Hi,
I've tried using a USB3.0 cable but my system still says its only running at high speed (usb 2) not super speed (usb3)
same results with mac os and windows 8.1
windows: using usbview on windows as documented here :
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/usbcoreblog...sb-3-0-device-is-operating-at-superspeed.aspx
mac: using system information.
is this a firmware limitation or is it happening with every unit?
There should be a setting in the storage area to enable USB 3.0. By default it will always initially connect at 2.0 unless that toggle is flipped

Itll be on the USB PC connection screen. Plug your S5 into the PC and tap the notification that should say Connected as MTP. Itll bring you to the screen with the selection. Itll have to be enabled each time you connect the cable from what I know

I've never seen that option, if i plug in the usb cable then go to notifications and click "connected as a media device"
when i tap it i get the option to connect as a media device (mtp) or camera (ptp)
and nothing else.
no other option, no menu.
You are using a USB 3.0 cable and port with USB 3.0 drivers installed?
Especially the driver part

ok i have found the reason.
the Australian firmware (straight from samsung, not carrier related) is severely crippled.
it has usb 3 disabled completely.
i flashed the taiwanese firmware on my device and now under windows when i plug it in i get the usb3 option on the phone, when activated it works perfectly. mac osx doesn't work.
i can't believe how crippled the Australian firmware is, no auto rotate in gallery, not able to turn off shutter sound in camera, can't modify the dock. no camera on lock screen, no usb3 support, and probably more...

I'm having problems getting the phone to mount 100% of the time in Mass Storage mode. Occasionally it'll connect, but especially it seems when it's plugged in with the EVO it just won't get a connection. It charges fine, it shows up as a drive, but it doesn't give me access to any files or anything.
I'm using the USB drivers from the Samsung webpage specifically for the Epic 4G.

Try that. For some reason I couldn't mount my phone as a drive until I turned off USB debugging. Settings -> applications -> development (i believe)
I have windows 7 64bit and it works every single time now. I've transferred tons of stuff. I never even formatted my card.
RE
I couldn't get it to connect (driver installed incorrectly etc) when connecting the phone to the front port of my PC, but it worked immediately when I plugged it into the rear of the desktop.

I can contest to this disable usb debugging.
USB debugging has been disabled, used multiple ports, etc. and still having problems. Reinstalled drivers, manually added drivers, nothing is biting. I've also tried disabling driver signing, doing everything I can with that off and still nothing. Windows 7 Ult 64-bit in case you're curious.
Just got my Epic and had the same problem. Oddly enough though it worked with other USB ports on my computer, just not the front/top ports.
I've seen this problem before, I just cant remember where though.
Hmm, i have a Mac and the memory card is not mounting at all. had to take out microSD card and use USB card reader. Had no problems with other HTC Android phones connecting to my Mac (Hero, Evo).
Install USB Driver for the Epic.

Epic USb drivers? I doubt thats needed. Maybe a updated USB driver for your computers USB ports.
Try a different usb cable I had the same issues changed the cable and no more link issues at all.
This is a rather common problem it seems like. I fixed it by using a powered USB hub. Also try using a different port, certain ports seem to not have the power needed even if the phone looks connected.

Hey I have been trying the usb 3.0 on my phone and computer obviously i have usb 3 on my pc and when ever i seem to open the file browser for my note using windows explorer it crashes almost instantly (Windows explorer is not responding) havent tried messing about with any drivers as this shouldnt be the issue, ive tried using different usb ports and enabled the usb 3.0 option on the phone?

So are you using Win 8/7? A recent upgrade to OS? Using Win 8.1? Do you have USB 2.0 ports that have this crashing problem when you try and reproduce the issue or have you only tried the USB 3.0 ports only?

I have same problem. If some one can help me, please help me.
I am using it on win 7, usb 3.0
when i am using note 3 on usb 3.0 with usb 3.0 mode selected at phone end, my pc explorer stops responding to it.
As soon as i switch to usb 2.0 at phone end(MTP Device) it starts working, even if i connect it to usb 3.0 port at PC end and switch it to MTP, it starts working.
any help is appriciated.
it's not as fast as i expected
This happens to me on literally every Android phone on every PC and laptop. XP, 7 Pro, 8 Pro, 8.1, USB2, USB3, makes no difference. It usually takes 12 minutes to load the device, and the second I click anything, it crashes explorer.exe.
It started since they got rid of USB Mass Storage. God I miss that, MTP is sheer rubbish, even iTunes is faster and more stable...
Try to reinstall your usb 3.0 hub drivers.
usb 3.0
Hey there, I have had the same problem. And here is what worked for me and hopefully work for you. In order for the USB 3.0 to work on your note 3, you have to activate developers mode. If already not. Settings-->General-->About device-->And look for "build number" (second last option) tap it seven times, it should give you a message each time you tap that says "you are 4 steps away from becoming a developer" and after you have tapped it 7 times it should say "developer mode enabled" and in about devices you should now have the dev options. Select it and check USB debugging. Un-check it and unplug your USB and re-plug it in to the USB 3.0 port i should connect as a media device.
Has anyone found a solution to this issue? Obviously USB Debugging was not the solution. Is this more of a windows problem, android problem or samsung?

Android.
Specifically, it's the Mass Transfer Protocol.
The device is connected as a Media Device now, meaning it isn't actually a drive. It can only support one action at the same time (So if your virusscanner is set to scan external media, you can forget opening it, as it's 'busy', resulting in a freeze and a crash.), has to work through a thousand little corners just to open, and everything done has to be converted first.
Whomever cooked up that protocol should have his head bashed in for his stupidity.
So...?
Still no solution ?
Personnaly, at least the debug mode trick made the 3rd option appear as I connect the device, but as soon as I try and check it, well an error message comes "impossible to use USB 3.0".
Is there an alternative to this mass storage protocol? is this the real reason why they didn't put usb 3.0 on the note 4? No one can make it work? not even with tweaks, xposed modules, etc?

When you pull down from the top, can you select that area where it says 'connected as installer' ? If so, do it, and it should open a sub-menu where you can select MTP mounting option. It will automatically buffer to it.
By chance, are you rooted with Xposed and X Tether?

Good Morning All,
I had a quick question. When I connect my pixel Xl to my Windows 10 pc I get the drop down android system option to change from USB charging to file transfer.
On my Essential when I connect it makes the noise where windows notices it but on my phone I don't have the option to change from charging to file transfer.
I'm sure it is something I am missing but would appreciate any input. I believe it is a driver issue as my other windows 10 laptop recognizes it and I am able to change to the transfer files option.
I checked device manager and it is not showing up under portable devices.
Thanks
On my HTC 10, you can make the change manually by going to Settings>>More(last option under Wireless and networks)>>USB connection

Thanks I have the option to change it to MTP via developer options and it works fine where I get the notification on my other PC. I'm thinking somehow my one laptops driver may be bad as it recognizes my Pixel but not the essential.

Yeah, I was thinking there was a way in developer options as well, but I don't have my cable with me so it wasn't showing up.
I have an older laptop that makes the "recognition noise/ring" when I plug in my phone, but it takes like 2-3 minutes before the screen pops up asking what I want to do with it. Don't know if that could be your issue, but you may try just letting it sit for a few before unplugging it and see if that changes anything.
Or, it could be just like you say, bad driver.

It is usbc and only have one.
I plug my pixel in on the same port and it shows up in portable devices. With the essential plugged in my computer makes the noise that it is connected but it does not show up any where in device manager.
I uninstalled the driver with my pixel plugged in and re plugged in the essential still no go. I plugged in the essential and the driver was installed. It is strange as it shows up under my other windows 10 pc just fine.
I had the same problem and I eventually got it to work by using a USB A to C cord, not my usbc port on my laptop.
Had the same issue last night, turns out for me my computer recognized the phone and used the adb interface driver, had to go into device manager, Uninstall the driver associated with my essential phone, and then replug the phone in for it to be accessible via mtp

I also noticed that it didn't work in a USB 2.0 port for me, only in a 3.0 port. And my front facing 3.0 port on my desktop that I use for flash drives didn't work either, so not sure if there is some long cable signal integrity issue there, but USB 3.0 port was the only way I got it recognized via my computer
I did use this USB Device Viewer from Microsoft and found that it is showing up with this error.
Though not sure how I'm supposed to resolve it. https://imgur.com/w1tz12s
It is at least showing that it is connected.
Maybe I'm not understanding but on mine when I plug into PC the pull down menu shows charging and then I tap on that and get a menu that has file transfer and 3 others and I select file transfer. Have you tried that?
I'm at a complete loss here guys, hate to even ask this. So I tried to connect my 6t to my Windows 10 PC and the PC won't even RECOGNIZE that anything was plugged in! No sound and not even an entry in device manager. I even went as far as to reinstall Windows 10 and no dice. I installed the One plus driver from here on XDA and they are unsigned drivers, so I disabled driver signature enforcement and the drivers are now on my PC, but with the PC not even noticing something was plugged in it's no use.
Some info.
Using the red USB C cable that came with the device.
Plugging it into a USB 3.0 port on my PC.
Installed the OnePlus driver with enforcement disabled.
More info? Let me know! I'm lost here.

Just ruling out all possibilities (have run into this myself on other phones) :
Have you tried another port on you PC?
FWIW,I'm using a cable from either an LG or Samsung & that's working for me.
The device is seen & I got the pop-up on the phone after toggling the associated USB options in Dev Options on the phone.
Was able to execute ADB commands for an Immersive Mode app & to use the no-root ADB Uninstall commands.
I just used my og pixel xl type c cable and it instantly installed the drivers and recognized the phone
Front ports of PC chassis sometimes give too little power so try an usb port on back. try with other pc as it might be problem with your pc

Alright, so I tried different ports on my PC both front and back, no usb input sound or anything. I'm wondering if the USB C cable that comes in the box of the 6t just isn't a data cable? I have developer options enabled, adb debugging, and have the default USB mode set to MTP. Nothing still. I wonder why. Have you tried connecting your 6t with the included cable? Just to rule out if it IS a data cable or not. Thanks!

I've just factory reset my 6T and plugged it into a USB 2 port on the front of my PC, using the red cable that came with the phone, and it immediately recognised it. You clearly have an issue but we can rule out it being a general issue.
just checking. you say it charges, that was the default setting on mine after i enabled usb debugging. i opened notifications on my phone and the was a small one saying phone charging, when i clicked on it i got an options page for usb preferences and then switched to file transfer. works fine now.

are you in fastboot mode on the phone? are you just running the phone within osygenOS?
I'm going to say damaged cable.
Try any other device that you can plug it into. If it still doesn't work it's the cable. If you change cable and still a problem I'd RMA the device maybe faulty port on phone. Device is too new to be playing games like this. Get a new one.
I just connected my, to windows 10 laptop after seeing this post. No driver installed, red cable that came with phone, USB 3 Port in the laptop. Nothing was needed to do for it to be recognized. Worked just like that.
Albeit I enabled USB debugging in developer option beforehand and changed the option to file transfer.
Just wanted to show the settings
