Hi there,
I've got my second N7100 , and it came with the JellyBean 4.3.
I recall the old good times, when the JB 4.1.2 was definitely faster....
The new mobile has never been rooted or upgraded (Knox 0x0), and I was wondering if there is any chance to succesfully downgrade it. I just did the same with a Galaxy S3 with full success and, even f I know they are two completely different devices, it lighted my hopes to do something similar with the Note too, hopefully without increasing the knox counter.
Some info from the current firm (4.3):
AP: N7100XXUEMK9
CP: N7100XXUEMJ9
CSC: N7100ITVEMK2
Downloaded firmware (4.1.2)
N7100XXDME6_N7100ITVDMF1_ITV
(it's an Italian device).
Any info, hope, recommendation?
Thanks!

As far as i'm aware there is currently no hope of downgrading the Note 2 from 4.3 Knox has it locked up tight.
I hunted for a long time after I was seriously underwhelmed by 4.3 and the best I could find was saferoot to root with out tripping knox.
But then you have the problem that The 4.3 "upgrade" locked the bootloader down even tighter so you can't install a custom recovery to flash a 4.1.2 based rom.
All that said there has been some amazing work done by Hashcode and Beastmode I think, who have got Safestrap into a working beta for at least the Verizon Note2. This means you can flash 4.3 based roms for now. (but only the verizon note2 just now...I think)
So there is a bit of hope. I'm running a non network branded Note2 so keeping my eye on how things are going over in the Verizon camp.
4.4.2 is available...why not flash that instead? Its a definite improvement over 4.3.

I'm tempted but the only way to root 4.4.2 just now WILL trip KNOX and I'm not psyched about that.
Also there's a good chance that the 4.4.2 boot loader is locked down tighter yet and we'll have to wait even longer for a work around.
I "upgraded" as soon as 4.3 was available only to find that I'd shot myself in the foot because of the change to the boot loader.
This is just personal opinion...I don't have any facts to back up the guess that the 4.4.2 boot loader is trouble...but I'm waiting for now.

Good point: I have the same feeling and fear at the same time.
Before flashing the 4.4.2 I am waiting to read some positive comments, not olny based on a "first approach" enthusiasm (please let me pass this expression).
I was wondering if any Samsung service center can do the dowgrade, perhaps using some internal software / any ther things that they can use and it is not available for us, "mere mortals" ...
Hmm it's probably something that they COULD do but I don't think that they WOULD do it.
It depends on if they have a "point and shoot" Samsung flashing tool or if they could choose what version of bootloader and firmware to use separately.
Honestly I'm guessing though.

Frist to root it. open usb debug...
this ATTACH FILE is the newest bootloader for note2 n7100..You can replace sboot.bin(find it form old rom...open it with 7zip)..
I didn't do downgrade to JB bootloader ...but.I downgrade to NA1 success...and upgrade to ND3 success.. you can have a try to downgrade bootloader.
Is it possible to downgrade nd3 bootloader?
Careful about flashing bootloaders
Don't flash anything you are not absolutely 250 % sure and wait patiently. Going up to 4.4x might block you even more without a chance to downgrade at all. Don't believe everything you read 4.4x it's a treat. .kit kat remember.

After upgraded my S4 i9500 from 4.2.2 to 4.3 XUEMJ5 via Kies, I'm having a lot of troubles regarding battery drain and overheating.
I came to the Samsung Services Center yesterday and asked them to downgrade my device back to 4.2.2, but their answer is "Sorry, we cannot do it. Once upgraded to 4.3, there is no way to reverse to 4.2" ?!?!!?!?!
Is it true? Has anybody tried to downgrade your S4 from 4.3 to 4.2
Thanks for your advice!

I had the same issue. There seems to be a problem downgrading to certain 4.2.2 roms. I eventualy managed to downgrade using the South African version (I9500XXUBMH1) . After you've flashed this, you can re-flash whichever ROM you prefer.
Give it a go and let me know.

Are you really serious? So you can downgrade from 4.3 to 4.2.2 using that firmware? What does your knox say in download mode?

Unfortunately it states:
Current Binary: Custom
System Status: Custom
Warrant Bit: 1
But it doesn't really bother me for now, until I have to send it back for repairs I guess
I'm sure the Chainfire guys will eventually be able to reset this counter as the TriangleAway is currently not supporting the GS4 I9500.
Cheers
So is there a specific way you have to flash it or do i just use odin?
Do i flash the roms back to back or what?
Hey guys so i have heard that if i install the old firmware for my s4 from sammobile using Odin one from early 2013 that it will give me access to service menu so that i can unlock my phone. So my question is that is it 100% safe to Odin flash the older 4.2.2 rom when i am on 4.3? Can i flash it unlock my phone then upgrade my phone to a custom rom again? Thank you

Do not do this. This will brick your phone. If I am not mistaken, there is a method to unlock mk2 in the general section.

You should ask this in the t mobile s4 forum. I believe your bootloader is unlocked and you can flash an older firmware version. But check there first. This is the att s4 forum. It can't be done on the at&t s4.
Is the service menu missing on the stock T-mo 4.3 ?
Nooo guys i have an unlocked bootloader i have the s4 that is very similar to the tmobile and it's the same as the Canadian versions. And yes the Canadian version which is 1337m and mine which is m919v don't have access to service menus but i have flashed a lot of custom roms simply by philz recovery so doesn't that mean i have an unlocked bootloader?

Did you ever update you device with kies or ever take an over the air update ? It's fine if you were on a stock based 4.3 rom as long as you never took an official update. If so then you can't go back. Just flashing a stock 4.3 rom won't change that status but the 4.3 bootloader would.
You would have know by checking in settings under SE

What is the difference between devices hltetmo and hltecan? I have a hltecan. Will we need CyanogenMod compiled for hltecan? I notice that recoveries have different versions for both devices. Also I am wondering about downgrading for 4.4 (when it comes) to 4.3. Is there a surefire way to upgrade and downgrade between 4.4 TW 4.4 CM and 4.3TW? I would not mind voiding my Knox counter. Just worried about being stuck or getting a brick for another 21 months on contract :silly:

I played around a bit earlier... The only firmware you can upgrade to 4.4.2 and downgrade back to 4.3 is the mexican telco one for the n900w8, however I had some issues but will play some more tomorrow when I get time. As for KNOX, it's just one of them things we have to live with I'm afraid..
EDIT: I'm gonna mess with the bootloader and see, doubt it can be matched/mixed to work with the N9005 but what's the harm in trying.

The harm in trying is a hardbrick.
Well yes there is that, however I am not overly fussed about it, as most HB's can be revived. I am aware of all the risks, so will be my fault 100% if I brick myself.

Sorry. Can't understand exactly. What exactly means what versions you can run with a new bootloader?
MJ7 is the bootloader that powers CM currently. You need a bootloader to be able to boot into the operating system. Like a key into the phone.
If you upgrade your bootloader to a newer version aka NA6 it locks the phone. Therefore anything that runs lower than NA6 aka MJ7 won't work.
Think of it like, you broke your door, you got a new door and tried to use the old key. It no long works.

hi, can you elaborate?
i always thought samsung doesn't let you downgrade to an older bootloader. but if you install CM (not samsung official updates) the bootloader doesn't get updated so you can downgrade in the future.
unless you upgrade to 4.4.2 official samsung ROM and update the bootloader, then you'll never be able to downgrade again?

Hey guys.
Quick one, is the XSA rom you can get from samobile the stock Samsung rom? As in not telstra or Optus? Like you would get if you bought unbranded from a Samsung store?
Thanks guys. Only reason I ask is that I'm trying to figure out if my Optus firmware is crappy, I'd guess it is but just need to see before I can't take it back.
Thanks again.
Search all the different AU(?) Firmwares and see, its possible XSA is the unbranded one - although saying that, I think sammobile says if its unbranded.

Thanks again guys. Might do that in the next day and see if it's this crappy rom.
Help me understand this note 3 Knox business. So, I've had nexuses and other Samsung's and I've never had the thing where I couldn't use a previous version of Android if I updated.
So is it just the bootloader we're talking about? If I updated to 4.4.2, I couldn't use anything older than that? Even just the rom?
So how would I even get a 4.4.2 rom if say the roms didn't include the bootloader? And if I did get a bootloader, is the right one? Haha.
Sorry to ask so much, just things seem different with this particular phone and the current versions of Android.
Maybe it's just the bootloader and you can't go and use an older version of Android if that's been flashed.
Couldn't you flash a stock 4.3 official rom if you wanted to go back?
Thanks in advance.

If you flash a stock KK rom it updates the bootloader. If you get the broken up KK polish rom and don't update the bootloader then KK doesn't load.
Once you update to the latest KK bootloader you CAN'T go back to JB... You will trip Knox warranty void if you try...
Argh I see.
So basically it's the bootloader. But if you root, flash custom recovery and or rom, that's going to trip knox anyway isn't it? So if you did use a earlier version of Android, you still can, it will just trip knox?
Tripping knox doesn't make your phone unusable does it? I'm sure there will be some sort of triangle away or similar that will get rid of it. What if you flash a clean bootloader? Would that clear knox? I wonder where the knox counter info is stored and if it's accessible...
Geez, making myself sound like a noob here haha. I swear I'm an experienced flasher haha.
Just making sure I understand this before I do anything. Seems a little different than normal. Everyone should understand this stuff before they do anything. Haha.
Thanks again.

Okay, sry it seems that I was a little bit wrong, the MGG build is the first 4.2.2 version with the new knox bootloader, but it is still correct that MGA is the last build with the Knox free one.
On my german sources they told that MH1 build is the first Knox version but however. Take a look at this

Knox has been introduced in Oct 2013 along with 4.3 bootloader (as far as i can remenber! one year old.....)
So your request is to come back to a 4.2.2 rom version, why? just to avoid Knox? OK I understand
But In my view you have better to flash a recent 4.4 CUSTOM rom that will preserve your legacy bootloader and will offer all the upto date features. They are many available in the dev section.
Custom Roms do not modify the boot section , so no risk to become knox pointed.
Thanks to Darker Times for his links.
