GT-i9505x Recovery - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, i own a 9505x not a normal 9505, and flashing the existing custom recoveries, do nothing, since i cant boot them.
The root works fine.
Since this 9505x is a demo unit, it has some software restrictions i want to eliminate, like it wont turn off the screen and will keep on playing a Samsung demo, it wont take over 20seconds videos and some other annoying stuff, i am trying to make it a retail unit.
Any suggestions ?

Why did you post this here in "Android Development"?

Can some admin post it in q and a?

Noone owns one?

same here mate!
i got my hands on a i9505X at work (with sim tray and mmc slot) but i can't deactivate demo (retail) mode. everytime you poweroff the device it wipes every change.
it tried flashed a i9505 stock rom via Odin and it fails in the modem.bin part...
i was sucesslfull at rooting the device, but now my i9505X takes ages to boot (stuck in Samsung Galaxy S4 for a while) and has no wifi
i tried almost every i9050 kernel available with no luck...
any ideas?

Mate can you pull the stock recovery and send it to me? I can tell you how to unlock retail mode and the security dongle.

Kernel wont do anything for you, restore it and it will be fine. Did you succeed in pulling the recovery?

Why do you need to make the demo unit work?

Its working, i just messed up the recovery mode by flashing a i9505 recovery and now i cant restore it. I want to unroot it and flash the mew firmware from kies. Thats why i need the stock recovery

Any chance you can extract the stock firmware for your GT-I9505X and upload it please. I have the same device given to me by a Samsung Rep and I stupidly tried to install the stock formware for the i9500 varient and now its had it. It loads the samsung boot screen as soon as you turn it on and then just keeps restarting every 5 seconds. Im hoping if I can get hold of the original firmware and reflash it will work! Cant find the firmware anywhere!

[Q] Galaxy S4 GT-i9505 hard brick

Hi Guys,
I havent used this site in years but recently I bought a Galaxy S4 outright from JBHIFI.
Before you guys give me alot of crap, I have a very bad feeling that I may have hard bricked it.
It doesnt turn on anymore, not even in recovery or download mode. I am very new to android as I was using an iPhone before and couldn't resist attempting to root my phone (stock program were killing my battery)
I hadn't even had the chance to flash a custom rom on there as far as i know i just grated root access.
Funny thing is it was doing the same thing the other day. But randomly it decided to charge and turn on. Now it is definitely not charging or turning on and i have no idea what to do... it just sucks cause i havent ever this phone for a month and its already useless! :crying:
I was using it for about a week after i rooted and now im just stuck with a brick.
Any help would greatly be appreciated, feel free to ask any questions.
Send back t store and thel t workers that just whont turn on.Dhont thel that is rooted or somthing

yeah thats what im planning to do its about exactly a month since i had it today... i just didnt want to mention anything cause i know you guys and moderaters dont condone that kind of behaviour! thanks though, im pretty much screwed arent i? ill be heading into jbhifi on my lunch break will go ahead with that plan haha.
ill tell you guys how it goes.
Have you tried a battery pull?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using xda app-developers app
sorry... is that just taking the battery out? LOL if so, yes ive tried it quite a few times.
at one stage it was turning on but only loading the splash screen... so i pulled the battery out. even if i tried to start it in recovery mode, it would only load the blue text at the top of the screen and then freeze.
i have a mate who also got an s4 so i was going to meet up with them and see if i could use their battery because it seems the phone has even lost its capability to charge.

that seems very useful, but to use it i would have to be in download mode atleast right? problem is i cant even turn on phone to get into download mode
didnt go jbhifi today had to fix my rims instead LOL, trying other solutions and finding a spare battery to see if its just that... maybe then it will beable to atleast boot in download mode

No, you don't have to be in download mode. Install right driver, connect your phone to pc and run the program. Then it will be in download mode, so flash firmware with pit file
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
well so far... i tried this at work and no luck, so i went home and tried it there... still no luck.
you mentioned i need to install the right driver? is that the QHSUSB drivers? (where can i find them and are they specific for the S4) anyway when i plug my phone into the computer there is no indication that it is being detected at all.
just hoping to try out more suggested solutions before i attempt to take it back into the store and have em tell me that my warranty is cooked
Hi just an update.
Took my phone to samsung because it was just completely screwed. They replaced the motherboard and camera but didnt find out that my phone was rooted which was good.
Thanks for your help everyone
*edit*
After they said they replaced my camera i am now getting the "camera app failed" message, wheres theres a black screen and the app doesnt work... ive had it with this phone now... going to walk into samsung and lose my ****.

Don't bash the phone for nothing ...
Somehow I doubt that they didn't test the camera after replacing it.
Next time, take it easy, and what ever you do, read carefully the instructions.

My galaxy S4 is "hard bricked" as well after trying to flash OMEGA ROM onto the device. My guess is that somebody mislabeled the ROM and it was intended for the octal-core processors and not the US quad-core ones.
Does anyone have a link for the qualcomm drivers that are needed? I'm at a loss currently in regards of which direction to take.
Thanks in advance,

i know... its just frustrating... i pretty much got it when it came out and convinced all my mates that it was the best phone out there at the moment (all the features are pretty nifty and its powerful ill admit)
funny thing was the camera was working perfectly before i took it in and didnt even think it needed replacing. the camera worked when i got it back the first time i opened the app but it had smearing (pink vertical lines on bright objects). after that it the app didnt open again and just has the "camera app failed" error.
as for the hardbrick guys i think the qualcomm drivers work but only if you can get your phone to turn on or enter d/l mode. mine was so fried out that it wouldnt show any signs of life even after getting the drivers.

This was also samersh72's suggestion when i bricked mine. Problem is, there was no way for me to acces that qhusb mode thing as the phone was totally dead and doesn't even charge.
Jtag could probably revive it though.
Anyway, sent mine for repairs with
custom binary status and the samsung guys accepted it as there was no way for them to revive the phone(the motherboard was replaced). They didn't found out that it was modified.

5 - flash the kernel with "Install" recovery option
6 - after that Wipe and Format every thing you can! (system, cache, etc...)
7 - Flash the stock Rom ( may have some error for the modem.bin but no matter )
8 - This may work now!

No problem man I don't own the phone, I'm really thinking of buying it. If I will, I'll try to make it a real phone. With sim and 4g. But that is very hard.

help .. HARD BRICKED NOTE 3 N9005 UK

Hi i have managed to hard brick my NOTE 3 N9005 International version <<stupid i know
I really need someone to help me ( a developer possibly??) and help me obtain the UNBRICK.img from the note 3 source code for the

hey thanks for the reply,
no as the phone is hard bricked its 100% unusable, if it would even switch on that would be fantastic.
its more complex than soft brick.
im having the same problem... is your note alive again?
Return it and claim warranty, tell them that your phone suddenly went off and that you don't know the reason. They may replace the board for you.
wow thats sad

Then it's up to you to convince your client to return it to Samsung for warranty. As for recovering his data, that is the hard part.

Do you mean the bootloader that needs to be written as T-Flash to a microsd using Odin 3.09 or higher? (as per 13-58_SM-N900_Boot_Recovery_Guide_rev1.0.pdf) Isn't that just the same as sboot.bin written raw to first sectors of microsd?
I would be interested to hear if you managed to use that just for the "extreme hacking" angle of it :good:

hi sorry way over my head
this was back in October. I tried using an unbrick.img for the sm905 N3 Flashed to microsd and I was supposed to just
put in the sd card in my phone so it could boot into download mode but was unsuccessful as I needed an unbrick.img made up for my device
model sm9005. hope that helps.
Thanks

I do not think the microsd is enough - the Note3 ONLY boots from microsd if you short R4075 on the mainboard - there is a notice from Samsung service somewhere around with a name like 13-58_SM-N900_Boot_Recovery_Guide_rev1.0.pdf that describes the details (and comes with a good picture of what you need to short).
Riff box . Jtag will fix it :^) ..

I have the same problem -but a recovery loop. I can't get my phone into either download or recovery mode. So what options are there to fix this loop?

Take the battery out to power off the device then try getting into Download mode, reflash your Firmware and voila you're good to go

If you did not fix it in any other way maybe you need to look at this thread:

Please post there if you get any results.

Your EFS is warped, flash THIS and it'll fix it for you. This happens at random and isn't really a user error IMO

Umm not sure if it can be done without, you could try and if no good you'd have to use one.
Get yourself an sd card. You can't access internal memory so you are screwed until you get one...
You need to also tell us what version of Android you are on as the can be a deciding factor in what you need to do... Some things that will fix one version of android won't help the next... If you don't know what this means you should do A LOT of reading before trying this stuff again, read about Kitkat and Jellybean...

You right, i should read about it alot more.
I rooted my Galaxy s Advanced already with a noob guide, so i fould it would be easy to do it again.
Guys, im verry frustrated now, im a real noob who fold he could do this easily, without thinking or reading anything i tried to flash my demo unit.
Now i have a huge problem because this phone is not mine.
Anyone who has a solution, the thing earlier pronounced in this topic didnt help.
Get yourself a stock rom and flash it using ODIN and stock recovery might do the trick but make SURE you flash the CORRECT ROM.
Correct rom depends on what you had running. If you where running kitkat you MUST flash kitkat again. If you had 4.3 you better stick to that until it's up and running again.

Ahh, not you did not mention you had a DEMO unit. That changes everything.. As DEMO unit's don't have radio's in them so you cannot flash a modem from what I am aware..

DEMO units don't have radios?
That's new to me.
So Samsung actually goes through the effort of separately manufacturing them....weird Sammy.

Yeah they don't have a radio on the MB - guess it's to stop people actually using the device early etc -- They use specially adapted firmware also

In my country (India), they just keep the Snapdragon version (official is the Exynos) for DEMO pieces and just rely on the region lock to keep people out.
I tried so hard to buy one of them, but nobody agreed. Finally got mine from overseas.
