[Q] Everytime I turn on my S5 it says 'Live demo unit' - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I bought this phone for cheap from a friend and everytime I boot it up it says Live demo unit.
It also has the retail mode app, I managed to find the admin passwords for that and performed a factory reset but everything just comes back.
Dows anyone have an idea how I can get rid of this software and install the regular software?

It won't work demo units don't have Sim tray neither

Actually it does have a simtray and sd card slot that work fine
There must be a way to fix it somehow right

It's a normal device been locked in to retail mode we do this in our shop often.
To remove do a complete flash of stock firmware and factory reset before you boot up first time. If retail mode still is on, you need a Samsung rep. To remove the app since it's locked by a code from Samsung sales.

(Some?) Demo units do not carry radio's on board either, at least the Note 3 demo's didn't, they were totally different and wouldn't work with standard firmware.

Hi Daniel,
I actually found the admin code to unlock the retail mode online and when I disabled the retail mode app I tried resetting to factory settings but when it booted up again everything was restored like it was before
Also, can you tell me how I can firmware flash? I am very unexperienced when it comes to these things
Thanks!

Have a read through the guides for Odin and stock images etc, firstly you'll have to figure out which firmware you can potentially flash, but prior warning, if the device doesn't like the firmware (demos units don't usually like anything but demo fw) it'll send you into a softbrick which can be unrecoverable.
It's a risk messing around, but like I said have a good read and if/when you feel comfortable to experiment then you can have a crack at it if you feel ready :good:

Sure go to sammobile.com register as a user, use the firmware database to find your desired firmware, download Odin 3.09 and extract the firmware and Odin.
Boot the phone in download mode by holding volume down and home button simultaneously when powering on.
Open Odin and ad the tar.md5 as AP.
Make sure only f. Reset time and auto reboot is checked.
Press start and let Odin flash
Now usually the phone would just flash the firmware and reboot if so you need do more, maybe do a factory reset if your csc hasn't changed according to the firmware.
Some people including my self have had some issues with the hidden.img.ext4 part of the firmware it flashes fine to the phone but Odin fails and the phone reports invalid ext4, ignore this for now but do not reboot the phone.
Unplug the USB cable reset Odin and plug the phone back in the add the PIT file from this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=51998616
make sure repartion is now checked, Press start let Odin flash the phone will afterwards boot automatically.
Beware the PIT file is for SM-G900F 16gb EU using this file on other models may softbrick the device.

Since your device has Sim slot it's probably not a true demo unit, simply a normal unit turned into a retail show model. so any model specific firmware should do, what model is your device?

My device is SM-G900X 16gb EU, why can't I find the firmware for SM-G900X anywhere online?
Can I just use the SM-G900F firmware?
Sorry if I seem like a noob but I want to be very careful

Not really sure, the EU one wasn't easy to find. But it should be possible to find.

If it only has WiFi radio on board as I suspected then yes, I am afraid there is no way to make this a working phone, either return or take the hit and use as a media player.

Sadly mot the device has no radio board as the note 3 demo units correctly stated earlier in the thread.
It only has wifi, so it more like a little wifi tablet.

GT-i9505x Recovery

Hello, i own a 9505x not a normal 9505, and flashing the existing custom recoveries, do nothing, since i cant boot them.
The root works fine.
Since this 9505x is a demo unit, it has some software restrictions i want to eliminate, like it wont turn off the screen and will keep on playing a Samsung demo, it wont take over 20seconds videos and some other annoying stuff, i am trying to make it a retail unit.
Any suggestions ?
Why did you post this here in "Android Development"?
Can some admin post it in q and a?
Noone owns one?
same here mate!
i got my hands on a i9505X at work (with sim tray and mmc slot) but i can't deactivate demo (retail) mode. everytime you poweroff the device it wipes every change.
it tried flashed a i9505 stock rom via Odin and it fails in the modem.bin part...
i was sucesslfull at rooting the device, but now my i9505X takes ages to boot (stuck in Samsung Galaxy S4 for a while) and has no wifi
i tried almost every i9050 kernel available with no luck...
any ideas?

Its working, i just messed up the recovery mode by flashing a i9505 recovery and now i cant restore it. I want to unroot it and flash the mew firmware from kies. Thats why i need the stock recovery
Any chance you can extract the stock firmware for your GT-I9505X and upload it please. I have the same device given to me by a Samsung Rep and I stupidly tried to install the stock formware for the i9500 varient and now its had it. It loads the samsung boot screen as soon as you turn it on and then just keeps restarting every 5 seconds. Im hoping if I can get hold of the original firmware and reflash it will work! Cant find the firmware anywhere!

ROM for the P8?! is it possible???

Hello Everybody,
I am an owner of Huawei P8 and have some experience on root and flash . Now I asked but firmly the garkein Custom Rom there for Huawei . What do you think will be this as it may do in the near future a little ? Otherwise I probably made the wrong decision .
What I find very impressive is that there are several custom ROM for my Xixoon , and that was a really cheap China phone .
Best Regards from Germany
Hi, I like the overall speed of this ROM. Thanks.
I only have an annoying problem: when I clock the Home button to wake up the de vice it takes sometimes about 10 seconds. Randomly. If I click it twice it wakes up immediatly.
Anyone else has this?
I also look for a custom rom, something like CM12 or other thats close to "stock" Android.

Help needed P8 bricked following OTA update
Firstly sorry to post in this thread but I don't appear to be allowed to start a new one. I need help, I took an OTA update this morning on my GRA-L09, it was about 108mb and I think it was to update to B161 but I might be wrong on that. Update downloaded OK and appeared to install OK as well but on reboot its stuck on the Huawei logo and no matter how long I leave it wont go any further. I can get into recovery (stock) and factory reset but this doesn't seem to function properly, it starts to countdown the %age completed but when it gets to about 10% it jumps to complete and invites a reboot but that just takes me to the logo and no further. Bootloader is unlocked and the phone is rooted but I didn't think that would be a barrier to accepting an OTA. HiSuite doesnt recognise that the device is connected and I'm stumped. Can anyone help me out of this mess?

What you can try is : get into bootloader mode, or recovery. Try to do adb reboot fastboot, and flash TWRP, do factory reset from that. If that doesnt work, you can get a friend who has P8 to backup via TWRP and restore to your device?
I can look into the exact commands in about 10 hours
Main focus : try to get into Fastboot mode, and flash twrp (if you know how to)

Flashed TWRP and now it isnt booting to system or bootloader -_-
What caused it : I used ADB reboot recovery... What now ._.
If its only reboot to twrp you need to turn off your phone.
If you dont have a update.app in your dload folder please press vol+ and vol - and your power button. Then its reboot into recovery and there you can boot system ..
Its a twrp bug

Ya, so I messed up and not i'm soft bricked. please help

So... I haven't rooted in a while, and after rooting my girlfriends note, i decided to check to see if a root was out for my sm-g928t (had the phone since the day it came out and been on these forums every once and a while looking)
so I searched and found this
(guess I cant post links) its the root from android soul.. i googled "edge plus root"
I can read and follow instructions, and I did. (although the disable "find my phone" completely was kind of ambiguous i just turned off all options inside of the menu)
Anyways, odin works, passes and then my phone reboots. it started up normally and then i unlock it to use it and BAM, it reboots. Repeats this process multiple times. I delete cache, no help.
So I look over the forums and see someone says their tmobile edge+ reboots when it tries to connect to wifi. So I scramble to put my phone into airplane mode after a reboot. This actually works, so I wonder where to go from there..
This is where things get crappy. I open supersu, and check the uninstall/disable button in the options. Whatever, I think, this should stop my phone from rebooting when it gets tries to connect to wifi. I uncheck airplane mode and as soon as it connects to my 4g network(my wifi was off) bam, another reboot. THIS TIME, it gets stuck at the tmobile screen. looks like the led is kinda pulsing. it persists so long I restart the phone in recovery, delete the cache again. Same result. use the autoroot again through odin (this called flashing?) same result. I am currently downloading firmware from samsung although I am not 100% confident I know how to flash it back. same process as the autoroot?
Anyways, I'm guess I'm asking how I can do, in order of what I want the most to least..
1. Complete the root/supersu whatever. I havent rooted in a long time so I'm not even sure what I want (besides xposed. looks dope)
2. Remove the root and return to the state before I got the bright idea of messing with my 900$ phone.
3. Reset my phone to factory
Otherwise I'll just "lose it" and file insurance.
Oh yeah, earlier I said I can read and follow directions. Yeah, I didn't follow the directions of backing up the phone before I did the auto root. Yeah, dumb move, right?
Thanks for the help.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 LTE AT&T SM-T337A bootloop Help.

I've scoured the net all day and I cannot find a way to fix my new tablet. I thought I had it on http://forum.xda-developers.com/tab-4/general/link-original-firmware-images-tab-4-7-t2978495 but I got a 404 error. Does anyone have that file?
I had forgotten that you could not do a permanent root on 5.1.1 and used kingo root on it. Now i'm in deep trouble. My new unlocked (once at&t) tablet is boot looped and it has the custom icon, which means once the seller sees that they will know that I tried to root it if they are techy enough. So I must at least get rid of the custom before I can send it off to them for a replacement. (I might be able to blame it on a kid but I don't know how that will fly) I've tried kies, odin and everything else I can find but haven't be able to fix it. So I was hoping that someone here could advise me. I don't care about the info on it, that's replaceable but I really want to know how to fix my tablet. I can get it into recovery mode and download mode but it's stuck on the at&t logo. Can anyone help me? Thanks
From now on I'll leave lollipop alone

I wound up returning mine to the seller....they accepted my explanation and agreed to RMA it. I wont touch this next one, I learned my lesson. Samsung loves to lock the boot loader, I'm lucky it didn't happen to my old note 4 when kingroot unlocked it. It's a shame we cant find or make a good flashable image for odin. Then it would be safe to play. But I know nothing about android except how to use it.

Samsung loves to lock the boot loader, I'm lucky it didn't happen to my old note 4 when kingroot unlocked it. It's a shame we cant find or make a good flashable image for odin. Then it would be safe to play. But I know nothing about android except how to use it.

After you fix it. Root with Kingroot only and you will be fine. Then search for triangle away online, you can get it free. Open that up and click to reset counter. That will remove the custom lock that you are seeing. Every time you reboot, you will lose root, just reroot with Kingroot and you will be fine.

So I ran it in Odin in the AP slot. It runs all the way through and succeeds however when it boots up it is still stuck on the ATT logo... is there any settings within Odin I have to change possibly?

Glad to help out. It is safe to root it with Kingroot but after you reboot, root will be lost. Just reroot with Kingroot and you will be rooted again without a problem. Ive been working on a way to maintain root but no luck yet. Just don't replace Kingroot with SuperSU or you will brick it again but at least it can be fixed again if you do brick.
Link please

Can anyone tell me how to deal with my Samsung Galaxy A7(2016),SM-A7100

As the title says I am facing a really big problem.
Yesterday I installed Hong Kong ver. os to my 7100 for fun but it has too much apps i hate so I want to install another OS but I forgot to log off from my Google ID.
So there it goes.
Now I can't boot to Android because it will stuck in to "SAMSUNG" and never goes further.
And I can't access to Recovery because it was banned from FRP.
And I can't install a new one via Odin because it is also banned !
Can anyone give me a advice?
THANKS.
What do you mean with banned? You can't be banned from download mode.
Post the odin log. It may help to see where the problem is.
