What kernel?
Also, why an outdated "stable version"?
copy the contents of ur dcim folder. then delete your dcim folder. reboot phone. phone will recreate dcim folder and hopefully everything should work fine.

Why YouTube quality. Just record in the highest quality. It will still upload to YouTube just fine and will look better

As soon as I get the chance I will try that, thank you.
So yesterday I accidentally dropped my phone in milk. I picked got my phone out of it almost immediately, and dried it off. I didn't really think much of it, because everything was still working properly. Today, I tried to use my camera, but when I hit the camera button, the camera app FC'd. I reopened it and I got an error saying "Can't connect to camera". I thought maybe something happened in the ROM, so I restored a backup from about 2 weeks ago, and I got the same message.
Currently, I've got the phone in rice, just in case. Is it possible that the milk is what is causing this? If so, is there any chance that I can fix the camera without sending it in? (I don't have insurance)
The only thing that's keeping me from thinking that the milk is what's causing this, is the fact that everything else is working normally on the phone. I've called people, texted, games, everything is working fine, but the camera.
I'm running Zips most recent build, and my backup was IceColdSandwich. In a few hours when I take my phone out, I'll try a GB rom, but for now, does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks
Yea, MOST of the time, but NOT always, you can go into the phones settings, then into Applications, select the 'All' tab, and find the Camera on the list. Clear the cache, also clear data...that usually works. If not, maybe fix permissions? I always try those methods. But I don't care for ICS so I don't know if its the same as 3.5.....but try that.

None of that worked. Neither did going back to GB. Thanks for trying though!

Have you tried flashing just a camera? You can go into the Apps and theme section and there is a thread with a few camera packs that you flash in recovery?

Haha so am I. Thanks for the help though, I appreciate it.
Ya it definitely sounds like you nuked a critical component of the camera. Definitely lucky it didn't fry any of the other parts. If you've tried doing a factory reset and completely wiping your disks, don't think there's anything else you can do other than sending it in or attempting to fix it yourself which would require quite a bit of skill and probably some soldering expertise.
I'm using the same rom as you and the same thing happened to me at one point. I managed to fix it though by clearing camera cache, disabling and re-enabling it, and then clearing the dalvik cache and fixing permissions just for kicks. One or all of those things fixed it for me. Try that maybe?

Alright. I'll try it haha. I've been given new hope because the flashlight is working now, so I'm hoping the camera might start working again.
One question though, what do you mean by disabling it and re-enabling it?
When you go to clear the app cache you'll see a button next to the force stop option that says disable. From my understanding its basically like turning off the drivers for the camera. When you re-enable it (same button btw) you reactivate the drivers and it will communicate with the camera again hopefully.
If I'm wrong about any of that someone can correct me. But it still worked to fix my problem anyways

If you do plan on doing that make sure to search the general threads. I saw a really good video there once with someone walking through how to properly disassemble this phone.

Alright, I'll try to find that. The website that I'm ordering the camera from apparently sends step by step instructions.
I guess that's one thing I enjoy about iPhones. They come apart and can be repaired very easily haha
Hope?
Okay, so I randomly tried opening the camera again today, and to my surprise, the app didn't force close or give me the message saying it couldn't connect. Nothing was appearing though, so I didn't think much of it. Then I remembered in Zips build you had to turn force preview on, so I did. Nothing happened, but I tried to take a picture, and the screen turned green with a weird little brownish area in the middle.
I'll upload a picture of it later if anyone wants and thinks maybe they can help me figure it out a little more.
The fact that it's working all of the sudden makes me think it might just randomly go back to normal. However, it might not.
But the fact that the camera is actually turning on now, that means that if anythings broken, its the camera itself, right? Not the hardware around it?
Hmm, upload a picture. My camera started taking those glitchy looking photos before it died on me. If you hadn't mentioned the green and brown detail I would have forgotten.
I'm not saying I can give any more suggestions than I already did but if you're getting the same problem I had then maybe you can categorize this back in the realm of software issues. Better than a hardware failure at least...

But I tried to change the megapixels of the camera, and it "died" again. So I have no idea what to think anymore lol

So, the MyTouch 4G has shown several camera issues; from a black screen to FCing when opening the app. It seemed to be like an update issue to the newest GB but even stock phones that hadn't been updated were also having issues. If anyone has anymore info on this subject please reply here or PM me. I am very interested in this issue as I have a coworker witht the same problem. It has also been shown to reoccur after people think they have "fixed" it with a factory reset or such.
Hi guys, when I use Skype or tango the front camera doesn't work. I don't know what is wrong with it. Any one can help me please?

In skype you have to go into settings then at the bottom somewhere there is a tick box that says enable video calling, it is not in ticked by default because of something about it not being perfect yet, works well for me tho.. Not sure about tango.
Edit: if you wanna use the front cam to just take pics normally and for some reason you can't access the stock app the best way is to just download a third party camera app, bought vignette on sale today and that works perfectly too.

Depends, ask your store or google. But it is alright if it is with google, you will get your new device before sending the old one
But anyway, try to factory reset or flash the stock rom before.

I got "Cannot connect to camera" message in all camera apps on Nexus 7 when running Skype in the background. The other apps started working again when I killed Skype. Its not your tablet thats broken -- its Skype.
Camera is not working in some custom ROMs afaik

You only have one camera. Skype will reserve it, and no other app can get to it if Skype is running in the background. Be aware of what you actually have running.

Hi guys, I've been searching the Web for a while now for this problem and I hope I'm not the only one with it. But since yesterday when I'm on gallery the preview at the bottom of the screen doesn't disappear! If you play a video the play buttons don't go anywhere either. Is there anyone else with this issue?

Yep, same here. I was about to make a thread for it, but found yours. The preview at the bottom, and toolbar at the top NEVER disappear, no matter what I've tried. Also, when making photo selections, a woman's voice tells me that the "check box is checked" I can't find that setting anywhere either. Super annoying.
What the deuce?
Haha even restarts don't help =/ and yeah the woman is hilarious but creepy! I would love to ask Samsung but would have no idea where to start!

I was having this exact same problem and finally figured out what was causing it, at least for me. I installed NoLED and turned it on under accessibility. I didn't realize the connection at the time but then I noticed that the top and bottom overlays in the gallery wouldn't go away. I also got the freaky voice, even when opening websites. Somehow I correlated the issue as to having started after I installed NoLED. After I uninstalled it my gallery sent back to normal. It was either an issue with the app or having given it access under accessibility. Hope this helps.

Gallery works fine on my S4. I have several 100 pictures on it in lots of different folders, and it works great for all of them. Video playback is fine too, FWIW.

strange
That is pretty weird. Should of known it was light flow! Is there any way to report this to Samsung? At least we have found the fix. Thank you guys a lot!

Similar to this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2287316
My S4's camera app gets stuck at 10-15cm focus and won't focus.
Ending processes does not help, restart does not help, but powering off and starting up resolves it.
Everything is standard with the latest updates.
The problem is that it occurred frequently, I could recreate it within 5 minutes.
But then I did a reset to factory defaults because this is what will happen when I return the phone for testing?
Then after installing a few (non-camera) apps, it happened twice over a weekend.
So currently I am trying to recreate the problem after uninstalling a talking tom cat app... if it does happen then I have to factory reset and try to recreate it.
If it takes days to recreate, how can i return it?
And if it is software-related, is that acceptable?

Did you find a solution for this? Mine is doing the same thing. It focuses about a foot from the phone and nothing I do will change it. I don't even get it temporarily working with a reboot.
Hm actually I stopped using the Samsung vanilla cam app the first week I've got the phone for pretty much the same reason. I'm using camera FV5 instead and that allows me to even take very nice macros.
