S Health & Other Data Wiped After Restart - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys. I'm having a frustrating problem with my Galaxy S5 that I haven't been able to find answers for anywhere. I'm thinking about just wiping it and starting again, but I thought I'd ask around here first.
Every time I restart or reboot my Galaxy S5 (usually after the battery has died), it wipes data from certain apps. S Health appears to be the main one –*I literally have to set it up again every time – but I've also noticed it has previously logged me out of apps like CloudMagic, BaconReader, and Dropbox.
Any ideas as to what might be causing this?

Something is obviously buggy, I'd suggest a hard reset (factory) and see if that fixes it.

I kept getting this with s-health. Thought I was going mad. Then after a while it just stopped happening. Very strange.

Yeah, was thinking that. Just wanted to check there wasn't a quick fix before I wiped.

Cache Update Service Wakelock

How do I stop this? My phone has not been able to deep sleep all morning. Battery is draining hard. Any tips? I tried searching for this online and I wasn't able to come up with a proper solution other than disabling this service, which might have repercussions I don't want.

I have the exact same problem, and I don't think our setups have anything in common
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk
there is a thread one one of our N4 subsections to fix that. i dont know the link
I and oane friend had this wired bug his morning!
Also started for me could be its the same as the 4.2 data drain when it was trying to update to 4.3.
It got sorted after I restarted but it happens again I'll try applying the same fix and see if it works.
I had that same wakelock and it was cutting my battery in half.
I downloaded this aplication https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cn.wq.disableservice
Then navigate to system apps/google play services/show full name and uncheck this first option on my SS
That worked for me,no more battery draining from cacheupdateservice
You must be rooted offcourse.
I have the same problem, any solution to unrooted devices? This is very annoying, when a service wakelock seems to disappear, another one appears.
Tapatalking from Desire
Hi guys, clearing the cache for google play services (+rebooting phone) solved the problem in my case.
Im rooted, but this should also work on unrooted phones

Same here. Noticed this yesterday as my battery was draining like crazy. I just went to the Google Services app and cleared all data and have not seen this wakelock anymore. Galaxy S4...not rooted.

[Q] System slowdown/lag during app installation/uninstallaton

Is this normal to n9005 or am I the only one experiencing this?

Isn't normal, unless it's a big app that is getting in/uninstalled. Or something is eating RAM/CPU at the same time, try a reboot.. If not factory reset usually does the trick.

Already tried factory reset but still the same - freeze/slowdown untill installation finished (the bigger the app the longer the freeze). Just want to know of users experiencing the same and if there's any known fix. I didn't mind this before but I now i am starting to worry if my unit is defective.
Haven't had it myself, and I cannot recall anyone posting regarding it within the last 7 weeks or so. So potentially you may have a faulty unit yes
Little lag yes, freezing not at all. If it's a small app, there's no lag either.

[Q] [HELP] Data plan spent even with all disabled

Anyone here had problem with the data plan be spent even with everything turned off? I do not know what to do to solve.
Is it a bug with the sim card? I think more likely to be a software problem. The strange thing is that the data counter remains the same, it is as if I had not spent any additional data.
I only know what is being spent because I get warning message from my cellphone carrier.
The data is always spent near or after midnight.
Tried block all data with Android Firewall. No luck, the log remains clear.
Tried edit the APN's password. Fixed for one day, on the next day in the morning, data was spent again, even with the wrong password
It seems to be a recurring problem with the 805 model, other people are having the same problem.
I'm in stock Android 4.4.2 with Dorimanx's kernel, but this problem also happened with the stock kk kernel.
I really appreciate if someone could help me with this problem.
PS: Sorry for my crappy english
Just a thought, might share with the community as to what app is using all of your data,

I do not know. As I said, data counter remains the same, it is as if I had not spent anything.

Galaxy S5 Randomly Corrupted

Monday morning my device working great. Then randomly my finger print scanner stopped working. I also noticed my SD card is no longer working, says it's corrupted and asking to format. I now have to access my phone via a pattern and for some reason it is VERY slow to show the screen after pressing the power/home buttons. I cannot install any applications, and alerts me my device is running out of storage even though there is 500MB+ remaining. It's now also very slow in response.
I tried checking the finger print scanner settings but alerts me that and error has occurred and to restart the device. - doesn't work..
I've had my device for two years and never has an issues.
Device is rooted but still has stock.
Model: SM-G900P
Kernal: 3.4.0-9634333
Android Version: 4.4.2
Software Version: G900PVPU1ANCB
I also want to mention that I got a text message the other day saying that I'm eligible for an upgrade from Sprint... Day later phone starts acting up. I'm sure restoring the phone or installing a custom rom might fix this, but I'm wondering what would cause this.
Thanks
Try booting into recovery and clearing the caches, often cures random problems like that
500Mb is not a lot... I would back up your SD contents, format it like its asking, then put your backup back on it, low space would certainly explain the lag and what not, not too sure about the fingerprint scanner though.

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately that didn't work.
Perhaps it is some sort of virus or malicious attack on my device?

Didn't install anything. Really just use my phone for text, email, and calling. It's really bizarre. I think I'll just have to back up and restore or get a rom.
Thanks for the response.

Did you try my above suggestion? If you're open to it then yes, I would factory reset.

Resetting it to factory fixed all my issues.
Thanks everyone for the responses and helping out!

Super lagging & freezing after newest fw upgrade

My S10+ becomes super lagging and sometimes freezing after newest fw upgrade (G975FXXU1ASE5) on May 22. Anyone having the same problem?
First thing i'd try if it was mine, if you haven't already, is a factory reset. Between Googles backup and Samsungs backup you can get it pretty much back the way you had it before resetting. I always make sure to do a fresh backup using both Google and Samsung first. Then Factory reset. Full restore using google when system asks which backup you want to use, use the latest one you just made of course, then restart and do the Samsung restore through Samsung cloud on top of Googles. I usually get all apps and Data restored without missing much. Home screens and widgets are restored. It's almost like i didn't do a reset at all. If it's still Laggy, then factory reset again and don't restore it. See how it works then. That way you're not restoring any App or setting that could've been causing your issue. It looks like you've been around here about 10 years so this all may be nothing new to you, but this is how i would do it.
Factory reset doesn't seem to help according to reports about rhis update.
Okay well flash in Odin and use CSC to perform a full wipe on the device... See if you still have the same issue. Consider Frija or Samfirm
People report it's something to do with the WiFi drivers, try switching it off and use mobile data to see if it persists

i dont really want to use the factory reset option because you wont know which app causing the problem.
im trying disabling app by app. so far i guess theres also something wrong with the fingerprint driver. i have a feeling the lagging always starts with fingerprint then it causes the whole system lagging and freezing.
maybe the optimize battery usage feature is way too aggressive? it freezes the fingerprint service while system tries to wake it up then it causes an endless loop and end up with a memory leak?? just blindly guessing so pls correct me if am wrong.

Workaround for this is to switch off WiFi as there is some problems with the WiFi certificates.
Use Mobile data for the internet connection and you will not face any laggyness or issues.
I have already talked about this issues, https://forum.xda-developers.com/s10-plus/help/update-exynos-model-bugs-t3934200

can you try leaving wifi on but not using wifi (not connect to any networks) and leave it for some time.? i think it has something to do with wifi when its not in use.

It was like that plenty of time, just for test i forgot my work wifi network and 3 hours passes and still works perfect.
BTW people with problem, do you remember in developer options if there was before this update option to enable hardware acceleration for modem?
Could you for test try disable that option and reboot phone, or enable if it was disabled...just a hunch..
I had troubles with google app not responding at all and whole system became extremely laggy. Disabling bixby all together fixed problem. Now phone feels smooth and responsive even battery life has improved.
I ve read on sammobile that a new update rolls out to fix the bugs. So you better check for OTA. I am still on april

the new fw (AES6) rolls out to my phone today. and looks like they got it fixed. no more lag & freeze so far.
I was hesitant about applying the new update for the May patch because of all the issues everybody with reporting. I've had this update applied for about 4 hours now and so far there's no issues at all. I wonder if it's affecting every device or just a few. Anyone know if the updated fix has rolled out to unlocked Canadian devices?
