New Hangouts 2.1 issue
I am noticing that when someone sends me a text (sms) their picture is displaying in the notification bar (even though I have a contact picture for them), however, when I open the message the picture appears next to their text. When someone send me a message (not sms) the picture displays correctly in the notification bar. Anyone else having this issue?

crazy ass motherfaka
to be a sign that Android 2.3 is almost there, Facebook for Android and Twitter apps should have been released for Android 2.3, not just an update for Android 2.2, I guess
Considering the twitter app was developed inhouse at google, I'm going to say yup.
The only reason I can see them creating new Facebook and Twitter apps *FOR* 2.3, would be because they had new features that would only work on 2.3.
Since they've already released it for 2.2, that means no new features, so what would be the connection between the apps and 2.3?

Why do you need signs? 2.3 is almost here. Gingerbread statue is unrevealed, new API levels were shown so... it's definitely "almost" here.

Twitter was done internally at google in an attempt to show where the OS will head in terms of asthetics post-froyo.
It was done as a proof of concept.

It's a possibility the design cues will be similar.
We've seen the "thin line" and flatter buttons look on voice search already.
Gmail has those same dividers. The flat palette is also there (when you delete an email you get a green dropdown with white text).
The assets recently dug up inside of the latest Gmaps apk shows the squarer look.
Google has been minimizing resource dependency on all fronts. Removing gradients from images will have a great impact on image assets being pushed over networks (this has more to do with web apps than android apps, but I digress). They have a certain "look" that you can pick up from in all of their products, and it's making it's way into android.
What I meant by early look, is that the team putting the twitter app together has alreayd been working with gingerbread, and possibly honeycomb already.
Personally, I think all the nexus 2 talk has pushed gingerbread to a second thought in the nexus forums. As for gingerbread itself... it will get here when it gets here.
OMFG. I just realized the 2 and 3 buttons are next to each other on my laptop. That must mean 2.3 is coming soon!

According to Engadget there is a firmware update available for the HTC EVO. It updates a lot of bloatware. In addition, it installs the Blockbuster and Swype app. Post how the update goes. Here is the article: EVO 4G gets new firmware update: lots of app refreshes -- Engadget Mobile

I'm guessing like any update Sprint/HTC roll out, there are going to be delays in certain parts. I'm sure it will be hitting devices sooner than later. Sprint/HTC are probably getting their servers up to par for a mass of people trying to get their phones updated.
To the mods, If I posted in the wrong location please move. Thanks
On a side note:
Please do not update if you are rooted or are going to root. Like the recent updates in the past, this may get rid of the root exploit.

This update is most likely the precursor to Gingerbread kinda like what they did right before froyo was released put everyone on the same level with all the fixes then upgrade them all at the same time no haveing to wait for differnt builds due to partition issues of course since we're rooted it doesn't matter to us really

Swype vs Voice
One of the posts following the Engadget story reported that you lose voice input when you use the swype that comes with the Sprint update. Is this true?
It makes no sense because the latest version of the Swype beta has the mic button, and voice input available.
If the voice input, mic button is not there in the version of Swype that comes with the Sprint update, it may be due to Sprint specifications. What would the point of that be.
Thank you for your time.
Ok flame away but where is the update? I dont see it in any links or my phone says there is no update available.

Getting now ICS 4.0.3, very very slow download.
What??? Same version? Good to know they tried so hard to fix the bugs...
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk
I take it you're referring to the stock ROM? I wonder if the rollout has restarted or if you're just in a test region. Shame it's still 4.0.3 though, I would have thought they would have incremented the build if they have incorporated all the fixes required...
Ics 4.0.3 MR1
MR1 is the build that was originally pushed out and then paused...have Google fixed anything at all?
This is a pretty poor way to treat Nexus owners, by definition we're all either devs or early adopters yet they still fail to keep us up to date or even issue a statement about what the problem is for weeks.
The update server was turned back on yesterday for both the Galaxy Nexus and Nexus S. So far nothing new has rolled out. The same versions that were on the server before they shut it down are what is being rolled out.
Same version or not, hopefully the 9020a's and 4g's of the world get something this time.
Do you have still "battery drain"
My idea is that they have pushed the OTA just because the OTA server is just one for both the nexus.....the different phone will recive they're own firmware as well.

It's still build IML74K so it is the exact same release.
Yeah if it was different in any way, it would have a different build number. The update that is rolling out OTA is EXACTLY the same as the one before it was paused.
Wouldn't it be nice if Google would bother to make a statement regarding weather they found a problem with 4.0.3 or not. Instead of just turning the servers back on and making everyone guess. It's not like they need a press conference, they could have just posted something/anything on G+ or Twitter.
Why choose to leave your customers in the dark constantly, especially as the main owners of the Nexus S are dev's for Google's Android community.
Sometimes you have to wonder what the **** Google is thinking.

So far I know, Google said nothing. No official statements. Only thing was one post in helpdesk forums, when they said the OTAs can be on hold for specific region. No official cause was stated why or if it is on hold. That was a crowd created story.

Fresh out of beta and available on the Play Store. So far, I like this app. Feature-rich, easy to use.

Have fun.
downloaded it, and then quickly got a refund. Has potential. Shoots faster than the stock app, and will lock and hold focus points. But white balance is off when on Auto.
Maybe i'll try it out in the future if it gets fixed.

Mine is working well, especially now with 4.4.1 loaded. Low light is a challenge with any camera app, but I'll use this as my daily driver.

It has to go from google to samsung then to sprint then us? Call me skeptical but I don't see this getting to us before Jan, even Feb. Good progress though on googles part.
edit: deleted comment. I was just being a grump.
It sure looks promising. The reskinned apps like Messaging look nice, but I like the priority senders in the Messages app. If they do away with that, I'll go right to hangouts for SMS/MMS probably as default. The dialer looks slick too. I'm not a fan of TW, but this doesn't look super horrible. I use Nova anyways, like most people.

Hey the longer it takes it will give the devs time to catch up to the new OS. Those behind that video state that Samsung is testing it, then Sprint adds some bloat and we finally get a release. Samsung may start next month for their own versions once they get the Note 4 out the door. Then a month or two afterwards the providers will start their releases. Once we start seeing that then we know we are in the que.

I'm extremely particular about MMS pictures and group texts. My family can only figure out how to send texts and haven't mastered Hangouts - very frustrating. I have had issues with MMS display and sending in 8sms, Evolve, and others. I find the stock Samsung Messages app is the most reliable and quickest. Especially with Sprint WiFi calling, it flies.
