Hi bro... I know that this question is very trivial, and perhaps it was discussed several times, but I would like to know from some maniac modding that tried various roms, what is the best AOSP rom for a daily use compatible with a good kernel like semaphore.
I have seen in the index that there are an incredible amount of roms and I do not have time to try them all so I ask for your help.
Thank you a lot. Best regards.
There isn't such thing as best ROM/Kernel. One's like this, one's like that. It depends what do you want from device. I personally prefer close to stock with some customizations, cause I don't need most ultimate eyecandy features. For me Purity works best. If you have rooted Nexus and recovery just try different ROMs till you find the best one for ya. You can try Rastacat, Omni or Paranoid. Those are good too.

There is no such thing called "best ROM/kernel/whatever". Just head over to the dev sections, try a few and then decide for yourself.

hey i was wodnering wich one you think its better?im using a cm 5.0.8 and its cool and stable and since froyo its out cm its making a great effort to compile and take time to get a stable and cool rom, and its ok i undertsand. in other hand we can see paul already has mcr for froyo i dont have enough time to flash roms since of work im out all day and this days i even woerk saturday and sunday are for GF
so im wondering wich one you prefer?im semi new on android perhaps i already have some apps, backups rooted phone i know a little adb and so on. so
wich one you like more? CM or MCR?
Oh gawd - what kind of answers do you expect to that question?
i personally liked mcr 21 but cm6 should be out soon so i would wait for that.
These are 2 completely different ROMs. Modaco philosophy is being as close to stock as possible with some good additions. Cyanogen is all about tweaks, performance gains, customization, etc. If you like stock then go with modaco.

Hello,
I try a lot of Roms but I don't have time to try them all. I'm just wondering what you guys think the fastest or smoothest rom out for the SG2 right now is?
So far Neat Rom and CM9 both seem really smooth. I'm talking about when you have a live wallpaper and a bunch of widgets and apps and it still runs without any lag or noticeable slow down.
No such thing. Too many variables determine phone 'performance'.
For me stock xwlpg or cm9 is the best.

There isn't such thing as the best ROM. There's still people downgrading from ICS to GB, I don't see any point, but they just think that GB is better. Try those ROMs: CM9, WanamLite, SlimICS, Stock LPG. For me, the best ROM is CM9, but one of those ROMs can be the best for you.

Well I think that's a bit harsh. I've probably flashed about 200 roms onto my phone and I just don't know what gives a rom it's performance. There are people with much more technical knowledge than me who understands how a rom/kernel affects performance. I'm not too lazy to flash roms, I'm just asking for knowledge from those with more of it than myself. And that is a primary reason for using a forum, to share.

I tried out CM9 and it did seem fast. For whatever reason SlimICS didn't seem as fast. It's so hard to know if you're just imagining the difference in speed or if it's really their though.
For me Samsung based roms seem the best and I've tried most of them. CM9 is decently quick but the Sammy stuff definitely has the edge for smooth and stable.
I'm using thebyani from and its as fast as anything I've used.

I just got mines yesterday and I cant really recommend one as its your personal choice. I tried a few of the "tablet" ones and I think I'm going back to stock later or a kang, if I can modify my nav buttons/colors etc.

There's no such thing as "the best ROM". Everybody wants something different. Take your time and try things out. You'll soon find out what matters to you. It took me about 6 months of playing around with lots of different ROMs to finally settled on what works best for me.

BAMF paradigm is a really nice combination of custom settings options (like customizable nav buttons, ability to make them any color, built in battery skin chooser, theme chooser, and more) and stability and in my opinion just makes a really nice well rounded daily driver.

This! Experiment with lots of different ROMs. None is best but everyone has a favorite.

Right now, I am on Smoothrom 3.4, and am looking to either upgrade to 4.0, or instead, choose another one entirely. My other choices are Paranoid Android (Maybe Cookies and Cream?) or Glazed Jelly Bean. What do you guys think?
To subjectional. Everybody is just gunna tell you what ROM THEY think is the best and its just gunna be a bag of opinions. Flash one you like don't listen to what a bunch of others think.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
All of them are equally good, just look at the features of each and decide which one fits your needs.
Ok fine, what do you guys recommend?
I like Paranoid Android, very smooth, awesome customization options, and very responsive developer (aaronpoweruser).

most roms can be updated by flashing straight over the top. just check the thread, if it is a major update it may require full wipe first.
you can wipe cache and dalvik before, though more important is that you nandroid backup first!
seriously, try a few roms out for yourself and find out what YOU like. the beauty of a nandroid backup is that you can always go back if you don't like it
It really is very subjective. I've tried so many and it is very hard to really see the differences sometimes.
What is missing from stock that you want? Have you simply tried another kernel?
My personal favorites now are Codename Android and SmoothROM. Both are smooth, I haven't had any bugs that drive me crazy.
Definitely, you'll probably need to flash a few different ones to figure out what you like the most.
I normally do an ADB backup and then restore to put the apps back on. Since I use Nova, I just have to set that as my Launcher and majority of my settings are restored.
Which roms are bug free? I am in the same boat as opposed.. I know I could flash roms and decide but it's easier to ask and even though is personal preference it helps to know what you guys like.. it basically helps noobs siphon out the average roms from the great ones.. it does seem like the top are glazed, paranoid, and smooth Rom.. but please do give your personal opinions:thumbup:

No rom is 100% bug-free. Threads like this are a waste of bandwidth for the very simple reason that the answer is totally subjective. Hence, they are summarily locked as soon as a moderator catches wind of them.
While I can understand and appreciate not wanting to spend a considerable amount of time flashing rom after rom, questions such as the subject matter of this thread are as pointless as "what color should I like best" or " what should my favorite tv show be." No one can answer that but you. No offense, and I'm not singling you out with this, but "what rom..." questions come across as wanting to be spoon fed the answer rather than putting even a minimal amount of effort into finding the answer.
Invest a bit of time researching. Give at least a cursory glance to some of the threads in the development forums. Generally, the features of the rom will be detailed in the OP and screenshots may even be posted. Read the last few pages of the threads to see how the current version is playing out. Look at how much traffic the various threads are getting, comparatively, to see which roms might have a fairly large user base or have been around awhile.
I would recommend Paranoid Android.
Everything is great !:good:
I'm using [ROM][KANG] CM10 with Tablet UI and I'm very happy with it. All I needed was a clean and stable rom with Tablet-UI. This one has it all!

I appreciate everyones response to the question in this thread. as it helps me to know where to start flashing roms. Thanks everyone. i started with GlazedJelly( great rom). and now running paranoid 2.5 (another great rom) i like PA as it has the option for stock or tablet ui.
I am currently using Xylon nightlies, but I have seen the new PA Halo feature, looks very interesting, and I have seen that PAC man has many of the features from CM, AKOP, and PA. What do you think is the best rom out for the N4?
Maybe we can give the features you like the most?
for Xylon I believe a very nice feature is the hybrid settings for the UI, and it has a lot of tweaks.

my fault, thanks tho!
What he said. Just take a day to back up all your stuff and flash them all. Once you find what you want, then take the time to get comfortable and set it all up.
