[Q] From TWRP 2.7 to philz recovery ? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Sorry for this question if already answered but I am new on this. I want to install a custom rom using philz recovery. After reading some threads, situation is not clear.
I have a D802 with stock rom (KK), rooted, and with TWRP 2.7 installed using AutoRec. So far, so good...
What is the next step ?
1) Just install last philz version using TWRP 2.7 ?
2) Install 6.19.3 philz version then install last version ?
3) Something more complicated ?
Thank you

When I switch to Philz recovery, I just flash the zip file using TWRP and it flashes just like any other flashable zip files. I would do a full nandroid back up of your rom with twrp first though, just in case. Also, Philz Recovery can recover using TWRP nandroid backup, which I think is a pretty neat feature.

[Q] Custom rom needs cwm recovery?

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1769847 this rom says that i need cwm recovery, but can i not just use my teamwin recovery project?
I'd be very surprised if a ROM needed a specific recovery program installed. If you have TWRP and have taken a backup of your current ROM, then install the new one.

twrp is better anyways, you can use it. its not only for cwm recovery.

Quick CWM question

I used the lokified tool to root my phone and did the CWM recovery not TWRP. After getting everything up and running with a rom I downloaded rom manager from the play store and flashed the update, is everything good with my phone or do I now have to reflash the original cwm from the tool. Thanks for any help.

How to Flash CMW on TWRP?

Guys I am using stock rooted android 4.3 ROM with TWRP recovery (Probably 2.6.0.0). Now I want to upgrade it to Kitkat but I read you can't do it using TWRP recovery. Kindly guide me how can I switch it to CMW one? Thanks in Advance!

you can use twrp, just update to the newest version of twrp. you can flash recoveries via fastboot or an app called flashify.

Question - how did you get your first recovery on your phone. Its no different for the second one... You just have more choices on how to do it now thats all
its possible to flash within TWRP itself, but i chose to do it with fastbot command line and the recovery img. it just overwrites TWRP and you get CWM then

Can you send the twrp link u just used? Thanks.
I flashed TWRP first, then from within there flashed Philz, and it works perfectly. Now I can store my backups using USB-OTG. Perfect!

I used option 1. Easier is not always better. Option 1 is the safest way.

I first downloaded and installed "Recovery Tools", from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2334554
I then downloaded TWRP for my phone from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2501444. I only used this link to find TWRP
for my phone (Canadian D803). I didn't actually follow the directions on this page.
Once I had the TWRP .img file, I used Recovery Tools to flash TWRP.
I then downloaded PhilZ Touch Recovery from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2554053
I booted into TWRP Recovery and from there, flashed PhilZ Recovery. From that point on, when I boot into recovery, I get into PhilZ instead of TWRP.
I still haven't figured out how to boot into recovery using the power/volume buttons. I've tried a few times and I can't get it to work. However, Recovery Tools has a reboot option, and that works great for now. Of course, if I get into trouble and can't access this app, that option is gone
*Edit* I finally learned how to boot into recovery using the power/volume buttons! :victory: I followed the instructions given by bodom_hc here:

How in TWRP did you flash the PhilZ Recovery. I have used the "Flash Zip" file option and when when I boot back into recovery I still get TWRP?

I did the same thing. I chose "Install" in TWRP and selected PhilZ recovery. After reboot, PhilZ just came up by default. I didn't do anything else myself - I'm pretty new to this. Did I just get lucky?

Help change stock recovery / revert to stock recovery (CWM based recovery) [SOLVED]

Hello friends,
I have rooted Galaxy i9505 international. Installed CWM based recovery 6.0.3.2(0611), and flashed last stable CM (cm-10.2.1-jfltexx).
Boot time have become longer (way longer) since installing CWM based recovery.
Couldn't find a decent post about how to:
1) Revert back to stock recovery.
or
2) Change the CWM based recovery to official CWM.
Anyone know how to do either?
Or maybe had the same problem with CWM based recovery?

Did you consider trying a different recovery (PhilZ) or a different ROM?
Look for a recovery you want to try if its a zip file flash it with CWM and if its odin file flash it with odin.

The latest CM snapshot booted a bit faster.
Actually after all those attempts I can't really remember how long did it take to boot before installing CWM..
But it does seems slower.

I prefer to flash the original CWM.
How can I flash it on top of the CWM based recovery?
Files there are img files.
Look in xda development section you will find it zip format or i think you can download a zip file of another recovery and the replace the recovery within the zip file with the one you want to flash.
If you want to flash it in .img format you can do that with heimdall but you will need the pit file of 19505 too.

Could not find any ZIP of the official Clockworkmod Recovery.
Is there any other way to install it?
Or better yet, a way to revert to stock recovery (from there I can install as in the beginning)?
Btw, is it ok to just replace recovery? Or should I "uninstall" my old recovery before installing the new one?
