Not that silly I've flashed plenty of recoverys/roms/kernel's on my old S3. But never ran into this error before.
Also tried TWRP, Same error. I'm not sure if it's the phone or windows 8.1 x64, But secure check fail points to the phone.. hmm

You shouldn't need to root before installing a custom recovery. I never have done on Samsung devices.

Yeah it doesn't matter what one you do first.
Is this a joke? I thought custom recovery was not possible on the S5.
Maybe my statement is only true for Vz.
What carrier are you on?

Hi there.
I'm still fairly new to this whole android world (flashing, rooting,...), so I already apologize in advance for any odd questions from my side, or should any of them sound a bit silly So I was wondering the following: I had Philz Touch Recovery on my previous phone (I9300), and had no issues with it or whatsoever. I've been flashing the Lollipop updated successfully and keeping my device up to date. Which was also the reason why I decided to go with the same recovery on my newer phone model (SM-G900F), which I acquired a couple of days ago. I've done 2 backups already (the so called "nandroid" backup and the backup of the first rom version I flashed).
However...when I was checking out the folder files on my SD card later on I realized that the date stated on those folders is not correct To give an example...my latest backup folders got named "2014-01-26.09.06.40_cm_klte-userdebug_5.1.1_LMY48W" So I was now wondering: does the date on those folders have anything to do here, also can I come across any issue while trying to restore to those backups later on (in case anything goes wrong in any of the future releases)? Due to the wrong stated date on those folders I mean...
Thanks in advance.
Hi all. I just got a second hand SM-G00F a few days ago. I succesfully rooted it, installed the XtreStoLite INTL 2.2 rom it as per the installation guide in that thread. I was able to get into TWRP as normal.
However, today I saw that there was an update in the rom thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=63522473&postcount=13226) with links to a 2.3 version, updated bootloader and modem files. After flashing the updated bootloader file with ODIN, i can no longer access TWRP (reactivation lock). I only flashed the bootloader/modem file, not the 2.3 rom. All via ODIN.
I then rebooted into download mode, and flashed the BL and modem files that was in the 2.2 thread again and the phone booted normally. But still, I can' t go into recovery anymore. Flashing anything besides bl or modem via odin seems to be impossible... I always get

On the phone screen in download mode, it says reactivation lock: on, know warranty void 0x1. After trying to flash, the line "secure check fail: recovery" is added.
From reading around, I gather the problem could well be with the previous owner having enabled the samsung reactivation lock function. But how can I untick this function since i can't find it in the current rom? And because of the nand write errors, I can't seem to flash to stock rom at the moment. Would that be a problem flashing a PIT file might fix? I've been trying and looking around for sollutions, but I can't seem to find what to do now...
What about if this happens and I'm in a bootloop?

So if I'm looping when I boot up, and obviously can't get to the settings in order to enable USB debugging, how can I "untick" it from stock recovery or Odin mode? ADB will not recognize the device, and I can't flash any custom recovery because of the auth fail secuirty check message. I know it's got to be Knox because in download mode it says "Reactivation Lock(KK)n." It's Android system recovery <3e> LRX21T.G900PVPU3OK4. I have Ubuntu-Mate 15.10, and Windows 10 dual boot operating systems, so any help from the command line or terminal commands/shell commands would be loads of help if anyone out there could help me out. I'm totally fine with resetting the device completely, not just factory wipe/reset, but the big one that deletes all the partitions and everything if it'll do the trick. I can reflash the firmware at that point from Odin or Heimdall, if I could just get past the reactivation lock.
-Thanks in advance-

Can you get download mode. If so flash first stock rom for your device/carrier... Then turn off in settings.. I've seen issue/mistake like this before ...there's a few guides ...search on Google. For more ....
Just tag me if you need more help.
Don't worry..

I've installed the CWM Recovery using Odin now, several times but it will not stick... every time I restart the device (volume up, home key, and pwr), the stock recovery shows up. No CWM Recovery.
What the heck is going on???
It's been the simplest rooting process I've ever done but I can't get the CWM Recovery to show up. There arent any error messages during the flashing, so I'm not sure what the heck is going on...
I installed the goomanager recovery, then installed cwm. Sticks for me. Try that I guess?

Not sure, but something about the new update stops it, check the end of shabby penguin's oudhs recovery thread. In the mean time, I suggest moving question threads to q&a instead of android development...
edit: they said in the thread to make sure you let go of the buttons immediately upon seeing the tiny blue text in the upper left corner on the first boot after the odin flash while holding the buttons down to access the recovery. if you hold them too long, the phone reboots and rewrites the stock recovery... or at least that's how i interpreted it.
re-edit: can't stress enough to please post in the proper section. this is obviously a question about your phone, and belongs in either the thread about the specific development you have issue with or the q/a section. or both. good luck!!!

Yeah, I've tried both as well.
When you attempt to boot in custom recovery mode, I get an android robot with a red triangle with a message saying 'no command'. I attempted it several times after flashing recovery. No success.
Something's gotta be going on... I'm wondering if Sprint did something in their OTA that's blocking the root/custom recovery option.

Summary: I tried to root my 4.4.2 S4 using an incompatible method by mistake. The phone now has no OS and I am having trouble flashing the stock firmware. When the phone powers on, I see "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again."
The following describes the state the phone was in before the problems occurred...
Model: SGH-I337
Model name: GALAXY S4
Country: USA (AT&T)
Version: Android 4.2.2
Product Code: ATT
PDA: I337UCUAMDL
CSC: I337ATTAMDL
MODEM: I337UCUAMDL
Drivers were properly installed. I had both the Samsung and ADB interface drivers properly installed.
The knitty gritty...
This all started when I attempted to root the phone using djrbliss Saferoot method. Due to there being so many versions of the S4, I misinterpreted the post by djrbliss. Apparently, this method is not compatible with 4.4.2. I attempted to run the .bat file for this method, it hung indefinitely and I killed it. I rebooted the phone and began experiencing issues with my data network. I assumed at this point that the modem had been messed up.
After my failure with Saferoot, I tried to flash back to stock and fix the modem using the files in this thread. I believe some of these files were written successfully, but not all of them because after I booted into Windows, drivers were automatically installed for MSM8960 (snapdragon processor), Samsung Mobile USB CDC Compsite device, Serial gadget driver, Samsung modem.
I tried flashing the I337UCUAMDL firmware but it wouldn't write either.
As a last desperate resort I tried to use Kies to restore the firmware but it wouldn't automatically detect the device so I tried to initiate it manually using the device serial number. The application stopped responding and then the phone had no OS at all.
I am desperately in need of help and will offer a reward (to be sent via paypal) to anyone that can help me.

I traded for it locally so I could care less about the warranty. I think I may have broken the recovery image because I can't get it to boot into recovery, but I can get it to boot into download mode. Is there any other way to clear the cache?

Show us your download mode screen or tell us what you read in upper left corner. Do you see anything like "warranty bit" or "konx" and a hex number like 0x0 or 0x1? If so, you won't be able to flash a 4.2.2 rom neither your factory rom, you should try newest rom.

Can someone link a ROM I can use? At this point I just want the modem working again. :/
This normally happens when the partitions on the embedded multi media card gets corrupted for whatever reason, also known as the emmc.
The phone can be revived by flashing a pit file to repartition the emmc in order so it can be written to.
1. Download this file and you will have a .pit file which you put in the tab marked PIT in Odin -> HERE
2. Next make sure > r partition, f /reset, and auto reboot are ticked in options in Odin.
3. Next put the STOCK ROM in the tab marked PDA/AP, hit start and start the flashing process.
4. When finished the phone should reboot and start up.

So here your problem... Maybe trying to root your device with a wrong file you flashed the new Knox bootloader (any 4.3 or 4.4.2), so your will never be able to flash a 4.2.2 room with old bootloader as you are trying to do. The question is if you flashed 4.3 bootloader or last 4.4.2 bootloader. To be sure try to flash last 4.4.2 rom (if you have 4.4.2 bootloader installed and you try older 4.3 you will also get an error). You can get last 4.4.2 rom for your i337 from www.sammobile.com

It could help if you post the name of the file you wrongly flashed to root. I assume you have att version i337 and not Canadian i337M version (is it right?) , so you will not find a Knox bootloader enabled rom (4.3 or 4.4) in sammobile. But as I see, if you successful flashed a i337M bootloader into your i337, you should be able to repeat it again with a full rom. Maybe you want search in the forum for the i337 and i337M ROM compatibility...
EDIT: Try first the last rom posted by joku1981 in the last post.

I have the US version. I'm not actually with AT&T. I'm with a 3rd party carrier called StraightTalk that simply uses AT&T sim cards and operates on the same network. I have not flashed any Canadian ROMS. The first ROM I tried to flash was a 4.3 ROM. I don't have the file anymore so I don't have the name, but I do know it was 4.3. My thinking at the time was that I didn't need to go all the way back to 4.2 to root the phone, but I obviously made an error in my judgement there. This is the thread I got the root method from that originally screwed up the device (and I'm assuming my APN).
Let me update you guys on the current situation... The phone is now working. Ever since I flashed the teamwin recovery image to the phone I was able to boot into the phone. I'm assuming that at some point I damaged the recovery image and the phone wouldn't boot without it.
I also found that my APN for straighttalk (3rd party carrier) was deleted so I reset that and now I can connect to the data network.
I still want to root the phone if it is possible!
Ty so much :highfive:. Better if u use this method: HERE. Your model is in the list "Tested and worked for". Its very easy process, i think u will have rooted in few minutes. Hi5

So you are now in a 4.2.2 rom with the 4.3 bootloader? Or you have 4.3 or 4.4.2 rom? I only know 2 root methods, phil recovery and cfautoroot (this doesn't change your recovery but just temporally), a bit cleaner, but in your situation i wouldn't like to advice you a root method. If you try one, try it on your own risk...

No, I'm still where I started (4.4.2). Odin was never able to successfully flash a different rom. It failed everytime. This phone is at 4.4.2 from a legit OTA update so I guess I'm stuck here. Now to root it with 4.4.2

If you are in 4.4.2, Saferoot not works.
*EDIT: Your model no is rootable with CF-Auto-Root. How im reading:
SGH-i337 -> AT&T: Bootloader locked, do not use CF-Auto-Root on it :/

Yeah I didn't see that the first time I did it. I'm a bit dyslexic and the first time I read the version number wrong. Are there no root methods available to me at this time?

No is possible root it:
This update contains a new bootloader due to which downgrading to previous stock firmwares WILL NOT BE POSSIBLE.
As of yet, root CAN NOT be retained or acquired on this build (I337UCUFNB1).

Be relaxed and enjoy ur phone completely official. Hi5
hello all,
First of all, sorry about my english, if something isn't clear just tell me.
Device : sm-n900
OS : 4.4.2
For various days I tried to install a custom rom, and when it showed no success I tried anothers.
After that I tried to install the russian Lolipop stock rom(odin) just to try to get some results, but with no success as well.
While trying I didn't manage to install recoveries other than CWM.
All I can "install" are the 4.4.2 stock rom, CWM(and root), restore backup of the 4.4.2.
I assume that there is a connection between the inability to install the other recoveries, Lolipop stock and the custom roms, but I couldn't find it.
This post(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2613169) showed me some possible direction, but still not a full one(philiz doesn't work and cwm does and after other recoveries flashing there is no recovery to go to until I flash CWM again).
Thanks in regard for any help .
What kind of errors are you getting with roms. How do you install the recoverys. Do you flash the correct modem and bootloader?

When trying with CWM there is no errors in the script, after "installing" nothing happen(I should see something called aroma installer if I got it right) and the phone get into boot loop.
For CWM I used Odin(worked)
TWRP(app, odin, by CWM recovery - no success in any method)
Philiz(by CWM - no success)
Basicly, I didn't saw in guides to flash bl and modem seperatly. In some experiments I tried to flash BL(I am pretty sure the correct one - In download mode and in the setting>>about phone, I saw the difference).
OK I use twrp recovery. When selecting the twrp from there home page be sure to select the correct one as they got a few versions and only one of them will work with odin. The bootloader is a must if you want lollipop builds and without that you will end up in bootloops. If you got Cwm then just stick with that.
Try flashing hyperdrive rom and see if it works. Hyperdrive is kitkat. It's a very stable rom and it works perfectly for me.

Is there Hyperdriveis for sm-n900 too?¿ I found this(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2709867) and it's for n900t or for versions of n9005.
And about TWRP, you mean that there is the tar file which I can flash via odin. Does it matter which version, because there was something confusing in the home page("TWRP Install (Requires TWRP 2.8.4 or higher already installed)" - contradiction )
Just flash the latest tar file. No need to have a previous version of twrp on the phone.
Just make sure that the version you flash matches your phone.

I tried again with caution - I saw in some guides to tick off the auto reboot, flash TWRP, pull off the battery, return it, go streight to recovery
but the result is - stuck on boot screen while going to recovery mode
I used odin3 v3.10 and flashed TWRP 2.8.7.0

You said you can flash cwm. Flash cwm through odin. Then find flashable twrp and flash it thru cwm.
Or you can use terminal emulator to flash twrp. You can find the instructions in twrp page as well.

Tried thru CWM but it said installation aborted.
Tried thru adb(in ubuntu) as usual stuck in recovery on the boot image.
In the terminal emulator nothing happen(I assume it is my mistake, because it didn't even gave response to the command)

EDIT : In one of the previous replies I wrote that I thought I changed the bootloader, but I mistaked it with the baseband(only maybe the bootloader too, I pretty sure yes), sorry about this confusion

I still can, but I assume that there is connection between the inability to install the other recoveries and the custom rom, so trying change recovry can make progress too.
The question is what the difference between the CWM to other recoveries, that make it the only one to be able to be installed

Some information would be useful. Is a Custom Recovery installed? TWRP I would prefer. If so, flash this http://download.chainfire.eu/743/SuperSU/BETA-SuperSU-v2.52.zip
Custom recovery is not installed , rooting always fails.
On what stage it fails? Odin flashing or on CF Recovery? What's the error?

i deactived lock and my god i CAN ROOT
thank a lot
So, I upgraded my phone yesterday from the Samsung Core Prime to the Galaxy On5 and the phone was great. I used it through out the day and then proceeded to root the device last night using an app called Root All Devices, which is supposed to detect your phone and tell you what to download and how to root that specific phone. Well, its obvious that it didnt work or else I wouldnt be here. I cannot even get into recovery mode. The phone only allows access to the downloading screen, nothing more. I have searched all night looking for a ROM for SM-G550T1 to use with Odin, but came up with nothing at all. I did try to use the SM-G550FY (Indian version?) but that had the exact same result in Odin. When i tried to root the core prime I had similar problems, but once I located the stock ROM for it it worked perfectly. From past experience with my Core Prime I knew to turn on OEM unlocking (FRP lock is off), allowed unknown sources, turned on USB debugging, and the USB drivers are already installed, so everything is great as far as that goes. My carrier is MetroPCS also. Below is the failed result from Odin:
<OSM> Enter CS for MD5..
<OSM> Binary Check MD5.. Do not unplug the cable..
<OSM> Please wait..
<OSM> Checking MD5 finished Sucessfully..
<OSM> Leave CS..

If someone or anyone would be kind enough to create and upload the stock ROM for the SM-G550T1 (MetroPCS), I would be extremely grateful and I know many others would be as well. Thank you guys. Please help us.
I've been trying to root my on5 sm-g550t with no luck, no methods work. I think this is because this phone is not well known. My carrier is t mobile and can barely find any info on the U.S. device. So I guess try the Indian root on the phone? I have such a hard time and I just want to find a method to root it.

Tried to. Originally I couldn't get into recovery mode bc FRP was blocking me from using the TWRP recovery, but I just got a copy of stock recovery.img and flashed it so I can access recovery mode again finally. But I can't really do anything with it, no /system access, no USB access, so I can't wipe anything or do anything with recovery mode it seems.
