[Q] Nexus 7 Screen Not Displaying Anything - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've looked around the forums and everywhere online but no one seems to have a solution to my problem. A few days ago i was using my Nexus 7 and i placed it down normally and shut the screen off. I came back to use it a few minutes later and the screen didn't turn on though the device itself was still on. I thought maybe it was just some lag which happens occasionally after i press the power button. I tried restarting it but the screen just stayed black. I think it is still charging because the led notification light still lights up every few seconds as usual and it still seems to be powered on. Is there a possible solution to fix this quickly or would i have to send it back to ASUS since it has been about 6 months since i purchased it?

There is no led on the 2012 version if you have the 2013 version try the nexus 7 2013 forum they may be able to help you

Screen keeps turning on and off by itself

Hi guys,
I've been using my Optimus 7 for barely a week now and I ran into this very annoying issue I've just discovered yesterday.
Every time i turn off the screen, it would turn itself back on(showing the lock screen), few seconds later the screen goes off, and then on again. It doesn't happen to me when I am using the phone, so it can't be the power button's fault. Restarting the phone does not help either.
My phone is unlocked with Chevron 7.
Anyone have any solutions?
Thanks in advance.
Having the same problem after 3 years of none. I have not downloaded anything in that 3 years as well as this is just used as a phone ( data is too expensive in rural Canada ). This only happens when the phone is not being used, when charging no problems, only when on battery does it do this, I guess no answer is coming if the original author had no answers for opver 4 years but any suggestions would be great.
Thanks all.

[Q] Weird screen defect - Screen blank after boot

Hi all,
I got my Nexus 7 from the Play Store a couple of months ago (one of the pre-orderers). The first time I turned it on, I noticed the screen slowly dimming and turning off during the boot animation. I would see the 'X' but it would slowly fade out, disappear totally and then reappear on full brightness. The screen then totally turned off after completing booting and I couldn't see anything. A couple of reboots later and the screen finally turned on which was great. The tablet would run anything perfectly after that except if I turned the brightness to the lowest setting which would cause the screen to turn off. This didn't bother me either since I always use it on full brightness anyway.
However, over the last couple of weeks I noticed the touchscreen becomes unresponsive after prolonged use. This made me decide to get it replaced. I called Google who said they would send me a replacement :victory:.
Here's the problem...Since I was rooted and running CWM recovery I decided to revert to the factory image for warranty purposes. So I reverted to stock and rebooted but I now have the same problem I had at the first boot. My screen won't turn on! I tried rebooting a couple of times to see if that would do it but it just happens everytime. The bootanimation completes and the screen just turns off. The problem is I can't relock my bootloader which is going to jeopardise my warranty IMO since my tablet is scheduled for return on the 12th of this month (10/12/2012).
Well finally could anyone please help? Has anyone had the same issue? What steps did you take?
Sorry for the long post. I'm just worried that I'm going to be stuck with the defective tablet which I worked hard to save the money for in the first place
BUMP. I really need any help I can get since i've got less than 48 hours to get it fully stock before the courier comes to pick it up for RMA.
Did you follow this guide to return to stock/relock the bootloader? I had this exact same problem and your best bet would be to get an RMA.
Actually I did perform all those steps but I just can't seem to enter the stock recovery. I just keep getting the Android with the red triangle. Thanks for the suggestion anyways. I'll give you a thanks just for that

Sounds to me as if your auto brightness is stuck....wake it up and shine a flashlight or something on the screen. If you can see your screen, go into settings and turn off your auto brightness.
Well I did what you said and guess what IT WORKED! Thanks a million. I'm really dumb for not having thought of that..

[q] urgent! Nexus 4 won't turn on!

I have had a nexus 4 for a while, and I rooted it about 2-3 months ago, but today for absolutely no reason, it won't turn on (please note it was fully charged when I left it). I have tried to leave it plugged in for a while, and after I tried turning it on nothing happened. When I connected it to my computer it showed up as QHSUB_DLOAD. I don't have any custom rom or kernel, all I have is an unlocked bootloade on my rooted nexus 4. I tried holding the power button for over 30 seconds (it was suggested on another post here at XDA) and it still wouldn't do anything. Please help me, I have no idea what happened or how to fix this.
PROBLEM FIXED!
jonapunk sent me a message with a simple procedure to solve this:
"Try volume up and power for 20 sec. Then press power button one more time"
I have put his message up for everyone to see in case they encounter the same issue.

AT&T: Hardware Failing?

Hey guys,
So I was on PowerUser 2.0. For months I was fine but it started going nuts yesterday when I woke up. I somehow managed to get it back to stock JellyBean but there are still the same issues.
What is happening:
I can get the phone to start. Sometimes it goes through the LG screen multiple times, though. It usually freezes up 2-5 minutes after startup and just restarts. If the screen turns off it's even more likely to be frozen. This is more like the black screen of death -- can't get it to turn back on but the phone is still "on."
Then I have to hard reset it and go from there and rinse repeat.
Is this the hardware failing? Any ideas for what to do?
Adding on to this. The led is blinking in a weird pattern when the screen is off(not when it fails to wake up but just in general). I'm able to use it for hours at a time now but I think it may have something to do with heavy use or it heating up. Just seems weird that it is still functional and everything seems fine it just seems like I can't get the display to come back on. I'm relatively sure the phone is fine behind scenes but then again a lot of the freeze ups come with the phone on and the whole screen just won't react then it restarts on its own

No ideas?
So I can get it to work generally if I just keep using it. If it heats up it seems to restart a lot. If it does start restarting I generally have to hold the power until it is fully off to restart it or it just loops the LG logo.
There's times when it goes hours between restarts, and then times it does it every ten minutes. I really think over heating has something to do with it, but I have no idea for sure.
I can't seem to find anything like it online
So I'm using a loaner phone and am letting the battery run out on the g2. It hasn't shut down once when I'm not using it. So like 3 days of uptime.
Does that help anyone with maybe pining down what's up?

Nexus 4 can't sleep!

I am facing a serious issue right now. My nexus 4 can't sleep!
In the morning I got a call and after I hung up, my phone switched itself off (since the battery was at 1% for more than 25 mins). And then when I plugged it into charging and switched it on I noticed that the phone wasn't able to sleep! Pressing the power button did nothing (although long pressing it did bring up the power off and airplane mode pop up, so I know its working fine) I set the sleep duration to 15 secs after the phone hasn't been used but that didn't help.I switched off the phone and turned it back on but the problem still remains! Looks like some bug. Help me! Has anyone faced this problem? Oh and BTW I am running 4.4.4 stock ROM with root , TWRP recovery and installed gltools XDA developer edition 2 days before but I don't think its causing the problem since I uninstalled it and checked.

OK so I installed a widget for turning off screen and locking it. When I clicked on the widget , the screen just locked itself but didn't turn off. Someone help!
