Keyboard/Autocorrect Issue - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When I type into a text box at a fast pace, occasionally a misspelled word would be corrected and then repeat. I would type say, "Hiw are you?" And get "How how are you?". No I do not select the word, it just does it.

So are the double entries just a bug?

it is not a bug.
it is an autocorrect system from samsung keyboard which link to google dictionary or somewhere dictionary
when autocorrect is on, and when you type something wrong, and then press space, your wrong typo will be replaced automatically.
Not a bug. But the AI not learning well or maybe too well ?

Weird Browser quirk... Stock or Dolphin

So this is something that kinda bothers me.
After Damage Control's V1 (2.1) this is pretty much the only thing I can think of to ***** about
If you're in the browser, at some random web page, and you press the search hard button... there is no damn space bar! The search button does bring up the search bar, but you have to goto the symbols just to press the space after each button. Its a real PITA.
Is this something that would be difficult to fix?

Uhmm I'm on Darchlegend V4, and when I hit search I comes up with the spacebar, but it's about half the size, and looks like an under bracket

If I could find my damn USB cable I'll post a screenshot.
Are you pressing search while IN THE BROWSER? The search works fine in any other program. Just not in the browser.
I just nand'ed back to my 1.5 modaco rom and it is the same way... no space bar.

It's probably the HTC STOCK keyboard that's causing this, because in Darch's rom he has the stock android keyboard in it.

Yah that's because of the keyboard. Download the Android keyboard, and you should have a spacebar.

yup, i just went to that cause someone requested a screen shot lol
I can confirm this happens in a vanilla install of DamageControl V1.0 -espresso- I can also confirm that this did not happen with my stock 1.5 build.
Do you folks think this is a 2.1 bug from HTC that is affecting ALL 2.1 roms sporting sense and the HTC keyboard then?
Is it something that can be easily fixed in the code?

Indeed!
The first "search" brings up the URL search and URL keyboard. It is designed for searching URLs and space is not a valid character in URL. Note that the
text in the search box says "Search or type URL".
Pressing "search" again, calls up a normal text search, and thus you get the keyboard with a space, and the text in the search box says "Quick Search Box".
Therefore, it's not a bug or an omission - it is by design.

Dave

Thats exactly what i was gonna say! The first search option for websites doesnt include the spacebar cuz there is never a space is a url... therefore this is a misunderstanding of how the software functions. A different keyboard will not change how the browser's search function works. It will still by default show url searches first. Changing browsers may help...

BRILLIANT!

Samsung secret features D-Pad and Screen

I just wanted to point a few things about the Samsung Vibrant everyone is complaining about how this phone does not have a D-Pad and i just wanted to clear this up.
In fact this phone has a d-pad, select the samsung keyboard if not already in use hold down the key on the keyboard that is use to select numbers and symbols you will see a d-pad appear with copy, past select text options.
Also to easily dim your screen or to brighten your screen, slide your finger across the top of the screen where the notification bar is and you will notice your screen brighten or darken according to which way you slide your finger. (Note you may need to disable auto brightness for this function to be activated.
Heres a pic of the dpad
The Swype keyboard also has a really nice d-pad. Just swype from the tutorial icon right to the SYM key and it will show up.
Sent from my Vibrant, using the XDA app.
Thank you very much for the brightness slide tip!!!
Anyone else accidentally changing the brightness a lot? I swipe the bar with my left thumb, and if it's too angled of a swipe, my screen brightness goes to 11. I never thought I'd complain about a screen being too bright, lol.
can we activate the d-pad when not in a text entry field? I used the trackball on my G1 to select html anchors to get at small links or hovering elements
Wow I did not know this thanks for the info.

It can be used on a web page, but I've only gotten it to come up by hitting a text box first. For that, even the addresses bar works.

yes all you have to do is hold down the menu key they keyboard will pop up and then you just have to do the process up top..
What about when you need to see text in a menu selection that is truncated to the side?
For example, if you go to Market -> Apps, under Finance and Health, you can see there are text that runs off to the right edge you can't read. In my old phone MyTouch, if I highlight Finance, the text will scroll across so I can read the rest of the line. Can't do this right now with the Vibrant.

I'm not seeing that option since holding down menu opens the url bar which can't be closed independently of the keyboard.

Awesome post, thanks.
Anyone figure out a better way to auto-fit text on the browser? I find tilting my phone to change the orientation and tilting it back makes it auto-fit. Phones like the Incredible do it as you're doing pinch to zoom--no need to flip the phone around.

excellent! I didn't realize that was a d pad lol.. i always thought of a d pad being like a trackball or flat button like on the blackberry bold 9700
thanks to you and the original poster for the tip. I found out about the swipe for screen brightness by John on droiddog dot com
very nice but in swype you can do the same thing just swype from the swype key at the bottom left to the SYM key right beside it and you get arrows and some other goodies.
Oh wow! This was my biggest complaint about the Vibrant. Thank you very much.

I hit the - or + buttons back and forth to get the text to wrap, yeah it's a bummer they don't wrap using the pinch zoom. Also you can double tap the screen to initiate zoom, that method also auto-fits the text.

[Q] WTF Nexus why won't you type LOL?

The default google swipey keyboard (whatever its called) always corrects this to loll. its driving me but**** insane. can someone please please PLEASE tell me how to get the stupid keyboard to start recognizing lol?
pet peeve #2? How the hell do you type email addresses? I swipe my name, @, the email name..then when i try to put '.com' it puts a damn space before the "."
super annoying. i have to back up and manually type the letters one at a time every single time.
is there like a tips and tricks somewhere? I have bad habits carried over from swype i guess..i also miss having a gesture (loop) to capitalize a word.
Go to your personal dictionary and add lol. That should fix that for you.

thanks..i've tried doing that right from the keyboard and failed..i guess i need to go find that setting under preferences...?
also if i paste the wrong text into messenger..i have to sit and hold the delete key while it slowly erases it 1 character at a time before i can type something new.
any way to clear the entire message area with one gesture or click so i can type something else?
this is very annoying when i kept trying to copy sometihng from a webpage and the wrong text kept being pasted into the message
The first 1 can be found under Settings /language & input/personal dictionary
The only way I know how to delete the whole message box is too long press the message box highlight everything in the box and cut it. It's just as easy to use the delete key though.

just type capital L, capital O, capital L. Click the blue LOL, click it again. Press OK. Done.
I've already done it to mine. And I probably should have done as mentioned and taken it as an opportunity to stop typing it.

I agree with this. Especially considering 90% of the time when someone types "LOL," they're not really laughing out loud.
I'd also suggest you use SwiftKey.

Emoticons on gesture typing??

Recently my phone started throwing out emoticons when I swipe type with the google keyboard. For example, when I type "right", it types a right arrow. Wtf? Is there a way I can disable this?
Thanks

Answer here appears to work: go into system settings->language and input->google keyboard settings gear->text correction->add-on dictionaries->install emoji for english, then delete it.
I think this may have taken away my ability to actually make emoji on purpose though.

LG keyboard word prediction saves every typo

Exactly as the title states. It saves junk text. Every little typo I make, this keyboard saves it. Typos such as "youbwill" ..It's all in there, and I can't seem to figure out how to GET RID of just those stupid words.
If there is a way to delete ONLY those words, I'm all ears. Thanks in advance.

If you press and hold on the wrong prediction does it give you an option to delete it?
Holding on a word only makes it highlight, until your finger is removed. If you hold your finger on the center word, it opens up to a list of alternative word choices. There is no press and hold action on those.
I find it odd that the center word is always the current typed word. In normal word prediction, the center word is almost always the correct word for misspellings and next word prediction.
Oh, I checked the personal dictionary. It was empty.
Did u ever find a solution? Typing on this keybiard is driving me crazy. It mever corrects ckearly words... Haha. You get the idea. Fir isca common one... And many many more. If you click on the wrong word it does not give an option to delete! Aaargh
go to settings, system, language & input, on-screen keyboard, lg keyboard, word suggestions., then hit clear suggestion history and update word word suggestions
