I have been suffering with poor battery life for many months now, I have tried all the obvious solutions, even going back to a fresh re flash with no other apps and still the same (i.e. barely a day with moderate usage).
Then it occurred to me that I used to get at least 2.0 or 1.5 days with moderate usage for the first 6 months.
I confirmed a while back my battery was no the bad batch.
Anyway finally I source a direct genuine replacement from Handtech for £10.
I swapped the battery (no other changes at all) and voila, I would say back to original expectation
Reflecting back, the battery charging and during use would get very warm (not a good sign) but there was no sign of battery swelling, etc...
With the new battery even after a long first charge the handset was completely cold.
interesting...
How long you used the original battery?
I know some Iphones that still last a day with single charge after 5 years of usage. So the battery still keeps the charge. My 3 year old Galaxy S2 still keeps the charge but not as good as new one. So at least Samsung batteries becomes weaker over the time significantly.

Original battery was barely 1 year old.
I don't overcharge and normally cycle it once every few months (complete discharge and charge).
I am now 20% down after 8 hrs, with the old battery it would probably be about 40% down.
It's amazing how much we actually use our phones in a given day! Rate this thread to express how many hours of screen-on time you can get on the Note5 before depleting the battery.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
I usually get around 3.5-4 hours of screen on time before the phone needs a power-up.
So today is one of my heavy usage days. This is how it goes pretty much. Wake up around 6 am get, get on my phone, check notifications, hop on a few social games, get on social media, watch videos from social media, check my favorite website, get on some games, check some more websites, battery gets a little low so I charge up, and while it's charging I get my day started.
That's heavy usage for me and thats what I did all day today so far. Here's some screenshots just prior to me writing this post, tell me what you think.
Now some might think it's bad, but I've been on my phone pretty much non stop.
i'm getting 30-40 min more than the S6 edge ussually 4 hours screen on time, auto brightness, mobile data, wifi, 3 gmail sync, Facebook and messenger...I probably wouldn't get this phone if it wasn't for the quick charge ability.
I am very happy with battery life. I don't game and I don't watch tons of YouTube and I'm connected to a WiFi network most of the day. But this is the best in terms of battery life of any phone i have ever had, including the one plus one. Typically get 8 to 10 hours screen on time but I've gotten as high as 12 before. Auto brightness, location disabled most of the time. Stock, 200+ apps disabled with package disabler pro.

Averaging 5-7 hours on a busy day, everything is turned on except for a few bloat apps which are disabled.
I dont understand how you use you phone for 12 hours in a day..Do you have a job? I will get up at 7am and talk maybe for an hour on my phone and have 3 hrs max screen on time before I end my day at 10 pm with 45% battery left..more or less.
I'm seeing about 7 hours SOT. Auto brightness, nothing disabled, syncs on.

Its impossible for 12h SOT.. can you share some screenshoot for sot 12h without charging from 100% until 1%.. i dont belive if no screen shoot..
My device is on battery for 4 hours 37 minutes 51 seconds since last charge.
SOT is 58 minutes 36 seconds.
My battery percentage is 74%.
Is this normal or bad ??
I purchased my phone for yesterday and charged it till full. I never charge for continuous 8 hours.
Is this normal or bad ? Shall i charge it for 8 hours ?
Typical days my battery only lasts about 12-13hours before its sub 10%. Some days it's better but typical office days are rather poor battery life from past android and iOS devices with similar use. Attached are my thumbnails. As you can see I am only getting 2 hours of screen on time. It def appears I have an issue with my Moto 360 using excessive battery and I am not sure why as most things are disabled on the watch and the watch battery is usually north of 75% when I goto bed.
Ever since I reset my phone back to factory resettings (rooting caused my phone to slow down), i've been experiencing some great battery life and smoothness(obviously)
6 hours SOT with 7% left. 1 day and 6+ hours of regular usage, nothing too heavy.
YRAJ23- Thats perfectly normal. It should come out to around 4 hours of SoT. You can charge the phone for 8 or more hours because it knows when to stop charging. You cannot overcharge any modern smartphone.
U should get at least 5hrs sot unless playing games and watching YouTube! Disable Samsung and Google bloats like Google+ and use Greenify app from Oasis Feng on play store to hibernate most of your downloaded apps which cause battery drain. Put your brightness in the 40-60% and if possible ideally in the 25% range indoors!
Ive been debating picking up a note 5 now that is avail in Canada in 64gb and silver but reading through this has me reconsidering.
I get better battery life from both my current devices and without being able to swap batteries 4 to 5hrs SOT is not ideal given my lifestyle/ work schedule

Fairly normal 2.5-3.5 hours on weekdays, bc school WiFi drains battery like ****. On weekends typically average 3.5 on 3G/LTE because reception where I live isn't exactly top notch. At home however, 5-6 hours is pretty much the norm, bc my home WiFi rocks.
I normally get 15-16 hours on battery with 4-5 hours of screen on time. i did a video playing a game and timing it. if you want to check it out here from the video you'll see depending on your settings i could get between 4-6 hours of onscreen time with goat sim running.

Exact same here, yet I see these people with 6, 7 even 8 hours of screen time on one charge. How? Are they sitting there with WiFi and the cell radio turned off, just watching clips and doing offline stuff? I just don't understand how they can manage to pull that many hours out of the battery. I struggle to break past 4 hours. But 8? Freaking double? I'm not buying it.
I did buy one..... waiting but I hope the battery life is going to be excellent.
The size of the battery is not huge and even though they say excellent battery life Google does not give you stats.
Screen on "50%" how long....
Can you wake up 6am set the phone in charger at midnight and still have battery?
Me I typically play a game, use my language learning programs a few hours a day.
Check maybe 20 emails, and 20 text messages.
Location services and bluetooth are always on. (need them for Play services and Android Wear)
And I believe and I hope the device proves me wrong but if I know it will be a long time between charges I will need to modify usage.
Is the type of usage I go through unreasonable ?
Yet all they say is you can get 7 hours of usage (what type of usage?) in 15 minutes.
So you are in the airports all day the battery is at 20% and you need to have the charger with you and find an outlet.
1) do not always have the charger handy
2) can not always find A/C
Does anybody really expect better battery life than with other phones ?
I am wrong Google did post some stats
3,450 mAh battery
Standby time (LTE): up to 23 days
Talk time (3g/WCDMA): up to 32 hours
Internet use time (Wi-Fi): up to 14 hours
Internet use time (LTE): up to 14 hours
Video playback: up to 14 hours
Audio playback (via headset): up to 130 hours
I should have no problem going through a long day moderate usage if this is correct.

They stated similar stats when they released the 6P (the shop page was deleted so I can't paste them) and I got one....
Best screen-on-time I can get is 5 hours (with custom rom, custom kernel and a lot of system tweaks).
Don't rely on those stats, they were (in the best case) made under ideal conditions (probably in a lab) or (and that's rather the case) just calculated and without promise....
I am somewhat underwhelmed with the 6P battery life, but I'm stock as I can't root per company policies.
Hoping the Pixel XL will be better. Or at least same... If it is worse, then it will be going back in the 14 day return window.
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
Potentially we're looking at better stats.
Same size battery in a smaller body with a smaller screen and Supposed CPU optimisations, could explain the underclock.
My 6p makes it through the day without a charge, but I'm never far from an outlet, car charger or power bank just in case. Now that I've USB C proofed my home and office the rapid charging serves its purpose.
We've all seen the garbage spouted about days of battery life before and usage varies so much per user it's hard to compare. As they say the proof is in the pudding so we'll soon see, the price definitely isn't going up so why not wait and see?

Why not rely on Google's internal battery life tests?
They did the same for the 6P, so they can be compared.
All that matters in the end is how it really works for you, also stats are always overly optimistic. You buy a car an the dealer says the car is rated 5 litres per 100 km and every time the best your car does is 7 litres per 100km
What I had to do in the past is when I know I will be travelling without easy access to a charger is ration battery usage.
The stats though are encouraging hopefully and only time will tell is my next device I will not have to ration too much.
I really miss removable batteries remember the carefree way I used devices in the past with huge Zerolemon batteries. They will like sell a case for the Pixel XL but a case that adds battery capacity is not as elegant as just using a bigger battery.
The reviews on the battery life seem pretty terrible so far and is really worrying me as it was my only concern. I have been rocking a Hauwei Mate 8 recently, which I consistently get around 7 hr SOT. Reviews for Pixel XL are coming out at 3.5-4 hr, which is not good for how big it is. It has only a slightly smaller battery than the S7 Edge, but the Edge performs much better, I was getting 5-5 .5 hr SOT with my Edge before switching to Mate 8. Google Assistant always being present and doing stuff may be a pretty severe drain. Just as someone else mentioned, nice that we have a 15 day return window.

3-4 hours SOT sucks. Im getting 6 hours on 6p and 5 on Nexus 6
SOT is dependent on multiple factors, like what apps are running in background and what you do on the phone. Web browsing habits of sites visited, some sites have a lot going on.

Where are you seeing these 3.5-4 hr SOT reviews??
Many of the reviews that came out yesterday gave the Pixel highly positive ratings on battery. MKBHD said he got 6hrs SOT on full brightness, Dieter at the Verge said it might be the best battery life of any phone he'd ever used. Wired and a couple others also noted it as a high point. But then Mossberg said the smaller Pixel got so-so battery, and I think one of the Android Authority guys also called it average.
So... it sounds like basically any other Android phone. Varies highly for different people.

Pretty sure the AA review, he was getting 3.5-4 hours for battery life and called it good/above average, which is not. I remember his specifically because that is where I got the idea that google assistant could be having a large impact if used heavily, which he said he was using heavily. I don't remember MKBHD saying 6 hours but I would have to go rewatch. I know I saw at least 2 reviews that said 3.5-4 ish and they both called it good. Which makes me worry that all the other reviews that called it good without giving specific numbers were under this same impression. I watched a crap ton of reviews, many didn't give specific stats. They must be comparing it to htc10, lg g5 and iphone to consider that good, leaving samsung as the only outstanding if they are considering that anywhere near good.

I wouldn't put too much stock in the first charge out of the box but that is still not a good indication. No bueno. Guess I have two weeks to try it out.

That's what I have been wanting to hear! Would you be willing to post some screen shots of your battery life, etc before you plug her in tonight. How heavily have you been using the new assistant? have you done anything to customize your settings like turn off always listening or anything like that, adaptive screen brightness, etc?
MKBHD on Twitter
I got mine yesterday at 5pm, Used it straight, setting it up with everything turned on and screen @ %100 (setup, music, movies, games) and it died after 5.5 hours. It was also on 86% charge when i got it.

Right now, no tweaks everything turned on (assistant, always listening, Bluetooth, wifi).
Mostly web browsing. 15 minutes or so of Clash Royale. On wifi most of the day. Auto brightness.
Looks like about 6h SOT if I took it to empty.

No real life review thread on this one yet, so let's get the ball rolling on this. Any Telstra customers with their device have anything to say on this?
I haven't felt the need to charge mine yet. Because I don't have one.
And no one still share his battery life...
Can you share with us guys? Like guys with Pixel XL did
So, i'm gonna give it a go.
I am really satisfied with the battery life after three days of being a daily driver.
After my day of work it has 31% left with google assistant/now, 70% WiFi 30% LTE, Bluetooth always on, auto adjust brightness 3.56 hours display time, most of the time i used chrome.
No pics because i don't know to add them via mobile browser.
For now: much better than my old nex5 and OnePlusX.
I like!
I just got mine today and fully charged it and then synced my n5x, rebooted and it was down to 90%. Highly intensive processing so I'll not judge by that. Did some more setup, charged again. Phone call for about 30 min, down to 95%. Not bad but not great. It's way too early for me to make a determination as some here have been running it for 3 days with better results.
I'll either update this post or make a new one depending on traffic. Overnight will tell me a lot. I've been getting about 0.5% - 0.8% / hour drain overnight on my 5x so let's see how this one does. One thing I will say is that the phone is beautiful, great size, great feel. great display and quick as a bug. If the battery holds up it's a definite keeper for sure. If any of you have an iPhone 6 or 6s, put them side by side and I dare you to tell them apart. lol.
There is another thread on this but my battery is abysmsl
Google Play services battery drain. No unusual apps, pretty much out of the box because its getting replaced already due to screen issues. Not sure why...
I have really high android OS usage, but still get great battery life. 4 hours SOT, 16 hours usage. Will be interesting to see what i can get when I find the cause of this Android OS drain
Phone calls kill me but otherwise not looking too bad.

The phone lasts me the entire day, but by the end of the day its pretty close to dying out.
So not as good as my S7 Edge, or even close, however it's good enough.
I charge my phone every night, anyways, so doesn't really bother me.
I was less than impressed to be honest. I'll know more when I actually spend a few days with it out and in use.
I must not use my phone all that much. So far, extremely better battery than my iPhone 5s. I guess it is a doubling in mAh but also a bigger screen. I am happy with it so far.
Definitely doesn't charge to 70% in 15 minutes though like they bragged about.

Well they said "7 hours of use" from 15 minutes of charging, whatever the hell that means lol.
Coming from a Galaxy S6 Edge I am very happy with my battery life. Currently I'm at 1 day 5 hrs with 2 hrs 5 min phone calls and 1 hr 47 min of screentime with about an hour of music in there....right now I have 28% left. I typically use my phone for browsing the web, chatting, work email and facebook so all in all I'm very pleased.

They never said that. They said 7 hours of use in 15 minutes.
I'm actually pretty happy with it so far. I have the regular Pixel and in my few full days of normal usage I'm getting through the day pretty easily. 8AM - 11PM or so leaves me with about 10% left on the phone, and usually approx 4.5 hours of screen on time. This is especially impressive to me since this is with GPS ON, Bluetooth ON, mostly on LTE with only "ok" reception in my office, auto-brightness set half way, everything syncing, connected to my gear fit 2. That's definitely better than I got on the 5x and way better than I was getting on my last phone - the galaxy s7. I was getting maybe at most 3.5 hours screen on time with the S7, and that was with GPS OFF, brightness set to around 30% or as low as I could set it and still see clearly, and even with a ROM that included battery optimizations (and yes it did seem to provide slightly more battery than stock).
So this is great thus far. If I were going out late or something after work then I would probably top it up, but otherwise this is the first time in awhile I haven't felt the compulsion to constantly plug in my phone when I get a chance for fear it will die on me. I also hope that this will only improve as development picks up and people release optimized ROMs/Kernels.
Can someone with good battery life compare this to what they get?
13 hours
at 64%
Android System 176mah
Android OS 156mah
Screen 1hr 15m (151mah)
Voice Calls 15m (88mah)

"which Google said can deliver up to 70 percent in after 15 minutes on a charger."

Overall I'm really satisfied with the battery. after a night and day of heavy use, games, browsing, installing apps I'm still at 20%. Hardly any power drained in standby.
Decent
Battery has been pretty good for me so far. Seems to be settling in with optimization after a few days. Dropped 0% overnight last night which is awesome.
GSAM Monitor is saying my average is 19 hrs on, 4.5 hours of screen on time usage, 1-2 hours of screen off usage like phone calls, music.
It's amazing how much we actually use our phones in a given day, especially when we watch "videos"! Rate this thread to express how many hours of screen-on time you can get on the Moto G6 before depleting the battery.

Second day of use with the g6 I got around 8 hours of SoT before the battery saver kicked in. My first day I got 7 hours SoT (I was also rebooting the phone a bit getting tweaks to work) I can't speak for the remaining 2 hours it claims, but I will say the battery life prediction was accurate all day. Early morning it was estimating 10hrs of life left, and that is pretty consistent.
I kept my usage pretty typical of how I use my phone on a day to day. My usage was a mix of listening to music (on device and casting), streaming video, texts, snapchat, web browsing, and a little PokémonGo. The one thing to note is that this was on wifi the whole day, YMMV if you're on cell signal.
Overall I'm simply blown away by how much performance this slim phone has. I came from the Moto X Pure (XT1575) which would get 3 hours SoT on a good day. I was only expecting maybe 4-5 hours from the g6, but to get 3x what my old phone had is life changing.
I've only had this phone for a bit over 24 hours, and I'm impressed with overall battery performance.
I've got no Wi-Fi connection at home, so I was expecting worse, but I got 4 hours of SOT today from 100% to 6%, and I'm perfectly happy with that. This is after 2 hours of streaming from YouTube, and the rest dedicated to social media, downloading apps, a little bit of gaming, and general internet browsing (on full brightness the entire time). It's way better than any other phone I've owned. My Axon 7 Mini would've been on its death bed hours earlier.
I think it's absolutely amazing the battery life this device has! Almost 7 hours of screen on the and 16.5 since last charge is just insane. My Nexus 6P would quit after about 3 hours of screen time.

Are you sure you're on a G6 and not a G6 Play? I see 8, maybe 9 hours OST on my 4000 mah G6 play. Im highly doubtful of a regular 8 hr OST with a 3,000mah battery. Can you post any more OST of this nature and also what "tweaks" you've done. Im sure people would like to know how you doubled OST of this phone.

I am certain I am on the regular G6. The reason why the G6 can match SoT with the G6 Play while having a smaller battery is because the Snapdragon 450 is just that much more power efficient over the 430. Qualcomm claims the 450 is 30% more efficient over the 435 (I couldn't find any data on it vs the 430, but we can assume it is at least 30%). This explains how regular gets around the same SoT with 25% less battery capacity.
As far as tweaks, the only power saving measure I use is the app Naptime. It uses the aggressive doze feature in Oreo to save battery life when the screen is off. This has saved me countless times when I forget to plug in my phone at night, or if the power goes out while I'm asleep. I haven't tested it too extensively, but it seems to bring the screen off drain to ~1% per hour.

Impressive! Yes I love naptime, excellent app. I get about 2 days, with 8-9 hours OST. Wife gets 7-8 but it lasts over 3 days, light use. Thanks for the reply!
Well, I've achieved 10 hours and 5 minutes of 'Screen on Time' here, five days after buying the G6, and after installing my usual complement of around 160 apps and then configured everything accordingly. I then just used the phone the way I normally use my phone. The device actually ran for 14 hours between charges, with 10 hours being Screen Time.
(See the composite screenshots below, taken from my G6 battery stats screens and also from the AccuBattery Pro app.)
I didn't do anything unusual to achieve this impressive SoT figure. The screen brightness was low, but not unusually so. Most of the time, I was browsing via Chrome and I checked my emails several times and watched an hour or two of YouTube. I used the official Wikipedia app quite a lot and played a few rounds of chess with the DroidFish chess app in conjunction with the Komodo 11 chess engine, which I suppose is a bit CPU intensive... All of which is the extent of my gaming, that and Sudoku. I generally don't bother with high octane, graphics intensive video games - they don't do my blood pressure any favours?.
This 10 hour figure though, I suspect may not be typical ~ since then, I've been achieving around 8 to 8.5 hours SoT, with the brightness level higher, and using Google Maps more. Still pretty impressive for a 3000 mAh battery.

I bought the Moto G6 to replace my HTC One M8 whose battery, after nearly four years, was pretty much knackered! It kept crashing out when the battery dipped to around 70% charge - I had to re-flash it twice due to system corruption.
And so at just £220, I'm hugely impressed with the Moto G6 ~ it's a great replacement for my antiquated M8. It looks good, runs well and the battery performance is excellent. It might not be a Premium Flagship device, but I'm very, very happy with it.
Cheers, everybody?.

Just upgraded from a G6 play to G6. Wow! Getting about 7 hours OST and really good standy by. If this phone came with the 4000 mAh battery, it would be a beast. Impressive what a more efficient processor can do!
