Hi,
Since both phones are identical in hardware. Is it possible to convert the international 9505 to be a 100% gpe with ota working? I don't mean by flashing one of those custom roms floating around.
I tried several custom roms like janjans and jamals, but both drain battery twice as fast as the stock Samsung rom (18h vs. 32h).There is no wakelock issue. The roms simply drain the battery faster for no reason.
My hope is to have a clean gpe that's provided and updated by Google.

That won't happen. Samsung *may* provide something..
These problems aside.. as far as I can see, what we need it a full Odin package that can be flashed onto a i9505 or a i9505G (since they share the same hardware). As far as I can find.. so far, no such package exists.
I don't have a i9505G, but I wonder.. does it come with a Samsung Kies package? What is the procedure to flash it back to factory settings? I can't recall the last Samsung device where system images were not available.. these are usually pulled directly from the Kies/Samsung update server.
Anyway.. I'm here waiting like many of you are as well.

I can't find an ODIN package either, and no--the GPe GS4 does not come with a Kies package. I wish it did. I want one now.
Yes, a full Odin package would be the best, but as you found there seems to be none. Even sammobile does not provide any rom for the gpe. It's like the phone doesn't exist in the Samsung world oO.
On the other hand side the has to be an Odin package (which might not be available to the public) because the i9505g is out in stores and it had to be flashed at least once.
And honestly I don't think that Samsung flashes the gpe in a different way as the i9505. Since this would require new tools that cost money.
So, there has to be an Odin package we just don't know about it by now *hoping*

I Just got galaxy s 4 for wifey, and i am really upset that i9505 cannot be converted like my HTC One on which I got 4.3 OTA, I wonder why no one thought about it here. may be people are happy with custom rom, but me, I would like OTA as its served, not custom ones.
I'm with you guys... I know that it will be a reason why we can't "convert" our I9505 in to I9505G just like that, with a simple Rom flash, but:
I found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=44425206#post44425206 [ODIN][TAR] 4.3 I9505GUEUBMH1 Full Rooted Restore , an ODIN file to restore I9505G.... the warning text says: NOT FOR I9505-I9500 (in red!), but why? is not the same hardware?
Maybe is the ray of light we are waiting for? :fingers-crossed:
If someone try to flash it, let us know if its works.

The boot partition is locked so you can't but you can root get custom recovery and flash a Google play edition ROM from the I9505 android development section.

But didn't a poster above imply these ROM's are not stock and don't perform as well? I'm thinking about trying to do this too, but this thread implies it is impossible to make a regular 9505 into a 9505G?

Changing the build prop does not a ROM make. I guess I should do proper research on some of these ROMs. I was psyched to get wireless charging back, that was my fave thing about my Pre. For the record, every day I spend here trying to decide what's next, I keep looking at my i9100 and say; why do I need to?
Sprint: Nilay Patel was right...poor poor americans, but more importantly they, your carriers, poison the whole world as well.
Is it possible to get the extra 1700MHz bands by doing a full flash?
Can someone upload the sbl from a i9505g rom?

Hi,
I want to flash the I9500XXUAMDE_I9500OJKAMD9_ILO.zip Stock ROM (Full hebrew , designed for GT-i9500) on a factory unlocked AT&T SGH-i337 using ICS 4.2.2.
I tried flashing it using both Odin and TWRD recovery with no avail.
IMHO the problem is with the CSC , I cannot change my CSC to ILO.
I hope there is a walkthrough for this.
In the worst case I need ANY FULL HEBREW (with RTL menus) Stock ROM (with no AT&T apps) for SGH-i337. :fingers-crossed:
THNX ALOT
That would be very, very unwise.
I9500 has the exynos octacore system while the i337 (and i337M and i9505) have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 silicon.
If you manage to flash that i9500 rom into an i337, you would be pretty much guaranteed to hard-brick the phone.
There are very good reasons why the variants of these phones have their own sections of forums
NO!!! Dont do it! You'll hard brick your phone
yes its possible. but it will hard brick it for sure.
THnX AlOt GuyZZZ :good:
It seems I inadvertently bought the better phone it has the same specs as the GT-i9505 which leads me to the question will the SGH-i337 support GT-i9505 ROM ? :fingers-crossed:
BTW "Brick" status (unsuited firmware flashed on hardware) is unrecoverable (physically damages the hardware) ?
I won't be able to boot into recovery/DL mode and flash a working ROM ?
Had a friend flash a i9500 rom as soon as the att g4 was released. He visited the jtag box. HARD BRICK. No you can not run those roms. Besides, for every i9500 rom released they do a i9505 rom also..or very soon after. In my guide is the list of i9505 roms that will work for you.

yes they are; root, install recovery (one click three way is easiest, and who DOESNT like a good three way?), and make sure its an auto-loki ROM. There are touchwiz (keep samsung features) and AOSP (no samsung features; closer to stock android), and Cyanogen nightlies that have several issues.
I am running Goldeneye 1.3, Ktoonsez kernel, Xposed framework with multiwindow hack, etc. 100% stable, 100% smooth; all Samsung features work fine. Based on an international ROM, and screen smear is fixed, camera is quicker too.

Hi Axman,
In this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2295557 is there a ROM with Full RTL Hebrew menus ? that's is the prime attribute I'm looking in a ROM right now.
Let's be more specific unlike what you've said currently there is no "Hebrew" ROM for the GT-i9505 (official in sammobile.com or non-official) is there a way/is it possible to customize the current official GT-i9500 Stock (meaning no carrier apps, am I correct ?) again, the link you have here is for the i9500 stock right? And you are trying to flash on i337 att, it will brick, This is NOT good. maybe you can ask the dev of that rom, and see if he has any way you can do this.
I am not for sure about this, but I think Wanam and Omega roms have hebrew.
I could be wrong, but upon first boot, it has many language options.

Hey Ax , Sorry for the lag I was hell busy this weekend...
I don't need something fancy , just something that will let me check the ROM's initial boot and config.
I could give it a try what's the program's name ???
I wonder why there isn't an Android OS emulation option in Orcale VirtualBox
One Q is very important - does the factory unlocked (GSM free) feature is ROM dependent or it's built in (flashed in) the device (e.g my SGH-i337) ?

I have a ATT I337 and a dream, to install a rom that turns my phone into a Pure Google Edition S4 that thinks its true Pure Google Edition S4 (OTA updates straight from the big G and all)
Is this possible? I have been waiting on this dream and holding off installing other ROMs but just realized it could be a pipe dream.
What do you guys think?

That Rom is ripped right from the Google edition. Has someone who has been using nexus devices for the past two years, I can assure you, it's pretty much stock. About the only thing we might miss out on is ota updates working properly. Might be a few days behind for the devs to adapt them. I don't see it as an issue as Google seems to be slowing down it's updates schedule

Ok .. if I'm reading this right .. I know exactly what cwhittl is asking for in which people are not understanding .. and he is looking for the same thing as I am.
We're NOT looking for a ripped ROM that we have to have a custom recovery on in order to get on our phones. All other Google Edition phones going back to the original Nexus phones and images that are applied to the phone using ADB commands, thus not needing to be rooted, custom recoveries etc.
Now that its been announced that Google will not be holding/creating the images for the HTC One or SGS4 GE .. it will be up to the OEM to create these images .. Samsung has already posted the source code for this phone on there Samsung Open Source website .. but where can we get the build (not rip) image that is currently on the SGS4 GE (img, tar, tgz, md5 etc etc) .. that can be installed either by ADB or ODIN.
All the different versions that are up here either in the AT&T SGS4 thread or the original GT-i9505 thread are working off a ripped version and all have issues (yes, I have been reading most of them) . and I'm sure the actual SGS4 GE does not have all these issues that people are reporting from the rips.
Hence .. the reason for requesting a ORIGINAL build, not rip.

So what your saying is that you want the phone to be partitioned exactly as the Google version ? Well sir we have a locked boot loader I337 to turn a device into an entirely different model and be stock is impossible ... you should just buy the model you need .. and the definition of rip here means they took the original build and provided it in a flashable package ..
Even if we had the tar file for the Google edition and pit files we can't flash it because of locked bootlader not to mention it will also erase imei because it would flash a different baseband... and the repartition erases baseband too ...

I don't believe we well ever have that. The nexus line uses fastboot to flash the images when the bootloader is unlocked.
The Google edition is not fully open sourced nor will it, Samsung holds key components for some of the drivers as closed source, hence why Samsung will be releasing the updates, Google is just mirroring them and working with them to make the os stock. If you want the true open source experience, get a nexus. The Google edition Rom is the closet thing we will ever get to it on this model of phone.
Has someone who had been using nexus devices for the past few years, I'll give up that little bit of control to get stock on a powerful hardware like the s4. Google edition will hold me over until fall of 2014 when I'll upgrade to that nexus device.
Yes, I miss fastboot, Odin is such a pain in comparison
Edit, I just wanted to add that as of this moment, I'm not experiencing any issues at all. Everything works as intended

I know that the att galaxy s4 has the same exact hardware as the Google play galaxy s4, so if someone dumped that phone, bootloader and all, and flashed it to att model, would it unlock the bootloader and would it run that rom alright? I kind-of want to have the updates not directly from att so I could get stuff like the app2sd quicker.
Thanks, Tommy

Locked boot loader is in the hardware, no matter what you flash, it won't change that. Having said that, there are several roms floating around, give one a try as they still work on our devices, I would not trust a raw dump as that might have a different boatloader that will screw the phone ge

It depends on the Rom. Some won't, others will. The Google edition is a tw Rom, but brings the look, feel and functionality of asop. You will have to research the Rom.
It's often necessary to wipe a phone when changing roms. If you start flashing, I would almost count in it being needed

Well thanks for help, but I will do anything to avoid a wipe, that's the last thing I want to so, even with titanium backup I don't feel secure enough to risk wiping and restoring it. I also don't want to raise the flash counter any if I ever need to use my warranty. And I don't trust that flash counter reset thing because it could brick phone.

Then stay stock. If you're going to flash a rom you have to do wipes most of the time. If you don't you'll end up with lots of problems that will force you to start all over. Just make a nandroid backup in your recovery before flashing and you'll be able to get right back to where you started if you have a problem.

The most important thing for me is the possibility to get OTA updates directly from Samsung/Google. So I'd like to turn my stock S4 into a stock Google edition S4. Is there a way?
I already searched for this in various Sub-Forums on this site, but there are so many ROMs and I don't know which is the right one for me?
Thx

With or without root, you can't get official updates if you're on google edition 4.3.

Thank you for the links. The ROM of the first link you posted I'm using for about 2 months, but unfortunatly it does not seem to support ota updates, since I'm still on built number JWR66.S005.130625 and there are newer builts on the internet.
Also the rest of your posted ROMs don't seem to get ota updates directly. The only way to get updates seems to be by installing them manually.
Maybe there is no way (atm) to turn a S4 into a pure stock Google Edition S4.

That's what I ment.
Is there a way to get an "incremental" update for my built number to a more actual version? I don't like it to completly restet the device just for an update...
All the 4.3 GE roms are custom ones and you won't get any OTA. This may change but that's it for now I'm afraid.

Hi, I'm probably being very idiotic atm but I can't think of any logical issues.
I'm using the Samsung Galaxy S4 i337.. I downgraded from NB1 to MK2, got root, installed safestrap, and attempted to install this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2544474
It was my understanding this came with Loki-Doki (saw it floating around in a different thread asking if it worked, can find it if nessecary) as a patch. So I downloaded and backed up my stock install, and attempted to install this.
Now the problem is when I boot, it returns me to a bootloop, if you could call that progress.. It vibrates occasionally while bootlooping (samsung - safeboot - blackscreen - vibrate - samsung....). I still have access to safestrap, download mode and so on, if it helps at all. I've also tried http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2537495 WITH loki-doki (as it is explicitly stated) to no success either..
I'm looking for one of two solutions;
how to get stock firmware back, or how to properly install this? Or any variation thereof. . . I don't know what the problem is ahaha
Bumping to say multiple wipes>reflashes later the blue screen has yet to occur, not sure what that was... Bootlooping is the huge problem now!
You can't use that rom. You need a tw based rom. This one is aosp

Doesn't the second one work with my phone though? And the comments say 'working on i337'etc on the first one... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2537495
It's still giving me the same problems with loki-doki.

Guh. Well ****. They should make that more obvious in the OP.. saw no mention of either of those being an issue..
Any similar roms that still have TouchWiz or should I just roll back to OTA 4.4.2?

So will it ever be possible to flash AOSP ROMs on NB1?
Not until the bootloader is unlocked. There is no telling when that will be.

Best bet is to find a ROM that you like, then install the Google Experience Launcher apk. It will give your phone the stock google launcher.

Domination Theme will also extensively theme your touchwiz rom to give it a more complete AOSP look without an AOSP rom.
All right thanks for the help guys.
