Samsung Galaxy S5: email Receipts - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just noticed email Receipts via the tracking option have vanished from the s5. I've poked around, but see no way to enable or use this much-needed function for my business communications. Any help would certainly be appreciated. Thanks!

NFC issue

So I received my Nexus 10 Today and have been playing with it for about an hour and a much as I love it, I have a weird issue.
When I try to send something, a picture or contact for example, by NFC, it opens the play store and fails to receive!
Any ideas?

The phone I am sending from is an S3.
The Nexus will receive webpages and YouTube links but when I send a picture, it opens up the play app store.
Confused!!

From settings turn off the S3 / Samsungs own version of photo sharing and turn on the standard android version. Sorry I can't remember exact names but I know the Samsung/Android versions of NFC Direct are different.

S-beam I think
Sent from my One X using xda app-developers app
Yep, S-Beam uses wifi direct, while standard NFC is Bluetooth.
I have tried that.
Unfortunately the S3 gives me the message "S Beam is off. Turn on S Beam and try again". The Nexus still opens up the play store!

I have just found a link on another site that says that because the S3 uses Wi-Fi direct and standard Android uses Bluetooth, it can cause a major headache! Does anyone know any way to permanently disable the S3 S Beam?
Sent from my Nexus 10 using xda app-developers app
On my S3 I have the option to disable S Bean. Enable NFC and enable Android Beam. I would imagine this would enable it to work. Will have my Nexus 10 today but for now I'm just advising without any experience.

I have the options to turn S Beam on or off as well as Android Beam. Unfortunately it doesn't work in any mode.

Where are the NFC chips located on the device? I am having trouble locating them.

Texting using main #

Is there any way around paying at&t for texting using my main phone #? I don't want to pay them to get a few texts. I am still under contract. If I wasn't I would port to Google voice.

I would still try to port your number to Voice. I did it when I still had a few months in my contract. Here's how:
1. Port your phone number to Google Voice (automated process takes exactly 24hrs to complete) (Requires your cell service account admin credentials, have them at the ready).
2. Right after you request a port, go to your carrier's website and request a new number. This'll release your main number from the contract and dump it into their 'usable number' pool.
3. Pray until you get an email from Google that your port is complete.
4. Port your number to wherever you want or keep the number on Google Voice.
NOTE: This has a high success rate, but isn't guaranteed. You may lose your number, or worse: incur early termination fees (ETFs). I've never heard of anyone incurring the ETFs while following this guide, but it is theoretically possible.
anyone have success with this?

I have used it and LOVE gv, but be aware that you won't be able to send/receive MMS anymore
Also I wouldn't recommend that you port your number, you should just get a new GV number and then give that to everyone.

I tried that but so many people text me messages and picture messages on my main number. I'm trying to find a way around that. An app...something .....there's gotta be a way.

I had a GV number for years, but so many people either forget to update my number or erased the info.

I found something called Might Text. That sounds like it will work !

[Q] Quick Exchange email question

I am using the standard email application for 3 outlook.com email accounts. (set up as exchange/active syn)
I have noticed that for some reason pictures that have been sent to me have not been downloaded and just show as a little question mark in a small box in the area where the picture would be. There is no option to be able to download them either. The strange thing is that on my wifes iphone they have downloaded fine?
Any ideas?
Are the images hosted somewhere that she can get to, but you can't?
I've seen similar issues with email stationery that refers to a location on the original companies server.

I don't think so, they were sent from a family member. Seems strange they can be viewed on iPhone but not on my g2

Note 3 Tether?

Anyone figure out how to tether off mobile connection? I'm on ATT US...

Have you tried asking in the AT&T Note 3 forums? http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=2582
Sent from my fingers to your face using my Samsung Galaxy Note 3!
There's a solution in the Sprint forums
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2481448
YOU WILL PROBABLY SOFT BRICK YOUR DEVICE if you just apply that zipas is, but he does include the process used which may be helpful in making an ATT version
Try this first... it works...
Turn it on and hit the home button not cancel when you get the prompt to call VZW
Hit the notifications and select Hot spot Activated Tap to Configure and change the SSID and or the security to what you want.
Check out "Hotspot Toggle Widget"

Scribbled with my S-Pen
By paying for it?

Also ES File explorer can do tethering without rooting. Tested on s4 from ATT.

Extreme Data Overages

Hey guys,
I'm posting this on behalf of a non-XDA friend who recently switched from iPhone to Samsung. Since he made the switch, he has gone from 1.5GB of data use to roughly 15GB of data use without changing his habits. He's called Verizon (to no avail. Shocking, I know.) He's turned off unused apps. He's changed settings. Nothing seems to work, and I'm out of ideas. Any input you guys might have would be greatly appreciated!!

That's crazy I don't even use 4 most months. Most I think was 7 and that's because of downloading some large files for work. I use Pandora, Facebook, XDA and YouTube everyday with no issues. Does he use google+ at all maybe he has it syncing photos over 4G? Why not just turn on the data restricter in settings so once he gets to a certain amount it cuts him off. He has to be unknowingly doing something maybe a 3rd party messenger app that uses data instead of mobile network

That's a nucking futs amount of data. Does he torrent from his phone? I've accidentally left something seeding before.
Tethering which someone else is using?
Any apps from outside the store?
Iffn it was me I would consider a reset and then only add a few apps back at a time as he needs them while watching data usage.
