[Q] Dialer Galaxy S 4 don't show details from google contacts - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

SGH-I337M
Android 4.3
Rom default
Hi everybody.
All my contacts are syncronized with google contacts.
I have contacts with more than 4 numbers like:
Contact 1
Home XXXX
Office XXXX
Mobile XXXX
ID XXXX
When I receive a call, the phone show me the name and the number, but don't show information like home, office, mobile.
Samsung support tell me that I need to save my contacts in the phone, but I really need my contacts in google.
Somebody can help me.
Regards.

Ummm.... save it in phone and let phone sync with Google?

Thanks for your answare, but unless you tag your contacts as Google contacts, they will not sync to your Google account.

Hmmm.... dunno.
I have restored contacts from my SGS II to my (then new) SGS IV. All were synced to Google, even if none of them was marked as Google contact.
Do I need to say that I did NOT want Google to have my contacts?

Sync with google account

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this but it's not a dev or an app thing.
So...
I use google account to sync with Contacts, Calendar. Everything working fine. Spent a few minutes to transfer my contacts from my X1 to Gmail and then sync them to my Magic. When I add a new calendar event or a new contact through web to my Google Account it get nothing but a few seconds to come up to my Magic.
When I add a calendar event using my phone, same thing. From phone to Google Calendar in seconds. Well, that doesn't happen with contacts tho.
I've tried it a few times, leaving a fulll 24 hour period to see if my contact gets from phone to google contacts. Of course, I store a contact as "google" type.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
PS : I use CM with bcrook's kernel patch for 32A devices. I'm not sure if that helps somehow but I just want to be sure.
Same here. changes to my contact list on my phone aren't getting back to my contact list in gmail.
Hi, they are but you have to go into contacts in your gmail account and they should be in All Contacts not the tab which says "All Contacts"

Double contacts?

Hey all...
I have all my contacts synched via google account , i also sync the same account contacts on my mac using the address book app...
now what happens is ... on my nexus one when i go to edit a contact it gives me 2 seperate contacts... both from my google account. some of them have different contact pictures but same phone numbers etc... why is that happening? i dont know how to take a snapshot if someone could guide me you would see what exactly i am talking about!!!
Maybe this will help? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zK0xn93Yu24 Maybe not? There's a part in the video about merging contacts.

Edit one of the dupes and hit menu. There is a "Join" function.

Thank you all for your responses !!!
I 've figured it out. When I transfered my contacts from Adress Book App (mac) onto google contacts, I made a mistake. Instead of directly syncing my contacts (address book app supports direct syncing with google contacts) i first exported the contacts and imported via browser. Then synced and that caused the duplicates.
I Edited / Deleted all the dupes and its functioning perfectly!!!

Messed up contact list using google sync... any advice?

Hi,
Summary: I used Google sync without thinking, ending up with a mixture of e-mail contacts and phone contacts on my phone and on gmail. Could use some help separating them again.
--
I have synchronised my X10 contact list with the Sony Ericsson sync service (website).
I also have a gmail account. Some days ago I added my computer's e-mail address book to that account.
Yesterday I decided to sync my phone with gmail (by selecting the following on the phone: settings - data sync - google sync). I simply wanted to upload my phone's contact list to gmail. I didn't consider that ALL my e-mail contacts would be added to the phone. I don't need those there...
So, any advice on how to get rid of all the e-mail contacts that google added to my phone?
At the moment, my complete contact list (the one I would like to maintain) exists at SE sync service.
In gmail's contact list, I can select all the e-mail contacts, and probably delete them. However, gmail's list only contains 60% of the contacts that were originally on my phone (of course I would like to keep 100%).
I am thinking about deleting all contacts from gmail and from the phone, and downloading them from SE sync service. Does that work they way I'm hoping? I'm a bit worried about losing my phone contacts from SE sync service.
Any advice?
Also, is there a way to set up gmail contact list so that the phone's contacts stay in one folder, while e-mail contacts stay in another folder?
(I do have some "phone contacts" with e-mail addresses, some "e-mail contacts" with phone numbers, etc, which might complicate things.)

If you go to Phonebook>Menu (left button)>Display group (or something similar)>Contacts with phonenumber , then all contacts without a nummer will be hidden.

Thanks for the tip... However, I do have some "phone contacts" with e-mail addresses, some "e-mail contacts" with phone numbers. I don't need all those contacts twice.

Merging these contacts on gmail.com>contacts using your computer would be the easiest and fastest thing to do I guess.
Or make a new group in the gmail contacts and transfer all your phonecontacts to that group, then let the x10 only show the contacts in the new group.

[Q]Updating google contacts with my android contacts

i want to know how to make my gmail contacts same as my android , let me clarify it , when i save a new contact to my android i only see it on my phone but it not exist on my gmail contacts, i tried to export contacts from my phone but i only get ability to export to sd card not to gmail, is there any way that makes the update in the real time with no need to backup or export ? and if not so what is the best way to export contacts to gmail!
I always thought when you made a new contact it says "1: Save to Gmail 2: Save to SIM 3: Save to Phone" and if you select Save to Gmail it automatically links to your Gmail account?
I hope anyways, i've been doing that so when i try a new ROM wont need to re-enter all my contacts again lol

hi guys,
just simply create new contact in your Android cell phone /HD2 / or create a new contact online in your web browser and gmail account
go to Settings in your cell phone
then
Accounts and Sync /or something like that.. I have it in my own language/
and then you need to create or Add new account /gmail account/
you fill all the informations.. email, password and so...
after that you click on Synchronize and that's it
all your contacts from Android phone are in your gmail account and from your gmail account in your cell phone
it works great on my HTC HD2 with Android 2.2 Froyo
PS: works fine with gmail calendar too
I second what the above posted said. If its set to auto sync it will back them up when ever you add a new contact.
Ive been using it for a year now as I had a g1 before.

Sync contacts up to google account

My DHD can sync contacts down from Google. But If I add a contact on my phone it doesn't add the new additon online to my google account. Is this an android shortcoming or something I can do?
Thanks!
You have to save the new contact as a google contact, not a phone contact.
thanks, that option is availble for new contacts, but no apparent option to change an existing to a google contact?
Think when you look at a contact you can press in the upper right corner to make it a google contact. Or you can only show phone contacts and copy them to google contacts.
That option just links to other contacts. Maybe its another bug in the latest update? Thanks for your suggestions
Just a thought... What's wrong with just using the easy to use freeware Windows app MyPhoneExplorer to backup all contacts, notes, callendar appointments to your PC? Why risk broadcasting more sensitive info into the public domain (ie the internet?). I mean telcos here are Australia are known to hold txt messages on their servers for at least a few months (who knows maybe they store all your txt messages?). Also some have services that can backup all your contacts. I just question what could happen to this info in the wrong hands.

I dunno?....all sounds a bit paranoid to me. anyone with the technical know how to intercept my data over the air and decode it probably isn't intrested in getting thier hands on my Auntie Mary's home number or dave from the nags head's email address.
Govenments keep texts and emails in the intrest of national security. I don't mind if thats going to stop my head being blown off by terriorsts. The Telcos probably don't have the time to sit there going through everyone's text messages and looking at what kinky gear they've bought from ebay. I wouldn't get too bogged down in that.
Is there a way to change an existing contact from a phone contact to a google contact?
Thanks

As far as I know, there is no direct way.
If you have a lot of contacts to change from "phone" category to "google" category, a workaround is to export your contacts to sd, then import the vcf file from the sd into google on your pc. Then the contacts will sync down to your phone as google contacts.
