Hey guys, sorry if this question has been addressed a thousand times previously, but I searched and couldn't find anything. I know there is a way to fully convert the HTC One (M7) to a GPE so that it will recieve OTA updates from Google. So this is different than just flashing a Stock Rom, because once s-off was achieved we could actually change the CID, basically fully converting it to a GPE phone. Is there a way to do this on the GS4? If so, could someone provide a link? Also is it dependent upon what version of Android it is running? For example if its been updated to the latest version of the OS from the carrier, is it still possible? I just bought a minty 32gb GS4 that should arrive today or tomorrow, and the first thing I would like to do is convert it. I read that with certain updates it can't be loki'd... And really not into rooting just to flash Roms, I would want to convert and be done...

I know, but then everytime a new update comes out I have to flash another ROM... I'd rather convert and be done, that way I can still OTA updates

No two ways about it. Either buy a google play edition or do it like everyone else does, flash roms.

so the answer to my question is "no"... you can't fully convert a gs4 to a gpe like you can with the m7

I guess it's something related to modem , bootloader or kernel.
Devs have to make changes to make it installable on our 9505 , and by doing so , it breaks OTA ...

Hi guys. I've been looking for an untouched version of 4.3 Google Edition to use on my i9505, but all ROMs available on Android Development have some sort of modification to it. Some are deodexed, others have 3-way reboot, others remove google and samsung stuff. I really wanted a version completely stock, no root, no deodex, nothing...... just pure.
I have no idea how to make my own flashable zip though. If I did I would have done it for myself.
If you guys can teach me or (even better) make one for me, I would be very much appreciated. :fingers-crossed:
I'm sure other people want this too.

Hi,
Since both phones are identical in hardware. Is it possible to convert the international 9505 to be a 100% gpe with ota working? I don't mean by flashing one of those custom roms floating around.
I tried several custom roms like janjans and jamals, but both drain battery twice as fast as the stock Samsung rom (18h vs. 32h).There is no wakelock issue. The roms simply drain the battery faster for no reason.
My hope is to have a clean gpe that's provided and updated by Google.

That won't happen. Samsung *may* provide something..
These problems aside.. as far as I can see, what we need it a full Odin package that can be flashed onto a i9505 or a i9505G (since they share the same hardware). As far as I can find.. so far, no such package exists.
I don't have a i9505G, but I wonder.. does it come with a Samsung Kies package? What is the procedure to flash it back to factory settings? I can't recall the last Samsung device where system images were not available.. these are usually pulled directly from the Kies/Samsung update server.
Anyway.. I'm here waiting like many of you are as well.

I can't find an ODIN package either, and no--the GPe GS4 does not come with a Kies package. I wish it did. I want one now.
Yes, a full Odin package would be the best, but as you found there seems to be none. Even sammobile does not provide any rom for the gpe. It's like the phone doesn't exist in the Samsung world oO.
On the other hand side the has to be an Odin package (which might not be available to the public) because the i9505g is out in stores and it had to be flashed at least once.
And honestly I don't think that Samsung flashes the gpe in a different way as the i9505. Since this would require new tools that cost money.
So, there has to be an Odin package we just don't know about it by now *hoping*

I only really envy the fastboot ability of the I9505G SBL. Anyone with JTAG tried flashing I9505G SBL to I9505?

I Just got galaxy s 4 for wifey, and i am really upset that i9505 cannot be converted like my HTC One on which I got 4.3 OTA, I wonder why no one thought about it here. may be people are happy with custom rom, but me, I would like OTA as its served, not custom ones.
I'm with you guys... I know that it will be a reason why we can't "convert" our I9505 in to I9505G just like that, with a simple Rom flash, but:
I found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=44425206#post44425206 [ODIN][TAR] 4.3 I9505GUEUBMH1 Full Rooted Restore , an ODIN file to restore I9505G.... the warning text says: NOT FOR I9505-I9500 (in red!), but why? is not the same hardware?
Maybe is the ray of light we are waiting for? :fingers-crossed:
If someone try to flash it, let us know if its works.

The boot partition is locked so you can't but you can root get custom recovery and flash a Google play edition ROM from the I9505 android development section.

But didn't a poster above imply these ROM's are not stock and don't perform as well? I'm thinking about trying to do this too, but this thread implies it is impossible to make a regular 9505 into a 9505G?

It is impossible to do a full transfer but the Google play edition Roms run very smooth I'm running one now from my sprint version which is the smoothest ROM I've used. You can change the build prop to say GT-I9505G

Changing the build prop does not a ROM make. I guess I should do proper research on some of these ROMs. I was psyched to get wireless charging back, that was my fave thing about my Pre. For the record, every day I spend here trying to decide what's next, I keep looking at my i9100 and say; why do I need to?
Sprint: Nilay Patel was right...poor poor americans, but more importantly they, your carriers, poison the whole world as well.
Is it possible to get the extra 1700MHz bands by doing a full flash?
Can someone upload the sbl from a i9505g rom?

I flashed the GE 4.3 for i9505, which is the following ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2348272
Today I've received an 16MB OTA that told me the feature I can find contacts directly when dialing. (p.s. I'm using the zh-CN language.)
Obviously, it cannot be updated cause the model is mismatch though I made it a try somehow.
My TWRP returned "status 7" err.
I googled it and found a version JWR66V.S015 (my current is S014).
Does anyone got this update?
Is there anyway to flash in or just waiting for new ROM?
p.s. I'm a newbie here and I don't have the permission to reply in the DEV forums
jarmal's new ROM comes out! QUEST CLEAR. Lock plz.

I would be perfect if only I9505 can be transformed into I9505G.
GE rom is faster and more stable than any other TW/AOKP/CM10.2 roms at present.

Almost right. Better to say once if you have a third-party recovery, you cannot install OTA with right pattern.
Greeting guys,
I'm running a google edition untouched 4.3 rom. Recently I received a notification for 4.4 update but I can't install it.
Is there a way to install it and enjoy the experience of 4.4 as if my phone was a google edition phone?
thanks

I just want it to try the stock rom so badly
The guys are hard at work on it in the development section, don't worry!
The ge rom is lovely and I think the wait is well worth it. If it's like the untouched 4.3 ge rom I've been using it will be better than the stock one! Patience is not a virtue of mine to be honest but in this case, on xda, it's a pleasure to wait for such talented and oft under appreciated devs.

1) Is there a list of available Roms for this tablet?
2) If there isn't a list of roms, perhaps people could post the ones they have and I can make a new post containing links to roms that I will maintain as long as people let me know when/if links die.
*Old roms are just fine, just as long as they are unique.
3) Are there any amazon stock roms available I can flash with TWRP?
*I didn't know if you can somehow flash an amazon stock rom with it and then just customize it, pre root it? then make an image of it myself with TWRP.
Wishful thinking, is it that simple?
Also if there are any knowlageble people on any of this subject we should make an IRC channel on libera.chat.. I can start if if there is interest.
Thanks,

Thanks, yeah... I was looking more for a method to flash via twrp and not use anything stock other than the OS image. There were a couple releases of two different roms that were pre rooted stock. I didn't know how popular those were.
I'm just running into weird issues. I have an app I'm writing in processing.org for andriod and the frame rates I'm getting varies so much on different roms. The rom i'm using is one of these
lineage-12.1-20200505-UNOFFICIAL-suez
lineage-14.1-20190926-UNOFFICIAL-suez
Super old, but honestly if that's what I get, that's what I get.
I tried this too
5620_Fire_HD_10_pre_rooted_optimized_stock_rom-signed
Based on how all this stuff works, I didn't know if I had the ability to download the latest amazon image and make my own flashable rom to "try out" vs be in a situation where I would update it all and then not able to go back. I'd rather not.
Thanks for the response.
