Hello,
Lately I have noticed that on my G2 (ls980), the touchscreen latency alternates between very responsive (very low delay to register touch/swipe) and very unresponsive (longer delay to register touch/swipe). Originally I thought it was just a problem with the ROM I was running, but I have encountered this issue on every ROM I have tried (including stock). It happens randomly, but usually when the phone first comes out of sleep, it is responsive and has a low latency. Within the next minute, latency increases.
Could this be kernel/driver problem? Has anyone else encountered this issue? From what I gather, this is NOT the same touchscreen sensitivity issue that has already been discussed.
Thanks!
I found the g2 (d802) touch just not adequate for a flagship phone. Sometimes you have like a feeling of poor sensitivity, and the delay to register the touch is greater than Nexus5 (side by side comparison). It's good, ok, but sometimes you can miss some tap because a too low (or brief) pressure on the screen.

Yes, this is common as of what I have heard and read on the forum. A quick fix is to press the power button and wake it again. It's strange but works for my 802 on both stock and omni.
Another interesting thing is that touch latency even at its best is quite far from the best phones on the market today. Look at this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2706200&page=4
What does HTC do so much better?

My XDA Mini has a screen issue.
Only part for the screen (the middle) has stopped responding to the touch pad.
How do I fix this, has anyone else had it?
Cheers

My Wizard (O2 XDA Mini S) has just developed this problem. The touch screen does not respond to touches around the middle of the screen. The outside edges of the screen work fine however.
I've had it for about 4 years now though, so I suppose its lasted well really. It's a G4 and I installed a WM6.1 ROM on it about 6 months ago (which is awesome btw, makes the phone sooo much better / faster!) but I don't think this is related to the problem.
Any known fix for this? I think it's a hardware issue since I also have the problem where upon opening/closing the keyboard, the screen goes white with multicoloured vertical lines and the phone emits a high pitched noise (have to put phone into standby then wake it up again to resolve). This, whilst annoying, I can live with, but not now the middle of the screen no longer responds to touches
I read somewhere its to do with the ribbon cable that connects the screen and main board, its gets trapped or worn over time as the keyboard is slid in and out. So I guess the touch problem is a more severe symptom of this? Can it be fixed?
Also a point of interest is that I keep the phone in the case a lot of the time. Could the magnets have possibly affected the screen? Anyone else with this problem keep the phone in its case a lot?
Thanks in advance,
Jamie
I tested out the HD2 outside in below freezing temps, and it really had a tough time registering my finger presses. It took about 5 minutes, before it could register properly... Anyone experience these issues?
Yes, and the wind keeps pressing things which makes it almost useless. I'm hoping some of the hints here on how to make it less sensitive will help but I haven't tried it yet.
I've noticed the "ghost" pressing (the screen registered a LOT of presses when my fingers were nowhere near the screen) of the screen too. I also contacted HTC support on the issue, and they said it was not a known problem.
So, again, I'd suggest that if you're experiencing issues with the screen in cold temperatures (finger touches not registering, "ghost pressing" etc.), let HTC know about it!
i got that kind of ghost typing too. pretty funny to watch but annoying when you see its deleting mails, answering sms or calls people ... will contact htc as well to let them know.
Confirmed here too. Though I thought it was caused by constant rain/snow here in Moscow, which fell directly on the screen when the ghost tapping occured.
Yeah I get the ghost tapping but only after i've been in a call and hang up, it then starts doing all sorts of things by itself normally ending up with dialling someone!! :/
I dunno about the ghost-typing but isn't it a common fact that capacitive screens don't work well with low temperatures?
That's a capacitive touch-panel "Feature" . HTC can't do anything about it (besides lowering the screen sensitivity).
edit: Umiss beat me to it lol
you can lower the screen sensitivity either by installing the new 1.48 rom or using the cab from the hints and tweaks thread in opening couple of posts. Should help.
Hi,
I played around with a Asus Transformer...I'm getting my own soon (very soon!).
Comparing it to the touch sensitivity of xoom and iPad2's, the Asus doesn't seem to be as sensitive. I'm a novice when it comes to Droid. Is there a setting to change the sensitivity? Sometimes it seems like I keep having to tap something again because it didn't take the first time.
I'm hoping it's a software adjustment, and not a hardware limitation...
I've search the forum where some people were having actual issues with the touch screen not responding or not responding in certain areas. That isn't my question - the screen responds, just not to quick/light touches on icons.
Thanks!

i dont think there is any setting to adjust sensitivity. Ive not tried the other pads but ive never had any problem with lack of sensitivity on my TF.
Maybe once the devs really get into the TF there might be some tweaks possible.
Hi everyone,
I finally updated from my Z1 Compact, and have experienced some touchscreen issues with my X Compact.
Top left corner ("back" in most apps) needs a lot of pressure to react
swipe-behaviour is sometimes erratic, meaning it only registers a very short swipe or a touch.
I get ghost-taps on the navbar, but only the navbar, and only when tapping. When I touch one button, sometimes I get a simultaneous touch on a second. Back and taskswitcher has happened, so it's no proximity-thing.
These problems mostly happen when using light touches. When I press very deliberately, like my granddad, it works. I'm a bit disappointed. Does anyone have similar issues? Or no problems at all? And if so, what ROM are you on? I want to find out if this is a software problem, a batch problem or a systemic hardware issue.
I'm on 34.1.A.3.22
I'm having a touchscreen issue with thermal throttling on my essential: the touchscreen becomes completely unresponsive while the rest of the phone is functioning normally (active videos keep playing, the volume buttons perform the expected actions). When I hit the power button to turn the screen off and then wake up the device the touchscreen works - but only for a short time, seconds or less. It always happens when the phone is warm, but not nearly as lava-hot as my LG G5 or Galaxy S3 used to get. So I put the phone on an ice pack briefly, and the touchscreen always becomes responsive again.
I'm on build NMI64C.
This thread (https://forum.xda-developers.com/essential-phone/help/agressive-thermal-throttling-t3672225) talks about overly-aggressive thermal throttling on the phone. This thread (https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=73692472&postcount=8) mentions "random" freezes that resolve temporarily after turning the screen off and on again. This thread (https://forum.xda-developers.com/essential-phone/help/touch-screen-unresponsive-t3674192) talks about unresponsiveness, but it resolved for them after the update.
Anyone else having this issue, or any ideas how to fix besides carrying around ice packs?
