When I tap the greyed out "Android version 4.4.2" a few times, I suddenly get a screen with a very large K and a couple more taps turns the dark background into a red background.
Any ideas?
It's telling you the build is KitKat.

Oooh - then somehow I managed to get the red screen to turn to a game of some sort. I'm not sure how I managed it and I can't seem to replicate it at the moment

Ah - I did it by pressing down on the medallion in the middle of the red screen.
I can't figure out what the game is about
It's not a game it's just an Easter egg

There seems to be an issue with the super amoled screen. Its not a biggy as of yet. It seems if you have something on the screen for long periods of time it will wear the pixels out. My example....if you go on a white screen in landscape, the look where the status bar usually is (where it says samssamsun) you can see a fainted image of the status bar and a collage of times, battery and signal (i assume from always changing). U cant really see it and sometimes i wish i couldnt. Small flaws like this upset me. My phone isnt rooted (no screen shots) if you have a vibrant or galaxy s. Could you text and see if this is a product wide issue. Thank you for reading please leave comments.
Don't see that on my phone?
uhh, a screen shot wouldnt show burned out or worn out pixels dude.
So I ran the flashlight application, held up the screen, tried looking at different angles, and couldn't find one anomaly.
You should trade it in for a new one.
did the same thing with the flashlight app, nothing shows up. this dude is on crack.

Maybe he just has a lemon?
I can attest to this. I see it after just booting up and going from the lock screen to the desktop. I can see the faint outline of the white numbers from the time on the lockscreen on my GenieWidget on my desktop at the top of my homescreen(widget has grey background). It seems to dissappear though.
I have some when using color flashlight I see marks where the time is. It is very light but I see it. Tmobile is replacing it now. Lol

anybody working on or considering making notification light using the capacitive buttons on the bottom? is it possible to use those leds as a notification?
That would be an awesome solution...
To use as notifications OnLY the capasitive buttons and not all Screen as "NoLED" app...
+1 from me...
+1 I also agree
and maybe a stretch and maybe you guys dont agree but you could also have each button be a different notification, ie:
text message the back button would light up, email the menu button so on and so fourth
+2 for this idea
It's already been done for the galaxy s's, BLN requires a custom kernel though.
I prefer NoLed, in the market, works great for notifications. NoLed
Im thinking about getting a Nexus S.
The only thing stopping me is the lack of notification LED.
It would be pretty good if this could work.
And being able to tell if its sms or email etc from which button lights would be very cool. But i would think the backlight is just one big light.
I've had a look at NoLed, but it doesnt seem ideal. If i get a notification while im asleep, the screens going to stay on for up to 8 hours non stop? That doesnt sound good.
Also it seems to mess with the lock screen and wake up of the phone.
So i just noticed today when pressing the capacitive button, it turns off. that likely means each one is lit independently from a separate LED correct? so if thats the case, theoretically each led should be able to flash independently?

From what I read... the NOLED app works well with the AMOLED screens because blacks dont use power. It basically turns on for that single notification or something like that.
You should read more about it from the vibrant sub forum.... with both having AMOLED screens.

Correct, in amoled screens the only pixels drawing power are the ones that are being lit for the notification. You can also set the notifications to timeout after a certain amount of minutes, and can also set a "sleep time" so there no notification while you're sleeping at night. Another awesome feature is the use of the proximity sensor, so that if the phone is in your pocket it doesn't turn on the notification but once you take your phone out of your pocket the notification shows up on the screen.
Check the devs thread for more info:

You would think this would've the case but not exactly. The galaxy s does this also but it is not possible to activate the leds separately

Yes, I was also thinking this too but could there be some sort of app written making it believe all other buttons were "pressed" so their lights were off once a notification came in? I strongly believe ANYTHING can be changed with a few smart edits I mean people here on XDA bring multi-touch and FM radio's to devices that shouldn't have those features!
Even if you could have each notification have a different light dimmed as if it were being "pressed"
As in: Text message= all lights lit BUT the home
Voicemail=all lights lit BUT the back button ETC...
If they could be seperate that would be great but honestly even if it's all of them it's good enough for me, I just wanna see SOMETHING if my phone is just sitting there

NoLED is ok except for 2 things for me.
1 - I don't like the dots/icons hopping around the screen. I would rather they were just lined up across the top or the side.
2 - It plays around a bit much with turning the screen on and off.
Looking at NoLED there is NO reason why he couldn't make it act exactly like the Notification LED for the Ball on the Nexus One. Just have different colors for different notifications and rotate them on the same cluster of 4 LEDS on the top right of the phone.
Boom you have rotating colored notifications simple and effective
I wish I was better at coding stuff...haha
I'm glad there is a thread going about this!

You couldn't be anymore on point man. The jumping about is slightly unprofessional.
hopefully well see some work towards this once some custom roms start coming out
The reason the notifications move around the screen is so that it doesn't burn out those pixels.

Yes I agree, it would be amazing if they just slid around your screen or drifted all over. OR a pulsing light pops up on the screen just like a virtual trackball like the nexus one!

clearly you guys do not understand why it jumps around so unprofessionally
do you want burned out pixel?
Hi guys,
Just a quick Q to see if anybody else has had this really weird issue. It's happened to me at random[AFAIK] and happened twice. When i'm playing music through the stock music app and press the "Power" button to turn the screen off, for about 2 seconds the phone shows the lockscreen, then everything is RED. That's not to say the whole screen is red, but the lockscreen text and everything is red and then the screen turns off. My lockscreen is the standard lockscreen(the crappy glass effect 1 that you swipe to the side to unlock) so the text at the bottom should be white and the notif bar should be normal, but it's all red.
Like I said, it's happened twice now and I was hoping it wasn't a screen problem!
Stock phone on O2. Latest O2 firmware installed.
Thanks.
I got the same problem once when the whole screen turned to be yellow for few seconds!
I'm on KE2 rooted and overclocked 1.5ghz

Purple in my case - fixed with a reboot. Had a suspicion it was software related, but no evidence...
I just noticed it today, when i woke up... Turned my phone on and off... And just when the samsung logo is gone, and the screen is not completely black and the back and menu button are still on. I could then see black dots on the screen, i tought it was something on top of it, but couldn't wipe it off...
I put it onder a light and saw nothing... very strange... What could this be??
I tried it again and again, and it was always the same...
Can someone try this in a dark room? to see if you have it too.
Could it be influencing my screen? I don't think i see it when my screen is turned on.
Thnx
I have seen those on 2 SGS2's.

Ah ok...Nothing to worry abouth than? you saw one without it too? It's only the 5 seconds when the phone is in this not complete black when the back and menu button are still on before shutting down completely.
But I don't know if this influences my screen or if it's just normal. What could it be?
Hey i've got an sgs2 with this similar problem of black spots on random part of the screen when i shut down my phone. it can be seen before the phone vibrates off. Is urs fixedd?? or sent for replacment??
My phone screen would turn on to show the clock only over a black background when let's say I throw in on the bed or put down "not gently". Does this happen to everyone or is this a feature Google added?

yes, you can turn off that feature... Settings-Display-Turn off Ambient Display.
that's cool that this setting can be turned off, but with the setting turned on mine does it without even moving. I set it down, it does the screen/clock thing, turns off, then just keeps doing it what seems randomly. Anyone figure have that problem?
An app could be causing that behaviour. In my case I found it was LightFlow, I uninstalled it and no more strange behaviour from the Ambient Display.

I get this too! I want ambient display set to on (so when I pick the phone up, I can quickly see the time, without unlocking it) but I don't understand why when it is flat and still, there is this random, intermittent screen clock thing

I had the same issue with Lightflow. Using Light Manager now.
I've noticed having notifications will have the screen coming on every few seconds even though the phone is not being moved. Had this happen on my Nexus 6 as well.
