HD2 oudside in the cold. - HD2 General

I tested out the HD2 outside in below freezing temps, and it really had a tough time registering my finger presses. It took about 5 minutes, before it could register properly... Anyone experience these issues?

Yes, and the wind keeps pressing things which makes it almost useless. I'm hoping some of the hints here on how to make it less sensitive will help but I haven't tried it yet.

I've noticed the "ghost" pressing (the screen registered a LOT of presses when my fingers were nowhere near the screen) of the screen too. I also contacted HTC support on the issue, and they said it was not a known problem.
So, again, I'd suggest that if you're experiencing issues with the screen in cold temperatures (finger touches not registering, "ghost pressing" etc.), let HTC know about it!

i got that kind of ghost typing too. pretty funny to watch but annoying when you see its deleting mails, answering sms or calls people ... will contact htc as well to let them know.

Confirmed here too. Though I thought it was caused by constant rain/snow here in Moscow, which fell directly on the screen when the ghost tapping occured.

Yeah I get the ghost tapping but only after i've been in a call and hang up, it then starts doing all sorts of things by itself normally ending up with dialling someone!! :/

I dunno about the ghost-typing but isn't it a common fact that capacitive screens don't work well with low temperatures?

That's a capacitive touch-panel "Feature" . HTC can't do anything about it (besides lowering the screen sensitivity).
edit: Umiss beat me to it lol

you can lower the screen sensitivity either by installing the new 1.48 rom or using the cab from the hints and tweaks thread in opening couple of posts. Should help.

Weird Touchscreen behavour - Video Doku.

Hi, I'm a big fan of the HD2 but in the last two weeks, since i own this device, i'm getting confused by some screen imput behavour that i will present you.
I want to figure out if this "screenbugs" i have to fight with every day, are normal or a hardwaredefect. To make you guys an imagine of what i mean, i uploaded some youtube videos for each bug.
1. The first one i call: The painting edge
This bug is only present if i not have installed the less sensitive CAB from this forum.
Explaination:
Many of you have notice that the glass of the screen doesn't fit exactly in the case of the device. The right bottom of the glass protrude a very little. Then i lightly press on this position, the screen notice a press on the right top...as you can see in notes on my youtube video:
Video 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c49x9vB4bzQ
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Beforce you say...my device doesn't having any of the following bugs, REMEMBER, This bugs are not present every second. Sometimes i can use the device for 30min without having some of this.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
2. The Electrocardiography
This bug, i think could be the reason for the following bugs.
Explaination: Trying to draw a straight line an you think you device will get a heart attack soon.
On the half of my second try you can see how the device suddenly works normal again.
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t54m1dSLnV8
3. The shaking Screen
Explaination:
I have notice that some other guys have this bug too. You can see this on every scrollable screen, like opera, IE, zoomed pictures, the manila tab, startmenu...etc. etc.
Best seen on minute 0:54 in my video.
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6hIE_wV4djs
4.The non pressed key
Explaination:
You are cofused about keyboard reaction while writing a text message? You type an "a" and getting a "t"? Than you have "the non pressed key" bug how i call it.
you have to watch on some key input where my finger is totally out of range. I don't mean the fault input next to the key i pressed...
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_B1GiyMp_O4
----------------------------------------------------------------
There is a fifth bug i didn't get on video yet because it is very rarely.
I had have this bug only 5-6 times since i own this device, but it sucks realy hard.
I call it
5. The self-typing keyboard
Explaination:
Then i'm typing some text sometimes the keyboard begins to typing without having the finger one the touchscreen. it can be have a duration of 5-10 seconds or 20 letters/numbers.
It can also be watched, without keyboardaction. Then the screen scrolls wild in any direction without any finger on screen.
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-fdXU8SoPTg from htcracer211
----------------------------------------------------------------
If someone can tell me if i can embed the youtube videos in this forum...
Go get a replacement, the screen is perfect. Although I admit it does not fit correctly but it is great. I only need the earpiece fix
please watch the videos before you comment anything...
...You're too much electrostatically charged...
...Or something of electrostatic is in the range of your device...
But it's like your touch panel is faulty. Get a replacement (warranty rules)
Have brought it back today...but couldn't get a replacement...no devices
tryed all your test and get no errors on screen, electro worked perfecly, keyboard keeps presing same key without leaving the range, and i cant notice any shaking effect.
So probably your screen is faulty , change your device as fast as you can matte
I have brought it already back, but it seems to be that others have all my listed bugs too. take a look at the poll results. On another forum a guy has tested the "painting edge" on 3 devices after he saw my video and all devices have this bug!!!!
Hey Guys,
I have the first 3 bugs on my HD2, too. But with BSB Tweaks 1.31 i solved the first 2 one by activating the option "Screen Sensitivity".
Hi,
If you look in the sticky thread here somewhere in the LEO section about tweaks and registry changes there is a topic on reducing the sensitivity of the screen.
I think what's happening here is the electric current in your fingers is playing havoc with the screen when your fingers are either close to or on the screen.
Let us know if this helps you.
WB
whow, that's a lot of problems for one device.
I have the "non pressed key issue" : (that's annoying as hell, typing a message is a heavy burden now) and the shakey screen. should i bring my handset back or try the tweaks... I didn't expect this from an 600€ handset

When i was made this video my finger was always with the same pressure on the touchscreen. It was not close...and not weak on screen...normal pressure. And you can see at the middle of my second try where i'm drawing lines in notes that the screen suddenly works normal.
I also wrote in my first thread, that this bug is not every second present...but then it's present its also the reason for some other input errors, like the "non pressed key" i think.
Quick question: How much pressure do you apply to the display (what is "normal"?)? Scince your display is reacting weird to pressure on the bottom right corner, any pressure might be linked to erroreous behavior. Do the shaking related errors remain when you don't press at allk?
to the OP: what ROM are you on ? have you tried 1.48 ?
I can recommende you to use screenprotector film and install cab for less sensitive.
But even without this all I had not this problem Looks like your sreen very sensitive for electrocharging and not have normal ground contact. This is way to warranty service.
lmao >.< sorry mate but get a replacement NOW!! I've never got these problems, everything works smooth and properly, sorry about that...
do u have a screen protector? i am wondering if the screen protector does anything bad to it...
You have the exact same problems I had when I first got my device, the main concern was the device having its own mind and making random key presses, even without you touching it or even being near it. I got my unit replaced and the new one works like a charm.
I noticed today that MY PERFECT SCREEN starting acting weird !!!! Its jittering !!! Damnnnn !!!!
I'm totally spooked by your video's!!!
I personally never experienced these bugs so I spend the last half our replicating your bugs.
The only thing I noticed was that Electrocardiography but I think you have your finger too flat on the screen (it has a too large surface area) because when I write on the screen as if my finger where a pencil (straight up instead of flat) the screen is working as it should!
I think you must have a faulty device. Perhaps try to flash it with 1.48 if you haven't done that already.

On iPhone with exactly the same finger it draws almost a precise straight line. This problem comes directly from HD2's screen, not from fingers, weather, humidity and so on.

touch screen issues

Anyone else having their touch screen stop working property until they have to reboot? It's like it gets way off on where I'm actually clicking.
I have experienced that, but only after I had flashed the modaco rom. I basically returned to stock firmware this morning and am having to re-root my phone...
I have had a couple of occasions where it doesnt seem to respond correctly.
For me its like it looses the calibration, seemed to noticed it when the device is tilted horizontally.
reboot sorts it, only happened once or twice though.
If the phone is in your hand, make sure your other fingers aren't curling over the screen around the edges to much.
I noticed this happening, and backed my fingers off around the edge of the screen and it started working fine immediately.
I think the screen is just extra sensitive.
Curious if that helps.

I read somewhere (maybe on this forum even) that non-multi-touch systems have this problem. Have the same issue with my HTC Magic, but after a while you learn of a way to use the device single-handed while not touching the screen.
I dont know if this helps or not but I have no idea what you guys are talking about

The calibration problem (the screen registers a wrong spot than where you touched) comes up if you try to use a non-multi-touch phone single-handedly, so part of your palm (between the thumb and index fingers) touches the edge of the touch screen. Especially if you are trying to reach a top area of the screen while holding the phone with just that hand, likely some part of the palm touches the bottom of the screen.
If you want to try having the problem, you can touch the edge of the screen with a finger and try to click a link with another. It won't register the right spot.
Supposedly the problem should go away as soon as you lift that body part up from the screen.... so I don't know if this helps the OP or not.
same issue
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=615711
does not look like its happening all the time. Ran few tests and still can't duplicate the problem in order to find the cause. so far this happened about 3-4 times on my phone.
i hope this gets resolved soon and that its not the touchscreen issue.

I've had this exact thing happen to me a few times. I notice the tip of a finger on the edge of the screen, move it, then it works fine right after. Sometimes happens with the base of my thumb hitting the bottom left corner too.
Just make sure you're not accidentally touching any of the touch area and it'll work fine.
same here

I have had this same issue on my G1 as well a N1. This problem only happens from time to time, as happes with stock ROMs and custom ROMs.
For the N1, I was initial pulling the battery; however, I have found that if I hold the power button down (don't let go) and then touch the screen to unlock or power if off.
I have a friend with the Eris who was having the same problem; Verizon released a patch earlier in the week that seems to have solved the problem for him.

You can perform a soft reset on the Nexus One by holding volume down, the trackball, and pressing the Power button on top. A half second later, your phone will reboot.
I am also having these touch screen problems, and I can confirm I am not touching any other part of the screen to have it interfere with the non-touch-screen interface. I been testing with what people has been saying on here with having any other part of the screen being pressed, so I have been testing it out and I can say its a different response then what I'm experiencing.
Here is what is going on with my nexus one:
1) it happens at random times (my device is on my table and I am pressing buttons with one finger)
2) it only affects the bottom-left portion of the screen when it happens, touching everywhere else is fine
3) it thinks I'm pressing an area around the soft keys, an example is if I press 'A' it thinks I press either the '?123' or the 'back' button, same if I press 'd' it thinks I'm pressing the 'menu' button.
I can conclude that since not all nexus one owners has this problem it is a device issue, which what is going on is probably the same as if someone was accidentally pressing a part of the screen, but it could be part of the device is assembled incorrect or deformed. The physical form of my phone is off on the right side, I can feel the gray plastic part next to the black border next to the right of the screen is a little more raised then the left side.
But there is my experience with whats going on to me and my two cents.
Ive had this a little bit on my device as well, but I think it's a software issue since it went away when I pressed the home button.
edit:
Also it has happened exclusively in Dolphin browser
here too
Sporadically, it happens with my N1 as well. When pointing at the middle of the screen (in a list for example), the input registers 2 cm below my fingertip. Rebooting fixes this temporarily but it is annoying.
A SW update could perhaps cure this behaviour?

I just had this happen for the first time, all my presses were registering way below where i was touching, tilting into landscape in an app then back to portrait fixed it for me.
So now it happened to me too. I have the Nexus One for almost two weeks and I never had the unresponsive touchscreen. Of course I noticed that the center of the softbuttons is shifted upwards and that they don't register very well in the middle where they should and I had the problem before that the sms text input box didin't registered in the center so that the keyboard wasn't popping out but that is all only a problem of adjustment. Today in the morning after my phone was on standby over night I put in the charger to charge it and I got an email with pictures. I scrolled through the email and all of a sudden the screen became totally unresponsive. I tried to scroll and the screen registered at a complete different place. All of a sudden the email was gone because the phone registered the delete button even though I never pressed it. I could close the gmail program but I had a hard time to scroll between the home screens and the live wallpaper became unresponsive too. I decided to do a restart but I had a hard time to press the shutting down button because it was unresponsive too. This all happened not after heavily usage of the phone but after maybe 1 minute usage.
I am sure that I didn't touch another part of the screen when this occured because I realized before already that the screen becomes wacky if you touch it at two different places (lack of multitouch, so stupid to disable it). I hope that this is a software issue too. I can live at the moment with the 3G problem because it doesn't stop me from using the phone. The unresponsive touchscreen scares me more because because it becomes completely unusable.
i've noticed this with low battery. Twice its happened to me, the first time was when i first recieved the handset. and secondly was this morning when my phone was off with no battery again.
anybody want to leave their battery to empty out and try test if this is correct?
I've had this happen a few times in the ten days i've had the phone. I always make sure I'm not double dipping on the screen, and its easy to do since it will exhibit this behavior for a few minutes.
In my experience battery level has no effect on it.
A reboot always fixes the issue.
I figure it's software based.

Jittery screen - should I return it?

Hi,
I've had a look around, and can see I'm not the only person who has this problem.
Sometimes, not always, the screen with jitter/shake. Whether it's scrolling webpages, sliding the quicklinks slider on the home page, writing texts. It's like my fingers are touching two places really quickly, and the screen will shake. When texting, it's impossible to write a message without making a mistake, as it will sometimes select letters away from the ones I'm actually trying to tap - I have tried with spell correction on, which reduces the number of mistakes, but not all.
I've tried different Roms, soft resets, hard resets, QWERTY and phone keypad, reducing the screen sentitivity, etc. Seems to happen in all applications, but not all of the time.
Has anyone else had this issue, and did you have to send the handset back for repair or replacement? If so, did it resolve the issue?
Thanks,
Try using the pad of your finger, not the tip. If it still happens when you're doing that then there's probably a fault with the phone and you need to get a replacement.

Go to a phone shop and test a demo HD2 there and compare it to your own. If yours isn't working as well, send it off to HTC.
I had a screen fault and sent mine off. It was back in my hands within 2 weeks, all better again!
Do make sure you flash back to an official rom before sending though, obviously.
my tmobile G1 did what sounds to be the same thing as yours. i would touch in one place and the screen would dance around like it was being touched in several places........though I like being touched in several places at once, apparently the phone doesn't ;O)........ oh yeah, tmobile had to replace the phone!
it is a common capastive screens issue even my friends iphone have this issue but less than hd2 as its screen is smaller

[Q] G2 "ghost clicks" screen sensitivity

Has anyone noticed that their screen is picking up "clicks" without actually touching the screen?
on occassion my screen will detect a button click even if i haven't actually touched the screen. It's starting to get annoying, but I don't know if that's just the way the phone is, or if i'm too used to a capacitive screen rather than a heat sensitive one.
i had this happen a few times. not enough to bother me that much. it happens sometimes when my finger is hovering really close to the screen, like i'm getting ready to press on it but not yet because i'm still reading whatever it is on the screen, and then it ends up clicking it anyway. i think its happened a total of 3 times for me. 2 other times though, i've had the screen do double taps when i was just swiping around. trying to scroll up and down on a webpage and it registered as zooming in. i did do some zooming in and out a few seconds prior so i think for some reason it was "stuck" on double tap mode or something. had to switch the screen off and on to fix it.

yea it does the same thing for me as well. I sometimes go to press a letter and the letter gets pressed twice. it's really annoying. i'm hoping that if i buy a screen protector it will get better but i'm betting that I'm gonna have to battle with LG's terrible customer service.
Never happened to me. The screen (as with every other smartphone I have had) doesn't react unless I'm actually clicking. Even if I touch the screen with the SLIGHTEST touch I can do, it doesn't react. Which is good, no problem reacting when I actually click.
I guess it might have something to do with my fingers being hard as metal due to guitar playing or something.
On mine it seems to get worse as the screen gets oily. If it starts to wig out, I wipe down the screen and that usually solves the problem for a couple days.
When my screen gets overly sensitive i turn the screen on and off again. Usually fixes it.

Maybe i'm just crazy, but when i spend this much on a phone I shouldn't have to turn the screen on and off constantly to get it to work.
Hopefully LG realizes this is a problem and rushes out an update...

it happened to me... not only that the screen freezzes from the ghost clicks... the clicks are on middle of the screen staying... for example by playing Plants vs Zombies 2... the screen doesn't react at all.
I think that has something to do with the "smart-stay" or with the screen time-limit.
... plus of that... the phone gets really hot at that time.
any solutions?... or back to guarantee?
Greets.
Never happened to me, however I know exactly what you're talking about from using cheap Chinese tablets. Therefore I suggest getting it fixed or exchanged.

Jumpy/Shaky screen while holding finger on my new S8

Hello,
When I scroll down/left/right in my phone and hold my finger on display, the screen automatically shakes left and right or up and down (depending on how I was scrolling my device). This also occurs while charging and while moving an icon on home-screen. I had this issue previously with Asus Zenfone 3, Samsung Galaxy J7 and a HTC Desire (dont remember the exact model though) and a similar issue with iphone 6 (which was registering that my finger was moving on home button). Is this a software problem or hardware problem and how can I fix this ? I have read on web that many people are facing this issue on various phones. but couldnt find any solution yet. Is this my screen sensitivity/touch/display driver/ battery or something else ? If anyone could suggest something, would be really helpful.
Edit: Exactly the same issue as this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kxysauxJ5Yk&feature=youtu.be but mine shakes a bit less, still annoys me while playing 8 ball pool and other aiming games like angry birds, etc.
Thanks
There is an app which you can use to test your touch screen by drawing on it. You'll be able to see exactly what it's registering. From what I've seen it happens on a lot of phones with bad digitizers. Try to get a warranty replacement.

Hello,
Sorry for delay. I went to service centre and they said that it is normal because of smooth and silky touch and slight movement of fingers. I explained him that it occurs more while charging and he had to take my phone for inspection.
Here is the correct video : https://youtu.be/PmQ2lra4RXU
My hand didnt have tremors. I agree that human hands are not 100 % stable, however, none of my other phones do it. And if my hand is shaking, then it should shake also while the phone is not charging. When I unplug my device, it stops shaking (almost stops), but when I replug it, it starts to behave weird again when I am holding finger stable. Also, this shaking will move your aim pointer in gaming and it really is annoying while play games with pointer moving.
Is it really normal that your pointer moves while your finger is stable on screen ?
