[Q] Can turn off wireless - it's turning itself on instantly again - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Yep, I'm serious. All the entries I found online are from people who cannot turn their WLAN ON, but mine won't stay off no more.
Not even a second after turning it off, the slider turns itself to the "on" position again.
If I put it in airplane mode, I get the same result: Off for a moment, then back on.
It's driving me nuts!
I already wiped the phone, went back to stock rom and installed CM again, but the problem persists.
Right now there is CM11-20140405-SNAPSHOT-M5-mako installed, Build-number 4.4.2 KVT49L.
You'll find a screenshot of all the details attached.
Thank you in advance for your suggestions!

try downgrande with nexus tool kit go to back 4.2.2

I guess this would solve the problem, but I was hoping for something less radical. Did you hear about this behavior before?
Right now I'm downloading the latest nightly, to see if it helps.
EDIT: The latest nightly didn't help.

I just realised that I forgot the screenshot and XDA doesen't allow noops to post links. Sorry about that. Please ask, if I you need to know any further details, like kernel, etc.

[Q] Lollipop WiFi issues - takes long time to turn on or not turning on at all

I had CM11 on my Nexus 4 and did a full wipe, then flashed the official Lollipop image (using flash-all.sh script). The process went smooth, without any problems.
Now, I am having WiFi issues. When I turn on WiFi from quick settings it changes the icon, but doesn't connect to the network yet. If I try to access WiFi settings it opens them up, but I can see only the actionbar and a blank white screen. No networks shown. Sometimes I even get "The app is not responding dialog". It sits like this for about 30-60 seconds and after that it connects to the network and I am able to access WiFi settings.
Sometimes I can't turn WiFi on at all. Quick settings don't change the WiFi icon to the ON state. If I try to turn it on from the Settings, the switch does literally nothing - not even "Turning WiFi on..." shows up.
I tried to reflash the system - still get these issues. Tried reflashing just the radio module - didn't fix it. No idea what to do. KitKat worked just fine.
Does anyone else have similar problems?
Same issues, but on a Nexus 10.
I have exactly the same issues as you, but on a Nexus 10. Running LRX21P 5.0 Lollipop.

I used Wugfresh 1.9.6
Downloaded and installed LRX21T
Did a complete wipe (cache and factory reset)
Did a selective restore of ~75 apps from Google backup
Played with the machine for hours.
Rebooted, now got no wifi
Anyone suggest a workaround?
EDIT: I came across this post in the Nexus 5 Thread , where he suggests changing your router's channel to something below 12. I changed mine from 13 to 8 and now wifi seems to be working.
EDIT2: Sadly the above was a red herring. The problem seems more complex. Hopefully Google will release a fix soon

I don't think my problem depends on the available WiFi networks. But thanks for the response.
I have the exact same issues, Wifi doesn't turn on at all. It doesn't matter if I press the quick settings button or the button in the menu. It says Wifi on, but nothing happens. After the screen goes dark, Wifi turned itself off again.
Any suggestions? Thank you!

I'm having the exact same issue. Wiped with ADB and flashed LRX21T factory image from Google's website. No error codes during flash.
Wifi is great - if you leave it on all the time. As soon as it turns off, it will NOT turn on. I get no error message, no timeout like it usually does when Wifi isn't working properly, no crash report. Nothing. Just a stalled Wifi acting like it's turning on. If I exit Wifi settings page, and come back, it shows as being off. Turn it on, and it just hangs the same way.
So frustrating.
It's for sure not the network I'm on, as it also doesn't turn on when I'm not near Wifi, or when I'm at a friend's house. Rebooting the phones makes the Wifi work again...until it turns off for ANY reason. Then we're back at square 1.
I'm having this same issue...
My WiFi seems to turn itself off. Then there is no way I can get it to turn back on unless I reboot the phone.
Very frustrating.
I have the same issue.I sideloaded the OTA and everything went great,no errors during the installation.I was on stock 4.4.4.
When I turn on the Wifi it takes around 30 sec to connect to a network. If i click on the Wifi menu in the setting it usually freezes or I get a black screen. After that Wifi works fine, but another thing I noticed it doesn't remember new networks.I don't know if a factory reset would help...
Anyone find a solution yet? Did a factory reset eliminate the problem for somebody?
I got the same thing. Currently, I'm using Power Toggles to do the on/off setting.

Are you saying that Power Toggles fix the problem?
I'm facing a different issue. Whether I have WiFi on or off, it always appears active in the battery usage stats ('scanning always available' is off)
WiFi was off when the screen was off from about 3 am to 2 pm.

I am having the same issue. very frustrating. it was working perfectly last night on my home network, but now it wont connect to my work network. it has the same issues as everyone else. the wifi toggle will turn on, but it will not show any networks. then after a couple of seconds it will turn itself off.
^^i am having that issue as well. the battery usage stat page is showing wifi as on even though it is off.
Have the same issue. After some standby time, turning Wifi on again, it showed me networks where I am not close to anymore and didn't show me the actual networks where I am right now. This seems to be a serious bug that needs fixing. I don't want to reboot my phone to fix it. Didn't Google delayed the Lollipop-Update because of some Wifi issues?
I have all the symptoms listed in this thread. I filed a bug report too: https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=80028&q=LRX21T
Found this thread when this problem popped up for me after flashing the factory images one by one. Might try to find a source-built ROM using a later version to see if it got fixed.

readings logs - randomly turning off Nexus 4

Hi,
I have a problem, i had android 4.3 and one day my nexus turned off. Now also randomly turns off. I thought it was an application, but I did the factory settings and I updated to version 5.0.1, but the problem is all the time.
I used logcat to see what turns off the phone, but I do not understand .. While debugging, I ran a few applications, wifi, mozilla, etc. and suddenly the phone turned off.
I put the logs, if anyone can help me out and tell me what is the reason for shutdown?
Thank you

[Q] Screen flashes on unlock (lollipop)

I tried searching if this happens to anybody else, but couldn't find it. Since I updated to lollipop (I put original polish rom first via odin) whenever my auto brightness is turned on, when I wake the phone using home key or power button, my screen turns on with full brightness for a half second or something like that, and than goes back to normal.... I thought it was a bug on polish ROM, so I flashed austrian rom, but no improvement. Now I have custom TW rom, and it is still the same. When I turn auto brightness off, it doesn't happen. So I suspect it to be that screen turns before the light sensor on unlock, and it is set to full brightness always. is there some file I can edit, so screen starts at lowest brightness or delay screen start for half a second so the sensor can start first.
It is killing me when I get a message while sleeping in a dark room, and I want to check it, it blinds me so I wake up, and can't go back to sleep later!!!
LOL I have the same problem, which is extremely irritating to say the least, but I had no idea that it had to do with auto brightness! I am on latest AryaMod, which is stock TW based ROM, so I guess its a problem of all the TW releases?
Don't know! I will ask this in AryaMod topic and see whether dev will be more than kind to provide us a solution. Thanks for creating the topic, I had thought about it a lot of times, but was never intrigued enough.

Wi-fi is bricked

Ok, so my phone has this problem where it keeps turning on and off randomly, which I think is now known is an issue with some LG G2's and you know I hate it but I guesss I can live with it. Even though if any of you have a solution for that please tell me. But now one time when it turned off and then powered back on, the wifi stopped working. I don't mean my network, I mean the actual wifi on my phone. When I scroll down my notification bar, the wifi logo is grey but it's flashing, like it usually does when you turn it on, but it doesn't turn blue. When I got to the wifi section on my setting, the on and off switch is greyed out (but faintly blue, even though you can't touch it), and when I tap on the wifi section itself, it just says "wifi turning on.." HELP PLEASE

re flash the rom. i have things happened like that before, wiping all and flashing another rom fix, or go back to stock, sometimes the options settings are grey out. that fixes it.

what the hell is going on? video included.

Hey friends,
Since a few weeks my WiFi is acting up. Not the connection but when I try to turn it off it keeps turning on and off all by itself as by the hand of a ghost.
When I interrupt the on off loop manually by tapping the switch it will stay on but as soon as I turn it on again it starts Alternating between on and off.
Please see the video https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9a6C2ppGHVGVHhLM0x5R2U3RUE/view?usp=drivesdk
I flashed superman Rom again (clean install) still the same problem.
Thanks for your help
Its the WiFi scanning feature. You can disable it in location settings. on 7.0 its under the "improve accuracy" setting.
Thanks for your response.
I don't have 7.0
It makes no sense that I can't turn off or on the my WiFi
I checked, so want help. As soon as I turn wifi off it will start looping on off on off..

its same on 6.0. just check you location settings
Doesn't look like a feature but a bug of the phone.
I tried it and it worked! Thanks so much for your help.
But it's still strange that it would constantly do that in very short intervals..
