charging modes

hello would like to know which is more convenient to charge the battery on or off the Atrix and benefits of each loading mode

Atrix on and sleep/idle wont charge as fast as of because of things running CPU load.
Atrix with no wifi, and bt on, and normal sync. Its taking mv's per second vs off where its able to gain the same charge rate while off. ( bare minimum resources used)

if you want to know what is better for your phone, I think it's the same.
As Ciloteille said, if your phone is on, it will take more time to load, that all for me

It's better for battery to charge slowly using USB from PC. Also, for battery is better to reduce heat. For example if you charge and play games, processor and batter will produce more heat.

Can u explain any on why its better to charge of a PC USB? Is the lower voltage producing less heat the reason or is the slower charge more efficient for another reason?

Basically for every battery is better to charge slowly because chemical process is less aggressive and in the same time produce less heat. PC USB can not provide enough current as charger.
I recommend to read this article How to Prolong Lithium-based Batteries .

PC USB is 5volt correct? Were as most wall charger or car charger is 12 volt?

PC USB is 5V but charger is also about 5V. Difference is that PC USB 2.0 can provide 500mA and chargers more. For example Motorola charger provide 5,1V and 850mA. That's way charger charge battery faster. Some charger could provide 1000mA or more.

Ya that what i was just looking at. Basically what i am gathering from your info and that article is most chargers are designed to fill the battery fast, but what you reall want to do is a slow almost trickel charge like with a car battery were a low steady voltage and amperage is applied

Chargers are designed for fast charging just because users wish to charge battery faster is possible. They don't care about battery. Anyway modern battery will last longer than ordinary possession of the phone.

mmmmm and then I noticed that when you charge the battery with the phone off, it will download more slowly than when I load it on

you can charge the battery with the phone off? mine just turns itself on when it detects that it's plugged in to a power source.

Mine does that if i turn the phone off, but if i let it runn all they way dead i can fully charg it and the phone never turns on until i do so

How long does your phone charge from low to full? Mine is around 2 and 1/2 hours maybe? Im using my Nokia 808s USB charger though. havent tried charging it with the included white charger, cable is too short for me.

Mine is 2 to 2 and a half hours.

Which battery and/or charger are you using? After coming from the S2 I have noticed a large decrease in charging time with my S4, so this is very surprising to me.

Well I tried charging from my computers use port at work today only rise 20% in 2 hours

Well, laptop's USB port is not a charger - it's too weak for such a large battery.

...*facepalm*. You're not using original charger and you're complain that the one you use doens't works so well? Do you know that original charger is pulling 2000mA out, while your usb-port is pulling between 300mA and 500mA (depends if it front or back usb-port and the quality of usb port). Do the math, 2600mAh battery and 300mA / h. Full charge should take: 2600:300 = more than 8.5 hours.
With original charger S4 recharges from 0 to 100 in 1h 49minutes. If you take a solar charger it will charge even slower (like 48 hours for 0-100%).
Next time try to use your brain before complaining.

Your Samsung power brick has the cable physically attached to it? If not, you can just use a longer cable with the Samsung power supply.
The included power supply is 2 Amps, whoever is getting long charging times, make sure you use either the original Samsung power supply, or comparable in amperage supply.
Mine charges in 2 and a half hours.

Mine takes 2 to 2.5 h to charge from 0 to 100 percent. You should only use the new white charger, it's more powerful than the black one from s3, it's output is 2.0A ,old one is only 1.0A. Newer use other chargers as they may mess up your battery or phone.

I have to check the amps but based on google the Nokia Charger is at 1.3 Amps. I need to remind myself to switch the short Samsung to longer Nokia cables.
Is it safe to get a higher Amp charger, the one that the iPad uses to charge my S4? No drawback execpt for a faster charging time right?

Take it this way, grilling meat takes for example 45minutes to cook completely. You take it to some powerful furnace like 2000degrees for 5minutes then what do you expect from it to give you back? Well cooked meat or some burned meat outside and maybe raw inside?

put it this way... the s3 comes with a 700ma charger. it charges a bit slow. and has a 2100mah battery.
the s4 comes with a 2 amp charger. thats 2000ma. it doesnt charge slowly if you use this charger. i personally am going to pop it on this charger when i get home from work and then keep it on my 700ma charger overnight... no reason to waste that powerful output, it will simply waste electricity.
make sure:
1. you use the charger that came with it
2. you use a cable thats as long as (or shorter than) the stock charging cable. longer usb cables tend to charge the phone slower.
also keep in mind usb ports charge any phone slowly. the s4 will charge even slower on them because the battery is oversized compared to most.

I'm using note 2 charger and if I surf Web while charging, literally it is not charging at all.. battery is not going up or down.. Note 2 was not like this.. i could charge battery even if I play 3d game..

wow... what a science expert... first time i heard that longer cables charge slower... LOL
u funny dude.. there is no such thing like that buddy!
its just a software issue. S4 is just released and the chipset is very new. u people should wait for sometime...its a matter of few firmware releases from samsung for S4 and all the issues will be resolved. just like the latest issue resolved the over heating issues.

USB is too low a voltage to charge a modern smartphone all that quickly, my S4 take 2.5 hours roughly to full charge on the stock charger.

Im using the white 2amp charger. It doesnt go down even when watching movies. Are you using the charger that came with your s4? There might ba a problem with your s4?

USB fast charge, how to enable?

Im not sure if anyone would be familiar with this, but on my samsung galaxy nexus there was an option that was universal on all kernels called "USB fast charge"
which basically all it did was cancel out the support of file transfer while connected through USB, but in return gave much higher charging speeds through USB. With it enabled my galaxy nexus would charge almost 4x faster.
Is there an option for this on the note 3? I have not rooted yet, but will in the next few days. I understand its up to the kernel dev's and whatnot to implement it in, but is this feature available on the note 3?

Bootloader Locked, can't flash Kernels, but the Note3 charges pretty damn fast using the Stock Cable plugged into an A/C outlet.
Total Segue here, but as a Brother to two gay siblings and an Uncle to a gay nephew, can we refrain from using the therm "that's so gay" when it comes to something derogatory?

with the wall charger the note 3 came with, reallly fast. Just as fast as you stated. But through USB, slow as molasses, probably 1% every 5 minutes. which is why i was wondering if the USB fast charge option was available. On my galaxy nexus charging through USB, it was just as slow. With USB fast charge turned on, it charged as fast as a wall charger through USB.

Hmmmmm, odd. Does your machine have USB3 ports? I know that's supposed to be good for only speedy file transfers, but I wonder if it also speeds up Charging? I've just never noticed slow trickle charging from my computer. The only time it's slow is when I use a regular USB2 cable in the car....then it's slower than molasses in January.

I do have USB3 available on my computer, but havnt tried it for charging yet. So far my USB charging has been done through my car which is some random usb 2 cable. Which now that i think about it i believe its only a 1 amp charger in my car, if that. It was enough for my galaxy nexus but probably not so for the note 3. The note 3 wall charger is i believe 2.0 amps?
Im wondering if charge rates matter through usb2 / 3.

Not sure. My Laptop has a USB port that charges devices even when the Laptop is turned off, but I do know that my Nexus required less juice to charge up, where the N3 doesn't keep up when I charge it in the car, so I think it's the 1 / 2amp question

[Q] Note 4 Car Charging?

Hey guys,
I just plugged my note 4 into my car charger (anker charger, oem note 4 cable) and couldn't get it to charge. It charges my note 3 no problem.
I also have no problems charging my note 4 with wall chargers.
Any help?

I've got the "Anker® 18W / 3.6A Car Charger with Built-in Micro USB Cord for Android" and it's actually CHARGING my Note 4 when using GPS navigation and playing music! My Note 2 wouldn't charge, but it would hold charge under the same conditions.
What model charger are you using?

I actually can't find it on the charger itself or even Amazon. It's relatively new, I thought it was a 2.0/2.1 amp charger (2x USB). Definitely Anker though.

Are you using both usb's at the same time? If so, it's splitting the power, so you'll get a slow charge.

Sorry, I should have specified - the only thing plugged into the charger is my Note 4.
Shoot, maybe I just need to grab another charger. Thought I made a good decision with that Anker.

The only chargers that work with the new fast charging technology are ones that are purpose built and have the ability to switch between 9V and 5V,they are quite uncommon.

and it charges my note 4 while running Waze and tethering my Radar Detector via Bluetooth (which also uses GPS)....and it charges my wife's S5 at the same time

Using an afer market 2.1a charger and an S3 cable, charges just fine.

I believe Samsung has stated it's a 9v charger instead of the conventional 5v charger.

Did some more research and found this:

TMobile S8 charging.

Is it just me or the S8 charge slow. I'm coming from a Note 5 and it charges pretty damn quick. Right now I'm at 53% and the phone says approximately 55 minutes till full.

That sounds about right.
Fast charging is great when the phone is at a low percentage, as the percentage increases the charging speed decreases.
Overall charge from 0% should be 1 hour 30 minutes -ish or somewhere in that range.
Test it.

It definitely charges slow, my 8+ included. There's a conversation about it on the Samsung support forum. It's definitely not intended behavior, as it'll still charge slow at low percentages. It never reaches the 2000mA rate that it should.

Based on my testing (I'll verify again tonight with pictures)
Quick charge 2.0/3.0
Screen on - 5v/1A
Screen off 9v/1.67A
USB C cable charging
Screen on 5v/1.5A
Screen off 9v/1.8A
The phones are QC 2.0 which means they're limited to I believe max 18 watts charging rate which would be 9v/2A with the screen off

2.0? Like the s6? Mine charges so much slower than my old s6. Took over 3 hours to charge 50% yesterday, screen off almost the whole time.

Yeah Samsung for some reason did not activate QC 3.0 or even 4.0 on the S8(so stupid but seeing the NOte 7 battery issue, they're probably being cautious)
The S6 only had a 2550mAh battery vs the S8 that has a 3000mAh battery so yeah the S6 is definitely going to charge "faster"
Pick up a USB C multi-meter and see what the charger is outputting to your phone

Stock brick and cable. The same thing happens with the brick and charger included in the wireless fast charging, and the wireless fast charger itself.

Go to settings, device maintenance, click battery, click the 3 dot menu (top right), select advanced settings and check if fast cable charging is enabled.

Both are enabled and while charging it says it's fast charging. It even gives a reasonable charge time like 52 minutes, but even the estimate is off by a lot.
