom Android version 4.4.2, and NG1 baseband. So I tried rooting with CF-autoroot and it successfully rooted but unfortunately ever since I rooted it, there's no network. It reads the sim, but it doesn't register to any network. I also installed Xposed right after rooting before realizing the issue when trying to download modules (since samsung has a bad habit of showing me network bars even without a sim)
So now I'm in dire need of a solution since this is my only working phone at the moment and I'll be leaving tomorrow for Eid at a relative's house where I won't have my PC.
I've looked around in the forums but there's no definite solution. No, I didn't flash stock back yet. I'll have to wait till 12AM when my ISP doubles my speed. But any tinkering I can do now?

I will try that!
Flashed thrice and the third time's a charm. Got everything back!
Did you flash the entire rom or just the modem? Let us know in case someone else is facing the same problem. Thanks.
