I had a search through, and have found this feature being adding onto other phones (via root and kernal changes mostly it seemed), but ouldnt find anything for the compact or the Z1.
Anyone had any luck with this? Seems a handy feature.
I tried the taptapapp on the play store, but its a poor substiture (uses proxy sensor) and is a bit too unreliable.
Knockknock seems to be a versoin that got rooted onto htc and some other phones via kernal I think.
Just wondered if anyone had seen this on the xperias

For Xperia Z1 there are already custom kernels with this feature. But nothing yet four little z1 compact we'll have to wait until some dev will port this to our phone.

can you provide me to these kernels' threads, cuz if they've shared their sources,
I might be able to find the code to enable tab2wake feature,
and once I find it, I can integrate it in Z1C kernel's sources and compile it for you

I think doomlord already does a kernal for the Z1c.... but it doesnt include Tap2Wake, as far as i can tell. I wonder why not.
I couldnt find the doomlord one offhand... Im sure I've seen people mention it though. However there is this one by androguide.fr :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2690071
It mentions something about touch events waking the GPU... noone mentions tap to wake specifically, but I assume its involved or something?
edit 2: Doomlords Z1c kernal
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2620794
They seem to say they'll only work on unlocked bootloaders, and androguides says it only works on CM based roms... though im not sure why. Ive noticed a couple people on RomAur are using doomlords (but the doomlord one doesnt mention tap2wake lol.)
Anyone gets this working stabley, maybe even on RomAur3.0, I would be very happy. If someone gets a stable kernal idea that should work on stock kitkat (not CM) then I may test it out myself. Hopefully we can get something working

But I really love your kernels and when I bought my Xperia Z1 Compact and saw there is no support from you for this device I felt sorry for buing this device! So the question is ...will you support this model? I think that you already know that this device is exactly a smaller Xperia Z1. Thanks in advance dude. I really love your work. Have a nice day!

Sorry for the late reply. I took a break from Android. I don't plan to support this device unless I can get one really cheap or free. May be crowdfund if you want it bad enough.

This is all well and good, but I'm not sure theres enough interest to crowdfund a phone for him.
Does anyone know if the other two dev kernels are compatible? I'm gonna go ask about it on their threads anyway
How about tap to sleep? I remember seeing it in a thread but couldn't find it any more.

As I said Faux makes one of the best kernels for android devices.A custom kernel for Xperia Z1 Compact made by Faux will have a lot of features like OC,UV,GPU OC,DT2W,Slide to wake,Color Calibration and a whole lot of features.So...a small donation like 5 € would be a small donation for such a kernel.
So I was trying all day to get T2W to work by implementing the right code in kernel sources then building it,
and after solving all compiling error, it got compiled eventually, and it booted fine, but still T2W isn't working!!
I have included all T2W related commits from This kernel's sources (because it is the easiest among the others)
but whatever I try, I can't get it to work at all, so does anyone know a specific thing to do after flashing the kernel to enable T2W??
I have already tried Pimp my Z1 but it shows this:
{

So now I'm gonna be trying to implement T2W from the other two kernels, maybe I'll compile them with all their features if I can, well see.
It woulds be awesome if you would get it to work!

Well now after some work on the kernel, I have good news and bad news
the good news is; I compiled DooMLoRD's kernel and now almost all its features are working on my Z1C
but the bad news is; even though T2W is enabled in the kernel and it now shows that your kernel supports T2W and I can enable it and disable it,
it makes no difference whether I enable it or not, T2W isn't working!!!!
Well see if I can do anything to make it work
Upload it here please! Thanks for your time spent on this kernel!

Hey Guys!
Stumbled upon this thread and the fix,
im using Phiremod ACE Sense HD build
The way to push this fix to your device is as follows:
Insert SDcard in computer (through mobile or cardreader)
In the camfix file youll find 3 folders (you can download in the first post)
Ignore meta-inf
Copy the file HTCCamerpa.apk from sd-ext/app_s to your sdcard in the folder:
sdcard/android/root/system/apps
If the folder does not exicst, creat it!
Then copy the contents of the system folder (all of them) to Sdcard/android/root/system
After this reboot your device
WARNING! You are doing this at your own risk!
This "fix" creates graphic glitches on the screen!
Make a BACKUP!!
Camera DOES work
Camcorder DOESN'T WORK!
Goodluck!

Just tested the files using the root folder method and it DOES seem to work very well on the HD2.
I'm using it on mdeejay's Froyo HD 3.7. I'm able to take pictures with a working flash(no green tint). The only downside I'm seeing is that it creates a glitchy affect where horizontal lines appear randomly(but consistently) on different parts of the screen unless there is motion on the screen.
I'm going to modify mdeejay's build and cook the files into the build and test from a clean install and report back if the glitch is still present afterwards.

BlueVD said:
Well, first of all, I've already released the libs and binaries in a previous post (the one with the screenshot, not the video). Right now I'm working on the framework. And it is GPL since most of the things I've done is to recompile allready published source code. What I did modify are some files needed to build the Androis Os (taken from nexus one and adapted for the bravo board), not the kernel and I'll publish them soon. Just so that you know, I'm not keeping anything under "wraps". All the work I've done so far is with the help of google, readme files and comments on xda. Guess than in short it's something in the borderlines of RTFM. The framework is the toughest sob but with the subtle hint from ownhere I'm making some advances here also. I don't want to give false hope, but a release should come soon. It's moving slowly because of my job and the sleep depravation not to mention my old laptop running a dozen tasks and a VM.
Keep you posted on my progress.
PS: video recording might not be able to record sound in the first release (since there's somewhat of a rush to get the photo capabilities). The audio part of the framework will take some serious modding.

Ok folks, another status update: had 3 frameworks so far, 2 fc'd and one didn't do anything at all. Right now I'm having one of my servers reinstalled in order to compile android to produce a custom framework. This one will be compiled with all the required stuff in it so it should work. As to sound recording in the video, chances are we're getting it too! It will take a few more hours to get the framework compiled, but please bear with me.

#4 - New update
BlueVD said:
..... It's the sourcecode for android and I'd have to be darn stupid to post it once again since google took care of that. People can get their source code from there. And as a refference, all mods were done on the nexus files that came with it since desire shares most of the hardware. Geez folks, if you would know a bit of programming you would know that. And since you don't know programming why the heck do you ask for them? Sorry if I sound harsh, but these past few days I barely got 2 hours of sleep per night and all I'm chewing at is the camera, even at work. Have patience, redoing the framework takes some time. Trust me when I say that I'm doing everything humanly possible to get the fix as soon as possible. And if any dev wants to get the files I moded, he can PM me.
And stop posting friggin comments that have nothing to do with devel stuff! Makes it hard for me and the other devs keep track of stuff.
PS: let me make this clear, the existing framework is compiled with different drivers so to say. And the only way to change that is to modify it. I'm compiling a new one to get all the right values for the cam part and patch the existing one since the framework for a nexus would be incompatible with the one needed by SenseHD. If it were as easy as fooling around with a hex editor I would have done it already. And keep in mind that this is my first clash ever with android code. Besides doing the work I also need to learn a lot of stuff on the go! These being said I hope I won't have to read any more mindless posts. And yeah, if any other dev wants to do this step in my place, do tell. I'd be more than happy to give you all I have (and that is sidenotes! Cause the code is already available online). This way I'd finally be able to take a good night sleep
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
[EDIT]: there's no front camera on the Desire Hd/Z. But HTC added the code for one. All I can presume is that they have one with SenseUI2 but no news of that phone leaked yet. Though it would seem sloppy of HTC to make such a silly mistake
Ive jusr noticed that the user asking for the sourcecode was neophyte. Mate, all I did was copy the vision files that came with the official source of android, comment out some lines related to the colors of the trackball and pull the proprietary files out of my desire. That's how the libs got done. All of this know-how came from xda forums. Like I said, there's no special voodoo I'm doing. As for the files, I'll get them online if you think it helps (but it doesn't since they only help with the making of the libs and those are already done and working).

Ok, here are the files needed to build the libs and the framework with the correct interrupts. Hope you guys will be happy with them (like I said before I just copied the whole nexus one files and named them/modified them to suit bravo).
http://wbss.ro/android/device_htc.tar.gz
Prerequisites:
1) A linux machine with a x64 distro (I recommend ubuntu 10.10, even if Canonical said it's not all that stable. Also Mandriva 64 bit should do. I run these 2 distros and both seem to work) OR a windows machine that has a case sensitive FS/Partition (I never herd of such a thing, so I recommend linux)
2) 6GB free space
3) a lot of time
Steps:
1) get the android source (see http://source.android.com/source/download.html )
2) download the file I provided above and extract it into ~/devices/htc (~ represents the root of the sourcecode folder for android)
3) just build the thing. (make -j2 TARGET_PRODUCT=htc_bravo)
At the end of the build you'll find the libs and whatever else you would require... Happy compiling time to you all.

OK people, I will keep my english plain:
WHEN a flashable zip will be ready I will say it in BOLD that you can flash it via recovery. Until then, NO, THERE IS NO FLASHABLE ZIP.
And I'm not yelling, just pointing out what should be obvious.
And now, a requst for someone that has a HTC Leo with gauner1986's HD Rom:
BACKUP the files you will replace first!!! Otherwise you'll have to extract them from your ROM to put them back!
Download the following file http://wbss.ro/android/Bravo_Sensehd_workingCameraLibsAndBinaries.zip and upload the *.so files (via ADB with the phone in recovery) to /system/lib
After that upload the rest of the files (the ones without extension) to /system/bin
Reboot the phone, open your favorite console and run as root (and landscape mode, that it keep the phone upright):
Code:
awb_camera
I need to know if it outputs some text (like camera calibration status, etc). If it does, you should see a camera viewport in the upper left corner of the display. If you don't, just swipe your finger across the display and you should see some flicker in the upper left corner. If it does, good news: owners of LEO will get the camera fix as soon as the Desire one gets it.
PS: I've got a seminar coming this weekend... Hopefully, I'll finish the fix by tomorrow evening, if not, it's up till monday

Hi all,
I'm new to this forum, and yet i already see countless posts of people asking how could they make their phone faster, what is the best rom and such...
This thread is for those who would wanna speed up their phone by sticking to stock, those who want to change a bit of here and there yet still want stock, noobies who are afraid of flashing kernel or roms and alike.(I'm a noobies myself, so this should't be a problem to everyone else)
Remember that I take no credits in all of the tweaks, but feeling the need to compile it all together so that it could make it easy for others, please say thanks to developer who created all this in the very first place and donate to them if possible.
And always read the OP carefully...
By this point, I'm assuming your phone is rooted with xrecovery enable, and if not,go here,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=928343
Now that you have stock,I know it is killing you because it is so laggy.
First thing I would suggest you to do is transfer whatever app you can to sd card(keep in mind that any apps with active widget most likely will not be working if this is done)......unless you have Link2sd installed or won't mind installing another app(big thanks to Gregbradley)
Secondly,Install Titanium Backup, you can get it from the market, and start deleting/uninstall apps that come with stock that you think useless, see thread below for what apps is safe to uninstall....and then start considering whether these apps worth being there or not....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1193004
After done with all that, now apply FPS uncapped by zdzihu via xrecovery,
link below,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192867
By this point, you will already notice huge smoothness with the phone, almost as if you bought a new one
There is also another tweak by zdzihu that i recommend such as Bravia Engine.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1193274&page=3
Now that your phone is so smooth, you will probably fancy all the status switch that comes with custom rom,and you don't have in stock, and you feel uneasy...don't worry because it is here, with stock look!
Head to link below...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1293738
Last but not least, stock battery on our notification window is not so useful(if not useless)...Circle battery bar looks good and yet useful, here is the link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1194266
along the journey,I notice that after applying fps uncap,my phone works beautifully, but there is one flaw, which, during charging, when i flick between home screen(but not happening when the battery is fully charge),it will move funny(maybe this is just me),however, when I flash the Circle battery mod,it is gone,so instead of my battery sign looks good,it is also accidently fix the funny flick during charging.....
All the tweaks applied above work beautifully with each other,(I'm using it right now for quite a while and no issues at all!),somehow, I held no responsibility if you brick your phone(seriously,I doubt this can happen).
And now download your favorite launcher and start making it look the way you want it.Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, and do not hesitate to ask me if there is anything arise and I will help where I can...

If you use link2sd you can move all apps to the sd card and still use widgets on the homescreen. Its far better than just using the native move to sd.
Just flash this to get it working
http://www.mediafire.com/?7w9v9eptjcieh
Secondly, if you use the grey circle battery mod, dont forget that has been cooked using wolfs framework-res.apk. Very similar to stock but not 100% stock so there "may" be other UI differences and glitches. (I know you said you are using it fine, but its optimised for stock rom, far better to cook your own at http://uot.dakra.lt/)

read the link about it,
Basicaly stock x10 has the frames per second (fps) capped at 33.
This tweak gets rid of that cap. All custom roms use it (I think, I cant beleive anyone wouldnt put it in a custom rom)

GO Launcher is a rather "heavy" app and, take my word for it, not "well-written". BUT it mostly performs very well and it's the most good-looking and customisable option available. I use it on both my X10 and my Arc and I wouldn't change it for any other atm.

Really? I've never tried it. I just looked at the Sony Home and its using 36+ megs and 5.8% of total cpu, ADW ex is about the same. So I wouldn't think it would be much more resource hungry than them would it?

Depends very much on the amount of widgets you use.
I use only 3 widgets and GO takes up 9,4 MB of RAM. Battery Stats has it most of the time at around 5th place in CPU Process counter, which is acceptable for me.

I have 7 active widgets running 24/7,and I don't have battery stats to measure mine, but it's usage doesn't even get in the list of battery consumption(unless I'm looking at it wrongly)
And along with this,a proof of my phone will last for 2 days on moderate use with this tweaks(it is not yet 2 days, but not even 50% used for almost one full day)
@op wonderful and simple guide to improving stock without changing Rom. I would love to see experienced members expand on this so as we could also have some simple add-ons (eg, I always flash Doomlords battery charge icon zip on stock roms)
Also would be excellent to have a basic improved build.prop and a handful of basic initd scripts.

fair question Greg,
The point is perhaps that some users would like to stay with stock and just tinker with tweaks. If people wish to flash a custom ROM that is fine, but as the OP suggests this is to "clean-up" a stock ROM.
Also, copying tweaks from a ROM does not mean they will work, often tweaks are built between a number of files (install recovery.sh/build.prop/innitD) and newer users are not sure on how to create scripts that will work/execute properly. **
My suggestion is that experienced users suggest which scripts to use (supercharger/loopysmoothness/etc) and how to apply then so that they run correctly (lines needed to be added to build, permissions on script/file/whatever!)
** I certainly struggle with the amount of information out there!

I agree, but where do you draw the line. Someone will be happy with complete stock. SOmeone else will say that stock with fps uncap is perfect for them, others will want to implememt OC/UC/UV as well to make it perfect for them, others will want to use link2sd, so will need the tweak for that, others will want....always others will want....
as soon as you start to tweak you are personalising. The great thing about android is you can personalise...in order to personalise you need to read up in aforum (Like this one) to see what is avaialble...but ineviatabley, someone will put all those tweaks into a rom...its far easier for noobs to flash a custom rom than to try and implement twaeks themselves, especially when a lot of tweaks mess with framework and systemui, so themes get messed with....
My best advice is to use custom roms, find what you like, then if there is anything you dont like, learn how to get rid, or if there is something you want extra, kindly ask the dev, or learn how to do it yourself.
I am a great believer in people learning for themselves...otherwise you might as well have an iphone....

I made an update to MIUI GB 2.3.7 for myself. I'm putting the ROM here in general because I'm not a developer, I'm not really going to offer too much support, just wanted to share what I ported for myself
Most of you know what stock MIUI looks like right?
What doesn't work
-NFC
-wimax (4G)
-MMS (?) -FIXED

Thank you.. kind of funny because I promised myself I wouldn't be messing with my phone as much but.... lol. I just love MIUI so much
I personally think this build is pretty damn good.
FYI- I'm using franco's GB kernel found here
I set the gov to smartassv2, IO scheduler to noop
Here is a script I made to implement some tweaks for smartassv2
Script
And here is another for voodoo colors
voodoo colors
Those zips are not flashable! Extract them and have them run at boot with ROM Toolbox
Quadrant scores dont mean much, but I thought this was purdy good
Okay so I'm loving it so far. Only issue I'm having is wifi isn't working. Also i can't find the overclock controls. Other than that its pretty nice. I was running brainmasters version but it started tweaking and I was getting alot calls where people couldn't here me. Thx again

Fix permissions solved wifi issue or maybe it just needed to be restart.... who knows. Installed froncos kernel and downloaded nstools. Everything isknow perfect. Antutu bencmarked 3333. 1300 better than stock gingerbread so its good enough for me plus miui is overall more responsive than any other rom.

The lack of support is a little frustrating but hey they do an amazing job. I just hope with miui going open source our favorite modders can get the wimax working. That's really the only downside to these roms....
Thanks for this.
I've always been a fan of MIUI since my galaxy s days. It was heartbreaking to nab a ns4g to find that there wasn't much MIUI development. I'm hopeful that there will one day be a completely stable version. In the mean time, I will definitely be rocking this one.
Would definitely try this if it was ics.

I feel the same, except when I first got my ns4g MIUI development was really steady with great support. Idk what happened but to be honest its quite disheartening
StiffSpliff and Scott951 were the only people from miui.us who actually responded to my interest in porting for our device a few months ago when the updates stopped. But any other time I would ask anyone else a question on irc or PM I was treated like an asshole so whatever lol

Love this rom
I'm trying to apply your voodoo and smartass setting through rom toolbox. I extracted the files, located and opened the files through root browser in toolbox. Then I copied content/script of each and pasted in scripter of toolbox. After past, I set both to run at boot and then reboot the phone. This is my first time using rom toolbox so I'm not sure if it worked bu when I go into nstools or setcpu the setting don't appear to have changed. Also, the voodoo color settings don't appear to have been applied. Any help is greatly appreciated and thanks in advance.
Edit:
I think I did it right. Opened script and identified setting commands. After I compared to setting, they all check out. I assume the numbers you hit were bc of OC/ liveOC.

I've never experienced gb personally. Went straight from froyo to ics as I bought my ns4g pre rooted. Mostly why I'm reluctant to flash this in the first place.
Despite really wanting to try miui. As I've only found out about it last week. From seeing the SwAT port and how good it looked.
If the mms problem gets fixed, I'll jump ship and flash. As mms is something I use frequently. But nfc and 4g, not so much.
And if I don't like it, that's what nandroid backups are for right?

I honestly don't use mms too much, but here's what I found out
You can send mms fine with the stock messaging app but can't download.
All you have to do is download a 3rd party messaging app from the market (I tested Go Sms) and you'll be able to download MMS that way. What I do is just force stop Go SMS service until I need to download a MMS, that way it's not constantly running and I only use it when I need to

Ok.. this rom is pretty nice... just about everything works... except GPS seems to, but doesn't.. icon comes on.. but no lock... and stock keyboard craps out while trying to type... easy fix was TouchPal keyboard..now.. one revolutionary break through I am noticing.... Skype with a Bluetooth headset... does not work on any rom I've tried... making me think it's a hardware issue... well.. on this rom.. Bluetooth pairs great... and in Skype... I actually get it to work doing a test diagnostic through Skype. Before.. on other roms..I did not hear any sound through the headset... or was able to use the mic..neither worked. Now.. I hear the skypecor testing service through the earpiece... but.. it sounds fast.. and like a helium voice... and when I talk to test my recording... it plays it back really slow... lol... so... all in all... I haven't tested it out talking to a human.. but I now believe it's a software issue... and could be fixed... I bought this tab to Skype... it has a great front Cam... but the stock mics are horrible.. forcing one to use a headset.. which a wired one worked fine on shellshock.. but haven't tried it on this one yet.. I just want to be able to Skype with a Bluetooth headset like I should be able to... could you please look into this? I would be most thankful, as I hate wires... lol. Rom is awesome so far..

While I would love to look into these issues, I don't have the knowledge or experience to fix these problems. I'm currently just building the most up-to-date version of CM10.1 for our tablet. If there are any patches available, I'd be happy to include a recommenced patch section.
Anything would help... it's just crazy a nice tab like this one boasting a sweet front Cam would work good with Skype straight out of the box.. but not this one.. lol.. thanks for putting it up though.. I've been wanting 4.2.2 on this..

Good job! Since you haven't modified anything WiFi is likely still broken. I haven't yet had time to look at the code but I will next week. I might collaborate with you on some solutions.
I'd also reconsider not looking at the 3.8 kernel source. While I dislike them as much as the next guy for acting like spoilt children they are at least playing by the rules now. We could benefit a lot from working together again.
Wi-Fi works fine... see my first post.

No, I'm an asshole. There's a difference. Oh, dual core. That's like saying both a 6502 and a Pentium 4 are both single core. While true, you don't see me running Linux on my NES. If you don't want to run this ROM (which you didn't pay for, and aren't obliged to use), then don't run it. I give no ****s.

6502 introduced 1985, Pentium 4 introduced in 2000. That is a 15 year difference. This tab is just hitting two years old. Expecting a current OS to run on it and run decently (which it does) is not an unreasonable expectation. Is my Nexus 4 speedier and smoother than this tab? Yes it is. Is there a big difference in performance? Nope, not really.
You are thinking exactly the way the hardware manufacturers want you to think! That there should be no expectation that hardware more than 6 months gets upgraded to the latest OS.
Another thing to fix... Skype with a WIRED headset only works for hearing.. no mic..even with a wired headset. This is a very smooth rom worth some tweaking... if I knew how, I'd be tweaking my ass off.. lol

I'm still on the same nightlie..haven't moved to the 19th yet.. but realized GPS is now working... earlier I was on Wi-Fi tether from my Verizon S3.. now I'm tethering to a Verizon USB modem.. so I don't know why.. but it fixed itself... lol

Introduction
What is the Xperia SP? Why do we have it? Many users have ditched their old phones to get the Xperia SP because of it's unique illumination bar. Many people i know in person have got the SP instead of the Z3 or other Z phones because of it's unique feature that stands out among all the other Android phones on the market:good:. But something went wrong when Sony decided to abandon our beloved Xperia SP after updating it from JellyBean to JellyBean... :crying:
Lollipop... we have made it so far in the development chain for Android without Sony's official ROM, we have even achieved a stable KitKat source from Cyanogenmod, amazing! . BUT most of us still dread in the inside when listening to music on our device, the illumination bar doesnt light up. I have tested many ROMs here on xda and only one or two AOSP ROMs could successfully support the illumination bar for music. I have met many people who have never left stock ROM because of this. It is a shame thinking that the works of many great developers such as MrSteve555, Furrydaus, Bagyusz (and much more!) are ignored because of this problem which has been ignored in many AOSP ROMs. Personally, the illumination issue does annoy me because that is the main reason i got the SP, but i also want to contribute to helping AOSP developers.
What We Can Do
We will need every developer to try and get the illumination API to support their ROM and maybe even support their stock music player (regardless if its Walkman or not). OR we could make a music player with the API which can support Lollipop 5.x and Kitkat 4.4.x :highfive:

I just remembered, for some users especially for KitKat and JellyBean users, Discolight is a good app on xda (if you Google "discolight apk", you'll find it). What it does is, you can enable a music beat function to apps that is not walkman like spotify and youtube , etc. And the illumination bar will still work when the screen is locked. Go check it out.
What I want to see is an updated version of that app for lollipop. (that app has been abandoned but works perfectly)
Try this for now http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/led-music-effect-rooted-device-t3053295

I have tried that and here are the problems with it:
1. It is loaded with bugs
2. Its 2.3+ which means its unstable in 4.4 (I have tested it) and it definitely doesn't work for lollipop
3. Its no longer supported
4. Its not an SP exclusive, which means it could be faulty.
U-Disco Pro is good when considering getting the illumination to work, but its a paid app
This problem however can only be solved by creating a new music player. Another possible solution is to have the existing music players to implement the illumination API into their app thus enabling support for our and some other Sony devices. For the ROM, the developer can port over the necessary libraries to make sure the illumination works out of the box. Or the user themselves can download this one "service" apk that handle illumination.
You can fork Apollo and add the illumination API though. However, of course, this will require Java programming knowledge, in which I don't know of.

I did mention all of what you said above in the first post. I think I will have to take the initiative and add the illumination to walkman or Apollo or the "music" app from CM12 to get it to work on Lollipop and hopefully on KitKat.
I'll try to learn how to do this... Or is there a user who could step forward and mod an apk? This would be greatly appreciated. Let me know here if you wish to contribute to the project and I will PM you so we can discuss about the course of action

Well I would, but I have already mentioned before that I am lacking Java knowledge. In fact, I know nothing about Java programming
If you indeed want to learn, I just want to tell you that it might be a long way for you. It isn't easy to do coding, you know.. I am not scaring you or what, I just want to tell you so. I really wish good luck if you chose to learn programming!
If you wish, you might want to create a new thread in the General Android forum board that refers to this thread. In that way, maybe some other people can help us as well

Yeah that would be a great idea but first I'll check with people I know. Most people in my family know programming. If that doesn't work out, I'll be going to the general android forum, thanks for the suggestion

No problem. I hope someone can help achieving this beautiful thing for our beloved XSP. Thank you for starting the motivation too!
Why don't you just use U Disco? The Pro version only costs a few dollars.

Because we shouldn't be paying for things that came built into our phone, its what we already paid for. A problem with U-Disco is, if you turn on the "coloured beat function", the app will be open at all times in the background and there is an annoying notification. Sometimes the whole app bugs out and it would take a while to get it back working again.
Here's the big problem: its no linger updated, therefore there is no lollipop support (yet). Until then I'm going to focus on an AOSP player exclusive for the SP which has the same features as walkman (hopefully)

That would make sense if it didn't work properly for the stock ROM, but these are third party ROM's we're talking about. These are made by the community and are in no way endorsed by the manufacturer. Besides, U Disco has more features than the stock light effects.

It needs to run in the background to work

I'm not going to disagree with this, it can be pretty temperamental.

Does it not work with Lollipop? I could've sworn it worked with ART on KitKat. Anyway, good luck with the app. It'll be nice to see a native light effect for music on KitKat.

It did work on ART with CM11 when I tried but sadly it doesn't work with Lollipop. The app does start up and all the other things like rainbow and flash strobe work... But the colour beat doesn't work . I've managed to get a modified Walkman apk to work on JB based AOSP ROMs with illumination support. After further testing, I'll release it for you guys to try
Eagerly waiting for this one.
The next test upload will take a while because I'll be testing it on Apollo. But first I'll need a person experienced with Java to.implement the API. Might take a while.

Sadly U-disco Pro no longer works for updated CM11 builds (official and unofficial, LBL and UBL) and CM based ROMs . New ROMs don't work with U-disco either. definitely doesn't work on lollipop ? Roms
Is U-disco working for any of you on an updated build of CM11?

Working fine for me, CM11 Official Nightlies here, with ART enabled too. Mind you, I'm no longer running the latest build.

Are those official nightlies?
Try going onto the latest build and test it.

Yep, they're the Official Nightlies. I'll update to the latest build later and update this post when I test it.
Edit: Tested and working on the latest Nightlies, ART runtime. But what I find weird about U Disco is that when I set the audio source to the speaker and open a music player, the light strip does absolutely nothing; when I do the same thing with YouTube, it works perfectly. It's always been like this for me, just thought that you might find it helpful.
Install this before and then enjoy U-Disco
