So I finally made a decision on which tablet that I want but when I called BestBuy to see if they have any in stock I was told that they do have some but it was a limited stock......and.... that they are being discontinued so they will not be getting any more in...
This sucks.... Now I am back on the hunt of which tablet to get.

Good question...
I found it on sale for $229.99 and BestBuy will match it.... I've just been a little skeptical about getting a product that is at its EOL.

4.4.2 is available for it and that is probably as far as most 2013 tablets will get. If your really worried about out dated, buy a nexus.

Maybe I'm just jumping to conclusions and should just try the G Pad.

The sd card is useless in kit Kat ..you are not allowed to write to external storage such as sd cards in kit Kat 4.4.2 So you should buy a tablet with 32gb or 64gb of internal storage without option for external storage. But LG G Pad 8.3 is also good tablet.

Sorry, but I mean without root, you can't write to external storage card in kit Kat. And I am not looking to root my G Pad, because many people are reporting issues after their G Pads are rooted.

G Pad may not accepts future firmware updates from LG if you have currently root on your G Pad. That's why I am afraid to root my device.

You do realize that there has only been one firmware update in its history? Furthermore, even if there is one, you can be certain a version with root and recovery will appear here in 24 hours that can be flashed. I am running stock and use a flashable version.
I received the kitkat update yesterday. After reading about the sd card issue, I tried saving a pic to my 64g sd card and had no problems. I even deleted a pic from the card. This is a nice tablet snd I hsve had several android tablets. Go buy and enjoy. ?

I did it!!
Okay well I went ahead and pulled the trigger!!!!
For the price I could not find a better tablet!!
I ended up getting it for $229.99 at BestBuy (They priced matched NewEggs sale)
That being said, I am really impressed with everything.... the screen is great (yes I did look at the Galaxy 8.4 Pro but dam the price) and it is really smooth!!!!
BTW..... I was going with the White but changed my mind and got the Black and love the color

So, to summarize responses to your posts:
1. SD Cards on Kitkat will work with a simple fix.
2. Rooting does not "break things". It's really kind of the normal way to use an Android device.
3. As far as not being able to get OTA updates after rooting, that's somewhat correct, but the better way to update is not with OTA but with a prepared flashible file that comes with root.
4. Rooting is as easy as it can be. Very simple and more or less idiot-proof.

That is an accurate summary. I'll just add that for root+recovery the method that gave me no headaches was:
JB (4.2.2) - Dalingrin and then TWRP 2.6.3.2 (if you have JB, I strongly recommend doing this before going to KK, even if you plan to use stock)
KitKat (4.4.2) - IOroot 2.5 then TWRP 2.7 (a special build for KK)

Hi guys,
I'm giving my daughter my iPad Gen.1 and grabbing a Nexus 7 but just saw a report at Anandtech showing the nexus 16 considerably date then the 8gb version...
Kind of puzzled why this would be, can anyone shine a little light on why this is?
Sent from my GSII w/ICS SHOstock2
It's mentioned right in the article. The 16gb uses a faster eMMC controller. Also, this specifically affects read/write performance, not other types of performance.

Thanks for the reply AZim,
so overall we wouldn't see or feel the difference between the two? I do understand it was mentioned in the article but I'd rather hear it from you the everyday users, especially if you had the opportunity to compare then side by side... Financially I'd rather go for the 8gb version but if there is a big advantage going for the 16 other then memory space then I'd hold off until I could swing it..
Sent from my GSII w/ICS SHOstock2
I only have the 16gb, so I can't really compare them side by side, but even though I said that it only affects read/write performance, it could in theory have a cascading effect in slowing things down. For example, if you're playing an intensive game, it could take longer to load things like textures, which might require the game to slow everything else down while texture loading catches up. In practice though, it seems unlikely that you'd really notice since it even mentions in the article that the 8gb's performance is still very good, just not as good as the 16gb.
I totally agree but sering how high ranked (#1) the 16gb is listed and if the 8gb was ranked #2 I wouldn't have asked but it drops 4-5 spots which made me wonder...

Its basically a ssd in your tablet/phone anyways, so i assume same rule applies.
Well bids started rolling in so off to Staples I went and all Nexus 7s were sold out and they had no idea when more will be arriving. They wanted me to pre order but with Sam's next door I figured it was worth a shot and they delivered, got me a new nexus 7 16gb and having some fun, Swype was my first install lol... funny this feels like a really big Galaxy S2
Now the big question: TO ROOT OR NOT TO ROOT
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Whether or not you decide to root, definitely unlock the bootloader first because if you unlock it, you'll have to wipe the device.

agreed, and the only reason you would ever have to lock it again would be to either give it away locked or to return it to google so you'd never have to wipe it

I am going to probably buy one today so I am not all caught up on everything nexus7 related yet, but the 32gb will be faster. There is an article on the speed difference. The specs for all are the same, but with each step up in storage the boot up time for the tablet as well as entering apps will be quicker. If I remember right it was about a 8-10 second difference in boot up between the 8 and 32gb. You will have to check this, but the 32 comes with 4.2 out of the box and thus a different (updated) su file will probably be required.
As for price, do not pay $199 for an 8gb. The price was recently lowered with the release of the 32gb. Its $199 for a new 16gb.

Rooting is effortless. Unlock the boot loader, flash a custom recovery, then flash the root package. Plenty of guides about, can't be bothered googling it for you.
Codename for the device is "grouper" by the way.

Best buy was a lot more helpful than Asus... they let me exchange it 3 times without losing or using my replacement plan.
Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk 2
I'm on my third tablet. My first had a dead pixel but was otherwise perfect. Walmart exchanged it with no hassles. The second started out perfect, but within a couple weeks, the touch input gave out. I would get ghost presses by lightly squeezing the left edge of the tablet (no more force than was required to hold the tablet with one hand; that was how I first noticed the ghost touches), then I would get random ghost touches regardless, and within a couple days, it didn't respond to touch input at all. That one also got returned without hassles.
This third tablet has been great minus the I/O issues. If the I/O could be fixed, my tablet would be perfect.
My first TF300 hand issues with the touch screen and went back to best buy for an exchange. Before that I had an TF101 whet through had to exchange my first two TF101 and the third one screen went out after about a year, so I upgraded to the TF300.
I I/O issues with just about all Asus tablets and the fact that I'vd had to exchange every Asus tablet at lest one leads me to think this will be my last Asus tablet. Even though I love Asus tablet and dock combo but, I'll probably be going with a Samsung next time.

Not directed at me but if I chose moto i'll only be on it until my contract is up in June. I have good Sprint service but I want to go to a GSM carrier and buy unlocked since i'm done with contracts. The intriguing part about Nexus 5 is i could use it on Sprint and then take it elsewhere when my contract is up. Moto X brings innovation though. The X2 would definitely be my next phone.

Is it? I asked the sales rep about that and they said an update would be released when SPARK went live in the area. If that's incorrect, then I suppose the N5 might be a better bet if you're looking to acquire SPARK functionality sooner.

I will defer to those with more insider information than I. I've found the Moto X to be speedier than my GS3 in the Houston area, so while SPARK would be nice, I can't say it makes me regret purchasing this phone if it will not be compatible. So far I've been very pleasantly surprised at how much I'm liking it.

The nexus 5 looked great, but I am not one to do any or much flashing or tinkering with phones. I wanted a phone that worked, and the MotoX fits that bill the best IMO. I also got it for 1 cent on Amazon for upgrade, so that was awesome.
Apparently there's a flashable update zip here. If anyone is rooted with stock recovery can you try it and let us know?

I just tried to flash that but it said an error about it was meant for ghost devices.
How is everyone liking the screen size with the soft keys? I was messing around with a co-workers and I didn't love the screen size. I have a N5 and was thinking about getting my wife the Moto X, she currently has the Sprint SII and I don't want to downgrade her screen size. I know I am used to the N5 screen so maybe her going from SII to Moto X won't be so bad.
I'm in Kansas and still haven't got the update notification any way to force it. Pure bone stock Rom and stock recovery

I got it by placing the flashable zip posted here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2452246 into my sd card, tried to flash it via stock recovery, getting an error message, and finally rebooting my phone and hitting the system update button and finally getting it.
The speed is amazing. No stutters or hiccups when running on ART instead of dalvik. I'm so happy right now .
