[Q] Battery Drain by "Android System"!! please help!!! - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

At first "Android System" was like 25% which was okay i guess, I still felt like the battery is not so good.... it drained fast...
But today with moderate use I got from 100% at 7:00 to 5% at 17:30! (and I charged for like 10 minutes with a 1A charger which didn't help a lot)
when I checked the battery stats, "android system" was 43%!!!!
Even when im not using the device I see that the battery goes down very fast! even though I clean the apps in the background a lot!
Maybe i turend on some setting that really drains the battery?
What can I do to fix this?
I have to mention that these stats are with power saving mode turned on!
This is such a disappointment... I hope it can be fixed cuz I expected a lot more from the phone's battery..
Also - I dont know if it helps, but the devices tends to get hot even when not using it...
and the screen is almost always on very low brightness
Attached are screen shots with the detais about "android system"

Check out my thread dude I have the same problem except nowhere near as bad as urs. I thought 20%-25% was a lot but damn 40%+ is insane. I think it's a kitkat problem or something.
A factory reset may help you though.

un-sync your samsung account and uninstall the samsung app store. YMMV, worked for me. :good:

I had this problem, too. Are you using Google+ to backup your photos? Turning off auto-backup made a massive difference for me. I've also switched off Google Now and location reporting, and both made a big different. By Galaxy S5 was burning through battery life before, but it's been pretty impressive since I made those changes. And I still have Samsung Apps activated and my Samsung account in sync.

how do you uninstall samsung app store?

i dont think u can uninstall unless u rooted, but u can turn it off,.

umm AVG is chewing up all your battery dude.
uninstall that junk and find a AV thats light on battery. i use Dr.Web light which has always done be well and uses next to no battery
do you have "restrict background data" ticked on power saving?
and yeah make sure GPS, Bluetooth is off too, only use when needed.
my battery on my s5 lasts 2 days of fairly heavy use

turning off mobile data/wifi when you don't use it significantly reduces android system and android os usage.
it isn't really a solution, but it is a work around.

I also have a problem I posted this on another members thread -
I have also had this problem, I have not changed many settings since day 1 of owning this phone - nfc data bluetooth & sync off, Wifi scanning all the time only when charging & drains so much during the night! Last night I was on 42% at 21:50 then at 22:50 it was on 23% then at 23:50 it was on 15% & at that point I put ultra power saver on, which said I would have 1 day of power left.... I checked again at about 01:00 & my phone had run out of battery & shut down! Today I am taking back my phone to the shop & am demanding a new handset, I think I may have just had a faulty S5? Also my phone was getting quite hot at night in my pocket & also had a problem sometimes when powering on with the power button to wake the phone nothing happens & got stuck in ultra power mode a few times & rebooted? Other than this I love the S5 & hope my new handset is perfect? IT BETTER BE? [emoji35]

Let me know if they give you a new handset...
I sent an email to support, they told me to bring the device to the lab to get it checked....
cant they just give me a new one and thats it? -_- ughh

Went to the EE shop like I was told on the phone from customer services but they were unhelpful & then had to phone customer services back but then all they could do was send me another battery & not give me another handset yet! but not until after the weekend which by then my 14day return with no questions asked would be up & I would be bound to a contract for 24 months.... So i told them to stick there contract & thanks for wasting my time & lieing to me, so gone over to O2 contract a few hrs later & I must say I am happier with them, I even asked if they could unlock my phone to any use any sim & was told just ring customer services & they will do it free of charge!!!! (I was very surprised), anyway charged my battery for about 6 or & a half hrs & have had 22hrs battery life so far with loads of Web viewing, Wifi on most of the time & still have 27%. Loving this phone [emoji106]

Dont worry too much...Considering if your phone is new, the battery need conditioning. Just use it for a week with full charge cycle, I am sure it will be normal. Also you can check from battery usage, to make sure it's not some apps you installed that caused the heavy drain.
This is standard in the first few days; 4 days into me having mine, I noticed a decrease from 100% to 31% in 6.5 hours without even touching the phone, however now it runs a breeze.
I wouldn't say wait for it to mellow out and it will be perfect (although you can sit it out, regardless of what you do the phone battery will still need to adjust) but in the long run I'd suggest making use of the handy new battery management feature (Home, Menu, Settings, Applications, Battery Use) and also an application called Advanced Task Killer, which will manage applications that are loaded in memory on the phone. Some say this helps, some say it doesnt, but I personally feel it's beneficial to have it installed.
Be very careful if you're running Kakaotalk or Whatsapp - they drink battery power like mad.
Just be careful with running apps and widgets - I've put my WiFi sleep policy to when screen is off too.
Really pleased with my battery life - getting between 18 - 24 hours of pretty heavy use per charge

I'm tired of answering this question... please use the SEARCH feature.
I have the same problem with battery drain... When I restart the phone the problem dispersers for some time... I have only installed a few apps that I have used without problems on my HTC HD2.. I have run a lot of different android roms on HD2 without this kind of problem..
Actual I noticed the battery drain problem from first start on my ARC..
Now I have installed the "Only Battery Widget" and on the graph I can clearly see that the battery drain is lower after a restart.
I don't know when or why the problem appear...
I have the same problem before! However, after uninstall task killer program, disable Bravia engine, install shutupbatterysaver and do a reboot, the battery problem has gone!
I see Whatsapp is always in the "Running" apps list after restart. I don't use it.
I don't have an account and I tried to open the app once but did not register or agree to the terms.
It shouldn't use a lot of battery right?

It's installed on mine too but does not use much.
Kakaotalk, on the other hand, accounted for 22% of my battery usage - and I wasn't even using it!!
Uninstalled it.
my 1st proper days usage today and i got 19hrs at which point i hit 15% battery so stuck it back on charge, i was messing with the phone all day, quite a bit of gaming, 3 or 4 videos, pictures net etc, screen on auto, i have no task killer installed... i feel that when ive come out of a game when i check whats running its not there so no need as far as i can see to have 1, pleased with the battery it hasnt yet been through any cycles, this is the 1st time ive properly charged it
The battery drain from first day to third day is extremly different!
First day battery drained about 10% per hour idle, third day 2% only

Same here.
I notice there a lot of background services running on the ARC as compared to my Galaxy S and they cannot be stopped (keep coming back) or uninstalled.
I am using Green Power Free set to 1 min ON and 5 mins OFF to see if things get any better.
My Arc drain almost 30% over night with data off. I did a hard reset, it drop only 3%
For that matter I'll have to ask something... Is it detrimental to my battery's health when I charge it while still being halfway full? Does it hamper the total capacity? Because that's what I have to do sometimes because of school... Don't want an almost-empty battery there

Theoretically Lithium batteries shouldn't be a problem since there is no memory effect. Just do a complete charge/discharge/charge cycle once a month or so to "calibrate" the battery meter.
You should also do it once or twice when new.
One more thing, I am using third party micro usb charger, the phone screen unlock not working!!! Which I cant unlock the phone while i charge!! Just be more careful. Or any friend have this issue?
Hi, it happened to me too. My battery started draining faster. I was not able to figure out which app caused it, may be WhatsTheApp or Evernote. So I took a backup and made a factory reset. Now my battery is back to normal. you can try that. Now I'm getting 2 days even after playing some HD games. Really loving this phone. Hope this helps....

R800x 2.3.3. battery life absolutely deathly

Okay so I posted here a week or so ago about how my Xperia Play was epicly failing....it was force closing everything and dying in just hours.
So I factory reset and used Titanium to restore all of my apps and stuff...and so far the crawling speed/force closing has for the most part abated (opening up texts and contacts still sometimes takes forever or force closes)
but the battery issue remains. My battery is absolute garbage at the moment. It drains by 10 percent per half hour if being used or even more!! And it gets hot constantly, and obviously at that time it really sheds the power and dies quickly.
If I'm CHARGING the phone WHILE using it heavily, it WON'T power ABOVE the % it started at!! It stays constant or goes down!!
I'm not sure what to do. Should I let the phone die, keep it off, and charge it while off till its 100%?
Or maybe my phone is approaching the situation it was a week ago...I constantly check the running apps and its the usual suspects, nothing crazy. I had to delete official facebook app because it almost ALWAYS lagged and oftentimes force closed.
It says cell standby is using 40%, wi-fi using about 22%, voice calls 17%, phone idle 15%, and dialer 14%
What happened to my phone? Why is it such a clusterf*ck lately? Any ideas/advice?
Are you leaving wifi on because that will really suck the battery down? Also do you live in an area with bad signal? Put it in airplane mode and see if the battery still discharges as fast.

My r800x dies in 6 hours whether it's on airplane mode or not. I've re calibrated the battery like 5 times so far, and it just won't get better. I'm regretting moving to verizon to this. I should just get a sim card and go back to my HTC Inspire. I can leave the r800x in idle with the screen off, while in airplane mode and it will still die in 6 hours. It doesn't even last a whole day of work. Mine's also rooted. I need some serious help with this phone.
Turn off wifi.
If you have it on it will search for wifi networks all of the time (unless you're home and connected to your own wifi) and it will suck your battery dry.
I don't even use wifi. I don't have access to the router at home, and my data is turned off when I'm not using it.
Perhaps you have a bad battery? Maybe replacing that will solve the issue.
It could be. Every time I try to check my battery's health, no matter what app I use, or even if I do it from the service menu it reads at "unknown". One app says that my phone doesn't even have a battery stat service, or something along those lines. I was considering just buying one of those mugen batteries for my phone, considering that I brought the issue to verizon's attention, and they told me they were gonna send me a replacement battery, but I never got it. This was all about 2 months ago though.
wow, sounds bad. mine will last all day, its an r800x on 2.3.3 as well but i can use it like normal, play about a hour of games on it, talk on it a lot, use wifi and 3g and do some average surfing and it will last at least 24-30 hours...
i'm thinking it must be a bad battery as well
Im running 2.3.3 verizon from the FTF and my r800x would last almost 3days, and thats with texting/talking/surfing using 3g and playing a shyt load of sonic . I would replace the battery with a genuine Sony replacement, dont ever buy a ebay knock off ! Furthermore, I don't believe apps that check your battery health are accurate at all, so dont waste your time.
Best way to check (imo) - Before you charge it up, let it go to 0% and die. Boot recovery and wipe the battery stats, turn the phone on and charge to full. After its fully charged, let it sit 10-15 mins on charge. Then pull of the charge and use normally, if it still dies fast, replace the battery.
If this idea was already posted sorry for double post

I swapped mine out for similar issues. The replacement doesn't have the same issues yet but I haven't put a single app on it. I can't say that adding apps caused it before because I remember it similarly not getting anywhere when charging while using. I also experienced it dropping while charging but it turned out to be a that the MTP device wasn't starting on the PC so it showed as plugged in and charging even though it wasn't (check the Device Manager). My Alienware M11x actually supports charging devices off that particular USB port when it is turned off so it was a bit hard to figure out when it seemed to charge some times and not others.
So I got a new battery. Battery life oz still terrible, phone still can't detect battery health.
Not sure why, but my battery voltages are higher than 3.6 :/
Sent from my R800x using XDA App
Hate to tell you but it sounds like your Play is defective.
The only way it would always get hot like that is if it was always running, that would be mainly driven by being in a REALLY bad service area that its always searching. I have a boatload of games etc on mine and my battery life varies from 2 days to 3/4 of a day depending where I am. Heck my battery life varies as to whether I leave my phone on my desk at work or on the shelf above me (lasts longer on the shelf).
But the fact you said that even in airplane mode it eats the battery, and a new battery didn't do the trick. I would say you got a bad one. Still under warranty I hope?
i'm not entirely sure. I got mine through verizon in august or september of this year. Not sure if Verizon would handle replacing it, since I didn't buy their extended warranty. I read somewhere that SE themselves can handle it since it's not a year old yet, but my phone is kinda required for work.

horrific battery life...help?!

Hi All
Once again thanks for watching my video and getting me tickets to MWC...but alas i have another issue. My Note has horrific battery life....practically about 8 hours.
I downloaded better battery stats and there are no major wakelocks going on...(just juice defender at 3.4% which i uninstalled anyway) ....any other ideas?
Any help would be appreciated, another Mobiler suggested i put a custom rom on...I'm just terrified of 'bricking' my phone lol
This is perfectly average battery life for stock rom with moderate to heavy usage but if on light usage you might have some issues. Here is my battery like with heavy use.
Don't pay attention to people claiming Days of battery life they are simply not using the phone.

Maybe you could post up your betterybatterystats results?
I was having the same problem. I have a lot of apps on my phone, and it was just draining while sleeping as far as I could see. My main issue was all the unwanted apps like the social and media hub popping up whenever they felt like chomping on my battery.
I finally gave in and rooted, and installed droidwall to prevent anything getting network access I do not allow, android assistant for its start up manager, and autorun to delete all 'event listeners' that cause apps to pop up when they like (and there are hundreds of these in the stock apps, I assure you).
I now have 50% more battery life, and it seems to lose a lot less while sleeping.
I installed the CPU speed set thingy (sorry, I forget the name) but I had the problem a few others seem to have because it drained the battery faster than ever while sleeping. I will try again after a few days. I screenshot the battery graph in full screen, showing the WiFi, wake & screen, every day so that I can get a good feel for historical usage and battery life.
I have an el cheapo battery (had two but lost one) for emergencies. I am buying a Samsung one instead (for a 'real' 2500 mAh), and expect to keep it on me at all times. That should take me through a day of pretty heavy usage. I also have some dangly 'add-on' chargers, but frankly a spare battery is neater, smaller and easier.
I have also bout a tablet (10.2" with 16GB) for $200. I fully expect to buy another - one for work and one for home. These will reduce my usage of the G-Note and leave it for actual use as a phone. The main problem is that I use it so damned much! I have my phone, contacts, all my To Do lists, email, audible books, textual books, surfing, games, etc all on one device. I also use it to type notes at meetings or the like using my folding BT keyboard. It does it all really well, but does not have the battery to cope!
I know there are fat batteries out there, but I do not want to spoil the beauty of my svelte Note by giving it a hunch-back!
---------- Post added at 10:42 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:33 PM ----------
I also use Llama to control things like BT, WiFi and network data access when away from home or office. It does help, and means I don't have to remember to toggle. I tried Juice Defender as well, but its idea of turning on the WiFi at intervals saved my battery but seemed to make my email (IMAP) never download. I need to know when emails come in so that did not work for me. I may try it again at some point and try to make it work better for me.
Uninstall Juice Defender. I found my phone battery lasted twice longer after I removed it.

After battery "settled" I get around 10 hours then pop in a second battery!
Took about 15 charging cycles though to get the 10 hours!
Anyway just saying it may take time! And a second battery is always safest

that's... actually pretty normal battery usage if you're using your phone a lot.
my note is operating pretty much 18hours a day. A full charge is all i need, and by the end of the day, i get the critical battery notification.
if your note lasted more than a day, that's great. But with the amount of workload i am expending using my note, i wouldn't be surprised if continued usage of the phone would only last 7 to 8 hours tops. or much less.
and besides, the note can last for more than 2 days, if you didn't use it at all.
thanks for all the suggestions...i'm going to give rooting it a go this evening. Will let you know how that goes.

Yeap, that seems like average battery life. If you notice (others) that his screen on time was pretty solid most of the time. That means of the nearly 6 hours on, I'd say about 4.x hours the screen was on. So that's good
I have managed to improve my Galaxy note battery life a LOT by doing the following:
- Disable Wi-Fi when not using it.
- Settings > Accounts and Sync > UN-TICK "Auto-sync".
With auto-sync disabled you have to manually open the relevent app to get the data, but for me, thats what I prefer, and it saves loads of battery life.
Used to be 8 hours or less with the above 2 enabled.
now 16 hours+ with the above 2 disabled !
Installed free version of Juice Defender 3 days ago, didn't do anything just keeping it on balanced mod and from now on I have extended normal battery life (phone, e-mails, sms, occasional internet through 3G) from 1 day to 2 days. What can I say ...
It works. When you switch into wifi, gaming or intensive document editing then nothing is going to save you, but just for having the phone in your pocket and using it as a "phone" Juice Defender delivers.
I noticed on the market that roughly half people say it is excellent and the other half is whining that it just sucks. Give it a try a decide for yourself.
Just turn auto sync off and untick "Use wireless networks" and you will be blown away by the battery life.
The last two days my battery was losing power too quickly compared to my previous weeks with my note.
So I thought it must be an app which I installed which is causing this. The only app I installed recently was Google + so it took it off and hey presto - battery life back to normal again.
You might say well it doesn't drain my battery with google+ installed but it works with mine as I tried re-installing again and it sapped the battery again.
Maybe different apps effect different roms, kernals etc...just a thought and something you could try with a recently installed app.

I can see that as an option, and I believe that all of those who report great battery life are doing much the same. My problem is that I want to be kept alerted to emails. I have tried Juice Defender, as it starts up wireless at defined intervals, but since my email is checking at other defined intervals, at appears that the email never gets through. I have to assume they never coincide.
I also like certain apps to sync, although I guess I could do that manually. Currently I turn on autosync while at home or work with Llama. Luckily the wireless and autosync toggles are in the notification dropdown as well - that is a wonderful idea.
I use the Note far too much, so (as I have probably said) I am getting a tablet. I hope that it will serve as my email notification when I am at home or work. When Llama knows I am at neither place, it can disable autosync and enable mobile data for me (which I keep off at home & work).
It is a delicate balance trying to get full desired operation and decent battery life. I am not sure it is really worth all the agro. I may just settle for a spare battery in my wallet and a dock/battery charger by my bedside. That is probably the easiest of all options! Then I can game away whenever I like without constantly checking the battery
Im using a custom rom rocket rom v21 with abyss kernel... which gives me a battery for 40 hours approx. With fair amount of usage. Sync off facebook app as it sucks a lot of battery too.

Awesome! Been looking for this feature for awhile now. Only downfall is just remembering to switch it back when i'm using Pandora
A bit off topic but I experienced a fluke on my battery life, was just watching simpsons while I had my wifi connected and only had my yahoo messenger connected probably a total of 10-15 messages in 4hrs range, for 4 hours of screen time it normally drains 50-51% only.
I almost always have the same scenario when I watch simpsons on my phone, yahoo messenger running but it the first time to drain it like this.

Awesome battery life - inadvertently achieved

I have a few Note 10.1's (for work). Part of the process to get them ready for use is to disable all the "extra" apps which come on the Note. I was working on one earlier on Thursday and then got swamped with other issues. I picked it up this afternoon (over 48 hours after putting it down) and it is at 94% battery life remaining! Gmail sync and Wi-Fi are on. Google+ and all Samsung installed apps are disabled through the Application Manager. Power Saving mode is disabled.
I am amazed that this tablet could sit powered on for a month and still have 10% remaining charge!
Agreed. I noticed the same thing a couple of days after getting my GT-N8000. Standby time on this bad boy is epic:good:
The actual screen time on this is even more amazing (at least in my opinion). I can easily get 10 hours from full charge and perhaps even 11-12 hours sometimes. This is with constant browsing and even some gaming. With similar thing, infinity lasted mere 5 hours. With galaxy note 10.1, I have finally stopped looking at my battery use every half an hour..... Well I guess I lied.. I still do that only because I am just simply amazed with Galaxy Note's battery life, and still in doubt mode how well it does.
Yeah battery life is sick. I pulled over 10hrs. Of on-screen time the other day. With constant heavy web browsing and gaming. I did have power savings mode as I was testing if any noticeable drop in performance. Which actually there was none. I played Nova3 in power savings mode and it didn't miss a beat. Which shocked me because once CPU mode in power savings is activated, the Max speed is 1ghz on one or all 4 cores. CPU spy confirmed this. Battery life is still great in regular mode also.
The battery life of my N8000 (compared with the P7500) is incredible. The P7500 was down after a usual work day in an area with poor GSM coverage. The Note 10.1 instead is now in the late evening just below 70%.
Battery Life compared to iPad 3
Howdy All Y'All,
I got my GN10.1-16W on 25 Aug from Amazon. I've owned an iPad 3-32GW for a couple of months now. I've found the GN10.1's battery life to favorably compare to the iPad 3: getting 8-10hrs of use on both.
Impressive Samsung!!!

I agree, I am VERY impressed at the battery life on it!
And to disable these Google apps do you just choose Force Close? What are the steps to properly disable these apps? Also, every time I reboot my tablet will I need to disable them again or are my preferences remembered?
Thanks

Thanks for taking the time to explain what isn't always obvious. Especially since most of these apps needed to have the updates UN Installed before I Could See to deactivate them.

Any way to turn off update reminders for these Google apps? Most times I just hit the update all button and if I do that I'll be 're-activating several of these apps.
Unless You can't uncheck automatic updates in Play unfortunately no ......,.

No problem, I don't have that checked so I'll just skip over updating the ones that I don't want updated.
Thanks again.
Could OP post the extra apps that were disabled or uninstalled ? I don't want to accidentally disable an S pen app or requirement.

For that matter - how to enable them again once they're gone?
Cancel that - didn't scroll down far enough. The disabled apps show up at the bottom of the apps list in All view
may anyone write wchich apps should be deactivate to achive amazing battery life?
Also very happy with battery life. When t got it I tried running it down before first charge but after four hours of continuous use it still had 30% battery left so I gave up and just charged it.
Its interesting because I read reviews which suggested nexus 7 has better battery life. on the N7 I can pretty much watch the battery drain before my eyes, so I'm guessing Asus either over estimate their battery figures or Samsung underestimate theirs.

I'd also be interested to hear which apps people are deactivating, as I get only about 4-5 on screen time on my Note. I keep reading about amazing battery life, but I'm just not seeing it. If I leave my charging cable at work and use this thing in the evening at home, it's dead before I go to bed.

I meant to post this the other day but yes, a running list of apps disabled would be helpful . Im getting a very good battery life but not quite 10 hours (well maybe with power saving mode)
Also, approximately what screen percentage is everyones set at and do you use power saving mode to achieve these results?
i get great battery life setting my brightness no higher than 20%. note gets really good battery life. especially in standby.

S5 Worst battery ever

Got this phone about 10 days ago and my battery is terrible since day 1, someone suggested to root my phone and get the BBS app and dump a file i did that and installed a system tuner to disable google CHECKIN OR GCM and unchecked them. apps i got installed to help with battery battery doctor, wakelock detector, os monitor, system tuner, gsam battery, betterbatterystats.
Apps i disabled are:
Ant radio service
Ant+ plugins
App zone
Blurbcheckout
chaton
chrome
flipboard
google play book, games, movies, music, newstand , google search, google+ , hangouts
hp print service plugin
my magazine
s health , svoice , samsung account , samsung apps , samsung galaxy apps widget, samsung push service, smart remote , Top Hd Games
got a plain black wallpaper, even after all this i cant get more than 2h30m screentime and everyone is getting 5h+ do i have a defective unit? what are my options right now? cause basically i removed everything the phone has lol. i talk to my workplace and they can send the phone for repair but i want to see if someone can help me before i do that. i have to unroot the phone if i have to send it for repair even though my phone is 0x1 on knox cause i was stupid to root with cf-root and didnt check other methods.
After all that you did, then it sounds like a faulty battery or device.

How's your signal at work? I'm on 3g at half signal maybe? I get about 3:30 and standby. But when I'm at home WIFI only I get about 4-4:30 it all depends too on how bright your screen is.

How do I check if I have a good signal at work? Through an app or through a battery status.

This system tuner app you used it not any overclocking or something that might drain you battery?
What screen brightness do you use most of the time?
Can you see what use most of your battery? There is charts you can access in settings -> battery
I run with BLAZE kernel and Alliance ROM. (install without any samsung or google bloat if you can)
And I have been using my phone constantly, playing streemed music, installing apps, downloading from internet, browsing internet, having screen active a lot...
And Now I'm at 87% and have been running 1 hour and 38 minutes on battery. (Was at about 100% battery before)
I run +5 screen brightness and don't have any special powersaving features running that limit my experience with the phone.
You could try that kernel and ROM too, I feel they improved my battery time a lot.
I also shut down some samsung and google bloat stuff like air browse, s voice and such crap, saving a little little battery.
Here is my battery info and my brightness level. I have Canadian g900w from Rogers so I am not sure what roms or kernels you can use ?

Hey, here I have everything turned on and I never followed these stupid extreme battery guides and I easily get over 4 hours of screen time and one day away from the charger. I only use auto brightness, Greenify and KT Kernel.
It's a smartphone, if you're supposed to turn all the features off then you should have bought a dumb feature phone.
Looks like ur using max brightness? Nearly 2 hours screen on time for 44% isnt the best but isnt terrible. I get around 5 to 6 hours using low brightness 3g/4g on besides when screen on. Using android tuner and greenify for tuneing. Screen uses a lot of battery to. Im using. Ktoons kernal now with oc and the batterys probably the same to to me. No beter or worse but. Im running higher clock.

You're set for almost four hours of screen on time there, on what seems to be very poor mobile signal. Doesn't sound that unrealistic to me to be honest.
Poor mobile signal absolutely kills battery life, as your phone spends the entire time searching and trying to get a better signal.

I think his point is that most people get 5-6 hours screen time with everything on and without following the "stupid extreme battery guides". To be honest it looks like you aren't getting great life either if you are only getting 4 hours. I regularly get 6-7 with everything on and no greenify or kernel tweaks

I see a couple of things interesting with your setup, Speaking from personal experience, I too have had battery issues drive me up a wall. I'd get just about a day on a battery when everyone else gets about 3-9 days more. My friend has an s5 all stock and he gets 9 days on a freaking battery. WTF
I rooted my first s5, with ANCH baseband and still couldn't solve all the issues with it. So I sent it back to t-mo and they sent me another one, getting batteries on ebay has also ended up a wash. 2 batteries I've received go down 20% from a full charge in the first hour and shut completely down at 32 percent at least I got a refund on that. (So be careful about ebay batteries, even though they say samsung.
So looking at yours here's what I see, Your system is staying awake, lets look at wake locks. Kik is really tearing up your machines wakelock (900wake locks) as well as the camera CPU time, i'd imagine you were recording a video at some point.
1. Go get greenify and greenify those Kik, Instagram and camera apps if thats usage while the screen is off. (No notifications on those apps, i'm afraid when you do that.)
2. Go get system tuner, make sure your rooted by towelroot (If you so choose to keep from tripping knox) and go into app mgr and find android system and go through activities, receivers and services and make sure everything you see that says IQAgent gets unchecked. This will help you stay out of ServiceIQ's eyes and also help your battery as your entire phone is debugged through those apps. (Help is on the forums somewhere)
3. Turn off google now, hotword detection and location history or you'll start noticing Google services draining your battery
4. Go get deep sleep battery saver and remove that battery saver, I personally never liked it it only suggests things to do rather than do them for you. At night or whenever you need to save your battery turn on slumber and it will only take like a percent to 5% in the morning
5. You probably have a bad battery, especially if its down to that low. Time to exchange or return
I'm incredibly disappointed, i've had to do all these things to really figure things out, heck i'd be on firefox for about 15 minutes and go down 18% (Happened this morning)
Android really has some issues with kitkat, and even though we try and fix these problems with modifications there comes a point where one just gives up and tries to deal with it.
I don't understand why my phone gets 1.2 days and my co-workers Verizon s5 gets 9 days with normal usage. Everyone seems to have crazy all over the scale battery life results. Heck, i've reset my phone and flashed so many roms that i'd be safe to say that I have yet to have 10 full discharges in the 4 weeks i've had the phone. At the end of the day though, it's mountains better than my iphone 5 with a lenmar battery case.
Wish I could say the same with stability, I'd be on my bike and switch tracks (or try) and stuff just doesn't respond, heck I can't even go with voice activation with wired headphones and that is really a downer for me. I want to be able to hold down the pause and play and get the google now boop boop sound and speak as i'm riding.
I'm tired of this, and google has no answers, the fixes above only seem to add a couple of hours but not the 9 days I was seeing.

So? What do you do to have that many hours? Which rom? How often do you recharge? Which apps do you use? That's the point. I never freeze/uninstall anything...

My rom. With nothing removed or frozen as I have to keep all bloat due to development to check everything. I recharge every night usually with about 20% left and about 5h30 screen on. Using Tapatalk, music, calls, Internet. The usual stuff.
Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
I get 6-7 hours normal use with the bloatware I never use frozen. And I mean never use.
Gtalk, whatsapp, line, google drive, dropbox, gmail, Yahoo mail, corporate mail, all running. No greenify. No battery saver.
Now playing games is different thing. 2-3 hours max.
My battery is amazing. I keep the screen brightness lower, keep networks and chips off when not using, i use bootmanager to prevent apps from launching ay boot and only 1 active widget. Good for a day and a half of very fair use !
