[Q] WiFi Hotspot on Verizon without being billed? - Droid RAZR M Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all
I have a Verizon Motorolla Droid RAZR M (XT907) and it's rooted. I was using the stock tethering app in settings from Verizon and my company told me not to use it, then gave me a MiFi portable hotspot, but then 2 months later they took it away.... So now I want to figure out how to tether my phone without the company being billed for tethering. I tried FoxFi but it doesn't work at all. Anyone have a good app for this, preferably free? Or some way to use the stock app without being billed? I tried to search but there's nothing specific to my question...

You could try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1981625 but of course they would see an increase in data...

About teathering- switching to verizon

I'm about to switch back to verizon for the better network and was wondering if teathering would worknthe same as on my sprint hero.. I know that a lot of verizon devices have a button to teather stock and they want you to pay crazy prices for their service..
If I root a droid x can I tether on the down low? ... Thanks for any help.
Yeah you can use wireless tether or barnacle wifi tether. I believe there is a mod for the stock tether app to use it for free but never bothered trying it as the two I mentioned work fine.

Team Black Hat has a patch for the stock 3G WiFi App... Works perfectly.

thanks guys big help, so if i get this right.. the same as sprint- verizon will have no idea if i am teathering or not..?
They might be able to guess by the amount of data you use, but I use insane amounts of data and have yet to receive any complaints or notices of excessive usage.

If you wanna tether through your USB, pdanet works pretty well, though I think it's more hassle than a WiFi tether.

Hotspot Without Root?

Any idea if this would work on the M? The only real reason I want root is to tether...

Settings > Tethering & Mobile Hotspot > Mobile Hotspot
I have 5 people with smart phones so I went with the new family plan which includes Mobile Hotspot. Call verizon to see if you will be charged if you use it. The ads for the phone from verizon said 8 devices can connect with 4G and 5 devices with 3G. I think the carriers are beginning to realize that charging for tethering from a phone is a battle that they aren't going to win.

I have 3 smart phones and 2 regular phones and a tablet. 2 phones have unlimited data. I have a discount and I am only paying $20/month for the unlimited data per phone. I use 6+MB each month and the others barely use 2 combined.
I have asked VZW to review my account and the share everything plan will actually cost me money because of my discounts.

You don't have to root to thether. Verizon's hotspot app will work fine. I asked the guys in the store and a co- workers s3 worked just fine with hotspot.

There's also clockwork mod tether in the play store- no root needed. You have to pay for the app but it supports a great dev.

Does this work on the M and without the account being provisioned for tether?

You can use the app "wifi hotspot and USB tether" by svtp. Go to settings and change the device profile to samsung Ics. After 2 days you have to pay for the app but it works with no root on the Razr M

It could be a feature not enabled in your plan. I would check there first
It's not part of my plan. I'm trying to do it "on the sly".
I was hoping I could get Wi-Fi tether to make the Nexus 4 appear as an access point, and not ad-hoc, but I haven't been able to get it to do that. Anyone else had luck?

Can anyone help?? I've looked everywhere. I can connect to the hotspot, just not to the internet. Same thing happens with the hotspot on my Galaxy Tab. Both are with ATT.

AT&T actively blocks teather if you don't pay for it. Not sure of a work around as they are blocking it from there end not the phones end. That said some of the thethering apps claim to be able to defeat this, the one Koush made, clockworkmod tether, comes to mind but it only has a 14 day free trial, $4.99 after that. It also requires a desktop client to be installed. Also is this plain AT&T or Straight Talk AT&T? Straight Talk limits you to 100 MB of data per day with a 2 GB cap. If you go over either they throttle you to 2G speeds for the rest of the month.
Regular ATT, not straight talk. Looks like the clockworkmod tether is usb only.....
Try WiFi tether for android.

[Q] Free WiFi Hotspot Working

I'm thinking of purchasing the LG G2 on T-Mobile. Can anyone confirm that free WiFi hotspot tethering works? Either through FoxFi or Custom ROM natively? I need it for my WiFi tablet and prefer not to pay extra for a tethering plan. Thanks!
AFAIK T-Mobile doesn't charge for tethering at all. Or at least they don't charge me. It just works out of the box stock. No root or anything. Unless you are on some old plan, I don't believe they charge on any of their new ones.

I have 500mb free with my plan. After that it gets blocked for my laptop but my tablets still connect and work perfect

[Q] Tether/Wi-Fi Hotspot activation

On my Galaxy S4 I was able to download an app called 1-Click WiFI Tether that didn't require the phone to be rooted. I just upgraded to the S5 and now the app does not work. I was wondering if anyone here knows of a good app that I can use without rooting the phone or am I going to have to wait till it is rooted in order to make my phone a hotspot?

Which carrier version do you have? Most have been rooted by now, and it takes all of 30 seconds to do.

I have an S5 from at&t. From what I have read, there is not any root for this one.

Galaxy S5 on Sprint Wifi Tethering
I am having the same problem with wifi tethering. I have already rooted the device, but every wifi tether app I have tried does not work. Including Wifi Tether, Wifi Tether Router, and FoxFi. Also hide it pro no longer works on the new android kitkat. Any suggestions would be really appreciated. Thank you.
which carriers removed the wifi tether toggle from the drop down menu. I have a verizon s5 and it is missing.
Wifi Router worked on my rooted S5 on sprint. look here.
