what the hell is going on? video included. - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

Hey friends,
Since a few weeks my WiFi is acting up. Not the connection but when I try to turn it off it keeps turning on and off all by itself as by the hand of a ghost.
When I interrupt the on off loop manually by tapping the switch it will stay on but as soon as I turn it on again it starts Alternating between on and off.
Please see the video https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9a6C2ppGHVGVHhLM0x5R2U3RUE/view?usp=drivesdk
I flashed superman Rom again (clean install) still the same problem.
Thanks for your help

Its the WiFi scanning feature. You can disable it in location settings. on 7.0 its under the "improve accuracy" setting.

Thanks for your response.
I don't have 7.0
It makes no sense that I can't turn off or on the my WiFi

I checked, so want help. As soon as I turn wifi off it will start looping on off on off..

its same on 6.0. just check you location settings

Doesn't look like a feature but a bug of the phone.

I tried it and it worked! Thanks so much for your help.
But it's still strange that it would constantly do that in very short intervals..

[Q] Wifi always on

Hi, is there a way to keep wifi ALWAYS on?
My mom doesn't have a data plan, she doesn't need one. She spends 22 hours a day at home with a wifi connection, so I got her this phone. But the problem is that wifi automatically turns itself off after a while! She has to turn it on to get the notifications. Is there a way to always keep it on so that notifications always come through? I've tried the battery management profiles, but unless I'm doing something wrong, it doesn't work correctly!
Any ideas? Apps? Or tweaks or something?
Thanks!
NEVERMIND! FIXED IT! I couldn't find the sleep policy but now I did ^^ Thanks guys!
OK, NEVERMIND! It's STILL not working! I got the policy to ALWAYS ON, but after a little bit the wifi connection disconnects! I went through the battery saving profiles as well, and same thing. Is there an application or a setting I can use to fix this?
Thanks!
you can try "soft locker" apps in market to keep your phone not "100%" sleep when the display turned off . .

I'll give it a try. What about any of those battery saving apps? The ones that auto turn on / off your wifi and 3G based on time. Do you think any of those could also work? I wrote Motorola and let's see what they say.
Thanks though I"ll give it a try today

[Bug?] Wifi won't stay disabled.

So I've noticed this problem with my SGS3. When I drive into work, I turn off the wifi radio (or whatever the term is) before heading out. As I am driving down the road, the status bar will suddenly show the wifi network discovered icon, so I go into settings and see that Wifi has been enabled again. WTF.
Anyone else having this issue? I don't want my phone constantly scanning for wifi access points and turning on my wifi radio when I have specifically disabled it. Is this a known issue?

Yes, and I should have put that in the thread title. Thanks.
I actually turn that option off but it seems that the battery wouldn't last me as long when it was on.
DUDE I've been wondering the same thing.
i keep thinking maybe its me hitting it by mistake but its def turning itself on

[Q] Lollipop WiFi issues - takes long time to turn on or not turning on at all

I had CM11 on my Nexus 4 and did a full wipe, then flashed the official Lollipop image (using flash-all.sh script). The process went smooth, without any problems.
Now, I am having WiFi issues. When I turn on WiFi from quick settings it changes the icon, but doesn't connect to the network yet. If I try to access WiFi settings it opens them up, but I can see only the actionbar and a blank white screen. No networks shown. Sometimes I even get "The app is not responding dialog". It sits like this for about 30-60 seconds and after that it connects to the network and I am able to access WiFi settings.
Sometimes I can't turn WiFi on at all. Quick settings don't change the WiFi icon to the ON state. If I try to turn it on from the Settings, the switch does literally nothing - not even "Turning WiFi on..." shows up.
I tried to reflash the system - still get these issues. Tried reflashing just the radio module - didn't fix it. No idea what to do. KitKat worked just fine.
Does anyone else have similar problems?
Same issues, but on a Nexus 10.
I have exactly the same issues as you, but on a Nexus 10. Running LRX21P 5.0 Lollipop.

I used Wugfresh 1.9.6
Downloaded and installed LRX21T
Did a complete wipe (cache and factory reset)
Did a selective restore of ~75 apps from Google backup
Played with the machine for hours.
Rebooted, now got no wifi
Anyone suggest a workaround?
EDIT: I came across this post in the Nexus 5 Thread , where he suggests changing your router's channel to something below 12. I changed mine from 13 to 8 and now wifi seems to be working.
EDIT2: Sadly the above was a red herring. The problem seems more complex. Hopefully Google will release a fix soon

I don't think my problem depends on the available WiFi networks. But thanks for the response.
I have the exact same issues, Wifi doesn't turn on at all. It doesn't matter if I press the quick settings button or the button in the menu. It says Wifi on, but nothing happens. After the screen goes dark, Wifi turned itself off again.
Any suggestions? Thank you!

I'm having the exact same issue. Wiped with ADB and flashed LRX21T factory image from Google's website. No error codes during flash.
Wifi is great - if you leave it on all the time. As soon as it turns off, it will NOT turn on. I get no error message, no timeout like it usually does when Wifi isn't working properly, no crash report. Nothing. Just a stalled Wifi acting like it's turning on. If I exit Wifi settings page, and come back, it shows as being off. Turn it on, and it just hangs the same way.
So frustrating.
It's for sure not the network I'm on, as it also doesn't turn on when I'm not near Wifi, or when I'm at a friend's house. Rebooting the phones makes the Wifi work again...until it turns off for ANY reason. Then we're back at square 1.
I'm having this same issue...
My WiFi seems to turn itself off. Then there is no way I can get it to turn back on unless I reboot the phone.
Very frustrating.
I have the same issue.I sideloaded the OTA and everything went great,no errors during the installation.I was on stock 4.4.4.
When I turn on the Wifi it takes around 30 sec to connect to a network. If i click on the Wifi menu in the setting it usually freezes or I get a black screen. After that Wifi works fine, but another thing I noticed it doesn't remember new networks.I don't know if a factory reset would help...
Anyone find a solution yet? Did a factory reset eliminate the problem for somebody?
I got the same thing. Currently, I'm using Power Toggles to do the on/off setting.

Are you saying that Power Toggles fix the problem?
I'm facing a different issue. Whether I have WiFi on or off, it always appears active in the battery usage stats ('scanning always available' is off)
WiFi was off when the screen was off from about 3 am to 2 pm.

I am having the same issue. very frustrating. it was working perfectly last night on my home network, but now it wont connect to my work network. it has the same issues as everyone else. the wifi toggle will turn on, but it will not show any networks. then after a couple of seconds it will turn itself off.
^^i am having that issue as well. the battery usage stat page is showing wifi as on even though it is off.
Have the same issue. After some standby time, turning Wifi on again, it showed me networks where I am not close to anymore and didn't show me the actual networks where I am right now. This seems to be a serious bug that needs fixing. I don't want to reboot my phone to fix it. Didn't Google delayed the Lollipop-Update because of some Wifi issues?
I have all the symptoms listed in this thread. I filed a bug report too: https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=80028&q=LRX21T
Found this thread when this problem popped up for me after flashing the factory images one by one. Might try to find a source-built ROM using a later version to see if it got fixed.

[Q] Why is my WiFi always on?

Why is my WiFi always on? Relevant screenshot: https://i.imgur.com/8ZI49P6.png
WiFi is manually toggled off.
WiFi scanning in Settings > Location > Advanced is turned off
I get that there are wake issues in my screenshot, but that's more likely to deal with Facebook than anything. Still doesn't explain why WiFi is always on.
Edit 31-JAN-2016: So I tried the following in my testing
Charge phone to 100%
Turn Off WiFi
Check battery screen, phone seems to show WiFi on still
Reboot
Notice that WiFi is off on the battery screen.
However maybe a minute later, it seems to "turn back on" (SEE SCREENSHOT)
Have you checked your Location scanning settings as well?
Is Wi-Fi scanning turned off there too?

I have the same problem too.
If you go into the dialer and try searching on a company does it prompt to turn on wifi scanning?
Try rebooting
Same problem here.... Reboot doesn't help.

Do you guys by any chance have any of these apps installed? I'm suspecting it has something to do with these.
My testing so far is as follows:
Turn off Wifi
See that WiFi is still on in Battery Screen
Greenify the list of apps above
See that WiFI is still on in battery screen
Reboot
WiFi no longer shows as on
I'm going to do further testing to see. This is inconclusive so far.

WiFi turning on by itself

Hi,
My H990DS has been bothering me for a couple of days as WiFi turns itself on without any kind of intervention.
Turning it off manually or having the phone restart does not help. I made sure the latest apps installed make no impact.
Playing with Developer Options made no difference.
I am ready to Factory Data reset.
Anyone experienced something similar ?
Thanks,
My 918 always shows wifi active in GSAM's graph, even when set to "Never" under the "Wifi on while inactive" option in system settings. I ended up just downloading Leandroid from the play store and setting it to disable the wifi radio, and renable it periodically to check for push messages. Seems to work fine with doze and standby time has improved.
Under settings, location, three dots top right, scanning, turn wifi scanning off. It turns back on anytime you use wifi and you manually have to turn it back off each time.
Mine (918) does this all the time. Im thinking its a 7.0 thing. There has been a few exceptions where it has stayed off. In my case I drive through a busy section in town and it constantly connects to the 20 or so open wifi spots so I turn it off. Well once I pull into the garage at home its magically back on.
Maybe something to do with networks it recognizes, Xfinity wifi wreaks havoc on it as well.
As soon as I uninstalled the latest apps, the issue disappeared. Not a single exception in 24 hours.
I suspect a Sip Client had caused the problem.

What!?
That sounds utterly horific for the battery, nevermind privacy concerns. I thankfully haven't experienced anything similar myself, but I've only ever used custom ROMs so perhaps that's the cause. But that sounds terrible.
