I'm running the newest CM (orange) and every time I flash the gapps file it does nothing. I also tried wiping and reflashing, but still nothing.

I had this happen to friend of mine last night as a matter of fact. I told her to Wipe > flash Cyanogen > flash GAPPS; she said it stuck when she flashed them back to back after a wipe.
First of all what did you wipe? Do this backup your things and do clean full wipe then flash CM7 and then flash GAPP. Now if you saying you try to flash GAPP afther than wipe cache/dalvik and then flash GAPP.
I would do a "fastboot erase system -w" and then flash CM > then GAPPs. Should make it stick.
Gapps are a ONE TIME installation as well. The .zip should not be re-flashed after an upgrade.

MOD: can you move this to correct place?
This is probably the wrong forum for your question but you did not perform a full wipe before installing. You should try wiping data, cache, dalvik, factory data reset, and format /system and then install again. Also, please state what phone you are using.

Random names TWRP

Hi, I'm from Nougat 4.5.14 and these are the steps I made:
1. Flash codeworx then reboot to twrp
2. Wipe cache and dalvik
3. Install OS 5.0.2
4. Install magisk
5. Wipe cache dalvik
6. Reboot to system
However after rebooting to system it started bootlooping so I decided to reflash OS and wipe data as recommended. So I power off the phone then hold volume down + power to boot to recovery. However when I boot to recovery, file folders started to become random names like its encrypted. Luckily I backed up my internal storage and data so I'm okay to flash everything but can someone help me how to fix the twrp random file names and the steps for reflashing the OS?
EDIT: I rebooted to recovery, wiped dalvik, cache, and data. flashed OS 5.0.2, wipe dalvik cache, flashed magisk, wipe dalvik, reboot to system and it does not proceed to circling dots. So what I did is just, wipe dalvik, cache, data, flashed OS, wipe again dalvik cache, boot to system and it proceeds to circling dots however it takes so long that I can consider this as bootloop. I'm very tempted to wipe everything (data, system, internal storage, cache, dalvik) then just flash again the OS but I don't know if it would work so I hope someone could give me some steps how to fix this
Edit 2: This is solved now: What I did is just after trying the flash OS with no magisk, I booted to system. However, i just dont boot at all so I decided to boot to recovery again, but this time the recovery is the stock one. I wipe everything I could including cache, system reset, and data (music pics etc) and it booted to the system in no time but everythings lost.
You have to format data... Not just wipe it. From TWRP go to format data, write yes, and let it format everything. Then transfer over to the phone all the fil a you need (ROM, kernel, no verity zip) and flash them as per the instructions of your rom thread. You should be fine.

You can still show other solutions as others may need it sometime

Cleared cache, now phone doesn't boot and goes to recovery

A friend just cleared cache and dalvik cache from TWRP on his OP5 and now when the phone turns on, it shows the spinning OOS boot screen and after about 30 seconds it starts the recovery.
We tried flashing the ROM again but it didn't change a thing. We tried flashing it from the stock recovery but clicking "Install from internal storage" didn't work and ADB sideloading is not possible.
I'm running out of ideas.
Try doing adb sideload from linux instead of windows. You can also choose to load the rom from a pendrive using otg.
just flash twrp again, flash oos, boot. might ask for a password, at that point you will restart back to recovery (will be oos recovery now) and just select you dont know the password and it will wipe your phone and then turn on. then go back and reinstall twrp again.
my guess is he accidentally clicked clear system, clearing cache doesnt break anything. clearing system on oos breaks it and you have to start fresh. that or install a custom rom.... but oos is better, so id spend the time and just do it right.
