[Q] Battery Door Vibration - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have the G900W8 from Canada and I am wondering if it is just my device but whenever any sort of audio plays through the mono speaker on the back of the device the entire battery door vibrates or buzzes anyone else having this issue or should I get the device exchanged? If its a common issue has anyone found a work around to make it stop its driving me mad lol. Sorry if this was asked previously I looked through this forum and didnt see it but I could have honestly missed something.

I'd get it exchanged. Somehow, mic's vibration gets transmitted to the body of the device.

No buzzing, but I did notice that it vibrates like crazy.
Looks like it has something to do with how the watertight seal keeps the backing a few mm away from the actual back of the phone.
Make sure it's all clipped down properly.

The quick start manual actually states that due to watertight seal there are vibrations...

I use a hybrid case. A perk it has is it dampens the vibration a good deal.

Epic speaker defect?

I've noticed that I'll hear a weird vibration noise if I increase the volume over a certain amount in call. I fixed it at some point by inserting and removing the headset but it returned once I changed the volume again. Has anyone else experienced this? This is on the normal speaker not the back one for speaker phone.
Mine has always done it. Kind of sounds like a slightly blown speaker. Honestly it only does it when I turn it up louder than I would want it anyway so it doesn't bother me.
When I first got mine, it vibrated badly when the volume was anywhere over the minimum. I returned it for a new one and this current one hasn't done it once. I have read many reports about this issue all over the interwebs...there must have been a batch or two that is stricken with this issue.
Thanks, I was hoping it was a software problem but it seems it definitely is a hardware defect. I'm in the process of ordering a replacement.
I don't experience the "popping" noise when I'm on a call. Only when I've left it on the charger for awhile. I'm not not sure what exactly causes it but it's quite annoying. If I take it off the charger and let it cool off, it's fine. Not sure what the deal with that is..
It seems my replacement phone has the same issue. Did I just get unlucky or is this a problem with all Epics?
Mine does the same thing. You are talking about the earpiece, right? Sounds like theres a hair stuck in it buzzing when you are talking to someone. It's definitely something screwy with the speaker itself.

nexus 4 constant hissing and crackling sounds emitting from earpiece

Has anyone noticed this. The hissing sound is low but is extremely noticeable when placing the earpiece next to your ear. I tried turning off different apps and even tried putting it on airplane mode with all the radios off. Does not matter whether the screen is on or off, The noise does not go away unless I turn the phone completely off. After noticing this I tried listening for the hissing sound on the galaxy s3, iPhone 4s and iPhone 5, it's only present on my nexus 4. Anyone else having this issue or is it just me? My phone is rooted but I don't think that matters.

Lol thanks for the heads up. Btw I did the ota update but I don't think that should be an issue as well. So maybe I have a faulty earpiece. Too bad I can't get an exchange anytime soon.
Anyone else notice the hissing / buzzing / crackling noise or not. I wanna at least find out if this is a common issue or not.

It is. Your old phones must be hissing as well, but not as loud as nexus4...
Can you hear it 1inch away from earpiece?

I googled and found others having problems on other android devices while playing audio files when using headsets. Couldn't really find anyone mentioning the problem I'm having. I'm guessing the other issue is more prevalent?
Yes some people already mentioned this, you're not the only one.
im not sure if thats a good thing or a bad thing ? ._.

If in a quiet area, yes. I can't hear a thing on the other phones I tested, while placing the earpiece next to my ear.
Yeah i have this on my Nexus 4. Its not noticable until you stick the phone next to your ear. 2-3 inches away and you cant hear a thing.
Just checked my old S2 and discovered that this also crackles a bit, but not as loudly.
I have a hissing sound whenever the screen is on. As soon as the screen is off it disappears, not too noticeable though so don't bother me really.

I have the same isuue. Regardless of the screen state (on/off). However, it can be heard only n quiet room.
I wonder if anyone contacted google on this issue.
This issue is already being discussed here
You didn't know that the Nexus 4 ships with a live snake inside of it?
Mine has very quiet crackling sound too. Sounds like interference.
OK so I just got mine and I had a listen for this and it sounds like coil whine.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
Have it too (N4 Germany). But if someone hadn't pointed it out then I wouldn't have noticed it. It's really very quite.
I just hope it won't drain the battery or something because of some unknown process running in the background.
Please continue the discussion here.

Constant buzzing in earpiece during calls

As the title says, there's a constant static. Will changing earphones help? Or it a problem with phone itself like review sites say? Is there any solution because this static makes conversation impossible which pretty much defeats the purpose of the phone. If I get RMA will others phones also have this defect?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
Also noticed that static goes away when I cover the speaker with something.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
I have static in my earpiece with the default in call volume (which is all the way up). When I turn the volume down some I don't have it and the volume is still plenty loud. I'm not sure if it's the same noise your having.
Not sure if problem is same as yours. Noise is kinda like static which you hear in electrical interference. Something like the sound you hear from PC speaker when your phone is near it and you get a call or SMS that time. That kind of sound constant goes up and sometimes down randomly but its almost there all the time while using earpiece only, not without it. Funny thing is when I cover up the back side speaker with my hand that static goes away. Its really strange I don't know what's going on. Never had anything so irritating and unbearable on my previous galaxy s2
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
Known nexus 4 issue. If it's not loud enough, I recommend you to just keep it and ignore it. If it's really loud, try RMA. Mine also buzzes but I just ignore it. People think that it is due to poor shielding or something

I have the same problem. I will be asking for a replacement, because if people just accept it, it will never get fixed. This is a defect.
This is an old issue. One of the first since the N4 came out. I have always wondered if it is a noise cancellation feature gone bad. Like the buzzing wasn't meant to be so loud, but for one reason or another just got a little stronger than what it was supposed to be.

I think I agree with others that its a hardware issue because when I keep my hand on speaker the problem goes away. Plus I talked to a couple of people who said they had their phones replaced up to 3 times!! And still ended up with a defective piece. Very bad on googles part, I would have been happier to pay more but at least get a reliable device in return. I had my phone imported so RMA will be hell for me and even after that there is no guarantee. Just sad on googles part, just sad.

There is a haptic feed back when you press softkeys. you might be pushing them.

When you mean vibration. Do you mean in your pocket? If you get the vibration/boom feeling then that the vibrating motor. Hope this helps.
Sent from my GT-S5830 using Tapatalk 2
hey guys, its not the haptic feedback. its like it somehow 'vibrates' when I tapped it on the back of my phone.
It hasn't occured to you that it might be something to do with this at all?

it doesn't really vibrate but it kinda feels like its moving when tapped with your nails.
Yeah I have the same feeling, like its on "haptic Vibro" but thats not enabled, yet still feels like a slighter Vibrate when hitting some keys?
I think I know what he means...
Its not a feedback from the vibrator at all -- I sometimes tap on my Note when I'm listening to music, like I'm playing a drum solo with my fingers
There is a faint vibration when I do that.
I always assumed it was just one of the sensors vibrating in response to my enthusiastic taps. Who knows, the shock sensor, the vibrator itself?
Anyway, I don't think its anything wrong or broken.
I don't think there is a problem... it happened with my note 2, but always worked well and flawlessly
I get it occasionally and gave up with it.

I saw a thread on here that might help. It basically said that the camera module "vibrates" slightly when tapped. It's normal, apparently.

Hi!
A lady friend of mine has this problem on a GSIII.
She broke her screen and since i had a GSIII with dead mainboard i moved her mainboard to the other phone. Main camera & all.
The phone now works perfectly but has accuired the "vibrate when tapping" issue.
Personally i´d say that the vibrating camera module is a solid bet. Production tolerances might be a little on the loose side in the new camera/screenframe combo and there is a short unsupported flex cable from main board to camera module.
If i understand this particular issue correctly you dropped your phone a while back. This just might have knocked the camera module a bit around so it now sits a smidgeon more loosely in the camera bay.
If it really bothers you, a solution could be to disassemble your phone and try thightening the tolerances in the camera mount by adding small pieces of e.g. sticky tape on sides or bottom. If nothing else you´d be able to confirm or discard the camera module as the "culprit".
Personally though i wouldn´t worry about it, as long as everything hums along nicely with this particular handset.

Elo

hello! thanks for your long reply, this happened before I dropped my device, so I reckon it isn't because of the drop! it works flawlessly, but do you think I should take it over to Samsung? or is it not an issue?

About the drop - oh yeah, you stated that earlier, my bad.
I´d leave it alone.
If the phone is still under warranty you could try taking it to a service center but then you´ll have to demonstrate there is an issue.
As everything works as it should that might be easier said than done.

Same issue with me also the headphones make a noise in silent situations. Mine is from amazon and black and verizon. I Have done alot of reading about this as I'm within my 14 days for return it happens on alot of g3s really all of them or most anyway however to different extents and some people don't notice some do. I let a few of my friends use my phone asked after they used if they heard the sound. Some did some didn't but its there. Anyway it is not a hardware issue its a software issue lg is aware of the issue it will be fixed in 4.4.4 they claim. Also T-mobile users that have installed CM and custom 4.4.4 roms have said the issue disappeared afterwords. I cannot say this is fact however (as I haven't done this) I have seen many people say they took there device back and had it exchanged some as many as 4 times they all do it. Also the headphone issue is the same this entire issue is on the top 8 lists for cons of the g3 on alot of sites just wrote different ways. The ticking is the same thing I have extremely good hearing (I can hear a tire leak from 10ft away) and if you listen real close and turn your volume down all the way (well as low as it goes in call) so the buzz isnt as strong its also ticking
The silver lining is that lg is aware and is working on a fix this issue and the headphone issue are one in the same instead of your wording try goggle g3 hissing sound and you will find many posts about it. It sucks very bad once you notice it it will drive you insane I feel your pain.
I have a feeling as seen with my friends that people that say there phone doesnt make the noise are wrong but not intentionally. As it is a very strange pitch and low level sound some can not hear those types of sounds or it less noticeable to some. This is a long proven science theory some pitches can be heard by some and not others I believe that is what is happening. The same 2 friends that cant hear on my phone also cant hear coil whines (they happened to be with me when I got a very bad coil whining psu it was making my ears bleed they couldn't hear it.) which is what this sounds like to me anyway.
