Is your HTC M8 Camera Lens Scratched out of box?
Or does it have scratches now?
I think it doesn't it only has volume buttons moving arround lol! and a little little scratch on the bezel on the front well and a very really minimal point on the back on top on HTC logo lol! barely noticeable
My camera lens is all scratched up. Really annoying. Didn't they use some sort of crystal in the m7 to prevent scratches ?

Nop!
My 1st M7 suffered from scratches on the camera lens easily but not the 2nd M7 I have, same goes for camera tint, had it on the 1st one but not on the 2nd,looks like HTC quality control is not the same from a factory to another

someone wanna try to take that plastic piece in the back off to see how it goes?
its the opposite in my case, picture quality got worse with the battery door off.
OP is talking about the lens cover rather than the battery door.

The video would be much better if it didn't have those blue frames in between the before and after shots. It's hard to even notice the difference when you have to wait 5 seconds between shots. It's be much better if it simply went from before to after with no delay and had the words superimposed on the images.
The problem is caused by internal reflections between the plastic cover and the lens itself. (Assuming the cover is actually plastic. I've never seen or handled a Desire.) It's basically glare which makes the black areas of the photo look like dark gray, and causes a general washing-out of the colors.
The lens cover on the G2 is made of glass with an anti-glare coating on it. It's not going to cause nearly as much of a problem as a cheap plastic cover would.
Also, the Desire is not the same as the Desire Z. The Desire Z is the brother of the G2, not the Desire. At least, I would say. Tips about how to improve the Desire don't necessarily mean anything to the G2 or Desire Z.
Yeah, that's stupid. clearly the lens "protector" has been scratched.
I've just bought an S4 for my wife (Tesco mobile in the UK) and we noticed that around the camera lens there are a series of fine scratches. However it looks like the scratches are on a protector that surrounds the lens but doesn't cover the centre. I wanted to try to take it off but my wife wouldn't let me as we couldn't be sure it WAS a protector.
So, I wanted to ask whether your s4 came with a protector round the lens and if it did, did you take it off?

yes it's a protector - yes, you should remove it.
My S4 also had a protector on the camera lens.
You dont have to remove it. Leave it to protect from scratches

Take it off, your pictures will get blurrier and blurrier.
you can take of, see this ss

I would be very surprised if Samsung didn't use Gorilla glass on the camera's lense also.
So short of using your phone around a lot of sand or diamonds, it should be ok.

Mine came off on its own after the phone became hot.
I don't think camera lenses are gorilla glasses. I remember developing lots of scratches on my S2. I just wonder why there hasn't been lots of talk about it already.

I took it off after brushing against it a couple of times and hearing the flimsy plastic crinkling sound was enough. I figured it must come off because although the overall build of the S4 is somewhat on the cheap plastic side, it's not possible that this could be a normal feature.
I keep a case on it now so the camera lens never touches the surface the phone rests on.
Seems like there is still plastic on my lens. Buggered if I can get it off though.
Guys you don't need to take it off the centre is not covered by the protector but it allows the camera to function normally the protector is doing its job properly by protecting the bulk of the lense when say for example you put your phone on the desk it hits the lense first.
pff good thing i found this topic, i was worried that my brand new S4 is already scratched near the camera The bad thing about is that it has air in it, at least with my S4 it has and it really don't protect the lens so good. When I'am geting my case i'am taking it off ! :victory:
not really ...

i would suggest you to tilt and look your s4's back... lens is about 1/2 mm lower than the back cover and never touches the desk surface unless you plan to keep it on a dust(sand) sprinkled surface.
i have also ripped that ****ty thing on my s4...

richie
I got my phone at tesco mobile too, and only because of this thread I noticed there was a camera lens protector. I also thought there were fine scratches around the lens, but I can see now they are on the protector. I'll remove it anyway, going to be getting a case soon which no doubt will sit out further than the camera lens.

i don't think it will affect your shots since it's only covering the sides, mine's still intact
You don't need to take it off but I did. It's a doughnut shape and doesn't cover the actual center of the lens where the image is exposed. As such you have to wonder what the point of it is.

Point is: if lens area get in contact with some surface, the raised protector will prevent the actual lens to be scratched. It is difficult to remove because it meant to be there!
If this protector is'n centered correctly when assembled, I guess it can effect quality of camera and have to be removed ...
I too removed it (even there was no need of doing it) but I always use a case that also raise lens from any surface.
The camera bump out on the back of the Galaxy S5 seems like an odd design feature. Doesn't this mean that any time you put your phone down it ends up resting right on the camera lens? Is there anything to stop that lens from getting scratched up from sliding around on tables all the time?
I don't have an S5 yet so I'm curious to hear from owners, what are your observations about this so far?
Looks that way, I use a Spigen case that gives me a gap.

One thing that I would advise for better pictures is to take off the plastic covering on there. Lol. Isn't the glass on the lens made of scratch proof sapphire or something?

Anyone using the phone without a case/cover?? Worried about the camera lens getting scratched since the lens is flush with the battery cover and touches whatever surface you lay the phone down on.
Who is using the phone without any case or cover?
How long have you had it without a case/cover?
Has your camera lens gotten scratched?
Thanks in advance for any insight you might give!!
I have the SView wireless charging cover the camera is recessed about 1/16" from the battery cover.

I've had my GS4 caseless for a year now. The silver ring around the camera area seems to have taken all of the scratches. I can't find any scratches on the clear plastic that covers the camera module. To be fair, I'm pretty careful with my electronics. The worst I do is put my phone down on my wood desk. But it does seem that the ring around the camera module does a fairly good job of protecting it from scratches considering it's completely scratched up. I'm not sure if you'd even notice a problem in photos if the plastic cover got scratched since it's not part of the camera optics.
Is anyone getting a screen protector for the camera lens? If so, which one? I'm asking because with the size of the hole it might be a good idea to protect that lens.

I purchased tempered glass protectors for my S10+'s camera and it added lens flare to the pictures. I wouldn't sacrifice picture quality for camera protection.
Plan to order some. Seen a pack on amazon. But my unicorn case keeps the lens up.
If the protector is not made with real optic grade cristal, which would make the price really high, it definitevely will downgrade the pictures, the cameras are calibrated for the amount of refraction of their own lenses, now imagine puting some doubtful quality glass, I would not do it
Get it if you don't care about photo quality.
I didn't even know this was a thing, generally in a case unless you put keys in your pocket with your phone you should never catch the camera.
I've used camera skins on previous phones which protects scuffs with no photo quality issues...
Note10+
These seem to fit the bill at £5.99

What about side camera? No protectors for it.
