[HOWTO] Get the Samsung Gift of free ebooks on a AOSP rom. - Galaxy S II General

I just thought people might like to know that Samsungs newest promotion of getting a free ebook every month using "Kindle for Samsung" is possible on a AOSP rom. I successfully got it working on Omnirom (Kitkat)
All you have to do is get a hold of two apk's com.amazon.kindlefs and samsungservice
I got the first one by searching Google and someone posted a link to it in a comments section (I lost the link though so you will have to find it)
You should also be able to extract it from a stock based phone that got it the right way from "Samsung Apps"
Then for it to work right and let you get the free book you also need the "Samsung Account" app which is just samsungservice.apk. Easy to get from any rom or search xda I found the apk it self without having to download a full rom.
Installing both of those was enough and I got my first book free.

Hello,
thanks a lot.
I asked about this on Q&A.

Due to request. Here is where I found the kindlefs apk (in the comments)

update app without user interaction

Hi all
I would like to know if it's possible to update a third party application without user action.
I noted that the android market can self-update the installed apps. The user is not asked about an acknowledgment.
I don't want to offer my self-coded app in the market. I found a way to update this app from my homepage, but the user must this affirm.
you could make a service that runs when the phone boots up that checks whether a new version exists, and if it does it downloads it.

thanks for your help.
That's not the problem. The download and the install works fine. All I want is to get rid of the dialog asking the user whether he want to update or not.
sorry ignore, misread the question

my application is not available on the market. it's a business applikation only used by our company. therefore i don't want to upload it to the market.
oh I get you. I know it must be possible because like you said the market can do it, but I don't know how, sorry.
ill do some digging and see what I can find.

Android Banking

Hello!
I'm really sorry, I'm asking here because don't know where to ask.
Few months ago I've bought on the Market Android Banking app. It was pooled from the Market. Right know I can't find it seems like it is not here anymore. Tried to contact developer he is not answering too.
Who can give me advice what to do? May be somebody have last version of that app 4.5.1
Can somebody help me? Or it is not worth it?
i have no idea but alot of banks have their own apps, like chase and etc.
You can always google android banking .apk (or whatever the name of the app is) and you should be able to find it like that. Find the apk file download from phone and install. Make sure you have install from unknown sources checked in your settings. Or download apk from computer and transfer to your sd card and install from there. Hope this helps!
Edit... also mobile banking applications are proven to not be that safe so at the least make sure you also download android firewall to make your information a little more secure. Remember though android phones are known to be very easily hacked into!!!!

Maybe its just me, but I would be very skeptical of any generic "banking" app, especially one that has now been pulled from the market. I would not touch it with a 100 ft pole...

VirginMedia UK

Has anyone got the Galaxy S3 on Virgin UK?
I rooted mine and installed a new rom without making a backup first
The rom/phone is working perfectly, however I lost the Mobile Rescue APP
Has anyone got either a copy of the original rom, or the rescue app?
I need to have it installed or my insurance is invalidated

full screen ads on xda?

I don't know if xda has been hacked or if it's something they have agreed to but over the last few weeks anytime I come to this site I get bombarded by ads full screen ones sometimes that force me to either download or go to another site including that dam mobogenie, I kept thinking it must be an app I've downloaded or some kind of malware but after a couple of full wipes including formatting my internal and external as soon as come back to this site it starts again I've tried other sites and the ads don't appear it only happens when I come here! I was wanting to know if this is happening to anyone else or if it's just me? I've also tried different roms but it has the same out come any help with this will be greatly appreciated.
TThanks in advance.
No problem here.

Hi there,
If you copy your post into the following thread, the admins will be able to notice it - Intrusive ads? Post here!.
Other members have been moaning about mobogenie ads as well recently though, so it's definitely not just you

hi ,
yes, i had similar experience, many months back, when i used the relevant free version.of app.
i also found this to happenned on a another very" popular" twitter app ( free ) i had. .
the pop up ad was full page and you could only close it by clicking on x,( in the ad top right corner of ad )
and appeared sometimes even if i had exited, the app.!!
i know it was these apps, as it happened on my then , Note 2 stock rom ( i now have Note 3 ) and Note 8.0 stock rom ,whenever i used the apps ..!!
i unticked "notifications in relevant app ////settings ..application manager ,but it did not help .!!
i uninstalled and it was gone !
i had sinced move on ,and now have the paid version of said apps !! No problems !!
i bought it because i wanted the premiun versions and not because i was " bullied " into it ..!!
i don't mind if app have " Ads "and it is placed discreetly !
but this" full blown ad tactic" ,is low down amateurish and childish !!
i will uninstall it if i was you.!
good luck
Use traptalk app. Much better than xda app and is free. Use Adblock
It used to happen to me add well so I just use tapatalk now. Solved ?

Splurge the 60pence or whatever it is for the premium phone app Or use Tapatalk. -- Not had the issue myself.
I was talking about on the browser by the way... Never used xda app

Its happening on the browser not the app sorry I thought I said that, it happens every time I come to this site using the Samsung browser or dolphin. It only happens here though when I move to a different page it stops it only started about 3 weeks ago I think, it hasn't been long. I have tapatalk and the xda app but hardly use them, maybe should start huh! I've been told to try chrome with adblock so I'm hoping that will fix it permanently! Thank you for all the suggestions I do really appreciate it.

Thank you I will do.
EDIT; I was contacted by a moderator I guess and was told there is an issue with full screen ads but it should be solved in a couple of days. Just glad I found out it wasn't just me!

How to get some free apps from GPlay without root.

Have you ever wanted to get an awesome free app from Google Play on the HDX but you just don't have root? Well that is actually easier than you might think at first. I hope this will be useful, personally I use this trick a lot.
1.) Go to the google play store on the web and choose a free app (it only works with free apps)
2.) copy the URL and paste it in the search bar of the following website:
apps.evozi.com/apk-downloader/
3.) click generate download link.
4.) choose which app you want to download the apk with.
5.) then click open file, and then hit install.
6.) Play the game!
I use this trick to download stuff that isn't on the Amazon market but is free, like the Buzz launcher and other games. I hope this helped someone, and thanks.
I think most of the xda users will know how to do similar things, but maybe there is a new guy out there who doesn't. like me half a year ago!
Good to know... I've been able to use 3rd party stores for everything I've needed so far

Cool, thanks man.Never thought of that, but I never had an advanced phone- no need. For my uses a nokia brick is good enough.
Or just sideload 1mobile market. no root needed for it to work just for the apps it cna download that need root just like normal playstore it has all the free apps that google play does. I assume its similar to those apk downloaders out there but just does it on the device and in an interface that works well and even allows searching and the like.
