For 4.3 custom ROMs the makoz20i bootloader is not required, but the .84 radio is required.

It's recommended to upgrade to the makoz20i bootloader to be ready for KeyLimePie.
Flash the radio and bootloader first, then flash the ROM, Gapps, and SuperSU (if not included in the ROM).

Well then you've got to live with it. You can't just flash another rom and hope that the features from the previous rom will stay. It wont.
You've got 3 options :
A - Stay with PAC, wait till they update to 4.3
B - Wipe your PAC, flash PA 4.3 and live with it.
C - Compile your own rom with your own features.
If you wanna keep your APPS and APP DATA, use titanium backup.

you backup all your apps to sd card.. after you are done with 4.3 you install titanium backup and restore them.. some apps you might need to update if not updated already..

You will most likely brick it. Use Hash code's safestrap in development section
With safestrap tho can't you only flash stock ROMs?

Correct, our VZW specific Note 3 has a locked bootloader so we can't modify it aside from the stock .tar file via Odin
You want to use this method to apply the MJE update before doing anything else
Then root via Kingo, have to google it
Then install Safestrap, open it, select install recovery
Profit
Lol good luck let us know if you run into issues it's not too rough
OK thanks..man that sucks that the boot loader hasn't been unlocked yet

If he wants the full root experience, at this time his best option might be to return the phone for something else if he is within his 14-day period.
I'm not sure what else though ... The N3 is a great device. My understanding is that the camera on the HTC One isn't great, and I'm not sure what the root situation on the LG device is, nor how much developer love it will get over time.
Maybe he should leave Big Red for a different carrier... making sure they know exactly why on the way out the door.
Haha yeah thats what i said I have T-Mobile s4 and had mine hacked in 5 mins with a custom ROM on it

So pretty much as title states.. just wanted to find out whether I'd have to re-root the phone and if I would lose LTE (I think I would lose LTE, but not sure about root)? Also, overall, is 4.4 worth upgrading to?
thanks lots!
IMHO update is definitely worth it. You'll lose root and LTE. But you can easily just reroot and flash a LTE radio.

This device is so easy to root don't worry about it. Do you have a custom recovery? If so find the update.zip. If you don't try the ota. If you've changed system files out probably won't work but if you haven't it will

i actually used to have 4.3 on this nexus, but reverted back to 4.2 because when i did it, you couldn't have LTE with 4.3.. so you saying you can flash the radio with 4.4 now?
